Mary N.C. Meek

LOUISBURG -- Mary Nancy Claytor Meek, 78, of Louisburg died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in Warren Hills Nursing Center. She was a native of Tazewell County, Va., and the daughter of the late Samuel Oscar and Mamie Buchanan Claytor.
She was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church, where she served the diaconate. She was a leader in the WMU, a member of the choir, a Children’s Church leader and a Sunday School member. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Alex Long Meek Jr.
She was an elementary school teacher in Tazewell County. She also worked for the North Carolina Soil Test Lab, Southeastern Theological Seminary, Carolina Sportswear and Franklin Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Maple Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Hicks and Dr. Joe R. Babb. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, O.L. “Butch” Meek of Norlina; two daughters, Delaine M. Perkinson of Wise and Mary Leigh M. Inscoe of Louisburg; two sisters, Jeanne C. Davis of Knoxville, Tenn., and Anna Gray C. Slagle of Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Joe T. Claytor of Tazewell; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be John Wheeler, Steve Young, Ronnie Goswick, Larry Goswick, Ernest B. Harris, Jackie Paynter, Spence Dean and Shane Connor. Honorary pallbearers will be the current and past deacons of Maple Springs Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Lancaster Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Maple Springs Baptist Church, c/o Amy Bright, 399 Wheless Road, Louisburg, N.C. 27549.
Arrangements are by Lancaster Funeral Home of Louisburg.

Floyd W. Parezo

OXFORD -- Floyd William Parezo, 63, of 2001 Tommy Daniel Road died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his home. He was a native of Washington, D.C., and the son of the late George and Janie Thornton Parezo.
He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, active in the Berea Fire Department and employed at the Durham Herald-Sun.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Williams. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Myrna Eakes Parezo of the home; a daughter, Sheilah P. Moore of Oxford; a son, Floyd W. Parezo Jr. of Oxford; four brothers, George T. Parezo of Germantown, Md., Frank Parezo of Bowie, Md., Francis Figliozzi of Newport Richie, Fla., and Louie Figliozzi of Bladensburg, Md.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be conducted from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home.

Wilbur B. Clark

MILWAUKEE -- Wilbur Bernard Clark died Monday, March 12, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Milwaukee.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

George Crudup

HENDERSON -- George Crudup, 88, of 707 Marshall St. died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Arthur W. Gooch

NORLINA -- Arthur Willis Gooch, 69, of Norlina died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at his home. He was a Warren County native and the son of the late Arthur Frank Gooch and Annie Harton Gooch.
He was a retired employee of Greystone Concrete in Henderson and a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Blay-lock Funeral Home in Warren-ton by the Rev. Brian Huffman and the Rev. Ann Ritter.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Abbott Gooch; three stepsons, Richard Herron of the home, Bobby Evans of Chester, Va., and Gene Evans of Rocky Mount; one sister, Mary Ann Gooch Howard of Sandston, Va.; and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Staff Builders, 1937 Highway 39, Louisburg, N.C. 27549.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Blay-lock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

John E. Graham

HENDERSON -- John Ed-ward “Edd” Graham, 65, of 56 Waters Edge, formerly of Gar-ner, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001.
He was co-founder of J&D Sprinkler Co. of Clayton and an active member of the Oxford Church of God, serving on the Pastors Council. He also was a member of the American Legion and former coach of Garner baseball.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel in Garner. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Clayton.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Graham; daughters Denese Barbour of Garner and Sherri Rogers and Debra Johnson, both of Clayton; sons Dana Graham of Clayton and Bradley Graham of Garner; sisters Willie Jo Barnes of Concord and Mary “Tootsie” Hornbeak of Kannapolis; brother Tommy Graham of Davidson; and 12 grandchildren.
The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner from 7 to 9 tonight.
Flowers are accepted, or contributions may be made to Oxford Church of God, 40 Church St., Oxford, N.C. 27565, in memory of John Edward “Edd” Graham.
Arrangements are by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Garner.

Thurman Henderson Sr.

BUTNER -- Thurman “Bae” Henderson Sr., 57, of 704 West B. St., Apt. 2-A, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Duke Medical Center.
He was a Granville County native.
Surviving are two sons, Stewart A. Henderson and Thurman Henderson Jr., both of Butner; two daughters, Shirley H. Sanford of Butner and Angela H. Lyon of Wilmington, Del.; his mother, Dinah Allen Henderson of Oxford; three brothers, Toney L. Henderson, Eugene Henderson Jr. and Robert Henderson, all of Oxford; one sister, Nuvelle Hilliard of Oxford; three grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Betts & Son Chapel by Elder John Lyon. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Maggie M.F. Kingsberry

