Doug Patterson

FRANKLINVILLE -- Douglas Perry Patterson, 61, of 610 Andrew Hunter Road died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. He was a native of Henderson.
He had worked at Phillips Brothers County Ham and was co-owner and operator of Fran’s Chicken Hut. He was a member of Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church, was a hospice volunteer and served in the North Carolina National Guard.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Ann Patterson; two daughters, Pamela Priddy and Kimberly Garner, both of Asheboro; three sons, David Patterson, Phillip Patterson and Larry Shope Jr., all of Asheboro; four sisters, Nellie Aycock of Henderson, Carolyn Berger of Richmond, Va., Shirley Hanford of Anderson, S.C., and Nora Short of Concord; five brothers, Jerry Patterson, Wayne Patterson and Lynwood Patterson, all of Henderson, Brooks Patterson of Charlotte, and Glen Patterson of Staunton, Va.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 515, Asheboro, N.C. 27204, or to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, N.C. 27204.
Arrangements are by Ridge Funeral Home of Asheboro.

Laverne M. Alston

HENDERSON -- Laverne Marie Alston, 33, of Townsville, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was the daughter of Albert Branch and the late Susie Bee Alston.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hargrove Chapel Methodist Church by the Rev. Donnie Jones. Interment will be in the Hunt Family cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Marketa Alston of the home; her father, Albert Branch of Charlottesville, Va.; two sisters, Alberta Branch Champion of Henderson and Ida Adams of Charlottesville, Va.; three brothers, Bernard Branch, Kenneth Branch of Henderson and Randy Pettaway of Townsville.
The family will receive friends at 1400 Keeton Road, Townsville.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

George L. Bullock

MACON -- George Lenzy Bullock Jr., 54, of Rt. 2, Macon, died Monday. He was the son of Pattie L. Bullock and the late George Lenzy Bullock.
Arrangements will by announced later by Brown’s Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Lena D. Burnette

NORLINA -- Lena Darnell Burnette, 79, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Warren Hills Nursing Home in Warrenton.
She was a member of Norlina Baptist Church and a retired homemaker.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Norlina Baptist Church by the Rev. Carlyle Hall. Burial will be in the Warren Dale cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Lawson G. Burnette of Norlina; seven children, Ellen L. Burnette and Alice B. Ranes, both of Drewery, Sandra B. King of Macon, Robert A. Burnette of Drewery, Charles Burnette of Henderson, Allen Burnette of Shrewsbury, Pa., and Tony Burnette of Norlina; one sister, Ava D. King of Norlina; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

James Davis

HENDERSON -- James Davis died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hositals.
The family will be at 709 N. Garnett St.

Lindbergh Falkner

HENDERSON -- Lindberg “L.B.” Falkner, age 73, a resident of 2358 Vicksboro Road, died Monday morning at Maria Parham Hospital.
He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Otis Greene and Lizzie Matthews Falkner.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served during World War II, and a member of the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church and John H. Mills Masonic Lodge No. 624 AF&AM at Epsom. He was retired from Universal Leaf Tobacco Company as chief regrader, where he worked for over 40 years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Burgess. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military and Masonic Rites.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Wilson Falkner, of the home; one daughter, Lisa F. Royster of Middleburg; one son, Craig Evans Falkner of Henderson; one sister, Carrie Maxine F. O’Brien of Henderson; one half-brother, Junious Falkner of Henderson; and three grandchildren, Daniel Evan Falkner, Kayla Elizabeth Royster, and Kendall Marie Royster.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be J.J. Matthews, H.T. Brame, Royster Fields, Charles Robinson, David Hughes, Lewis Edwards, James Falkner, Wayne Grissom, Neil Jordan, Wayne Hicks, Otis Falkner III, Thomas Hughes, and Wayne Dickerson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the North Carolina Children’s Home Society; P. O. Box 14608; Greensboro, N. C. 27415-4608.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Aubrey K. Goss Sr.

CREEDMOOR -- Aubrey Kitchen Goss Sr., 89, of 2621 W. Lyons Station Road, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his home. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Ervin and Bessie Adams Goss. He was the widower of Vida Mae Keith Goss.
He was a member of Living Worth Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Terry Hall. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are three daughters, Louise Goss Hines of Henderson, Josephine Goss Stephens and Lurline Goss King, both of Creedmoor; two sons, Aubrey Goss Jr. of Oxford and Billy Thompson Goss of Creedmoor; two brothers, Joe Goss and Badge Goss, both of Creedmoor; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Creedmoor.

