Ruben E. Daniels

HENDERSON -- Ruben Edward Daniels, 78, of 3025 N.C. 39 North died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Durham County native and the son of the late William Thomas and Hattie Trice Daniels.
He was educated in the Durham County public schools. He joined the U.S. Army and later the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired after 22 years of service. He was an employee of Murdock Center for more than 20 years. He was an active member of Beacon Light Masonic Lodge No. 249, Henderson Consistory No. 195, Imran Temple No. 168 and Kesler Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was chairman of the trustee board, chairman of the steward board and special projects manager of the Layman’s League.
Funeral services will be conduced at noon Friday at Kesler Temple A.M.E. Zion Church by the Rev. Nathaniel Mitchell. Burial will be Monday in the Raleigh National Veterans cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Connie Johnson Daniel; one son, Terry Daniels of Goldsboro; five stepchildren, Angela Squires, Ronald Johnson and Kelvin Johnson, all of Maryland, Cynthia Solomon of Henderson, and Terrance Johnson of Durham; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services and other times at the residence.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services.

Georgianna Fields

HENDERSON -- Georgianna Fields of Warren County died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Alexander Greenlee

WARRENTON -- Alexander Greenlee died Monday, May 28, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Durham.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at R.H. Greene Funeral Home Chapel in Warrenton.
Surviving are two brothers, Vernell of Norlina and Freddie of Knoxville, Tenn.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Mary B. Butler

HENDERSON -- Mary Lee Brame Butler, 92, formerly of 541 S. Cooper Drive, Henderson, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in a local nursing home.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Latt and Loretta Fulcher Brame. She was the widow of Edward Butler.
Mrs. Butler was a retired sales clerk with the former Leggett’s Department Store. She was a charter member of West Hills Presbyterian Church and the Bible Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at West Hills Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Addington. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are a sister, Flora B. Barnes of Henderson; three nieces, Gayle B. Stanton and Darlene Barnes, both of Henderson, and Pam B. Bullis of Dagsboro, Delaware; a nephew, Eddie Brame of Henderson; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Flora Barnes, 170 S. Lynnbank Road, Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Eddie Brame, Dean Peoples, David Stanton, Dan Daniel, Daniel Griswold, Dr. Wilson Hoyle Jr., Tem Blackburn, Dave Carver, Ray Meeks, Paul Ross, Joe Tyson and Steve Moss.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to West Hills Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1435, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Charles Dees

OXFORD -- Charles Dees of 401 Granville St. died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Granville Medical Center.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Elijah Hargrove Jr.

WARRENTON -- Elijah Hargrove Jr., 63, of the Bronx, N.Y., formerly of Warren County, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Our Ladies of Mercy Hospital in New York.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burchette Chapel United Church of Christ in Manson. The Rev. Charlie Leath, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Hargrove of the Bronx; two sons, Brian Tyrone Hargrove of Warrenton and Darryl Mallett Hargrove of Warrenton; three stepdaughters, Brenda Alvarez, Sharon Williams and Kim Patterson, all of the Bronx; his mother, Addie H. Hargrove of Norlina; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one sister, Mildred Terry of Norlina; one brother, Richard “Tony” Hargrove of Yonkers, N.Y.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel until taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Pearl W. Littleton

HENDERSON -- Pearl Wilkins Littleton, 82, of 880 Coble Blvd., Apartment 15, Henderson, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Warren Hills Nursing Home in Warrenton. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Henry and Ella Cannady Wilkins.
She was a homemaker and a member of City Road United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at City Road United Methodist Church by the Rev. Danielle Kirkland. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Wardell May Littleton; a daughter, Patsy L. Jones of Charleston, S.C.; a son, Walter Earl Littleton of Meridian, Miss.; a sister, Eunice W. Anstead of Henderson; two brothers, Otha Wilkins and Floyd Wilkins, both of Henderson; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jimmy Adams, Howard Hughes, Charles Chewning, Ray Wilkins, Art Hughes and Donald Ray Matthews.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Ruby Wortham

