WARRENTON — John “Nippy” Richardson, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.

David J. Scott
WARRENTON — David Jenkins Scott, 67, of Route 1, Warrenton, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his residence. He was a Warrenton native and the son of Robert Dinsmore Scott and Clara Estelle Wagner Scott.
He was a member of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Ridgeway and was a U.S. Army veteran. He owned and operated Scott’s Antiques in Warrenton for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd in Ridgeway by the Rev. Thomas Rightmyer and the Rev. Marvin Aycock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Clara Estelle Wagner Scott of Warrenton; daughters Lynne Scott Nichaus of Newark, Del., and Laura Scott Bay of Wilmington; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Boyd Scott, Spence Scott, Bill White, Rob Scott, Thomas Holtzman and Howard Jones.
Memorials may be made to the Chapel of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Ridgeway. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Ruth B. Vanderford
HENDERSON — Ruth Bissett Vanderford, age 78, of 172 Crowder Court died Tuesday morning in a local nursing home. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Gregory T. and Nona Massey Bissett. She was a retired cashier at Saveway Grocery Store, where she worked for 35 years, and was a former member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by one daughter, Lynne V. Crowder of Henderson; one son, Jon M. Vanderford of Henderson; two sisters, Rachel B. Foster of Spencer, W.Va., and Rebecca B. Daniels of Henderson; one brother, Gregory T. Bissett Jr. of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Lynne Crowder at 112 Crowder Court.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Kenneth Roberson, Donnie Crowder, Jason Crowder, Kevin Ellington, Ken Norwood and Ellis Dickerson.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Lucy Carroll Blount, 88, formerly of Warren County, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in Buffalo.

MACON -- Annie Rodwell Daniels, formerly of the Pine Grove community in Macon, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in New York.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Macon. The Rev. William E. Powers, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, James Harrison of Harvey, Ill.; one daughter, Dorothy M. Francis of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Robert L. Mangum
CREEDMOOR -- Robert Lee Mangum, 87, a Granville County native, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in Newark, Del.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Baptist Church by minister Tracy Swain and the Rev. Norris Trice. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Denise Swain of Newark, Del., and Lisa A. Bobo of Chester, Pa.; three sons, Wil “Mack” Mangum, Claude Mangum and Calvin Mangum, all of Pottstown, Pa.; three sisters, Myrtle M. Suitt, Gertrude M. Green and Evelyn M. Bass, all of Creedmoor; and six grandchildren.
The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.

Gathon A. Sadler
CREEDMOOR -- Gathon Ashley Sadler, 83, of 2105 West Arlington Blvd., Greenville, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Luther C. and Tiny Haithcock Sadler.
He was a member and deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, a retired farmer and a barber.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Dawson and the Rev. Marc Tilley. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Newton Sadler; three daughters, Betty S. Moynahan of Greenville, Sue S. Ballard of Knoxville, Tenn., and Lana S. O’Neal of Wake Forest; a sister, Evelyn S. Thompson of Greensboro; a brother, Waverly Sadler of Henderson; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Gathon A. Sadler may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 745, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home of Lana and Thed O’Neal, 12001 O’Neal Road, Wake Forest.

HENDERSON -- James Lee Alston, 67, of 2034 S. Chavis Road, Kittrell, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Joel T. Cheatham Jr.
HENDERSON -- Joel Thomas “Buck” Cheatham Jr., age 76, a resident of 399 Bellewood Drive, died Thursday morning, February 15, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Joel Thomas and Belle Davis Cheatham. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, and was retired owner of Joel T. Cheatham Insurance Co. He was a lifetime member of The Church Of The Holy Innocents, where he was a Lay Reader, a former Senior Warden and former member of the Vestry. He was a past Commodore of the Hampton One Design Racing Association and was also active in many civic and community organizations.
Memorial services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at The Church Of The Holy Innocents by the Rev. Daniel Barker.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenia Rose Cheatham, of the home; one daughter, Charlotte Cheatham Gnessin, and husband Lawrence Richard Gnessin of Arlington, Virginia; two sons, Joel Thomas Cheatham III and wife Meredith of Henderson and Bennett Perry Rose Cheatham and wife Susan of Raleigh; two sisters, Elviria Cheatham Jones of Winter Park, Florida, and Margaret Cheatham Williams and husband John Cross Williams of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Fagan Cheatham, Joel T. Cheatham IV, Stacia Gnessin, Stephan Gnessin and Casey Miller; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home at 399 Bellewood Drive.

Richardson Sr. and Lula Richardson, both of Warren County; one brother, Arthur Richardson of Warrenton; four sisters, Pearlean Richardson and Andrea Daniels, both of Warrenton, Janet Richardson of White Plains, Va., and Sheila Richardson of Macon; and one grandson.

Mabel D. Sebastian
LOUISBURG -- Mabel D. Sebastian, 66, of Louisburg died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in Franklin Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in the Joyner Family cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Sebastian Faulkner and Carol Sebastian, both of Louisburg; one son, David Sebastian of Louisburg; her stepmother, Josephine Dickerson of Louisburg; two stepsons, James E. Sebastian Jr. of Hamptonville and Zachary Sebastian of Jonesville; one brother, Henry Dickerson of Louisburg; one grandchild; and five stepgrandchildren.

HENDERSON -- Cereas Baskett Steed, 70, of 902 Bridges St. died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill. The family will receive friends at the residence.

James L. Alston
HENDERSON -- James Lee Alston, 67, of 2034 S. Chavis Road, Kittrell, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was a Franklin County native and the son of the late James C. Alston and Lessie Holden Alston.
He attended Franklin County public schools and was a member of Rowland Chapel United Church of Christ. In 1955 he moved to Perth Amboy, N.J., where he was employed by Woodbridge Auto Sales for 35 years. He retired and returned to Kittrell in July.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Kittrell by the Rev. Jimmie Whitehurst. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Marie Alston; two daughters, Phyllis Ann Arrington of Perth Amboy and Denise Carroll of Keasbey, N.J.; two grandchildren; and one sister, Susiebell Kingsberry of Newark, N.J.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Garnes Funeral Chapel and all other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be James Foster, Donald Lamb, Jerome Harris, Maurice Hargrove, Thurman Taylor, Nathan Person and Wilbert Malone. Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Perry and Bennie Lee Alston. Surviving are four sisters, Eliza Robinson of Clinton, Ida C. Johnson and Viola C. Johnston, both of Warrenton, and Fannie Green of Valley Forge, Pa.; and one brother, William Carroll of Philadelphia.

WARRENTON -- Eulalia Riggan Minor, 79, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, in San Marcos, Texas. She was the widow of Willis Minor.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Blaylock Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Riggan family cemetery at Mountain View.
Surviving are sons Rendall Minor of Kyle, Texas, and Bradley Minor of San Marcos; brothers Harry Riggan of Henderson, Jack Riggan of Carson City, Nev., Hodges Riggan of Meridian, Miss, and C.N. Riggan of Flushing, N.Y.; sisters Rivers Lovell of Wantaugh, N.Y., and Caroline Rossell of Henderson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Montague Jr. of Minneapolis and Alphonso Jiggetts of Palmer Springs; nine grandchildren; six sisters, Adlean Baskerville of South Hill, Va., Florence Feggins of Chesapeake, Va., Geraldine Williams of the Bronx, N.Y., Alice Spruill and Gladys Jiggetts, both of Palmer Springs, and Linda Hargrove of Wise; and six brothers, Leonard Jiggetts, James Jiggetts, Thomas Jiggetts, Ben Jiggetts and Chamber Jiggetts, all of Palmer Springs, and Elvoide Jiggetts of Bracey, Va.
