WARREN COUNTY -- Morris Durham, 29, of Warren County died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Middleburg. The Rev. A.A. Brown will officiate.
Surviving are five sisters, Linda F. Alexander of Newark, N.J., Karen D. Henderson and Wendy Durham, both of Warrenton, and Hattie Cooper and Lizzie Durham, both of Orange, N.J.; one brother, Charles Durham III of the home; and a grandmother, Minnie Yancey.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Russell T. Harris

HENDERSON -- Russell T. Harris, 84, of the Brantwood Nursing and Retirement Center died Wednesday, May 30, 2001. He was the son of the late Elijah Harris and Eva Hammie Harris.
Surviving are four sons, Thomas L. Harris of Irvington, N.J., Russell Harris Jr. of Newark, N.J., and Robert E. Harris and Larry D. Harris, both of Henderson; eight daughters, Lucy M. Harris and Barbara A. Harris, both of Newark, Bessie H. Daniels of East Orange, N.J., Estelle C. Harris of Henderson, Mary Ann Harris of Linden, N.J., and Dorothy H. Jones, Carolyn H. Bullock and Esther H. Tuck, all of Oxford; 31 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Union A.M.E. Zion Church in Wilton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home of Oxford.

Nathaniel Jones

WARRENTON -- Nathaniel “Chicken” Jones, 80, of Warrenton died Monday, May 28, 2001, in Durham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Jones Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. James R. Fogg will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Meriam Vann of Henderson and Grecia King of Winston-Salem; two sons, Morton S. Jones of Henderson and Nathaniel Jones of the home; two brothers, James D. Jones and Robert Davis; two sisters, Adlean Durham and Willie Mae Turner; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Viola L. Lloyd

OXFORD -- Viola Ligon Lloyd, 87, of 604 Cherry St. died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Senior Citizens Home of Henderson. She was a Granville County native, the daughter of the late Charlie L. and Florance Oakley Ligon and the widower of Tot Lloyd.
She was a member of Oxford Baptist Church and a former member of Mary Jamieson Woman’s Club.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Patrick Cox. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving is one brother, R.H. Ligon of Kenbridge, Va.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to Oxford Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 398, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford.

HENDERSON -- Dr. William “Bill” Lott of 1150 E. Montgomery St. died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

HENDERSON -- Susie Belle Terry, 81, of the Guardian Care Nursing Facility died Wednesday, May 30, 2001.

LOUISBURG -- George Wilson, 64, of 170 George Leonard Road, Louisburg, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his residence.

Alice Rulane Boyd

CHAPEL HILL -- Alice Rulane King Boyd, 52, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Chapel Hill Rehabilitation Center. She was a Durham County native and the daughter of the late Rufus and Betty Solane King.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Jacobs Hall of Raleigh, and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clements Funeral Home. No funeral service is planned.

HENDERSON -- Rosa M. Harris, 69, of 280 S. Beckford Drive died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.

HENDERSON -- Sfc. Gilbert Lee Hawkins Jr., 40, of Henderson died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Elizabethtown, Ky.

Delores Scott

WARREN COUNTY -- Delores Scott, 54, formerly of Warren County, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at the Woodhaull Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at R.H. Greene Funeral Home in Warrenton. The Rev. Lennie Thorpe will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alston family cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Edward R. Scott of New Bern; four grandchildren; her parents, Arthur and Mozelle Alston of Warrenton; six brothers; and four sisters.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

George ‘Chuck’ Wilson

LOUISBURG -- George “Chuck” Wilson, 64, of 170 George Leonard Road died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his residence. He was a Franklin County native and the son of the late Zollie and Rosa Jordan Wilson.
He was educated in the Heck’s Grove School in Warren County and was an employee of Harriet & Henderson Yarns for 33 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jordan Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. James Barham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Maggie Judkins Wilson; six daughters, Gladys Blacknall, Betty Wilson, Ava White and Janet Williams, all of Louisburg, and Sarah Wilson and Jackie Wells of Henderson; three sons, George Allen Wilson of the home, Rodney Wilson of Marietta, Ga., and McDonald Milon of Warrenton; three sisters, Elizabeth Williams of Louisburg, Annie Champion of Henderson and Emily Merchant of Cameron, N.J.; two brothers, Zollie Wilson Jr. of Warrenton and Clyde Wilson of Henderson; 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Dr. William B. Lott

HEIDELBERG, Miss. -- Dr. William Benjamin Lott died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was a native of Jasper County, Heidelberg, Miss., and the son of the late Daniel and Lula D. Lott.
At an early age, he joined the First Enterprize Baptist Church and after moving to the Boston area was a member of the Twelfth Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church for 19 years. He later moved to Henderson and became a faithful member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in 1987. He was a member of the Laymen’s League, serving as secretary, chancellor choir and church school counselor and on the building project finance committee.
He graduated from Nichels High School in Biloxi, Miss., and Simmons College in Boston. He furthered his studies at Harvard University and later taught at Boston University. He was U.S. veteran of World War II, serving in Japan.
He worked as a clinical psychotherapist for many years and retired as director of professional services for family and children’s services in Lynn, Mass. After moving to Henderson, he worked at Community Counseling Services and provided individual psychotherapist services to the community. He was a member of the Henderson Rotary Club, Vance County Arts Council, North Carolina Coalition of Adolescent Pregnancy, board of directors of Maria Parham Hospital and many more.
Surviving are one son, William B. Lott Jr. of Lynn, Mass.; one daughter, Anita L. Mason of Weldon; two grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob A. Lott of Racine, Wis., and John W. Lott Sr. of Enterprize, Mass.; and one sister, Mary Alice McLain of Racine, Mich.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Shiloh Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Ratliff. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens.
The body will lie in state one hour before the services at the church.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service and other times at 1150 E. Montgomery St.
Floral bearers will be the Sunday school teachers of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be trustees, deacons and the Laymen’s League of the church.

