Irene Daniel Allen
DURHAM -- Mrs. Irene Daniel Allen, of 104 Webb Place in Oxford, died here Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Duke Medical Center.
She was a retired employee of Murdoch Center in Butner. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Oak Grove Baptist Church, by Rev. Ray Allsberry, Rev. Dr. Mack Timberlake Sr., and Rev. Harold F. Trice. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Allen is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Shelia Marie Atkins of Butner, and Mrs. Mary Louise Cozart and Mrs. Sarah A. Williams, both of Creedmoor; four sons, Alfred Allen Jr. of Butner, Ricky Allen of Creedmoor, and Connell Allen and Ronnie Allen, both of Henderson; two sisters, Mrs. Annie P. Alston of Butner and Mrs. Alice Marie Sanford of Oxford; one brother, James Edward Daniel of Creedmoor; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Wright Funeral Home of Oxford, and at other times at the home of her son, Alfred Allen, 1007 East D Street in Butner.
Frank Harris
HENDERSON -- Frank Harris, 108, of 433 Hamilton St., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at his residence.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Christopher M. Hawkins
HENDERSON -- Christopher Maurice Hawkins, 5, of 2810 Cokesbury Road, died Sunday morning, Dec. 31, 2000, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Christopher was the son of Larry and Sarah W. Hawkins.

June Y. Hedrick
ZEBULON -- June York Hedrick, 69, of 13430 N.C. Highway 96, died Sunday night, Dec. 31, 2000, at Wake Medical Center.
She was born in Alamance County, the daughter of the late Rezzie A. and Gertie Smith York.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Corinth Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Carl J. Hedrick officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Floral Garden Park cemetery of High Point.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Dr. Carl J. Hedrick; one son, Larry Curtis Hedrick of Florida; an adopted daughter, Laura Ann Hunt of Henderson; one granddaughter and one grandson.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 13450 N.C. 96, Zebulon, N.C., 27597.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, and at other times at the home.

OXFORD -- Mr. Lee Edward Palmer, 85, of 228 W. College St., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at the Granville Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending with the Betts and Son Funeral Home.
Ernest Thomas Ridley
DURHAM -- Mr. Ernest Thomas Ridley, 68, a resident of 1009 Raleigh St. in Oxford, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the Durham Regional Hospital.
Mr. Ridley was a graduate of Mary Potter school, and attended Johnson C. Smith University. He also was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include one brother, Roland Gee of Durham.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Betts Funeral Home Chapel of Oxford, officiated by the Rev. Lacy Joyner. Burial will follow in the Meadowview Memorial Park.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Evelyn S. Anglin
GRANVILLE COUNTY -- Evelyn Smith Anglin, 56, a Granville County native, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Alvesta Davis
VANCE COUNTY -- Alvesta Davis, 52, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, in Long Island, N.Y. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of George and Leila Clement Davis.
He attended the Vance County Public School, then moved to Queens, N.Y., in 1960 to finish high school in New York. He earned a bachelor and a master degree in public accounting from York College in New York. He worked as a financial adviser and a freelance accountant.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service by the Rev. Johnny Hargrove. Burial will follow in Sunset Garden Inc.
Surviving are his daughter, Estell Dowdell of Michigan; his mother, Leila Davis of New York; his father, George Davis of New York; two sisters, Vanessa Green of Charlotte and Cassandra Davis of New York; two brothers, George Davis and Roland Davis, both of New York.
The body will be on view today, starting at 12 p.m.

Frank Harris
GRANVILLE COUNTY -- Frank Harris, 108, of 443 Hamilton St., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at his residence. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Charlie and Miranda Harding Harris.
He joined Welcome Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and worked as a farmer until the age of 83.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service by the Rev. William Brodie. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mozelle Scott, Lucille Rogers, Ethel Evans, all of Henderson; two sons, William Thomas Harris of Henderson, Carey L. Harris of Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; several great-great-great-grandchildren.
The body will be on view today, starting at 12 p.m.

HENDERSON -- Thomas McKnight, 85, of Guardian Care, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Maria Parham Hospital.

Lee E. Palmer
GRANVILLE COUNTY -- Lee Edward Palmer, 85, of 228 W. College St., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at the Granville Medical Center. He was the son of the late John Palmer and Mattie Meadows Palmer.
He attended the Granville County Schools. He was a carpenter and a member of the Baptist Grove Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mattie Green Palmer of the home; one daughter, Annie Tyler of Newark, N.J.; one sister, Ella Palmer Burgans of Oxford; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Betts & Son Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Ollie Ellison. Burial will follow in the Baptist Grove Church cemetery in Bullock.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Christopher M. Hawkins
VANCE COUNTY -- Christopher Maurice Hawkins, age 5, of 2810 Cokesbury Road, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at his home. He was a Vance County native and the son of Larry and Sarah W. Hawkins.
He was a kindergarten student at Carver Elementary School where he was very creative in arts and crafts.
Surviving, in addition to his parents of the home, are two brothers, Charles Hawkins of Henderson and Larry Hawkins Jr. of the home; one sister, Katina Hawkins of the home; paternal grandparents, William and Julia Bullock of Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Manson Baptist Church in Manson by the Rev. Cranford Davis. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at E.C. Terrys Funeral Service. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 12 p.m. Friday until taken to the church on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Sherwood Davis, Walter Woodard, Thomas Woodard and Barry Hawkins. Floralbearers will be Crystal Davis, Melissa Johnson, Zenobia Robinson and Tasha Brown.