Beulah W. Hardee

WARRENTON -- Beulah Woody Hardee, 74, formerly of Warren County, died Sunday, May 13, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Hardy William Woody and Carrie Lou Burgess Woody and the widow of Hilliard Thomas Hardee.
She was retired form nursing from North Carolina Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Blaylock Funeral Home by the Rev. Frank Mullis. Interment will follow at Reedy Creek Baptist Church.
Family and friends will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Thomas L. Harris

GREER -- Thomas Leonidas Harris, 78, of 315 Skylark Circle, husband of Ruth Powell Harris, died May 13, 2001, at his home.
A native of Chesterfield County, Virginia, son of the late James Marion and Maggie Evans Harris, he was a retired employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad, and a member of Pelham Road Alliance Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, James B. Harris of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one daughter, Candace H. Buchanan of Greenville, S.C.; three sisters, Frances Pickett and Sue Rooker, both of Henderson, N.C., and Agnes Carroll of Warrenton, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James B. Harris, and a sister, Edna Overby.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pelham Road Alliance Church, conducted by Rev. J. Timothy Yale and Rev. Calvin Vick.
Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Hospice, 414-A Pettigru Street, Greenville, S.C. 29601.
Arrangements are by The Wood Mortuary Inc.

Camille Hicks

WARRENTON ­ Camille Hicks, 21, of the Afton community, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Alonzo W. Royster

OXFORD -- Alonzo W. Royster, 79, of the Oxford Manor Nursing Center, died Saturday, May 12, 2001.
He was a member of the Blue Wing Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mylissa C. Royster; two daughters, Ollie Lindsey of Oxford and Rita Childress of South Boston, Va.; one son, Ricky A. Royster of South Boston, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Wing Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. John E. Hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc.

Grace L. Weaver

SPARTA, Wis. -- Grace L. Weaver, 95, of Sparta, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. She was born Grace Lida Short, daughter of Harry Hess Short and Edith Ann Roth on December 5, 1905, in Buffalo, New York, where she lived until Junior High.
She moved with her parents, brother, Harry Elmer Short, and sister, Edith Anna Frazier, to St. Louis where she graduated from Harris Teachers College and taught until her marriage to Army Lt. Joseph Upton Weaver, M.D. on April 2, 1932 in San Antonio, TX. They began married life at Fort Sam Houston, TX, where twin sons, John Short Weaver and Joseph U. Jr., were born in 1933. An active military wife who lived and taught in assorted posts in the U.S., the Philippines, Japan, Guam, and Austria until settling in Henderson, N.C., where Dr. Weaver was public Health Administrator until two years prior to his death in 1975 after 43 years of marriage.
She lived in an interesting time in history having known Charles Lindberg as a girl, Presidential Counselor Clark Clifford who was a classmate of her husband in St. Louis, and later General and Mrs. Douglas MacArthur and Japanese Prince Kikigawa and family and attended the war crime trials in Japan.
An avid bridge player, garden club member and devoted worker in the Episcopal Church, she moved to Sparta, WI., to live with Joe and Lynne Weaver in 1992.
Her surviving family includes, John (wife Linda Briley) Weaver of Henderson, N.C., and Joseph U. Jr. (wife Lynne Sutton) Weaver of Sparta, WI.; granddaughters, Laura Lynne Morris-deceased (and husband Lee) of Schertz, TX, and Wesley Anne (and husband Jeffrey) Clifton and great grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Clifton of Fort Sill Oklahoma, and nephews, Nicholas and Anthony Short, and David Frazier.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harry Elmer Short, and a sister, Edith Anna Frazier.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Sparta, WI., with Father John Splinter officiating. Burial will be in the Raleigh National cemetery, Raleigh, N.C.
The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, WI., assisted the family with arrangements.

