HENDERSON -- James Arthur “Flintstone” Fuller, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Senior Citizens Nursing Center.
The family will receive friends at 304 College St. in Henderson.
Arrangements will be announced by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Jimmy R. Grissom

OXFORD -- Jimmy Ray Grissom, 60, of 5686 Cornwall Road died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Brantwood Nursing Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Sam and Lizzie Beal Grissom.
He was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church and was medically retired.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Bonnie Pettijohn. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are two brothers, Bobby Grissom of Durham and Billy Grissom of Oxford.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Billy and Linda Grissom, 5687 Cornwall Road, Oxford.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Allen Hanks

HENDERSON -- Allen Hanks has died. The family will be at 271 S. Beckford Drive.
Arrangements will be an-nounced by Garnes Funeral Service.

Jessie M. Jones

HENDERSON -- Jessie Mungo Jones, 87, of Guar-dian Care died Wednesday, March 7, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Telford and Lillie Jacobs Mungo.
She was a native of Kershaw, S.C., and a life member of the Coley Springs Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Inter-ment will be in Sunset Gardens.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Service.

Sylena Kearney

HENDERSON -- Sylena Kearney of 1228 Lawrence St. died Friday, March 9, 2001, in Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be an-nounced by Garnes Funeral Service.

Catherine Satterwhite

HENDERSON -- Catherine Satterwhite of 649 Adams St. died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services of Henderson.

Alma G.B. Short

AXTELL -- Alma Genette Bumgarner Short, 77, of Rt. 2, Norlina, died Friday at Guardian Care in Henderson. Mrs. Short was an Alexander Co., N.C., native born August 25, 1923, to the late John Burnie Bumgarner and Hettie B. Bumgarner.
Mrs. Short was a longtime member of Brown’s Baptist Church, where she was a Deaconess. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Mrs. Short was the widow of Samuel Bennett Short Sr.
Revs. Buddy Johnson and Jack Edge will conduct funeral services 2 p.m. Monday at Blaylock Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Brown’s Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are three sons, Sammy B. Short Jr. of Chesapeake, Va., Tony R. Short of Roanoke Rapids, N.C, and Larry L. Short of Axtell, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Steed of Henderson, N.C., and Bonnie Price of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Paul Bumgarner of Axtell, N.C.; six grandchildren, Donnie Knight of Chesapeake, Va., Darlene Knight Kelly of Charleston, S.C., Todd Bennett Short of Atlanta, Ga., Anna Valentine Short of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Kristin Gail Short of Axtell, N.C., and Adam Tucker of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Zach and Erin.
Pallbearers will be Bennie Dean Bumgarner, Larry G. Short, Marvin Overby, Elton Short, Allen Norwood and Wilton Short.
Memorials may be made to Brown’s Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Dorothy White

MARLTON, N.J. -- Dorothy White, 82, of Marlton died Monday, March 5, 2001, at 111 Carmel Ridge Road. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Townes White.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Oak Level United Church of Christ by the Rev. Leon White. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Ernestine Huggins of Marlton; a brother, McKinley White of Baltimore; and a sister, Alberta Simmons of Columbia, Md.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Service.

Everlener Abrams

STOVALL -- Everlener Abrams, 85, of 3148 Davis Chapel Road, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Oxford Manor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Davis Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Danny Wilder. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Moselle Ford and Ella Richardson, both of Oxford, and Josephine Buckner of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Oxford.

Horace G. Boyd

HENDERSON -- Horace Grady Boyd, 94, formerly of 462 Boyd Lane, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Oxford Manor. He was a Vance County, the son of the late Early Robert and Mattie Lee Greenway Boyd and the widower of Clarice Grissom Boyd.
He was a member of Harris Chapel United Methodist Church and a retired farmer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harris Chapel United Methodist Church by the Revs. Cam Ford, Eddie Nutt, Ann Sims and Neil Woodlief. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving is one sister, Mamie Lee Greene of Henderson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford and other times at the home of Carolyn Nutt, 2451 Hicksboro Road.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Harris Chapel United Methodist Church, 302 Forest Road, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Willie Bullock Sr.

OXFORD -- Willie Bullock Sr., 72, of 126 Granville St., died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at the Granville Medical Center. He was a Granville County native.
He was a former employee of the J.F.D. Company.
Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Betts & Son Chapel by the Rev. Donald Harris.
Surviving are one daughter, Temekia Tharrington Allen of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Willie Bullock Jr. and Johnnie Bullock, both of Oxford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home of Oxford.

James A. Fuller

HENDERSON -- James Arthur “Flintstone” Fuller, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Senior Citizens Nursing Home. He was a Franklin County native and the son of the late Josiah and Jona Fuller.
He was educated in the Franklin County Public Schools and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
He was a faithful member of Mount Moriah AME Zion Church, where he served as a trustee and member of the Pastors Aide Club, Senior Choir, Spiritualettes and Missionary Circle. He also served as superintendent of the Sunday School for several years. He was under watch care at Ashley Grove Baptist Church where he was a member of the senior choir and the Consolidated All Male Choir.
He was employed with the Hosiery Mill as a machinist and drove a taxi cab in the area for years after retiring.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Wimbush Fuller; four children, Marilyn Fuller Jones of Long Island, N.Y., Audrey Collins of India, Priscilla Mason of Henrico and James Jamie Wimbush of Henderson; four grandchildren; three sisters, Odessa Harris of Landover, Md., Amelia Shaw of Baltimore, Md., and Martha A. Marrow of Henderson, Walter Fuller of Buffaloe, N.Y., and Marshall Alston of New Jersey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Moriah AME Zion Church. The Rev. Melvin Ballard, pastor, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Wilson Battle. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service and other times at 304 College St., Henderson.
Floralbearers will be nieces. Pallbearers will be nephews.
The body will be on view today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service from 2 p.m. until taken to the church on Wednesday.
Arrangements are by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Thurman R. Henderson

BUTNER -- Thurman R. Henderson, 57, of 704 West B. St., Apt. 2-A, Butner, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Duke Medical Center.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc.

