NEW YORK -- Lottie David Person, 66, of New York, a Warren County native, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn.

Avis T. Fox
RICHMOND, Va. -- Avis Tunstall Fox, 35, a native of Richmond, died in the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill. She was the daughter of Gwendolyn Tunstall Alston and Jerone Ryland.
She worked in Richmond as a waitress.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services by the Rev. William Ragland. Burial will follow in the Blacknall cemetery.
Surviving are her mother, Gwendolyn Tunstall Alston, and stepfather, Linwood Alston, both of Henderson; her father, Jerone Ryland, and stepmother, Jean Ryland, both of Richmond; four children, Troy Fox, Tory Fox and Floyd Fox, all of Henderson, and Unita Fox of Richmond; two sisters, Gennine Tunstall of Henderson and Erika Ryland of Richmond; and one brother, Darryll Tunstall of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her mother, 400 Dabney Height Lane in Henderson.

Davis, both of Oxford; two daughters, Veronica Nicole Looney of Oxford and Alexis D. Davis of Baltimore; two brothers, William T. Looney and Eric F. Crowell, both of Oxford; three sisters, Shelby E. Allen, Angela M. Crowell and Alice M. Branch, all of Oxford; and one stepsister, Kenisha Crowell of Oxford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Betts & Son Chapel. The burial site will be announced.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.

Jasper Williams Sr.
OXFORD -- Jasper Williams Sr., 36, of Sam Usry Road died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at his residence. He was an employee of Corporate Express in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Chapel by Elder Daniel Jenkins. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are a wife, Lisa Chavis Williams; two sons, Jasper Williams Jr. and Marvin Williams, both of Oxford; one daughter, Heather Williams; a mother, Adell Williams of Oxford; four brothers, William Thomas Hart of Stovall, Ernest B. Williams Jr. of Henderson, Roy Edward Williams and Otis Thomas Williams, both of Oxford; and two sisters, Jessie Mae Williams and Shelia Ann Williams Cooper, both of Oxford.
The family will receive visitors at the residence of Adell Williams, 3659 Cannady Mill Road. He will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home.

OXFORD -- Elvin Wyche, 69, of Jersey City, N.J., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his residence.

Bobby Durham
HENDERSON -- Bobby Durham, 54, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, after a brief illness in Baltimore. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Christine C. Durham and William “Skitmo” Durham.
He was educated in the Vance County school system.
Surviving are one daughter, Yvette Coleman of Montclair, N.J.; two sisters, Lou Betty Bas-kerville and Ann Young, both of Henderson; and one brother, Robert Bullock of Henderson.
Funeral services will be held in Baltimore.

Lottie M.D. Person
NEW YORK -- Lottie Mariah Davis Person, 66, of New York died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Cora Allen Davis and Marcellous Davis.
She was a graduate of Hawkins High School in Warrenton, furthering her education by attending a New York school of nursing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brookston Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Otis Person of Henderson; one daughter, Lisa Davis of Hender-son; one sister, Middie E. Davis of Brooklyn; 10 stepchildren; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of Lisa Davis, 416 Boddie St. in Henderson.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Floral bearers will be friends of the family.

WARRENTON -- Mary Louise Touchet White, 78, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Community Memorial Health-center in South Hill, Va.

BUNN -- Margaret Pendleton Debnam, 81, of Bunn died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at her home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Bunn cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Jewel D. Medlin of Bunn; one son, Ashley Debnam of Youngsville; three sisters, Lillie Privette, Rachel Griffin and Betty Jean Clark, all of Louisburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Daniel E.V. Johnson Sr.
HENDERSON -- Daniel E.V. Johnson Sr., 64, of Henderson died Friday, April 28, 2001. He was a native of Johnston County and the son of the late Herbert E.V. Johnson.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Casey Family cemetery in Smithfield.
Surviving are one son, Daniel E.V. Johnson Jr. of Louisburg; his mother, Myrtle Louise Casey Crumpler of Smithfield; three brothers, Robert Johnson of Carrboro, Larry Johnson of Pittsboro and Steve Johnson of Princeton; two sisters, Faye Painter of Asheboro and Judy Mozingo of Holland, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Richard A. Susewell Jr.
MANSON -- Richard Allen Susewell Jr., 77, of Manson died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
He was the son of the late Richard and Anna Alice Frazier Susewell.

Elvin Wyche
OXFORD -- Elvin Wyche, 69, of Jersey City, N.J., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Jersey City. He was the son of the late Phil Wyche Jr. and Essie Parker Wyche.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in New Hope Granville Baptist Church’s cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Ella Bernette Wyche of Redwood City, Calif., and Leslie Smith, Coretta Williams and Latasha Williams, all of Jersey City; one son, Willie Ernest Wyche of Durham; two stepdaughters, Aquanetta Moore and Kimberly Sampson; one brother, Nelvin Wyche of Jersey City; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home.

Vernell M. Bowes
Butner -- Vernell Mitchell Bowes, 75, a resident of 616 25th St., died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Triangle Hospice at the Meadowlands in Hillsborough. She was a native of Granville County and was the daughter of the late Hollis and Beulah Davis Mitchell.
She was a member of the Mount Carmel Christian Church in Franklinton. She was retired from John Umstead Hospital in Butner, where she worked for more than 30 years.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roger Culpepper. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, William Rancher “Bill” Bowes; one daughter, Brenda T. Ramey of Butner; one son, Terry Turner of Butner; one stepdaughter, Patricia B. Adcock of Henderson; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the deacons of Mount Carmel Christian Church.

