Doris F. Ayscue
HENDERSON -- Doris Faulkner Ayscue, age 84, a resident of Raleigh and a former resident of the Aycock community, died Friday at Wake Medical Center. She was a native of Vance County, the daughter of the late Howard Vernon Faulkner Sr. and Bessie Faulkner Faulkner, and widow of C.F. “Tom” Ayscue Sr. She was a member of the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and a former Sunday school teacher, choir member and G.A. teacher.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Burgess and the Rev. Rick Clayton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Fay A. Clayton and husband Butch of Henderson Teresa A. Brown and husband Daryl of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, C.F. Ayscue Jr. of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Jackie C. Baynes and husband Timmy, Julie Clayton, Whitney Brown and Rhonda Ayscue; one sister, Maria Faulkner of Henderson; four brothers, Allison Faulkner, H.V. Faulkner Jr., Cecil Faulkner and Jerry Faulkner, all of Henderson.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of Fay and Butch Clayton at 1609 Peace Street. Serving as active pallbearers will be her nephews.

Michael W. Edwards
HENDERSON -- Michael Wellons Edwards, 44, of 1241 Jacksontown Road died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of Hallie Lassiter Edwards of Henderson and the late Willard Thomas Edwards. He was a self-employed mechanic.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Eddie Nutt. Burial will follow in the Middleburg cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Brenda Worley Edwards; a daughter, Christy Michelle Edwards of Creedmoor; two sons, Christopher Jordan Edwards of the home and Michael Eric Leonard of Durham; a stepson, Toby Leonard of Henderson; two sisters, Lisa E. Cooper and Susan F. Edwards, both of Henderson; and three grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they are at the home of his mother, Hallie Edwards, 1261 Jacksontown Road, Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Larry Moody, Wayne Moody, Randy Wynne, Darrell Wynne, Bobby Cole, Billy Fleming, Martin Harper and Kenneth “Buck” Goss.

Mary Nicholson
HENDERSON -- Mary Eliza Hargrove Nicholson, 88, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Evergreen Nursing Center in Greensboro. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Jim Mike Hargrove and Francis Kersey Hargrove and the widow of Joseph Zack Nicholson.
She was educated in the public schools of Mecklenburg County, Va., and Franklin County.
At an early age, she joined and remained a faithful member of St. Andrews United Church of Christ, holding leadership positions in the Missionary Circle, senior choir and church program committee and serving as a mother of the church. She also performed as a soloist throughout the community.
She was retired from J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrews U.C.C. by the Rev. C. Jerome Taylor. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the services.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service and other times at 203 W. Andrews Ave.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Ann Brame of Greensboro; five sons, Eugene Nicholson of Tamarac, Fla., and Elijah Nicholson, Billy Nicholson, Bobby Nicholson and Hiawatha Nicholson, all of Henderson; one sister, June H. Patillo of Henderson; 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Floral bearers will be the Missionary Circle and ladies of St. Andrews Church. Pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of St. Andrews Church.

William Hood “Bill” Parham
GREENSBORO -- William Hood “Bill” Parham, 78, of 1004 Twychenham Drive died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital following surgery for a ruptured aneurysm.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2001, at Hanes-Lineberry, North Elm Street Chapel. Burial to follow at 3 p.m. in Elmwood cemetery, Henderson, N.C.
Mr. Parham, son of Dr. and Mrs. Albert Hood Parham of Henderson, grew up in Washington, D.C., Henderson and Oxford, N.C. He had lived in Greensboro since 1959. Mr. Parham worked for several printing companies in the area, including Mickey Printing in High Point and Fisher-Harrison in Greensboro.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Elynor Crumpler Parham; daughters, Margaret Parham Ramsey and husband Vaughn Ramsey of Greensboro and Jane Parham Tuttle and husband Steven Tuttle of Irmo, S.C.; son, Charles Albert Parham of Greensboro; brother, Robert S. Parham and wife Sue B. Parham of Richmond, Va.; stepsons, Joseph Thomas Crumpler of High Point and Mark Stanard Crumpler and wife Lit of Blowing Rock, N.C.; three grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.
Mr. Parham was preceded in death by his first wife, Dora Page S. Parham, who died in 1972.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Parham’s family would like to thank his doctors and the staff of Cone’s surgical intensive care unit for their many kindnesses during this difficult time.
John S. Richardson
OXFORD -- John Sidney Richardson, 85, of 117 Eighth St. died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Treyburn Rehabilitation Center. He was a native of Claremont, N.H., and the son of the late Charles and Dorothy Grace Osgood. He was preceded by wife Kathryn Mae Johnston Richardson in 1960 and wife Marion Phoebe Mills Richardson in 1997.
He graduated from Stevens High School in Claremont, N.H., in 1933, served in the 20th Bomber Command, U.S. Army Air Corps, during World War II and graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston in 1949. He had a dance band in the 1940s, taught high school choir, band and orchestra from 1949 to 1951, retired from McGill Manufacturing in Valparaiso, Ind., taught string bass and played in the orchestra at Valparaiso University, as well as performing in local jazz groups. He was a 50-year member of the Masons and retired to Durham in the mid-1980s.
Memorial services will be held at a later time in Butner.
Surviving are a daughter, Marsha Hamacher of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; two sisters, Edith Greenwood of Claremont, N.H., and Elinor Morin of Berlin, N.H.; a brother, Joseph C. Richardson of Lancaster, N.H.; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Butner Presbyterian Church Organ Fund or Music Department, 310 16th St., Butner, N.C. 27509, or to the Claremont Historical Society in Claremont, N.H.