George E. Keeton

HENDERSON -- George Edmond Keeton, 87, formerly of Andrews Ave., Henderson, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in a local nursing home. He was a native of Mecklenburg County, Va., and the son of the late George Washington and Fannie Bolton Keeton. He was the widow of Rosa Mae Woody Keeton.
He was a retired employee of the Naval Shipyard in Newport News, Va. He was a lifelong member of Island Creek Baptist Church, and was a member of the N.G. Knott Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Island Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnson Gupton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Diane K. Williams of Henderson and Ann K. Winn of Kittrell; two sons, L. Hartwell Keeton and Donald G. “Cotton” Keeton, both of Henderson; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Jerry and Diane Williams, 112 Village Drive, Henderson, in the Cokesbury community.
Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. The N.G. Knott Sunday School Class of Island Creek Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Catherine B. Satterwhite

HENDERSON -- Catherine Ballard Satterwhite, 75, of 649 Adam St., died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at her residence. She was a native of Kings County, N.Y., and the daughter of the late Augustus and Henrietta Thomas Ballard.
She served as a senior mother at New Life Church of God in Christ where funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday by Pastor Myron Henderson.
Surviving are one daughter, Cornelia Debnam of the home; one son, John Otis Green of Henderson; two sisters, Henrietta Staley of Henderson and Alice Crews of Maryland; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 649 Adam St., and at the residence of Henrietta Staley, 101 Water St.
The body will be on view today until taken to the church one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Life Church of God in Christ in memory of Catherine Satterwhite.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service of Henderson.

Allen D. Hanks

HENDERSON -- Allen DeSean Hanks, 24, of 275 S. Beckford Drive died Saturday, March 10, 2001. He was a Vance County native and the son of Rheba L. Hanks and the late Willie A. Durham.
He was educated in the Vance County school system and was a former employee of the Murdock Center in Butner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at New Bethel Baptist Church by Dr. J.H. Bryant and the Revs. Omega Perry, Clarence Dale and John Miles. Burial will follow in the Blacknall cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are one daughter, Alexis M. Hanks of Henderson; one son, Qwa’Dre DeSean Hanks of Henderson; seven sisters, Nicky Thomas, Tracey Hanks, Martha Perry and Henrietta Durham, all of Henderson, Rebecca Durham and Willie Mae Baskerville, both of Middleburg, and Brenda Shaw of Wise; three brothers, Byron Brandon of New York, Jelani Hanks of Soul City and Buster Brown of Raleigh; and a grandfather, E.C. Brandon of Oxford.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Garnes Funeral Chapel and all other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be cousins and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Thomas, Kenneth Whitley, Barry Kittrell, Tre Ricks, Ced Thomas, Chris Pierce, Donald Horton and Rosco Brodie.
Floral bearers will be cousins and friends. Honorary floral bearers will be Cookie Childs, Linda Malone, Denise Clifton, Kristie Burwell, Nicole Fields, Kendra Fields, Jackie Davis, Michelle Fields, Joann Henderson, Frances Chavis, Joyce Boyd and Theresa Coley.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Rachel Hargrove

NORLINA -- Rachel Hargrove, 75, of the Oine community died Monday, March 12, 2001, at the Guardian Care Nursing Home in Henderson.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Mrs. Alice Louise Hewett

DURHAM -- Mrs. Alice Louise Hewett, 66, of 308 Raynor Street died at her home Tuesday, March 13, 2001, after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Hewett was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, daughter of the late Robert J. Reaves and Mary Kathleen Hobbs Reaves. She retired after 38 years from Duke Medical Center as a Patient Care Assistant. Mrs. Hewett was a member of Layman’s Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Hewett, on May 28, 1995. Mrs. Hewett enjoyed her grandchildren.
Surviving are her two sons, Ronald W. Hewett of Pineville, N.C., and Johnny O. Hewett of Durham; five daughters, Teresa H. Harris of Middleburg, N.C., Donna H. Mooney of Graham, N.C., Nancy C. Jones of Lincolnton, N.C., Joyce C. Schronce of Iron Station, N.C., Teresa D. Howard of Durham; one brother, Joseph Allen Reaves of Durham; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Layman’s Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Byrd and Rev. H.L. Mickle officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John Wayne Godfrey, Preston Beddingfield, Grady Flowers, Baxter Wilkins, Ken Stanley and Raymond Hoy.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 308 Raynor Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 115 Boylan Ave., Raleigh, N.C. 27603 or Layman’s Chapel Baptist Church, 306 Monk Road, Durham, N.C. 27704.

Syleana M. Kearney

HENDERSON -- Syleana Mae Kearney, 87, of 1228 Lawrence St. died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Annie K. Solomon and Walter H. Kearney.
She was educated in the Vance County school system and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where the funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday by the Revs. Richard Batts and Thomas S. Rice and Elder Walter Young. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Sallie M. Wilkins of Henderson; three sisters, Novella Littlejohn of New York and Mollie Kearney and Helen Thomas of the Bronx, N.Y.; one brother, Sylvester Kearney of Baltimore; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two stepsisters, Ester J. Foster of Henderson and Ludie Higgs of Kittrell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnes Funeral Chapel and all other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Floral bearers will be the Missionary Department of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.
