BRACEY, Va. -- Ellen S. Johnson, 98, of Bracey, Va., died Monday, April 9, 2001, at the Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Va.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Palmer Springs, Va., by the Rev. Dot Davis.
Surviving are one daughter, Ellen S. Johnson of Bracey; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Willie Mills

HOLLISTER -- Willie Mills, 48, of Hollister died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Prince George’s Hospital in Maryland.
Arrangements will be announced later by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

John Oakley

PHILADELPHIA -- John “Mack” Oakley, 74, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Philadelphia.
He was a native of Granville County.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Allen’s Home of Funerals in Oxford.

Elizabeth S. Sullivan

OXFORD -- Elizabeth Smith Sullivan, 79, of 401 E. Spring St. died Thursday, April 12, 2001. She was a native of Oxford and the daughter of the late Ewing and Hixie White Smith. She was the widow of Fred Lanier, David N. Hix and Dennis “Pat” Sullivan.
She was a longtime member of Oxford United Methodist Church and a member and past chairman of the Ida White Morning Circle.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oxford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gala Collins. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her children, Tom F. Lanier, Beth L. Knott, Jerry W. Lanier and Nancy Hix Wagnon; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church after the memorial service.
Memorials may be made to Oxford United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 757, Oxford, N.C. 27565, or to the North Carolina Diabetes. Association, 3109 Poplarwood Court, Suite 125, Raleigh, N.C. 27604-1043.

Rosa B. Tuck

OXFORD -- Rosa B. Tuck, 43, of 904 Raleigh St. died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center. She was a Granville County native.
She attended Granville County schools.
Surviving are her mother, Marjorie Sue Tuck of Oxford; five sisters, Elizabeth Brooks, Nellie Rice, Pearline Brimley, Irene Tuck and Ella Tuck, all of Oxford; and one brother, Oscar Tuck Jr. of Oxford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Betts & Son Chapel by the Rev. Jimmie L. Johnson. Burial will follow in the Blue Wing Church cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Russell Palmer

WARRENTON -- Russell Palmer, 67, of the Wise community died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Next Care Specialty Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Rachel J. Yancey

BUFFALO JUNCTION, Va. -- Rachel Jones Yancey, 85, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at E.E. Toney’s Nursing Home in Oxford. She was a Granville County native and the widow of Talmadge Robert Yancey.
She moved to Buffalo Junction after marrying. She was an active member of Buffalo Baptist Church and the R.E. Peele Sunday school class.
Her life’s work was with Leggett and Roses Department Stores and Russell Stover Candy Co. She retired from Russell Stover in 1974.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Chapel by the Rev. John Bohannon. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Baptist Church cemetery in Buffalo Junction.
Surviving are four sisters, Zelma Phillips of Petersburg, Erdine Brandon of Roxboro, Beth Johnson of Oxford and Rebecca Heath of LaGrange, and three brothers, James Jones of Petersburg, Va., Howard Jones of Whiteville and Reid Jones of Wilmington.
The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville, Va., from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday before the funeral.
Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Samuel Dunston

WASHINGTON — Samuel Dunston, 56, of Washington, D.C., has died.
The family will be at 1137 Booker St.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Willie D. Mills

WARRENTON — Funeral services for Willie D. Mills, 48, of Hollister will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hollister by the Rev. Thomas Richardson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Lessie Mills of Hollister; four brothers, Walter of Nashville, Robert of Landover, Md., Thurman of Fort Washington, Md., and Zollie of Hollister; and three sisters, Josephine Evans of Hollister, Dorothy Stewart of Alexandria, Va., and Shirley Silver of Hampton, Va.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Susan L. Williams

OINE — Susan Leonard Williams, 87, of Kerr Lake Bridge Road died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Community Memorial Healthcenter in South Hill, Va. She was a native of Lunenburg County, Va., and the daughter of the late Ernest Leonard and Minnie Dean Leoanrd.
She was retired from Lacrosse Sportswear, a member of Lacrosse Baptist Church and the widow of Charlie Williams.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Antioch United Methodist Church in Kenbridge, Va.
Surviving is one sister, Frances L. Ellis of Kenbridge, Va.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

James E. Branch Jr.