Edward L. Johnson
LITTLETON -- Edward Leon Johnson, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Wake Memorial in Raleigh. He was the son of J.R. Johnson and the late Zelma T. Johnson.
A wake will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church in Littleton, followed by the funeral services.
Surviving are one son, Edward L. Johnson Jr. of Battleboro; four sisters, Genotre J. Penny-Boone of Rocky Mount, Alice Clemons of Littleton, Vallery Brown of Reidsville and Alma C. Monk of Matoaca, Va.; and four brothers, the Rev. James M. Johnson of Littleton, Ivan P. Johnson of New York City, N.Y., Nelson Johnson of Greensboro and Simon Johnson of Winston-Salem.

Ethel S. McBryde
BUTNER -- Ethel S. McBryde, 92, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham. She was a Wake County native and the daughter of the late David Hugh and Phoebe Wright Small. She was the widow of Marshall Benjamin McBryde.
She graduated from Dorothea Dix School of Nursing and worked as an RN until moving to Butner in 1947 where she was the assistant superintendent of nursing at John Umstead Hospital for many years. She retired from Murdoch Center in December 1971. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Butner, Ruth Helms Prayer Group and Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Dr. Gene Garrison. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his son, Clarence W. Pearce Jr. of Durham; and three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Butner, 202 West D. St., Butner, N.C. 27509 or to the Kings Daughters Home, 204 N. Buchanan Blvd., Durham, N.C. 27701.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the funeral service at the Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at 3703 Cambridge Road, Durham, N.C. 27705.

James Porter Rae
GREENSBORO -- Mr. James (Jim) Porter Rae, 86, of 1611 Gracewood Drive, died Tuesday, January 2, 2001, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at The First Presbyterian Church Chapel officiated by Reverend Chris East.
Mr. Rae was born in Walla Walla, Washington, on May 19, 1914, also residing in California, Virginia, and Asheville, N.C. before moving to Greensboro in 1972. He was a professional real estate appraiser designated by the American Right-Of-Way Association, The Appraisal Institute and The Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He practiced with the Virginia Department of Transportation, North Carolina Department of Transportation and was a partner in the real estate appraisal firm of Rae and Williams in Greensboro.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carroll Jones Rae.
Surviving are his daughter, Merrilou Rae Williams, and son-in-law, Howard Williams, and his daughter, Barbara Rae Carter, of Greensboro; grandchildren, Katherine Williams Yost, Marc A. Williams, and wife, Jennifer, Laura Carter Robinson, and husband, Bruce, James (Jim) Carter; four great-grandchildren; and beloved cat, Reedy.
A reception and receiving of friends will be in the Blair Hagan Room at the church following the service.

GRANVILLE COUNTY -- Evelyn Smith Anglin, 56, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of John Westley Smith and the late Sallie Gooche Smith.
She was a 1962 graduate of the former G.C. Shaw High School of Stovall and furthered her education at North Carolina Central and in the state of New York where she received her master degree.
Surviving are her husband, Vern Anglin of the home; one daughter, Awayna Anglin of Maryland; her father, John Westley Smith of Stovall.
The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service. Burial will be at Michael Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The body will be on view from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

HENDERSON -- Dorothy Marie Hammond Perry Mayo, 61, of 2516 Dick Smith Road, Kittrell, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at her residence.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Doris Newsome, 1150 Chavis Road in Kittrell.

Macon F. West
ONTARIO, CANADA -- Macon Francis West, 91, of St. Williams Ontario Canada, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000. He was a Vance County native.
He was retired from the Canadian Forestry Service.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Gladys Packel West; two sons, Douglas West of Simcoe, Ontario Canada and John West of Ottawa, Ontario Canada; two daughters, Ann Kirton and Lynne Kicksee, both of Simcoe, Ontario Canada; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Molly Jackson of Henderson.
Visitation was held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Ostrander Funeral Home in Port Rowan, Ontario Canada.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial followed in the family plot at Newkirk cemetery in St. Williams, Ontario Canada.

Linda Wyche
NEW JERSEY -- Linda Wyche, 49, of New Jersey, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in New Jersey. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of Carrie Wyche Allen of Hillside, N.J., and the late William Carlton Wyche.
She was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Middleburg where the funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday by Dr. A.A. Brown. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are one daughter, Gloria Annette Wyche of Hillside, N.J.; stepfather, Wilson T. Allen of Hillside, N.J.; two sisters, Lenora Wyche Antwi of Newark, N.J., and Gale Sykes Harrell of Hillside, N.J.; four brothers, William C. Wyche Jr. and David L. Wyche, both of Hillside, N.J., Ronnie A. Wyche of Alexandria, Va., Aaron Groone of Irvington, N.J.