Emma ‘Dossie’ Lyon

CREEDMOOR -- Emma “Dossie” Lyon, 83, of 319 East Lyon St. died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by Minister Barbara Morton. Burial will be in the Creedmoor cemetery.
Surviving are one brother, Willie Lyon Jr. of Baltimore, and one foster sister, Annie Allen of Creedmoor.
The family will receive friends from 8 to 9 tonight at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Oxford.

Hazel W. McWilliams

HENDERSON -- Hazel Woodlief McWilliams, 82, formerly of 260 Chavasse Ave., Henderson, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Durham Regional Medical Center. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Romie Clair “R.C.” and Irma Shearin Woodlief. She was the widow of William McWilliams.
She was a homemaker and a member of White Memorial United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Flowers Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are three sisters, Margaret W. Edwards of Greensboro, Edith W. Finnegan of Portsmouth, Va., and Jean Woodlief of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday at Flowers Funeral Home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Woodlief, Wayne Woodlief, Gerry Woodlief, Richard Woodlief, Anthony D. Reese, Michael J. Reese, William Fort, Brantley Edwards, Tommy Edwards, Keith McSwain and Wayne Aiken.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to White Memorial United Methodist Church, c/o Phyllis Grissom, 1008 Shirley Drive, Henderson, N.C. 27536.

Lura Mitchell

CREEDMOOR -- Lura Mitchell, 92, of 103 North Allen St. died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Durham Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Rock Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Samuel Corbett. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Eula M. Webb; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford. The family will receive visitors at the residence.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Oxford.

Iris Duke Mock

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Mrs. Iris Duke Mock, 79, departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 31, 2001, after a long illness.
Mrs. Iris was born in Henderson, N.C., on July 22, 1921, to the late Claude T. Duke and Ida Johnson Duke. She attended Henderson High School, where she graduated in 1939. She married on December 20, 1945, to then S/Sgt. Jesse D. Mock, U.S. Army. The two made their first home in occupied Berlin, Germany, following World War II and returned to the U.S. in 1948. Assignments for Iris and Jesse followed in Georgia, South Carolina, Germany, North Carolina, Mississippi, and concluded in Florence in 1960, where they made their final home. They have been members of Greenwood Baptist Church since making Florence their home.
Mrs. Iris was a wonderfully loving, witty and singularly gracious lady whose life deeply impressed and inspired everyone who knew her. She loved books, music, gardening and the Lord and passed that love on throughout her family and friends. She was an exceptionally wise lady whose judgment and counsel were precious. Although her earthly presence will be sorely missed, she lives forever in the immeasurable effect she has had on so many.
She is survived by her three children, Corliss Mock Bowman and her husband, C.W. (Pete) Bowman II, of Lake City, David C. Mock of Newport News, Va., and Phillip C. Mock and his wife, Betty, of Forsyth, Ga.; five grandchildren, Will and Gavin Bowman, Damon Mock, and Kyle and Chris Mock; a great-granddaughter, Bella Johnson of North Port, Ala.; a brother, George Duke of Wilson, N.C., and a sister, Elizabeth Capell of Henderson, N.C.; and a rich abundance of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Greenwood Baptist Church by her pastor and friend, the Reverend Mike Gay, with entombment in Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001.
Memorials may be made to Greenwood Baptist Church, 2401 Claussen Road, Florence, S.C. 29505; or Hospice of the Pee Dee, Hospice House, 555 E. Cheves Street, Florence, S.C. 29506.

Susie B.H. Terry

HENDERSON -- Susie Belle Holloway Terry, 81, of the Guardian Care Nursing Facility died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Julia Holloway and Phil Henderson. She was the widow of Robert Olin Terry.
She was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ, where the funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. John Durham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Terry, Queen Terry and Naomi Mitchell, all of Henderson; five sons, Charlie Terry, James Terry, Daniel Terry, Moses Terry and Samuel Terry, all of Henderson; one sister, Sallie V. Terry of Townsville; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Garnes Funeral Chapel and all other times at the home, 1418 Deer Crossing Court, Henderson.
Pallbearers will be Larry Williams, Patrick Henderson, Larry Terry, Moses Terry, Jerry Small, Robert Mitchell, Tyrone Terry, Edward Small and Dennis Allen.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Willie C. Adcock

HENDERSON -- Willie Calvin Adcock, 72, of 822 Nelson St., Henderson, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at his home. He was a native of Mecklenburg County, Va., and the son of the late Otha David and Mary Hester Adcock. He was the widower of Doris Owens Adcock.
He was a retired maintenance supervisor with Harriet & Henderson Yarns Inc. and a veteran of the United States Army. An active member of Calvary Baptist Church, he sang in the church choir, was a former deacon and had held several other church offices over the years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Wood, Dr. Rod Bell, and the Rev. Jesse Matthews. Burial will follow in Stovall cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Wanda A. Riggan of Henderson; two sons, Willie E. Adcock of Henderson and Robert C. Adcock of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Hallie A. Saunders of Henderson, Ann A. Hite of Oxford, Gladys A. Morris of Berea and Linda A. Hobson of Tuscalusa, Ala.; a brother, Winston C. Adcock of Stovall; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ed Stamper, Ricky Etheridge, Ray Branch, Mike Catlett, David Saunders, Milton Saunders, Brent Saunders, Charles Ayscue and Billy Lovings. The Adult Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.
