Robert G. Gagnon

HENDERSON -- Robert G. “Bob” Gagnon, 55, of 168 Spring Lane died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Massachusetts and the son of the late Lionel and Clara Jolly Gagnon.
He was of the Baptist faith, a Vietnam Navy veteran and an LPN.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Rufus Hargrove and Brother Wiggs.
Surviving are his wife, Bernardine Cabezas Gagnon; two daughters, Dematerice Reyes of Henderson and Alice Waiden of Spring Hope; two sons, AO-3 Benjamin Wright, stationed in California, and Robert G. Cognon Jr. of Franklinton; a sister, CPO June Gagnon of the U.S. Navy; and seven grandchildren.
Omission of flowers is requested.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

John E. Goode

WARRENTON -- John Edd Goode, 75, of Manson died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Warren Hills Nursing Facilities.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Ethel D. Hargrove

NORLINA -- Ethel D. Hargrove, 84, of the Oine community died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Guardian Care Nursing Center in Henderson.
Arrangements will be announced by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

James C. Hayes

HENDERSON -- James Clarence “Pee Wee” Hayes, 70, of 1819 Lynne Ave., Henderson, died Monday, April 2, 2001, in Maria Parham Hospital.
A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late Frank O. and Azelee Deaver Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was a retired meat-cutter at Lowe’s Food Store of Henderson. He was a former owner of Midway Food Store in Louisburg. A recipient of the Purple Heart, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of Harriett Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Church Choir and the Men’s Adult Sunday School Class. He served on various committees at the church, including the Board of Deacons.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harriett Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Chris Sorensen and the Rev. Leon Gupton. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 41 years, Marlene Strange Hayes; a sister, Margaret L. Hayes of Henderson; a brother-in-law, J. Tim Strange, and wife, Bonny, of Henderson; four nieces, Elizabeth Strange and Valerie Strange, both of Henderson, and Denise Aycock and Brenda Long, both of Durham; a great-niece, Jennifer Long of Durham; a great-nephew, Dylan Aycock of Durham; and three godchildren, Elizabeth Ayscue, Charles Ayscue Jr. and Edward Burleson, all of Henderson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Hayes Gilbert, and a brother, William Riley Hayes.
The family will receive friends this evening, from 7 to 8:30, at Flowers Funeral Home. All others times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Donald Burleson, Roy Morton, Billy Johnson, Jake Roberson, Raymond Abbott Jr., Buddy Strange, Maynard Pegram, Earl Vick and W.G. Twisdale. The Adult Men’s Sunday School Class and the deacons of Harriett Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Harriett Baptist Church, Building Fund, c/o W.L. Hilliard, 211 Belmont Drive, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Edna C. Ramseur

OXFORD -- Edna Clingman Ramseur, 91, of Springmoor Retirement Center, Raleigh, died Sunday, April 1, 2001. She was a Winston-Salem native and the daughter of the late Richard and Vetra Brock Clingman.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Elmwood cemetery in Oxford by Dr. J. Steven Bolton.
Surviving are one daughter, T.S. Royster Jr. of Oxford; one sister, L.C. Bass of Winter Park, Fla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Oxford Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 398, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Marie F. Streb

HENDERSON -- Marie Finch Streb of Henderson, N.C., formerly of Raleigh, N.C., died Sunday, April 1, 2001.
Mrs. Streb was born in Richmond, Va., on December 22, 1905. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond B. Streb Sr. and her son, Raymond B. Streb Jr. She was a life member of the Woman’s Club of Raleigh.
Surviving are one son, John R. Streb, and wife, Kim, of Henderson, N.C.; five grandchildren, Susanne R. Streb of Arlington, Va., Cristine S. Masson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Angela S. Chirri of Fayetteville, N.C., Catherine M. Barker of Charleston, S.C., and Raymond B. Streb III of Florida; five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Oakwood cemetery, Raleigh, N.C., by Dr. Richard Walker and his wife, Lynne Walker.
The family will receive friends following the service.

W. Lonnie West Sr.

OXFORD -- W. Lonnie West Sr., 77, of 1511 Rainbow Circle died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Oxford Manor Nursing Home. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late George Taylor and Sally Hayes West.
He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and was retired from Malnove Industry in Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Mount Zion Baptist Church by the Revs. Keith Williams and Wallace Griggs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Betty P. West; a daughter, Darlene W. Tarlton of Oxford; three sons, W.L. West Jr. and Jerry Brent West, both of Oxford, and Staff Sgt. Gary W. West of Fort Carson, Colo.; two stepsons, Mike Ellington and David Ellington, both of Oxford; a stepdaughter, Debra Wood of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; three sisters, Mittie Belle West of Oxford, Pauline Faucette of Creedmoor and Virginia Parham of Raleigh; a brother, Graham West of Oxford; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Doris R. Winslow

OXFORD -- Doris Reed Winslow, 87, of Granville House, 200 Coventry Drive, died Sunday, April 1, 2001. She was a native of Perquimans County, the daughter of the late Daniel and Mattie Sumner Reed and the widow of Fred S. Winslow.
She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Winfall and was a homemaker.
Memorial services will be held at a later time.
Surviving are a son, Dan R. Winslow of Oxford, and three sisters, Anne Marshall of Elizabeth City, Elizabeth Felton of Hertford and Mattie Kelly of Arcadia, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, Main Street, Winfall, N.C. 27985.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Adrian Davis

WARRENTON -- Adrian Davis, 33, of Warrenton died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Spring Green Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton. The Rev. Dennis G. Lindsay, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his parents, Felton and Constance Alston Davis of Warrenton; three brothers, Quintin and Daryl Davis, both of Norlina, and Nolan Davis of Durham; one sister, Kendra Davis of Warrenton; and his maternal grandmother, Hilda Alston of Warrenton.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Mozelle S. Ivey

HENDERSON -- Mozelle Stainback Ivey, 89, of 1135 Glebe Road died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.