Mrs. Christine ‘Teeny’ Chance
HENDERSON -- Mrs. Christine “Teeny” Chance, 76, resident of Townsville, died Saturday. Mrs. Chance was born in Durham and lived on Glen Rd. until 1993, at which time she moved to Kerr Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee A. Chance on July 5, 1977. Mrs. Chance was the daughter of the late Ernest Roberts and Nannie Mangum Roberts of Durham County. She worked at American Tobacco Company for 35 years before retiring in 1983.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Farrell and Buck of Durham, and Faye Bradley and Earl of Henderson; two brothers, Jake Roberts and Faye of Bahama, and Ernest Felton Roberts of Apex; and three nieces and seven nephews.
Funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Clements Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sam Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family received friends Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tungsten Baptist Church, P.O. Box 703, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Lottie P. Collier
HENDERSON -- Lottie Pegram Collier, 57, of 54 Dickie Drive, Henderson, in the Epsom community, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late William Elmus and Lucy Harris Pegram.
She was a retired quality control inspector with Americal Inc., and a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cokesbury United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Rocheleau. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, David Charles Collier Sr.; a daughter, Cindy C. Rush of Oxford; four sons, David Charles “Capt. Dave” Collier Jr., Anthony W. “Tony” Collier, Kevin L. Collier and Michael S. “Cotton” Collier, all of Henderson; three sisters, Mary P. Abbott and Peggy M. Pegram, both of Henderson, and Rose P. Floyd of Durham; four brothers, William H. Pegram, G. Wheeler Pegram, Elmus Gray Pegram and Jerry W. Pegram, all of Henderson; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel P. Abbott.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.

Frank P. Fox
OXFORD -- Frank Powell Fox, 80, of 400 Forest Road, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Benjamin F. and Lucy Alston Fox.
He was a graduate of Townsville High School and attended Brevard College. In the late 1930’s, he moved to Oxford and joined the Army Air Corps and served in the 15th Air Force in the European theater during World War II. In February of 1944, he was shot down over Regensburg, Germany, and was held as a prisoner of war until liberated in late April 1945.
He was a member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church and, until his retirement, was an insurance agent for the Harris Insurance Agency in Oxford.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Oxford Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Graham McChesney. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery with military honors.
Surviving are his daughter, Corinne Cannady Fox of Durham; his son, F. Powell Fox Jr. of Oxford; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Currin Fox.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oxford Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 652, Oxford, N.C. 27565.

Thomas A. Moore
HENDERSON -- Thomas Avent Moore, age 65, a resident of 678 Roanoke Avenue, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
He was a native of Franklin County and was the son of Annie Terrell Moore Strickland of Henderson and the late Kenneth Gill Moore. He was a retired tobacco farmer and was an active member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Franklin County where he was a trustee and member of the Administrative Board.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sidney E. Stafford. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Rencher G. Moore and wife, Ruth, of Henderson; and one nephew, Michael K. Moore.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Verona R. and James Avent Terrell; and his paternal grandparents, Ida Stanton and Thomas Frederick Davis Moore.
The family will receive friends at the home at 678 Roanoke Ave.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Odell Hedgepeth, William Strother, Wayne Johnson, Randy Terrell, Ben Harris, Joel Harris, and Robert Brantley.