OXFORD -- Ruby Wortham, 83, of 1009-A Roxboro Road died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Granville County native.
She was a member of New Light Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. W.T. Ramey III. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Bobbitt, and one son, Cleveland Wortham, both of Oxford; two sisters, Alene Rogers and Louise Wyche, both of Oxford; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday at Wright Funeral Home Chapel one hour before the funeral and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Bobbitt, 1009-D Roxboro Road.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Elizabeth M. Wynne

FRANKLINTON -- Elizabeth Mayo Wynne, 77, a resident of 7544 Highway 56, Franklinton, died Wednesday night, June 6, 2001, at Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg. She was a native of Guilford County and was the daughter of the late W.C. and Ella Powell Mayo.
She was a graduate of Meredith College and was a retired accounting clerk at Franklin Regional Medical Center. She also was a member of the Louisburg Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens on Highway 561 in Louisburg by the Rev. Mike Underwood.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Weldon Wynne; two sons, Terry Moore and Tim Moore, both of Louisburg; one stepdaughter, Myra Wood of Louisburg; three stepsons, Mike Wynne of Richmond, Va., and David Wynne and Brooks Wynne, both of Louisburg; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home at 7544 Highway 56, Franklinton.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the North Carolina Diabetes. Association, 2315-A Sunset Ave., Rocky Mount, N.C. 27804, or to the Louisburg Rescue Squad, 121 Davis St., Louisburg, N.C. 27549.

Ernest C. Cooper

STEM -- Ernest Cornelius Cooper, 63, of 4131 Pigeon Drive died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at his residence. He was the son of the late Willie Cooper and Lula Mae Walter Cooper.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Lennis C. Thorpe. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Jacqueline Cooper of Henderson and Sandra Cooper, Queen Cooper and Joyce Nelson, all of Oxford; three sons, Larry Cooper, Terry Cooper and Steven Cooper, all of Oxford; seven sisters, Mary Willie Allen and Catherine Harris, both of Pottstown, Pa., Evelyn Parker of Durham, Abell Jones of Butner, and Edna Hunt and Ora Mae Thorpe, both of Stem; two brothers, Odell Cooper of Pottstown and John Rubin Cooper of Stem; 24 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home and other times at 2515 Bodie-Currin Road.

Mariana H. Dickey

OXFORD -- Mariana Hawkins Dickey of 3199 Webb School Road died Friday, June 8, 2001, at her residence.

Georgianna Fields

HENDERSON -- Georgianna Fields, 86, a resident of the Floyd B. McKissick Assisted Living Center, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was the daughter of the late George Jenkins and Arianna Hester Jenkins.
She was a member of Manson Baptist Church and was a retired employee of J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Manson Baptist Church by the Rev. Cranford Davis. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Ida H. Sims of Detroit; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Phyllis M. Johnson

GOLDSBORO -- Phyllis Marie Johnson, 18, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. She was a native of Queens, N.Y., and the daughter of Marianne Demato Johnson and the late Harlee Johnson.
She was a resident of Howell Children’s Convalescent Center for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Rowland Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Clarence Dale. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her mother, Marianne Johnson-Washington of Henderson; her stepfather, Ronald Washington of Henderson; three sisters, Melissa Johnson and Nannie Johnson, both of Henderson, and Carrie Daniel of the Williamsboro community; four brothers, Steven Johnson and Harlee Johnson Jr., both of Henderson, Eric Johnson of Bunn and Phillip Johnson of Queens; and her maternal grandmother, Philomena Demato of Lake Grove, N.Y.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Marianne Johnson-Washington, 105 Pete Abbott Lane.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services.

Gordon H. Limer

WARRENTON -- Mr. Gordon Henry Limer, age 82, died Friday, June 8, 2001, in Rocky Mount, N.C.
Mr. Limer was a retired farmer, a very active member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, owner and operator of the Farmers Tobacco Warehouse in Warrenton, N.C., former member of the Ruritan Club, the Warren General Hospital Board, the local Board of First Citizens Bank, and the Fire Dept.
Funeral services will be held at Sulphur Springs Baptist on Sunday (June 10) at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Tinny Parrish. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton, N.C., today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mr. Limer is survived by his wife, Mrs. Macie B. Limer; one son, Gary G. Limer and his wife, Cathy; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel L. Carter and Mrs. Belle L. Burgess, both of Warrenton, N.C.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Justice Morgan

WARRENTON -- Justice Morgan of the Wise community died Friday, June 8, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.

