WARREN COUNTY — Maggie Alston, 64, formerly of Warren County, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Rebecca J.D. Capps

ARCOLA — Rebecca Johnson Davis Capps, 88, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at her residence. She was a Warren County native, the daughter of the late Weldon T. Davis and Tommie York Davis, and the widow of Amos L. Capps.
She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church for 88 years and was a Sunday school teacher and member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club. She attended Blackstone College, Louisburg College and Nursing School in Raleigh.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Steve Mullenix. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are five sons, Weldon Clinton Capps of Arcola, Lester D. Capps of Warrenton, Amos Lee Capps Jr. of Henderson, Texas, Robin W. Capps of Warrenton and John L. Capps of Gastonia; two daughters, Sylvia C. Greene of Arcola and Rebecca Lynn Martin of Arcola; three sisters, Bettie D. Howell, Lucille D. Kidd and Lorraine D. Porter; a brother, George W. Davis; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Weldon C. “Chip” Capps Jr., Timothy G. “Tim” Capps, Jonathon D. “Davis” Capps, Drew Capps, Robert Porter, John Bailey Porter and Perry Gaston.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery Fund, Route 3, Box 621, Warrenton, N.C. 27589.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Piccola B. Hicks

HENDERSON — Piccola Burnett Hicks, 41, of 1913 Willow Lane died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Olivia P. O’Neal

BUTNER — Olivia Price O’Neal, 82, of 1414 W. B St., died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Wilson County native, the daughter of the late John and Meta Rogers Price, and the widow of Walter O’Neal.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Butner, serving as a member of the Ruth Helms Prayer Group, and was retired from John Umstead Hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Carolina Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dan Hill.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty S. O’Neal and Peggy O. Williams, both of Butner, and Trudy Sparks of Kittrell; and four grandchildren.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to the Ruth Helms Prayer Group, c/o Jackie Register, P.O. Box 44, Butner, N.C. 27509, or to the Butner Planning Ahead Committee, Community Building, c/o Marshall Dixon, Box 328, Butner, N.C. 27509.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.

Herman J. Reese Sr.

HENDERSON — Herman Joseph “Shag” Reese Sr., 66, of 16841 N.C. 39 North in the Townsville community died Tues-day, April 17, 2001, at his home. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late James David and Beulah Short Reese.
He was a retired farmer and owner and operator of the Townsville Country Store. He was an avid fox hunter and was a member of numerous fox hunting associations throughout the Southeast. He was a charter member of Fork Gun Club. He was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rock Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary Brummitt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Ivey Reese; three daughters, Connie R. Roberson of Oxford, Cyndie R. Jones of Hicksboro and Ivey Maria Reese of Henderson; two sons, Gregory Blaine Reese of Drewry and Herman Joseph Reese Jr. of Hicksboro; two sisters, Ruth R. Hale of Henderson and Frances R. Propst of Townsville; four brothers, Lawrence David Reese of Asheboro, Marvin Thomas Reese of Henderson, and Morris Edward Reese and James Patrick Reese, both of Townsville; and 10 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Flowers Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Gregory Blaine Reese, James Thomas Reese, Jacob Ellington Reese, Norman Tate Jones, Lucas Joseph Jones, Zackery Reese Jones and Patrick Glossom. Honorary pallbearers will be Casey Marie Roberson, Christopher Blair Roberson, Whitney Amber Reese and Carter Alyssa Reese.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Spring Baptist Church, Building Fund, c/o Carol Capps, P.O. Box 296, Townsville, N.C. 27584.

MANSON — Sallie Mae Tarry, 54, of Manson died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Burchette Chapel United Church of Christ in Manson by the Rev. Charlie Leath, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her mother, Novella Tarry of Manson, and two sisters, Brenda Thomas of Elizabeth, N.J., and Annie T. Reid of Manson.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Kara Grace Bisogno

HENDERSON -- Kara Grace Bisogno, infant daughter of Charles and Billie Dean Pollard Bisogno of 704 Oak St., died Wednesday at Maria Parham Hospital.
Private funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church by the Rev. J. William Long. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Fred and Doris W. Pollard of Tarboro, and her paternal grandparents, Nicholas A. and Esther R. Bisogno of Henderson.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

John S. Christmas Jr.

HENDERSON -- John Samuel Christmas Jr., 68, of 331 Dick Faines Road died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Guardian Care Nursing Home.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services of Henderson.

Otho T. Clayton

KITTRELL -- Otho Thomas Clayton, 82, of 3770 Egypt Mountain Road, Kittrell, N.C., died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at his home.
A native of Person County, he was the son of the late Johnnie Thomas and Anna Ramsey Clayton.
Mr. Clayton was a retired farmer. He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Friday, at 11 a.m., at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Benjamin W. Rooker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi Breedlove Clayton; two daughters, Linda C. Claiborne of Kittrell and Wanda C. Ball, and husband Allen, of Henderson; a son, Donald T. Clayton, and wife Linda, of Henderson; a sister, Mary Fannie Dixon of Oxford; a brother, Johnnie W. Clayton, and wife Janie, of Oxford; a granddaughter, Anna Marie Ball of Henderson; four grandsons, William O. Claiborne of Oxford, Charles G. Claiborne and Robert Brian Claiborne, both of Kittrell, and Eric J. Ball of Henderson; and three great-granddaughters, Helen L. Claiborne, Sarah K. Claiborne and L. Taylor Huff, all of Oxford. He was preceded in death by a sister, Odellia C. Woodlief.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be William Otho Claiborne, Charles Glenn Claiborne, Robert Bryan Claiborne, Eric Jerome Ball, Steven Lewis Clayton, Michael Douglas Breedlove, Melvin Dixon, J.G. Clayton, Michael Breedlove Jr. and Kenneth Milton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church, c/o Barbara Burwell, 2205 Community House Road, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Russell Palmer Jr.