HENDERSON — James Edward Branch Jr., age 67, a resident of 1818 Raleigh Rd., died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Vance Co. and was the son of the late James Edward Branch Sr. and Pearl Annie Dickens Branch. He was a graduate of Henderson High School and attended North Carolina State University. He was the owner and operator of Branch Plumbing Co. and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Kerr Lake Bass Club and the Egypt Mountain Hunting Club.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 16, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Cook and Dr. James Donald Phillips. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hunt Branch; one son, James Edward Branch III, and wife Sarah of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, John Branch of Henderson; two grandchildren, Adam Winder Branch and Lauren Rebecca Branch; and one foster son, Michael Anthony Applewhite, and wife Tawyna.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home; at other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Mike Dickerson, Glenn Pulley, Woody Clayton, Neil Barnett, Marty Barnett, Bobby Vick, Tommy Thompson, Charles Fort and Wayne Gray.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all members of the Kerr Lake Bass Club and the Egypt Mountain Hunting Club.
J.M. White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jeannine M.M. Boger

SANFORD -- Jeannine Moree Moorman Boger, 72, of Sanford, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She was a native of Roanoke, Va., and the daughter of the late James Hollie Moorman and the late Thelma Ruth Weithers Moorman.
She was first employed by the old Steele Street Methodist Church in Sanford and later was a teacher at Lee County Senior High School retiring in 1990. She was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, a member of the A.S. Parker Sunday School Class and served on various committees in the church. She was secretary of the Literary Club, a member of Church Circle #11 and treasurer of the Old North State Doll Club.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tom Loftis.
Surviving are her husband, Guy H. Boger Jr. of Sanford; one son, Michael Boger of Durham; three daughters, Hollie Powell of Henderson, Jennie Dalton of Wilmington and Guyanne Lilley of Wake Forest; and eight grandchildren.
The family will be at the home, 622 N. Vance St.
Memorials may be made to the building fund at St. Luke UMC, 2916 Wicker St., Sanford, N.C. 27330 or to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are by Miller-Boles Funeral Home of Sanford.

Rebecca D. Capps

ARCOLA -- Rebecca Davis Capps, of Arcola, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at her home. She was the wife of the late Amos L. Capps.
Arrangements will be announced later by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Tina H. Coleman

WARREN COUNTY -- Tina Harrison Coleman, 34, formerly Warren County, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Piedmont Hospital in Georgia.
Arrangements will be announced later by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

George L. Edwards

HENDERSON -- George Lee Edwards, 85, formerly of 254 Stewart Road, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Granville Medical Center. He was a Vance County native, the son of the late Arthur and India Clark Edwards, and the widower of Mildred Ayscue Edwards.
He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, was a retired tobacco farmer and was a member of the Carey Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Gardens by Dr. Gene Wood.
Surviving is one brother, Raymond Edwards of Henderson.
The family will receive friends following the services at Sunset Gardens. At other times, they will be at the home of Thelma Newman, 111 Twelve-Oaks Lane in the Gillburg community.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Doug Byrom, Centura Bank, P.O. Box 1609, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by J.M. White Funeral Home of Henderson.

A. Grace Hare

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Alda Grace Hare, 82, died Saturday, April 14, 2001. She was a native of Benson and the widow of Herman H. Hare.
She was a member of Gateway Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Alda Jean Williams of Henderson; five sons, William C. Hare, Charlie E. Hare, J. Tommy Hare, Eddie R. Hare and Dennis Hare, all of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory by the Rev. Dale Burden. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Arrangements are by Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory, Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, of Norfolk, Va.

HOLLISTER -- Willie Mills, 48, of Hollister, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Prince Georges Hospital in Maryland.

Arthur C. Ragland Sr.

HENDERSON -- Arthur Clement Ragland Sr., 69, of 42 N.C. 39 Loop Road, Lot 35, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hospital after a period of declining health. He was a native of Granville County and the son of the late Otis and Iola Ragland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Big Ruin Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. C.B. Walton. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary R. Reid, Ila Jean Ragland and Katrina R. Reid, all of Henderson; two sons, Arthur Clement Ragland Jr. and George Earnest Ragland, both of Henderson; a sister, Mary E. Langley of Henderson; a brother, Willie W. Ragland of Henderson; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today.

Roy R. Stallings

HENDERSON -- Roy Ray “Hap” Stallings, 67, of 1021 Eastern Blvd., Henderson, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late John Plummer and Willie Harris Stallings.
He was a retired construction foreman with Centurion Builders. He was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blessed Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Donnie Perkinson. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Self Stallings; a daughter, Christy S. Christian of Apex; five sons, Allen Ray “Joker” Stallings and Paul Curtis Stallings, both of Wilson, Terry Patrick Stallings of Youngsville, Jeffrey Allen Stallings of Oxford, and Thomas Wayne Yates of Louisburg; a sister, Myrtle Matthews of Henderson; and four grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be T.K. Yates, Joshua Matthews, Jonathan Matthews, Ronnie Matthews, Jake West, Joey West, Charles Titmus, and Berlyn Bailey. The Adult Men’s Sunday School Class of Blessed Hope Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Blessed Hope Baptist Church, Building Fund, 741 Dabney Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.
