Laura Reid-Braithwaite

NEWARK, N.J. -- Laura Reid-Braithwaite, 74, died in Newark, N.J. She was a native of Henderson and the daughter of the late Wade and Betsy Reid.
She attended Vance County Public Schools and did further study becoming a registered nurse. She was a member of St. James Baptist Church where she became a minister at the age of 17 and an organist. She moved to New Jersey in 1967, continued her ministry and served as an organist.
Surviving are her husband, the Rev. James G. Braithwaite; three daughters, Diane Boone-Sinclair, Percilla Paige and Shirley Bass; two sons, Grady Reid of New Jersey and Fred Roberson of Henderson; one sister, Aline Mayfield; one brother, Melvin Reid; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Phillips Metropolitan C.M.E. Church in Newark, N.J., by the Rev. Marshall Jennifer. Interment followed in Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth, N.J.
Local arrangements were by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Mollie W. Jackson

HENDERSON -- Mollie West Jackson, 89, of 805 Stanley St., Henderson, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at her home. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Joe and Mollie W. West. She was the widow of William Octavius Jackson.
She was retired from Maria Parham Hospital, where she was a nurse’s aid. She was a member of Westwood Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Adult Bible Class.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westwood Pentecostal Holiness Church by Pastor Steve Jones. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are six sons, William A. Jackson of Elephant Butte, N.M., Claude T. Jackson and Bobby P. Jackson, both of Henderson, Joe W. Jackson of Louisburg, Willard O. Jackson of Goshen, Ind., and David T. Jackson of San Felipe, N.M.; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Reba J. Stanley, and a son, Henry C. Jackson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Her sons will serve as active pallbearers and her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Westwood Pentecostal Holiness Church, Building Fund, c/o Bill Lloyd, 1023 S. Chestnut St., Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.

Ellen Jameson

FAYETTEVILLE -- Ellen Hubbard Hyman Jameson, 75, of 2515 Ft. Bragg Road, Fayetteville, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and The Gleaners Sunday School Class, was a retired secretary with the Dillon Tire Service and was a graduate of Laurinburg High School.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church by the Revs. A. Edward Beddingfield and Wayne Ham. Burial will be at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, 201 Anderson St., Fayetteville, N.C. 28301 or Boys & Girls Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450.
Surviving are one daughter, Jeanene Clopton of Henderson; one son, A. David Tyre of Raleigh; two sisters, Dorothy Carroll of Hamlet and Betty Long of Roxboro; and two brothers, J.L. Hubbard Jr. and J.T. Hubbard Sr., both of Dillon, S.C.
Arrangements are by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Michael L. Jones

HENDERSON -- Michael Lamont Jones, 24, of #6 Ranes Drive, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Betts & Son Chapel by the Rev. C.J. Dale. Burial will follow in the New Light Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Telecia S. Jones; four sons, Michael L. Jones Jr., Revon D. Jones, Ileg N. Jones and Jalon D. Jones; one daughter, Zhykirah L. Alston; three sisters, Ella Spencer, Cherish Gillis and Sherric Harris, all of Oxford; four brothers, Leon Harris, Michael Harris, Vann Shelton Umstead, all of Oxford, and Anthony Jones; maternal grandmother, Marie Jones; and paternal grandmother, Josephine Cole.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home of Oxford.

Sidney L. Roberson

HENDERSON -- Sidney Lee Roberson, 70, of 723 Fairway Drive East, Sunset Beach, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington.
Arrangements will be announced later by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.

William C. Thorpe

OXFORD -- William C. Thorpe, 53, of 6683 Avis Brooks Road, Oxford, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc.

Mary E.H. Wimbush

HENDERSON -- Mary Eliza Henderson Wimbush, 97, died Monday, July 2, 2001, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was a native of Vance County.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Louise Bullock Nelson, 349 Steward Road.
Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Robert Davis

NORLINA -- Robert Davis, 88, formerly of Norlina, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Coley Springs Baptist Church in Afton by the Rev. Carson Jones, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sisters, Carrie Bell Rose of Warrenton and Cleo Williams of Baltimore, and two brothers, Frank and John Davis, both of Warrenton.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

James T. Guill

HENDERSON -- James Thomas “Butterbean” Guill, 65, of 5656 Hicksboro Road died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by J.M. White Funeral Home.

Emma Hargrove

TOWNSVILLE -- Emma Hargrove of 930 Hibernia Mill Road died Monday, July 2, 2001, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Alvin Harris

LOUISBURG -- Alvin Harris, 80, of 3600 Burnette Road died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Franklin Regional Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Lawrence K. Kincaid

BUTNER -- Lawrence K. “Larry” Kincaid, 75, of 604 19th St. died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Durham Regional Hospital. He was a native of Anne Arundel County, Md., and the son of the late Leo Franklin and Florence Bloom Kincaid.
He was an avid golfer and member of the Triangle Seniors Golf Association and the Durham Organization of Golfing Seniors (DOGS) until his health prevented him from playing. In 1989, he was president of the Triangle Seniors and a charter member of the South Granville Exchange Club, having served as president twice and been honored twice as the Exchangite of the Year.
During his years of employment at Murdoch Center, he coordinated the annual Farm Day Event from 1977 to 1980. Former Gov. James Hunt presented him with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 1983 for his service to the state of North Carolina.
After retirement, he coordinated the Butner Christmas Parade for 18 years. This past May, he coordinated the first Memorial Day service in Butner. He made speeches to the public schools, teaching students about the flag, the Pledge of Allegiance and the proper presentation of the flag.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Community United Methodist Church in Butner by the Revs. James McSwain and Cecil Green. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Glover Kincaid; a daughter, Lynn Kincaid of Butner; a son, Mike L. Kincaid of Butner; and two grandchildren.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to the Community United Methodist Church, 507 W. E St., Butner, N.C. 27509.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the South Granville Exchange Club, Triangle Seniors Golf Association and the Durham Organization of Golfing Seniors.