Hubert L. Bullock
CREEDMOOR -- Hubert Lee Bullock, 64, of 1659 Northside Road died Friday, April 27, 2001, at his home. He was the son of the late Garland and Viola Barnette Bullock.
He was a member of the Synama Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Male Chorus and Usher Board. He was also a member of the Male Chorus at Greenfield Baptist Church.
Surviving are one sister, Erma Lee Green of Durham, and two brothers, Roy Bullock of the home and John Bullock of Durham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Synama Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Jackson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 tonight at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of his sister, 4625 Redwood Road in Durham.

Nancy ‘Nina’ Brown
CLARKSVILLE, VA. -- Mrs. Nancy “Nina” Brown, 85, resident of Eppes Forks, Va., died Sunday morning. Mrs. Brown was a devoted wife and loving mother. She is predeceased by a daughter, Faye Slaughter.
Surviving are her husband, Mac Brown; and one son, Ron Brown and wife, Vicky, of Durham; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rock Spring Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday at the home.
Langdon Butler
OXFORD -- Langdon Butler, of 3186 Gela Road, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Granville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday in Quincy, Fla.
Viewing was held Tuesday at the funeral home.

George H. Clark
HENDERSON, N.C.-- George Holt Clark, 66, of 2331 Stewart Farm Road, Henderson, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 at his home.
A native of Vance County, he was the son of the late Osby Clyde and Lucy Daniel Hicks Clark.
Mr. Clark was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and was a retired Shade Formulator with Burlington Industries, Inc. Prior to his employment with Burlington Industries, he was a supervisor with Cristex, Inc. in Oxford, where he was employed for nineteen years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, at 2 p.m., at Central Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Alan W. McAlister. Entombment will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Daniel Clark; two daughters, Lyn Clark Wilson, and husband, Steve, and Paula Clark Fisher, and husband, Mike, all of Henderson; a son, Craig Holt Clark, and wife, Melinda, of Henderson; a granddaughter, Deanna Louise Clark, of Henderson; four grandsons, Steve Ernie Wilson, Jr., Matthew Bennett Fisher, Allen Michael Fisher, and Trenton Otis Clark, all of Henderson; and two sisters, Inez C. Weaver, of Henderson, and Janie C. Aiken, of Creedmoor, N.C. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion C. Dickerson, and five brothers, Clyde C. Clark, Dolphus T. “Whitey” Clark, Willard B. Clark, Alton D. “A.D.” Clark, and Julian R. Clark.
The family received friends Monday evening, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they are at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be R.C. Daniel, Tom Stewart, Bud Wilson, Timmy Williams, Ron Sutton, Isaac Pegram, Eddie Allgood, and John Allen. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Gene Newton, Gale Ramsey, Donald Pilson, Wallace Greenway, James Hicks, and Chuck Elgin.

Margaret P. Griffin
HENDERSON -- Margaret Powers Griffin, 71, of 173 Lynn Haven Avenue died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at 4:10 a.m., after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 30, 2001, at First Baptist Church, in Henderson, N.C., at 2 p.m., conducted by Dr. Marion D. Lark. The burial followed immediately at Sunset Gardens. The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Flowers Funeral Home on 1833 Oxford Road in Henderson.
Born in Lumberton, N.C., on August 31, 1929, she was the eldest child of Julius Hallie and Mary Wellington Powers. Her childhood was spent in Robeson County, where she graduated from Barker Ten Mile School. She earned A.B. and B.S. degrees from Mars Hill College and East Carolina University. She did graduate work at The University of Montana at Billings and American University in Washington, D.C.
Margaret’s dedication to education and social work was demonstrated by her years of service teaching in Wake County and on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Lamedeer, Montana. She was a social worker in Rocky Mount and in the counties of Vance, Franklin and Nash. She was a Family and Children’s Supervisor in Vance County. She was the State and District “Social Worker of the Year” in 1978.
Margaret was a good friend to many. She was a Sunday school teacher, an avid reader, a sports aficionado, a gardener, a bridge player, a traveler, an animal lover and a lover of the arts. She was President of the AARP, President of the Rosemont Garden Club, President of the Henderson Women’s Club, a member of the Colonial Garden Club, an active member of First Baptist Church of Henderson and President of her Church Circle. She worked with the Vance County Board of Elections for twelve years. She served as Chief Judge at the Hillside precinct.
Margaret is predeceased by her father, Julius Hallie Powers, her mother, Mary Wellington Powers, and brothers James Horace and John Dixon Powers. She is survived by her husband and closest friend of forty-nine years, Guy Livingston Griffin. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jack (Mary) James of Oak Island, N.C., and Mrs. Jean Worcester of Lumberton, N.C.; and a brother, Franklin D. Powers of Lumberton, N.C. Margaret had eight nieces, ten great-nieces, ten nephews and nine great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 205 W. Winder Street, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Honorary guests at the funeral service were The “Joy” and the Dorothy Currin Sunday School Classes of First Baptist Church, the Vance Board of Elections, Bridge Clubs, AARP and Colonial Garden Club.
Serving as active pallbearers were Pete Ivey, W.R. Duke, Rusty Duke, Jeff Wood, Ronnie Keith Lassiter, Steve Garrison, Johnny Roberts, Derik Willetts, Dause Dement, Moses Moye and Garrett Griffin.
Flowers Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
