WARRENTON -- Thurman Lee Hargrove Jr., 34, of Warrenton died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at United Solid Rock Faith Ministries. The Rev. Earnest Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Level United Church of Christ cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Lori A. Hargrove; one daughter, Demesha Hargrove of the home; one son, Danille Hargrove of the home; one foster daughter, Anndreana Hargrove of the home; his mother, Stella Hargrove of Atlantic City, N.J.; his father, Thurman Hargrove Sr. of Henderson; one sister, Amy Hargrove of Warrenton; and one brother, John Lee Hargrove of Warrenton.
The body will be on view this morning at Boyd’s Funeral Ser-vices until taken to the church one hour before the service.

FRANKLINTON -- Tashawn Montriez Kearney, 12, of 18 Carver St. died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his residence.

Carol V. Mayo
ASHEVILLE -- Carol Vaughan Mayo, 49, of Asheville died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Hospice Solace Center following a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
Carol was a loving and devoted wife and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She cared deeply about her family and friends. We will all miss our angel.
Carol was born in Miami, Fla., on February 2, 1952, and was preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Vaughan. Carol retired from BellSouth with 30 years of service, and she was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville.
Surviving are her loving husband, Joseph D. Mayo III of the home; her mother and stepfather, Suzanne G. and Edward Norris of Hendersonville; sisters Linda Hooper and husband Chesley of Pittsburg, Texas, Kathryn Allison and husband Robert of Etowah, Pamela Starnes and husband Lee of Waynesville; brothers Robert L. Vaughan and wife Tracey of Lexington, Ky., Donald Norris and wife Christine of Watkinsville, Ga., and David Norris of Hendersonville; 10 nieces and nephews; one grandniece; and a dear friend for 40 years, Carol B. Childs.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Rev. Gil Coulter will officiate.
Her family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, where we can all share loving memories of Carol.

GREENSBORO -- Elizabeth Plummer Perry, 93, of Greensboro died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. She was a native of the Inez community of Warren County and was the widow of Simuel M. Perry.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Baptist Church by the Rev. Julius Debnam. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Willie S. Perry of Elizabeth, N.J.; five daughters, Victoria Ratliff of Warrenton, Edna Harrelson of Greensboro, Christine Jones of Hempstead, N.Y., Hermenia Chunn of Charlotte and Demetris “Dee” Perry of Chapel Hill; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

HENDERSON -- Eric Antonio Ramiez, infant son of Lettica Ramiez, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.

Mary A.W. Whirley
OXFORD -- Mary Ann Wallace Whirley, 46, of 500 Prospect Ave. died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late John Thomas Wallace.
She was of the Baptist faith and was medically retired.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Delos Miles. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are a son, Michael W. Jones; a daughter, Mary Lynn Whirley; her mother, Mary Bell Wallace; and two brothers, Robert L. Wallace and Tommy L. Wallace, all of Oxford.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at 409 Coggeshall St.

Bertha F. Whitfield
FRANKLINTON -- Bertha Futrelle Whitfield, 86, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Rex Hospital. She was the widow of Dr. Richard C. Whitfield.
She was a charter member of the Franklinton Woman’s Club, where she was serving as president; former member of the Pilot’s Club; retired schoolteacher; past national president of the Women’s Auxiliary to the American Optometric Association; volunteer at the North Carolina Art Museum; one of the 100 Outstanding Alumnae of Meredith College, where she graduated in 1936; served on the Town Board of Franklinton for eight years and was mayor pro tem; served on the Franklinton School Board; and was a member of Franklinton United Methodist Church and served on various boards and committees throughout the years, as well as being a member of the choir.
While residing at Independence Village in Raleigh, she was serving as a board member for the village and played piano for Sunday school and church services. She had a local radio news show on WYRN in Louisburg and was a contributing news correspondent and photographer for The Franklin Times and The Raleigh Times.
A celebration-of-life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Franklinton United Methodist Church by the Rev. Luis F. Reinoso. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Richie Duncan of Dallas and Martha Edelstein of Raleigh, and two granddaughters.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Sandling Funeral Home in Franklinton.

WARRENTON -- Charleye Ann “Chuck” Burruss, 67, of Route 3, Warrenton, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Ma-ria Parham Hospital. She was a Mecklenburg County native.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Surviving are her husband, Richard “Rick” Burruss; two sons, Richard A. Burruss III of Henderson and John Charles Burruss of South Hill, Va.; one daughter, Charleye B. McArthur of Inez; two brothers, Jack Osborne and Theodore Osborne, both of Athens, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.
The family will be at the residence Sunday.