Nannie S. West

LITTLETON -- Nannie S. West, 70, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Franklin Regional Medical Center. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Garnett Lee Shearin and Hannah Conner Shearin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Littleton Bpatist Chruch by the Rev. Mike Currin. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Littleton.
Surviving are two daughters, LaDanna Paynter of Wise and Garnett Sigmon of Norlina; three sons, James W. West and Glenn E. West, both of Littleton, and Randy West of Vaughan; four brothers, George Shearin and Rhodes Shearin, both of Castellia, David Lee Shearin of Rock Hill, S.C., and Cecil Shearin of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Blaylock Funeral Home in Littleton.

Camille Hicks

WARRENTON -- Camille Hicks, 21, of the Afton community died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Allen Chapel Baptist Church in Louisburg. The Rev. C.L. Dunston, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her mother, Antoinette Hawkins Thornton of the home; her stepfather, Eddie Thornton of the home; one brother, Keon M. Hicks of the home; one stepsister, Henriquetta Thornton; two stepbrothers, Anthony Hatcher and Kwame Thornton; her maternal grandparents, Samuel and Myrtle Hawkins of Warrenton; her paternal grandfather, Johnnie C. Hicks of Louisburg; and one stepgrandmother, Janet Bullock of Stovall.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton until being taken to the church one hour before Thursday’s services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Norwood ‘Pete’ Partin

OXFORD -- Norwood “Pete” Partin, 65, of 501 Cherry St. died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at his residence. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Claude and Nettie Hines Partin.
He was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church, a member of the Granville County Sheriff’s Department Auxiliary for 20 years and retired from Harriet & Henderson Yarns.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oxford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gala Collins. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving is his wife, Faye Bridgers Partin of the home.
Memorials may be made to Oxford United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 757, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation for the family will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Charles M. Antosh

HENDERSON -- Charles Michael Antosh, 69, a resident of 114 Diamond Point Lane, Pool Rock Plantation, died Tuesday morning, May 15, 2001, at his home. He was a native of Larkesville, Pa., and was the son Helen Majewski Antosh of the home and the late Casimir Antosh.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a retired mechanical engineer from Varian Associates in Beverly, Mass.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Shirley McAllister Antosh of the home; one daughter, Carol A. Rykowski of Henderson; one son, David C. Antosh of Kearny, N.J.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Father J. William Long.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vance County chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Frances Polston, 1611 Parker Lane, Henderson, N.C. 27536.

Clifton J. Capps

TOWNSVILLE -- Mr. Clifton Jordan “Jay” Capps, age 79, of 522 Keeton Road died at his residence Tuesday, May 15, 2001.
Mr. Capps was a native of Vance Co., the son of the late Clinton & Lucy Shearin Capps, a retired farmer and a member of Bullock Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, from Bullock Baptist Church by the Rev. Lemar Wheeler and the Rev. Gary Brummitt. Burial will follow in Royster cemetery, Bullock, N.C.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alleine Tingen Capps of the home; two daughters, Diane Capps Newman & husband, Dalton, of Henderson, N.C., and Vicky Capps Stokes & husband, David, of Henderson, N.C.; one son, Clifton J. Capps Jr. & wife, Carol, of Townsville, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Capps Matthews of Bullock, N.C., Mrs. Marie Capps Woodard of Ridgetop, Tenn., and Mrs. Ruby Capps Parham of Oxford, N.C.; five brothers, William E. Capps, Horace Capps, both of Bullock, N.C., Clinton Capps Jr., Douglas Capps, both of Henderson, and Allen Capps of Sanford, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Stewart Capps, Staci McGhee, Ashley Abbott, Tiffany Newton and D.J. Stokes.
Mr. Capps was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Capps.

OXFORD -- Mary Elizabeth Currin “Lib” Cozart, 82, of 608 Williamsboro St. died Tuesday, May 15, 2001. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Arthur Alexander and Ruby Mae Woody Currin.
She was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church, the U.D.C. and the Granville County Extension and Community Association. She was a former employee of Murdock Center in Butner.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Oxford Baptist Church by the Rev. J. Steven Bolton. Private graveside services will follow at Rehoboth United Methodist Church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Allen F. Cozart Sr.; two sons, Allen F. Cozart Jr. of Lakeside, Calif., and Arthur T. Cozart of Ashland, Va.; a daughter, Helen Betsy Cozart of Manassas, Va.; three sisters, Sarah Loftis of Winston-Salem, Katherine Fellenbaum of Richmond, Va., and Mamie Lee Hoffman of Oxford; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
