Annie Laura Norwood Ashworth
OXFORD -- Annie Laura Norwood Ashworth, 84, a resident of 206 Holly Drive, died February 9th at her home.
A native of Vance County, she was the widow of Charles David Ashworth and the daughter of the late Jacob R. and Annie Roberson Norwood. She was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church, graduated from Rex School of Nursing and was retired as a registered nurse from the Granville County Health Department.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oxford Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Bolton. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
She is survived by two daughters, Gail A. Warren and husband James Michael of Oxford, Brenda A. Gardziel of Woodbridge, Va.; grandchildren Kathy W. Tucker and husband Stephen of Robersonville, Ashley W. Harrell and husband Lee of Oxford, Kimberly Gardziel and David Gardziel, both of Woodbridge, Va.; great-grandchildren Bailey and Olivia Harrell; a sister, Gallie N. Twisdale of Townsville; two brothers, Robert A. Norwood of Townsville and Stanley Norwood of Manson.

HENDERSON -- Bettie Davis Crudup, 62, of 410 Chavasse Ave. died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at her residence.

Goldie I. Brogden
CREEDMOOR -- Goldie Inscore Brogden, 81, of 1502 Munn Road died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Durham Regional Hospital. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Samuel and Viola Brogden Inscore. She was the widow of Jim Brogden.
She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Robert Yates. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy M. Stephenson of Wilton and Joy Ann Teasley of Creedmoor; two sons, Jimmy I. Brogden and Aubrey Lee Brogden, both of Creedmoor; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.

Bettie D. Crudup
HENDERSON -- Bettie Davis Crudup, 62, of 410 Chavasse Ave. died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at her residence. She was a native of Lyman, S.C., and the daughter of the late William and Fannie Mae Louis Davis.
She worked in the New York school system for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kittrell First Baptist Church by the Rev. James R. Fogg. Burial will follow in the Kittrell First Baptist Memorial Garden.
Surviving are her husband, Fred Crudup; four children, Allen Crudup and Marie Crudup, both of New York, Reamone Crudup of North Carolina and Marcia Crudup of the home; two sisters, Shirley Handy of Amityville, N.Y., and Sallie Moore of Roosevelt, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence. The body will be on view at the funeral home starting Monday until taken to the church one hour before the service.

Elizabeth Palmer
NORLINA -- Elizabeth Evelyn Wagner Palmer, 85, of 310 High St. died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. She was a native of Alliston, Canada, and the daughter of the late Rev. Belford Northrup deFoe Wagner and Mary Lilian Ham Wagner. She was the widow of James Russell Palmer.
She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Warrenton, earned her bachelor of science in education from the University of Alabama, started her teaching career in 1937 and taught for 39 years until her health began to fail. Her teaching career started in Macon and ended in North Warren. Her favorite grade to teach was first grade. She was a former teacher of the year and member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Gamma Chi chapter, in Warren County.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Marvin Aycock officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview cemetery in Warrenton.
Surviving are two daughters, Danylou Hundley of Norlina and Evelyn Lee Rhodes of Charlotte; three stepdaughters, Alice Russell Fleming of Afton, Catherine Maxey of Miami and Panthea Nabors of Southside, Ala.; two sisters, Estelle Scott and Grace Jones, both of Warrenton; one brother, Belford Wagner of Lexington; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, The Chapel of the Good Shepherd, All Saints Episcopal Church or the Warren Educational Fund.

Ruby Lee Tarkenton
HENDERSON -- Ruby Lee Tarkenton, age 81, a resident of 130 Lakeview Drive, died February 10, 2001, in Britthaven Nursing Home. She was a native of Tyrrell County and was the daughter of the late Clyde and Amanda Jones Tarkenton of Gum Neck. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the WMU.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church by the Rev. John Burton-Crutchfield. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Leroy Tarkenton; one daughter, Jean Finch, and husband Benny Finch of Henderson; a son, Jeffrey Tarkenton, and wife Susan of Arlington, Va.; four grandchildren, Beth Finch of Raleigh, N.C., Shelby Tarkenton, Amanda Tarkenton and William Tarkenton, all of Arlington, Va.; two nephews, the Rev. Ray Everton of Kenly, N.C., and Billy Everton of Columbia, N.C.; and a niece, Jane Walker of Columbia, S.C. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Parisher Everton, and a grandson, Benjamin Chadwick Tarkenton.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Joseph R. Thompson
WARRENTON -- Joseph Ray “Joe” Thompson, 40, of the Bronx, N.Y., formerly of Durham, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in the Bronx.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Wise. The Rev. Preston Williams, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Charlene Montague Thompson of Ridgefield Park, N.J.; his mother, Nadine Thompson of Durham; two sisters, Bernice Thompson of Lake Charles, La., and Denice Thompson of Chapel Hill; and two brothers, Clarence W. Thompson of the Bronx and James Thompson of Chapel Hill.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

Dossie R. Wilson
OXFORD -- Dossie Russell Wilson, 91, of 12938 N.C. Highway 39 North, Townsville, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Oxford Manor Nursing Home. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Luther and Molly Boyd Wilson. He was the widower of Ada Guerrant Wilson.
He was a member of Stovall Baptist Church and was a retired construction worker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. George Custer. Burial will be in Stovall Memorial Park.
Surviving are two daughters, Virgie W. Cooke of Stovall and Barbara W. Hilliard of Middleburg; three sons, Walter Wilson of Blackstone, Va., Henry Wilson of Henderson and Amos Wilson of Bullock; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Amos and Donna Wilson, 9150 Tilley Road, Bullock.