Robert D. Moss
OXFORD -- Robert Donald Moss, 65, of 1519 Buggs Island Road in Palmer Springs, Va., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at his daughter’s home in Oxford. He was a Warren County native and the son of the late Robert Lee and Mabel Raines Moss.
He was a farmer and was owner of R.D. Moss Trucking.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Cam Ford. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn United Church of Christ cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Shir-ley Barnes Moss of Richmond, Va.; three daughters, Pamela Moss Newhouse of Oxford and Donna Gayle Moss and Jenni-fer Lynne Moss, both of Rich-mond, Va.; one son, Robert Don-ald Moss Jr. of Mechanicsville, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Gerald Tripp, Bob DeGraff, Mike McCracken, Bill Robinson, Larry Clark, Tommy Clark, Roy Newhouse and Bill Edwards.

Surviving are his father, Shawn Kearney of Warrenton; his mother and stepfather, Stacey Person Richardson and Bobbie Richardson of the home; one sister, Charmaine Richardson of the home; four stepsisters, Erica Richardson and Anita Richardson, both of Louisburg, Ature Sade Kearney and Alexis Symone Kearney, both of Warrenton; his maternal grandparents, William Henry Hunter and Betty Hunter of Kittrell and Cleo Person of Kittrell; paternal grandparents are Allen Kearney and Mary Kearney of Warrenton and Phyllis Norfleet of Louisburg; paternal great-grandmother, Annie Richardson of Louisburg.

Virginia S. Heard
FRANKLIN COUNTY -- Virginia Solomon Heard, died in Prince George County, Md., on Thursday, May 3, 2001, She was a Frankllin County native and the daughter of the late Sam and Dorsey Branch.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Lilly officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Edward Heard and Lionel Heard, both of Maryland; one sister, Clara L. Lewis of Henderson; four brothers, Wesley Solomon, Eddie Solomon, Herman Solomon, and Cecil Solomon, all of Philadelphia, Pa.; and several grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday at the home of Clara Lewis, 215 Lemay Lane in Henderson.

Dr. Mary Louise Touchet White
Dr. Mary Louise Touchet White, 78, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2001, after a brief illness at Community Memorial Health Center in South Hill, Va.
Dr. White was born in Escanaba, Mich., on May 3, 1922. She was the daughter of Roy and Gladys Touchet. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1945 and married Joseph M. White, M.D., of Baltimore, Md., in the same year. She practiced as an anesthesiologist at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J., from 1959 to 1987.
Since her retirement, Dr. White was a resident of Warrenton, N.C., where she counseled substance abusers and volunteered at the Warren Correctional Institution and the Addiction Recovery Center for Women in Henderson, N.C.
She is survived by her children, Joseph White of Greenwich, Conn., Stan White of Ledgewood, N.J., and Peggy Richardson of Warrenton, N.C.; three grandchildren; a brother, Tom Touchet of Warrenton, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

NORLINA -- Britt Berry Caulder, 83, of Norlina, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late B.C. Caulder and Tina Collins Caulder.
He was a member of the Norlina Baptist Church, a World War II Army veteran and a retired plumber and pipe fitter for Union 785. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Rivers Caulder.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Bryant Caulder of Norlina and Samuel B. “Buster” Caulder of Harrisburg; sister, Ruth Myrick of Portsmouth, Va.; brothers, Elliott Caulder of Henderson and Bobby Caulder of Ebony, Va.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

CREEDMOOR -- Howard R. Davis, 67, of the Brassfield community, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, in Sampson County. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Lee and Pearl O’Neal Davis.
He was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Burlington Industries.
A private funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor by the Rev. Don Brown.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Horton Davis of the home; two stepdaughters, Dolly Williams of Youngsville and Jean Anderson of Creedmoor; three stepsons, Clarence Williams of Louisburg, Jimmy Pennington and Gary Pennington, both of Youngsville; three sisters, Ethel Williams of Butner, Louise Allgood of Henderson and Inez Wheeler of Creedmoor; one brother, John Davis of Butner; and seven grandchildren.

OXFORD -- Sandra Blackwell Godwin, 48, of 218 Monmouth Ave., Durham, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Duke Medical Center. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of Reuben and Eva Parham Blackwell.
She was a member of Watts Street Baptist Church and was employed by Duke University Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Watts Street Baptist Church in Durham by the Rev. Mel Williams. Burial will be in Mt. Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Granville County at 4 p.m.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Dowell L. Godwin; a daughter, Melissa Godwin, a student at East Carolina University; a son, Spencer Godwin of the home; and a sister, Caroline Saleeby of Fuquay Varina.