Denis J. Manning

HENDERSON -- Denis Jerome Manning, 38, of 827 Arrow St. died Friday, March 30, 2001, in New Orleans. He was a Vance County native and the son of Wilbur and Christianna Marrow Manning.
He attended Vance County public schools and North Carolina Central University.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lord Jesus Christ House of Prayers in Oxford by pastor Rupert Dudley. Burial will follow in the Antioch United Church of Christ cemetery in Townsville.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruth Kittrell Manning; one daughter, Tiffany Manning of the home; one son, Phillip Jerome Manning of the home; three sisters, Karen Hargrove and Lisa Manning, both of Henderson, and Angela Sowels of Laurel, Md.; his mother, Christianna Marrow of Henderson; and his father, Wilbur Langston Manning of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services of Henderson.

Irene L. Talley

BLOUNT CREEK -- Irene L. Talley, 70, of 915 Mount of Creek Road died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Beaufort County Hospital in Beaufort. She was a native of Hanover County, Va., and the daughter of the late David T. and Elnora Johnson Luck.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Amis Chapel Baptist Church cemetery in Oxford by the Rev. Malvin Tuck.
Surviving are her husband, Tommie Talley Jr.; one daughter, Kim T. Main of Blount Creek; one son, Andy Talley of Louisa, Va.; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Talley, 312 Whitehouse Road, Nelson, Va.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

William Voyles

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- William Voyles, 62, of 115 East Lake Drive, Braselton, Ga., died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at his residence after an extended illness. He was a Jackson County native and the son of Eva Irvin Voyles and the late Horace C. Voyles.
He was the owner of Voyles Used Cars for more than 25 years. He was a member of Suwanee Congregational Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Hillside Chapel by the Revs. Wayne Thomason and Wayne Wooten. Burial will be in Hillside Gardens in Gainesville.
Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Hillside Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Imogene Voyles of Braselton, Ga.; three sons, Joe Shoffeitt of Cleveland, Ga., Eugene Cagle of Lula, Ga., and Allen Voyles of Henderson; five daughters, Betty Shoffeitt of Lula, Geneva Jones of Flowery Branch, Ga., Joyce Southers of Gainesville, Jane Lassiter of Henderson and Cheryl Knapp of Gainesville; four brothers, Bobby Voyles of Gainesville, Harold Voyles and Steve Voyles, both of Jefferson, Ga., and Elbert Voyles of Pendergrass, Ga.; three sisters, Betty Stephens and Mary Lee, both of Pendergrass, and Geraldine Brooks of Walhalla, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Hillside Funeral Home of Gainesville.

Aubrey V. Watts

OXFORD -- Aubrey V. Watts, 78, of 8007 Peck Watts Road died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Brantwood Nursing Center. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Willie “Peck” Watts and Ella Currin Watts.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran and was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church by the Revs. Cecil Newton and Lemar Wheeler. Burial will be in Mount Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Nannie Duncan Watts; two daughters, Nancy Watts and Martha W. Gay, both of Oxford; three stepdaughters, Joyce Harris and Debbie Maddox, both of Roxboro, and Doris Gresham of Creedmoor; two stepsons, Glenn Vaughan of Durham and Eddie Vaughan of Rougemont; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home.

Mozelle S. Ivey

HENDERSON -- Mozelle Stainback Ivey, 89, of 1135 Glebe Road, Henderson, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Boz and Mary Alice Edwards Stainback. She was the widow of Charles Tucker Ivey.
She was a homemaker and a member of Island Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Island Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnson Gupton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Alice I. Overby of Henderson; two sons, Robert M. “Bob” Ivey and Charles T. “Pete” Ivey Jr., both of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they are at the home of Lewis and Alice Over-by, 1021 Glebe Road, Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Ivey, Mike Ivey, Jeff Overby, Mark Overby, Dean Overby, Chad Ivey, Adam Ivey, Gabe Ivey and Josh Ivey.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Island Creek Baptist Church, 950 Stagecoach Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.

PALMER SPRINGS, Va. -- James “Jimmie” Hillery Jeffress, 67, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at his home on Rough Road in Palmer Springs, Va.

HENDERSON -- Funeral services for Charles Newman Bowens, 69, who died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home Chapel in Louisburg. Burial will follow in Mary H. Jones cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg.

OXFORD -- Thela Green of 6535 Ben Thorpe Road died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Norlina’s Oine community. The Rev. Rosa Paschall, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Level United Church of Christ in Manson.
Surviving are six daughters, Nadine Glover and Joyce Glanton, both of Newark, N.J., Jeanetta Hargrove of Oxen Hill, Md., Susie Bailey of Norlina, and Rosiland Johnson and Lucia Seegar, both of Greensboro; five sons, Almetta Hargrove Jr. of Kenilworth, N.J., Orie Hargrove of Oxen Hill, Wilbur Hargrove of Norlina, and Chilion and Bruce Hargrove, both of the home; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kate Whitley and Melba Taylor, both of Henderson; and three brothers, Walter Durham of Henderson, Wilbur Durham of Rahway, N.J., and Maurice Durham of Kenilworth, N.J.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel.