Hildred Cash
ROXBORO -- Hildred Cash, 78, of 588 Fountaine Road, Roxboro, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at the Person Memorial Hospital. He was a Granville County native.
He attended the Granville County Schools.
Surviving are his wife, Mary J. Cash of the home; daughter, Loraine Cash of the home; son, Hildred Cash of Oxford; two sisters, Evelyn Hill of Whiteville and Lelia Royster of Butner; three brothers, Robert L. Cash and Linwood Cash, both of Durham, and Abraham Cash of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Betts & Son Chapel by the Rev. George Bullock. Burial will follow in the Meadowview Memorial Park.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the residence of his sister, 615 12th St., Butner.

Lawrence A. Colville
BUTNER -- Lawrence A. Colville, 73, of 203 East “C” St., died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at his home. He was a Cumberland County native and the son of the late Robert H. and Emily Brock Colville.
He was a member of Butner Presbyterian Church and was retired from John Umstead Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Butner Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James Grubbs and Dr. David Vellenga. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Mary “Betty” Morris Colville of the home; three daughters, Darlene Colville Brogden of Butner, Delois Colville West of Chapel Hill and Mary Anne Colville of Oxford; one brother, William Colville of Durham; and four grandchildren.

OXFORD -- Lizzie Jones, 83, of 8164 U.S. Hwy. 96 N., died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at the Granville Medical Center.

James R. Mitchell
KITTRELL -- James Redic Mitchell, 88, a resident of 2468 Bobbitt Road Kittrell, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in a local nursing home.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Lee and Emma Hight Mitchell. He was a retired tobacco farmer and he was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church for over 70 years where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and was an usher for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Administrative Board of Union Chapel United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Union Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Hines. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
There are no immediate survivors.
The family received friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Monday at the J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Wayne and Debbie Kinton at 233 West Hills Dr.
Serving as active pall bearers will be: John Frazier, Durwood Wells, Leslie Stone, Tim Florence, Gerald Wells and Wayne Kinton. Honorary pall bearers will be all members of the Adult Sunday School Class.

CREEDMOOR -- Edward White, 80, of 3552 Walters Road, Creedmoor, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center. He was a Granville County native.
He was a member of the Union A.M.E. Zion Church where he served on the Men’s Willing Working Club, was a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the male chorus and senior choir.
Surviving are his wife, Beatrice White of the home; son, Edward White Jr. of the home; two daughters, Alice Peterson of Newark, N.J., and Betty Little of Stovall; one sister, Queen Richardson of Creedmoor; three brothers, Clyde White of Paterson, N.J., Nedom Kinion of Newark, N.J., and Jerry Kinion of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and five foster grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union A.M.E. Zion Church in Wilton by the Rev. Doc Fuller. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ruth D. Faucette
HENDERSON — Ruth Dean Faucette, 72, of 1418 Reservoir St. died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late James Dean and Martha Dean Hicks. She was a lifelong member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was treasurer of the Living by Faith Sunday school class and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon and the Rev. Wilbert Horton. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Jerome Faucette; two daughters, Shirley Faucette LeRoy of Jamestown and Betty Faucette Collier of Henderson; one son, Robert J. “Bobby” Faucette Jr. of the home; four sisters, Roselyn Cockrell and Ann Howell, both of Wilson, Betty Boyd of Oxford and Margaret Robinson of Henderson; one stepsister, Hazel Norwood of Oxford; two brothers, Thomas “Sonny” Hicks and Ben Hicks, both of Henderson; one stepbrother, Edward Hicks of Ra-leigh; and one granddaughter.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 1418 Reservoir St.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Wayne Vick, Morris Batton, Jerry Patterson, James Pendergrass, Ronnie Lassiter, Jack Pernell, R.C. Creech, Buck Rivers and Bobby Parrish.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Living by Faith Sunday school class of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The body will be taken from the J.M. White Funeral Home to the church one hour before the service.

Jeannette M. Renn
DURHAM — Mrs. Jeannette “Polly” Mae Renn, age 84, of 2244 Hillandale Road died at Durham Regional Hospital Tuesday, February 13, 2001.
Mrs. Renn was a native of Vance County and had lived in Durham for the past 32 years. She was the daughter of the late Charles Ross and Minnie Dunkley Ross. Mrs. Renn was a homemaker and was of the Presbyterian faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lenwood “Red” Renn, and two sons, Bobby Renn and Ikey Renn.
She is survived by a son, Michael Renn, and wife Madelyn of Durham; two brothers, Fred Doss and George Ross, both of Henderson; one sister, Annie Coghill of Henderson; 2 grandchildren, Mike Renn II and wife Ronda and Missi Lemons and husband Dwight; 6 great-grandchildren, Brandy, Brittney, Brooke, Bridgette, Maddy, Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Elmwood City cemetery, Henderson, with Dr. Gary Byrd officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son Michael Renn, 2244 Hillandale Road. Flowers are acceptable.