Ruby A. Wortham

OXFORD -- Ruby Anderson Wortham, 83, of 1009-A Roxboro Road died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Alf Anderson and Artelia Taborn Anderson.
She was a member of New Light Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Chapel by the Rev. W.T. Ramey III. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara W. Bobbitt of Oxford; one son, Cleveland “Peter Rabbit” Wortham of the home; two sisters, Ailene A. Rogers and Mary Louise A. Wyche, both of Oxford; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Oxford.

Mariana H. Dickey

OXFORD -- Mariana Hawkins Dickey, 62, of 3199 Webb School Road died Friday, June 8, 2001, at her residence.
She was a graduate of Mary Potter Academy and a member of Timothy Darling Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Timothy Darling Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are three sons, Stewart Dickey, Michael Dickey and Byron Dickey, all of Oxford; one daughter, Tracey Dickey of Oxford; one sister, Lizzie Rogers of Cincinnati; two brothers, Charles Hawkins of Michigan and Franklin Hawkins of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Benjamin ‘David’ Haithcock

HENDERSON -- Benjamin “David” Haithcock, age 67, a resident of 423 Harriett Street, died Saturday at Duke Medical Center. He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Ardis “A. B.” Benjamin and Lois Roberson Haithcock. He was a retired Security Guard at Maria Parham Hospital and a member of the Second Baptist Church and the Men’s Baracca Class.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Abbott Haithcock of the home; one daughter, Debbie Robinson and husband Marty of Henderson; one son, Russell Haithcock and wife Theresa of Henderson; one sister, Janice H. Strange of Henderson; and three grandchildren, April Haithcock, Jennifer Bradsher and Justin Bradsher.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Russell and Theresa Haithcock at 145 S. Strafford Drive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Lou Pearce, W.H. Parrish Jr., Marvin “Pete” Dickerson, Steve Humphries, Ray Rainey, Joe Tart, Doug Roberson and Tommy Wilder.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Herbert E. Ranes

HENDERSON -- Herbert Etheridge Ranes, age 80, a resident of Gay Street, died Friday at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Leffie and Lillian Mitchell Ranes and was the widower of the late Frances Roberson Ranes. He was an employee of Perry Glass, where he had worked for the past fifty-five years. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving during WWII, and was a member of the Second Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Second Baptist Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty R. Elliott and husband Lawrence, Janet R. Ross and husband Marvin, and Kathy R. Newcomb, all of Henderson; one son, Wayne Ranes and wife Sarah of Henderson; two sisters, Irene Abbott and Jean Hobgood, both of Henderson; six grandchildren, Tony Ranes, Scott Ranes, Stephanie Grissom, Melonie Hight, Kevin Newcomb and Patrick Newcomb; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Ranes, Kristen Lewis, Amanda Weaver, Trey Grissom, Anna Beth Grissom, Wesley Hight and Seth Hight. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Ranes.
Pallbearers will be Steve Hughes, W.H. Parrish, Charlie Edwards, Lou Pearce, Tom Duke, Woodrow Stallings, Richard Davis Jr., Wayne Pendergrass and Steve Perkins.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Marvin and Janet Ross, 584 Vicksboro Rd.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Roy C. Boyd

CREEDMOOR -- Roy Clinton Boyd, 56, of 1671 Hwy. 15 South, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at his home. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Clarence T. and Nannie Miller Boyd.
He was a member of Stovall Baptist Church and was employed by Kayser-Roth Mfg. Co.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Revs. Dan Hill and Willis Herman. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are a daughter, Kim Boyd Wheeler of Creedmoor; four sisters, Christine B. Tillotson of Clarksville, Va., Elizabeth B. Price of Hampton, Va., Jo Ann B. Hughes and Shirley B. Hale, both of Butner; a brother, Jerry W. Boyd of Durham; and three grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.