Bettie D. Ramsey
OXFORD -- Bettie Dixon Ramsey, 93, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Friday, June 22, 2001, at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late John and Alice Dixon. She was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from Burlington Mills.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Dr. Greg Lawson. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are three stepsons, Washington Ramsey, Weldon Ramsey and Herbert Ramsey, all of Virginia; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter; and two great-great-grandsons.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.

Ecclesiastes Brandon Sr.
OXFORD — Ecclesiastes Brandon Sr., 75, of the Oxford Manor nursing facility died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. He was a native of Vance County and the son of the late Pete and Emma Brandon Miles.
He was educated in the Vance County Schools and was employed with the Vance Hotel, J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co. and the city of Henderson.
He was the widower of Lettie M. Brandon.
He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where the funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday by Dr. J.H. Bryant. Burial will follow in Blacknall cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Rheba Hanks of Henderson; one son, Ricardo Brandon of Henderson; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Myrtle Terry, Roann Venable and Louise Hargrove; and one brother, Thurston Miles.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Garnes Funeral Chapel and all other times at the home of Ricardo Brandon, 234 Keene St.
Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be friends of the family. Floral bearers will be nieces. Honorary floral bearers will be friends of the family.

Lucile B. Floyd
HENDERSON — Lucile Breedlove Floyd, 98, a former resident of Dabney Drive, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late William C. and Rodella Hall Breedlove and was the widow of Stephen Clifton Floyd.
She was a homemaker and was the oldest living member of West End Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Elmwood cemetery by the Rev. L. Yates.
She is survived by one daughter, Dell Floyd Critcher of Roanoke, Va.; four sons, Stephen C. Floyd II of Newberry, S.C., William T. “Billy” Floyd of Henderson, Eugene F. Floyd of Durham and Ben M. Floyd of Oxford; three sisters, Mary Louise Cash of Oxford, Beth Vaughan of Henderson and Naomi Clayton of Kittrell; one brother, Doug Breedlove of Oxford; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Arnold “Bobby” Floyd.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Ben M. Floyd, 507 Williamsboro St., Oxford.

OXFORD — William Thomas Gregory, 57, of 713 Raleigh St. died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at his home. He was the son of Beatrice Blalock Gregory and the late Arthur Gregory.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Ruth Gregory; one daughter, Shelia B. Thornton of Oxford; three stepdaughters, Teresa Waldon, Ruthamae Waldon and Lee Ruth Waldon, all of Sandersonville, Ga.; three stepsons, Thomas Waldon, Jimmie Grooms and Larry Grooms, all of Sandersonville; his mother, Beatrice Daye of Oxford; one sister, Dorothy Harrison of Oxford; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Betts & Son Funeral Chapel by the Rev. J. Phillip Betts. Burial will follow in the Mount Spring Church cemetery.

Charlie L. Keeter Jr.
HENDERSON — Charlie Lee Keeter Jr., 61, a resident of 6435 U.S. 158 Business, died
Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Triangle Hospice at the Meadowlands in Hillsborough. He was a native of Warren County and was the son of Erma Wall Keeter of Cary and the late Charlie Lee Keeter Sr. He was a retired salesman for Tilton Equipment Co.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Richard A. Walker. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Eva Spencer Keeter of the home; one daughter, Catherine Ann K. Ayscue of Kittrell; two sons, Charlie Lee Keeter III and Terry Lynn Keeter, both of Henderson; one sister, Sally K. Puckett of Cary; one brother, Emery Lewis Keeter of Wise; and four grandchildren.

OXFORD — Mary Elizabeth Morton, 80, of 6010 Horner Siding Road died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Brantwood Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by Bishop Clinton Winston.
Surviving are one sister, Dorothy Bailey of San Antonio, and one brother, William M. Morton of Durham.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home. The family received visitors at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. David Morton, 3699 Salem Road.

Maurice “Moe” Palmer
WARRENTON — Maurice “Moe” Palmer, 40, of Warrenton died Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Coley Springs Baptist Church in Warrenton by Elder Robert Terry. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his parents, Osborne and Cornelia Seward Palmer of Norlina; three sisters, Faydrea D. Palmer of Henderson, Carla Y. Palmer of Middleburg and Donna Farley of Flint, Mich.; one brother, James O. Palmer of Norlina; and his grandmother, Carrie Palmer of Warrenton.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton until taken to the church one hour before the services Friday.