WARRENTON -- Russell Palmer Jr., 67, formerly of the Wise community, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at NextCare Specialty Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Macon. The Rev. William Powell, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary H. Terry of Norlina and Rosa P. Howell and Marie P. Bagley, both of the Bronx, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Maggie Alston

WARRENTON -- Maggie Alston, 64, formerly of Warren County, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday at Fork Chapel Baptist Church in Inez. The Rev. Luther Alston, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

John S. Christmas Jr.

HENDERSON -- John Samuel “Bubba” Christmas Jr., 68, of 331 Dick Faines Road died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Guardian Care Nursing Home. He was a Vance County native and the son of Fannie Williams Christmas and the late John Samuel Christmas Sr.
He attended the Vance County public schools and was a member of the former Hughes Grove Baptist Church. He retired from the former Blanks Construction Co.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Flat Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. W.M. Everett. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Venable-Christmas; two sons, Jonathan Christmas and Timothy Christmas, both of the home; five stepchildren, Edmond Venable, David Venable, Myron Skipwith, Lina Fowler and Gloria Skipwith, all of Henderson; his mother, Fannie Christmas of Henderson; two brothers, Gene Christmas and Jacob Christmas, both of Henderson; three sisters, Mary Hargrove, Fannie Thomas and Sarah Glover, all of Henderson; 18 stepgrandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence. The body will be on view at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services of Henderson.

Tina H. Coleman

WARREN COUNTY -- Tina Harrison Coleman, 34, formerly of Warren County, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Warrenton Baptist Church on Bragg Street in Warrenton. Pastor Michael Florence of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Georgia will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Dallis L. Coleman of College Park, Md.; a daughter, Shakita L. Williams of College Park, Ga.; her father, John E. Harrison Sr. of Hackensack, N.J.; a sister, Geraldine Harrison Rice of Warrenton; a stepsister, Ashala Harrison; a stepbrother, John Harrison Jr.; her maternal grandmother, Catherine J. Green of Warrenton; and her paternal grandmother, Gatha Harrison of Hackensack.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Piccola B. Hicks

HENDERSON -- Minister Piccola Burnett Hicks died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late James and Dorothy Mae Burnette.
She attended Vance County public schools and was a member of St. Andrews United Church of Christ, where she served as associate minister, adult Sunday school teacher, missionary and youth counselor.
She was the owner/operator of Joy and Peace Daycare Center and was a longtime employee of the Vance County school system.
Surviving are her husband, Bobby Hicks; two sons, J’Toine Hicks and Bobby Hicks Jr., both of Henderson; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrews Church with the Rev. C. Jerome Taylor, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Tina Evans, Alice Clark, Cora Boyd and Florence Vass. Interment will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
The body will be at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.
The family will receive friends at 1913 Willow Lane.
Floral bearers will be missionaries. Honorary floral bearers will be Melinda Hargrove, Dorothy Alston, Deboroah Foster and Sandra Hawkins.
Pallbearers will be deacons and trustees of St. Andrews Church. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons, Fred Jones, Curtis Durham, James Alexander and Wayne Foster.

Javous G. Kingsberry

KITTRELL -- Javous Gray Kingsberry, 70, of Kittrell died Tuesday, April 17, 2001.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Concord Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice Davis Kingsberry; two daughters, Ann K. Harris of Raleigh and Linda Kingsberry of Durham; two sons, David Kingsberry of Greensboro and Richard Kingsberry of Charlotte; two sisters, Mattie Hayes and Brenda Williamson; two brothers, Larry and Steve Williams; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Alston-Anderson Funeral Home in Louisburg.
Arrangements are by Alston-Anderson Funeral Home of Louisburg.

Estelle B. Cheek

WARRENTON -- Estelle Best Cheek, 94, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Hickory. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late James Henry Best and Elizabeth Conyers Best.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Blaylock Funeral Home by the Rev. Dudley Neal. Burial will follow in the Fairview cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Vivian C. Rooker of Durham; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Effie Jones Currin

HENDERSON -- Effie Jones Currin, 75, of 1214 Old Epsom Road died Friday night, April 20, 2001, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisburg. She was a native of Nash County and was the daughter of the late Tom and Annie Stallings Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of the Westwood Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Steve Jones. Burial will follow in the Liberty-Vance United Church of Christ cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Chester Currin; three daughters, Virgie O. Paschall, Cheryl C. Riddle and Connie C. Pegram, all of Henderson; three sons, Ernest Barham of Homestead, Fla., Phillip Currin of Burlington and Chester Currin Jr. of Houston; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Tammy Pegram, 2449 Weldon’s Mill Road.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Joe Pendergrass, Russ Humphries, Steve Pate, William Currin, Freddie Currin and Donnie Matthews.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Samuel Dunston

WASHINGTON -- Samuel Dunston, 57, of Washington, D.C., formerly a Vance County native, died Monday, April 2, 2001, in Washington. He was the son of the late Joe Dunston and Effie Foster.
He was educated in the Vance County public school system and was a member of the House of the Lord Holiness Church in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Garnes Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Benjamin Warren. Burial will follow in Blacknall cemetery.
Surviving are one sister, Earlene Foster Moore of Henderson, and two brothers, Joseph E. Foster and John B. Dunston of Henderson.
Pallbearers will be nephews. Floral bearers will be nieces.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.