Fannie P. Pearson

HENDERSON -- Fannie Plummer Pearson, 71, of 210 Booth Ave. died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Elizabeth L. Perkinson

HENDERSON -- Mary Elizabeth Lassiter Perkinson, 79, of 1791 N.C. 39 South died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at her home.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home at 1791 N.C. 39 South.
Other arrangements will be announced by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Bettie S. Reavis

HENDERSON -- Bettie Smithwick Reavis, 69, of 135 Booth Ave. died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Services.

Sidney L. Roberson

HENDERSON -- Sidney Lee Roberson, 70, of 723 Fairway Drive East, Sunset Beach, N.C., died Sunday, July 1, 2001, in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center in Wilmington, N.C.
Born in Vance County, he was the son of Matthew Green Roberson of Henderson and the late Annie Belle Hock Roberson.
Mr. Roberson was retired from the N.C. Vocational Center in Greenville as an evaluator. He was currently employed as a starter and ranger with Sea Trail Plantation. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, at 3 p.m., in Sunset Gardens, conducted by Dr. Richard A. Walker.
Surviving, in addition to his father, are his stepmother, Marguerite C. Roberson; his wife, Gail Gaskins Roberson; two daughters, Libby R. Williams and husband L.A. of Greenville, N.C., and Tracey L. Mulkey of Sunset Beach; a son, Michael L. Roberson of Chantilly, West Virginia; a sister, Sylvia R. Edwards and husband James of Henderson; and four grandchildren, Chris, Keli, Lauren and Layne.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of James and Sylvia Edwards, 1618 Lynne Avenue, Henderson.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physicians’ Drive, Wilmington, N.C. 28401.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the local funeral arrangements.

Hal A. White Sr.

WISE -- Hal Adams White Sr., 86, of Wise died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was born in Warren County to the late Thomas Henry White and Eula F. White. Mr. White was a farmer and a member of the Wise Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Edith Frazier White; two sisters, Mabel White Harris and Ava White Perkinson; and three brothers, M.S. “Dick” White, Thomas Allen White and Gideon Macon White.
The family will receive friends at Blaylock Funeral Home Wednesday, July 4, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Yates and the Rev. Kenneth Bunch on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Wise Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Wise cemetery.
Mr. White is survived by two sons, Hal A. White Jr. and wife Shirley H. White of Wise and Travis G. White and wife Sandra C. White of Warrenton; five grandchildren, Debra White King and husband Woody King of Norlina, Ashley W. White and wife Margaret R. White of Norlina, Stuart H. White and wife Virginia S. White of Norlina, Michelle W. Tielking and husband Tim Tielking of Norlina, and Christopher T. White and wife Sallie D. White of Warrenton; and seven great-grandchildren, Adam, Matthew and Elizabeth White of Warrenton, Christopher and Hamilton King of Norlina, and Joshua and Alexa Tielking of Norlina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Wise Baptist Church, c/o Helen H. Harris, Rt. 1 Box 45-B, Norlina, N.C. 27563.

Mary E.H. Wimbush

VANCE COUNTY -- Mary Eliza Henderson Wimbush, 97, a native of Vance County, died Monday, July 2, 2001, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late James and Lizzie Faines Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Oak Level United Church of Christ by the Rev. Leon White. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Louise W. Bullock-Nelson of Henderson; one sister, Elizabeth Hargrove of Townsville; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services and other times at the home of Louise Bullock-Nelson, 349 Steward Road.
The body will be on view at the church one hour before the service.
Pallbearers will be John Neal Sr., Kenney Terry, John Neal Jr., Willie B. Hargrove, Leon Hargrove and Vernon Hargrove.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services.

James Thomas Guill

OXFORD -- James Thomas “Butterbean” Guill, age 65, a resident of 5656 Hicksboro Road, Oxford, died Tuesday afternoon at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Vance Co. and was the son of the late Charlie Henry and Mattie Williamson Guill. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was a self-employed carpenter.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Yount. Burial will follow in the Guill-Overby Family cemetery on the
Hicksboro Road.
He is survived by his wife, Sherby Pendergrass Guill of the home; one daughter, Crystal Dawn Guill of the home; one son, James Thomas Guill Jr. and wife Kelly of Oxford; two sisters, Annie Lee Jones of Epsom and Blanche Overby of Oxford.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White
Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Parrish, Andy Parrish, Brian Parrish, Donald Squires Jr., William Wilkerson and Brian Clayton.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Emma T. Hargrove

HENDERSON -- Emma Frances Terry Hargrove, 80, of 930 Hibernia Mill Road died Monday, July 2, 2001. A native of Mecklenburg County, Va., she was the daughter of the late David and Lucy Webb Terry.
She was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ, where funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. John Durham. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Lucy Brown, Esther Alston and Lida Davis, all of Williamsboro, and Dorothy Townes of the home; a brother, James T. Terry of Townsville; a sister, Martha Terry of Clarksville, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Viewing will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Garnes Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, and floral bearers will be granddaughters.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Service of Henderson.