HENDERSON -- Maggie Mae Foster Kingsberry, 73, of 1204 Pinkston St. died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at her residence. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Emmett and Havanna M. Foster.
She attended Franklin Coun-ty public schools and joined Walnut Grove Baptist Church at an early age. She was employed by Vance County Schools for 10 years as a bus monitor for exceptional children.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Bethel Baptist Church by Dr. J.H. Bryant. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are her husband, John Kingsberry Sr.; three daughters, Alice Mae Coleman of Durham and Barbara Magbie and Elizabeth Kelly, both of Henderson; one son, John Kingsberry Jr. of Henderson; two brothers, John Foster of Henderson and Herman Foster of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Turner Kingsberry Sr.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Turner Kingsberry Sr., 75, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Feb. 22, 2001, at his residence. He was a native of Hayesville in Franklin County and the son of the late Rev. Joe and Martha Kingsberry.
He received his early education in the Franklin County public school system. Upon finishing, he devoted his time to helping his parents with the farm. He moved to Newport News, Va., where he enlisted in the Navy on Jan. 12, 1944. He was honorably discharged March 19, 1946.
After his duty with the Navy, he moved to Washington, D.C., and took on various jobs, including working as a porter for Anderson House. He married Mary Louise Drew on July 20, 1946. He and his family moved to Brooklyn in the 1950s, and he worked as a truck driver and sheet-metal cutter.
Surviving are two sons, Turner Jr. and Harold Kingsberry; one granddaughter; one sister, Betty Mae Fuller; and one brother, Johnny Kingsberry.
Funeral services were conducted at noon March 1 at House of Hills Funeral Home in Brooklyn. The Rev. Rosa Anderson officiated. Interment was held in Calverton National cemetery in Calverton, N.Y.
Arrangements were by House of Hills.

James W. Wilson Jr.

OXFORD -- James W. “Jimmy” Wilson Jr., 67, of 4118 Wilson Town Road died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Durham. He was a Graville County native and the son of the late James W. Wilson Sr. and Mary Lee Wilson.
He was a member of Stovall Baptist Church and a Korean War Army veteran. He was in the previous partnership of J&S Grocery Store in Stovall for 35 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. George Custer. Entombment will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Lavern Garrett Wilson; a daughter, Cynthia Wilson Winborn of Raleigh; two sons, J. Michael Wilson of Raleigh and G. Stephen Wilson of Clayton; two sisters, Lois W. Wilkinson and Myrtle W. Cherkas, both of Stovall; three brothers, Harvey Wilson of Oxford, Clyde Wilson of Stovall and Larry Wilson of Hender-son; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

James E. Alston

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. — James Edward Alston, a resident of Peekskill formerly of Vance County, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Hudson Valley Hospital. He was the son of James Solon Alston and LeeAnn Harris Alston.
He was a graduate of the former Henderson Institute and served in the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.
He was a member of Park Street A.M.E. Zion Church in Peekskill, where he was pastor’s steward and a member of the Missionary Society.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Park Street A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will follow in the Hillside cemetery.
Surviving is his wife, Geraldine Alston.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Park Street A.M.E. Zion Church.
Friends may send memorial donations to Park Street A.M.E. Zion Church, 1220 Park St., Peekskill, N.Y. 10566, in memory of James E. Alston.
Arrangements are by Jeremiah Edwards Funeral Home of Peekskill.
Local arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

George R. Crudup

HENDERSON — George Robert Crudup, 88, of 707 Marshall St. died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Franklin County native and the son of the late Willie James Crudup and Mary A. Davis.
He was educated in the Franklin County and Granville County schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He also was employed for 15 years at the old Carolina Bagging Mill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Garnes Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Samuel Tunstall. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta K. Crudup; one brother, Luke V. Crudup of Henderson; and three stepsisters.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Rachel Hargrove

NORLINA — Rachel Hargrove, 75, of the Oine community died Monday, March 12, 2001, at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Level United Church of Christ in Manson. The Rev. Leon White, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Lucille McDaniel of Paterson, N.J., Linda D. Hargrove of Norlina and Cessal H. Jefferson of Manson; two sons, Joshua Hargrove Jr. of Warrenton and Anthony Gee of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7:30 to 8:30 tonight at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Clarence Herbert

WARRENTON — Clarence Herbert, 81, of the Parktown community died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Henderson.
Arrangements will be announced by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Ulyesses J. Holden

LOUISBURG — Ulyesses J. Holden, 50, of 1048 Fuller Road died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Magnolia Gardens in Durham. He was a Franklin County native and the son of the late Ulyesses Holden and Ludie Pearl Wright.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Garnes Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Roland Chapel United Church of Christ cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Tyree of Louisburg; three sisters, Ruby Holden of Henderson, Goldie Foster of Louisburg and Annie J. Holden of Long Island, N.Y.; and two brothers, James T. Holden of Henderson and Fred E. Holden of Gillburg.
Pallbearers and floral bearers will be friends of the family.

MANSON — Roseanna Manning Pettaway of Route 1, Manson, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Guardian Care Center.
The family will be at the home on Manson Road.

HENDERSON — Dana Robinson, 35, of 1965 Cheatham Mabry Road died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at her residence.

HENDERSON — Anthony Taylor, 37, of 1965 Cheatham Mabry Road died Wednesday, March 14, 2001.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Eugene B. Zukowsky

OXFORD — Eugene Boris Zukowsky, 60, of 9567-A George Ruff Road, Bullock, died Feb. 10, 2001, at his home. He was a former resident of Farmingdale, N.J., and the son of the late Boris and Anne Witkvitch Zukowsky.
He was of the Catholic religion and was retired from 3M after 37 years of service.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving is one sister, Joan Estelle of Farmingdale.
Visitation will be held at the graveside Saturday.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.
