Willie Johnson Sr.

WARREN COUNTY -- Willie Johnson Sr., 81, of the Wise community died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Wise by the Rev. James Johnson, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Zell Garnes Johnson; two sons, Willie “Pete” Johnson Jr. and Freeman Johnson, both of Wise; two daughters, Gladys M. Sanders of Henderson and Nellie M. Sturgis of Wilmington, Del.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Fannie P. Pearson

HENDERSON -- Fannie Plummer Pearson, 81, of 210 Booth St. died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Johnny Plummer and Mary Anna Bullock Plummer and the widow of Samuel Russell Pearson.
She received her early education in Vance County public schools. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Winston-Salem Teachers College and a master’s from North Carolina Central University.
She taught in Warren County public schools for more than 40 years and was a member of the North Carolina Education Association and the National Education Association. She also was a member of the Winston-Salem Alumni Association.
She was a member of St. Delight United Holy Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, president of the Missionary Convention, building fund treasurer and assistant secretary of the church. She was active in the Southern District Missionary Department, where she served as a workshop chairwoman for the Home and Foreign Missionary Convention. She was a workshop presenter for the Southern District Ushers Union.
She is survived by five aunts, four uncles, three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive visitors today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Willie Mae Adcock Huff Williams

OXFORD -- Willie Mae Adcock Huff Williams, 79, a resident of 208 Prospect Avenue, died July 5th at Oxford Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie N. Adcock Sr. and Essie Frazier Adcock. She was first married to the late William Huff and later to the late John Louis Williams. She was a member of Delrayno Baptist Church and was retired from Murdoch Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Hilton Moore and the Rev. Irvin Adcock. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Huff Harris and husband Joel Harris Sr. of Henderson; a stepdaughter, Joyce W. Wilson and husband Mac of Oxford; a stepson, James C. Williams and wife Peggy of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Lucille A. Thomas and Mildred A. Woodlief, both of Oxford; a brother, Charles Adcock of Oxford; grandchildren Joel “Jay” Harris Jr., Kenneth Owen, Tommy Owen, Michael Williams, Steve Williams; and five great-grandchildren.
Flowers accepted, or memorials may be made to Delrayno Baptist Church, 208 Rayland Street, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation 7-8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.

Sylvia M.W. Wilson

HENDERSON -- Sylvia Mae Wimbush Wilson, 60, of 2248 Tungsten Mine Road died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, in Durham Regional Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of Careleane Burwell Wimbush and the late James Sidney Wimbush.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Antioch United Church of Christ by the Rev. John E. Durham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her mother, Careleane Burwell Wimbush of Henderson; two daughters, P. Darelene Wilson of Townsville and Natalie Jean Marshall of Centreville, Va.; two sons, Carlton Wilson of Williamsboro and Booker T. Wilson III of Henderson; one sister, Mary W. Moore of Henderson; one brother, Sidney Wimbush of Henderson; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The body will be on view at the church one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Services.

Nellie W. Fleming

HENDERSON -- Nellie Wright Fleming, 78, of 1038 College Street, Oxford, N.C., formerly of Eastside Drive, Henderson, died Friday, July 6, 2001, in Granville Medical Center in Oxford.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Otis and Lizzie Faulkner Wright. She was the widow of Karl Roger Fleming.
Mrs. Fleming was a homemaker. She was a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by Dr. Marion D. Lark. Burial will follow in New Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley F. Jones and husband Ronald of West Monroe, Louisiana; three sisters, Grace W. Kearney, Dorothy W. Kearney and husband J.T., and Lillie Mae Robertson and husband Edgar, all of Henderson; two grandchildren, Karen J. Lambert and husband Terry of Henderson and Ronda J. Ryan of Greensboro; and three great-grandchildren, Heather Lambert and Zachery Lambert, both of Henderson, and Lindsey Ryan of Greensboro. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel W. Harris and Helen W. Edwards; and three brothers, Otha Wright, Durwood Wright and William Wright.
The family will receive friends tonight, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Terry and Karen Lambert, 311 Parrott Road, Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be David Kearney, Danny Wright, Hartwell Wright, Danny Ryan, Tommy Wright, Lawrence Edwards, Tim Ellington and Randy Wright.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to T.V. Ministry of First Baptist Church, 500 Pine Street, West Monroe, Louisiana 71291.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Alvin E. Harris

LOUISBURG -- Alvin Earl Harris, 79, of 360 Burnette Road died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg. He was a Franklin County native and the son of the late Lonnie and Rosa Ann Fuller Harris.
He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, where the funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday by the Rev. S.E. Blalock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his children, Rufus C. Harris of Durham, William E. Harris of Kittrell, Ira B. Harris, Fitzgerald Harris and David O. Harris, all of Henderson, Ralph L. Harris of Maryland, Shirley Consepion, Rose E. Frye and Carolyn C. Jones, all of Southern Pines, Mary E. Durham, Sadie F. Terry, Joyce V. Cooper and Joan Avery, all of Henderson, Phyllis Harris of Creedmoor, and Belinda Newsome of Kittrell; one brother, Lonnie Harris of Newark, N.J.; one sister, Sadie B. Harper of Philadelphia; 52 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 251 Foster Road, Henderson, and also at the home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Floral bearers will be granddaughters.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Hugh P. Rawlings

WARRENTON -- Hugh Plummer Rawlings, 53, of Gaylordsville, Conn., formerly of Warrenton, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at the New Milford Hospital in Milford, Conn.
Arrangements will be announced by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Sherie Smith

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Sherie Smith, 18, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, in Anchorage. She was a native of Hinesville, Ga., and the daughter of Sylvia Smart Davidson and Samuel Smith Sr.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Spotwood Burwell Jr.
The body will lie in state at Williams Funeral Home until noon Monday.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Nissa Davidson; two brothers, Truman Davidson Jr. and Samuel Smith Jr.; two grandmothers, Narcissus Smith of Henderson and Savannah Tharrington of Oxford; and a stepfather, Dr. Truman Davidson Sr.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of Welcome Chapel Baptist Church after the service.
Arrangements are by Williams Funeral Home.

Celesteen Alston

WARREN COUNTY -- Celesteen Alston, 74, of Warren County died Friday, July 6, 2001, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greater Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Embro by the Rev. Edward Harrington. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sisters, Katherine Davis of Rahway, N.J., and Emma Kearney of North Carolina.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Floyd Alston

WARRENTON -- Floyd Alston, 76, of the Baltimore Road community in Warrenton died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at his residence.
Arrangements will be announced by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Willia Barr

WARRENTON -- Willia Barr, 94, of Warrenton died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Martha T.K. Kalinowski

WARRENTON -- Martha Timberlake King Kalinowski, 89, formerly of Arcola, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at her home in Burke, Va. She was the daughter of Thomas W. King and Mary Etta Tharrington King of Arcola.
She was preceded in death by her seven siblings, William King, Hattie King Ayscue, Sam King, Maud King Dillard, Luna King Ellington, Gertrude King Johnson and Foster King.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Arcola. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, John R. Kalinowski; sons, J. Keith Kalinowski and Roger W. Kalinowski; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Bethlehem United Methodist Church before the funeral from 10 to 11 a.m. Beginning Friday evening, the family can be reached at Comfort Inn in Henderson.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Eva M.A. Pearson

PHILADELPHIA -- Eva Maria Adams Pearson, formerly of Henderson, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Philadelphia.
The family will be at 1940 Norlina Road.
Arrangements will be announced by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Anna L. Person

FRANKLINTON -- Funeral services for Anna Lee Person, 75, of 4311 West River Road, who died Thursday, July 5, 2001, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Ransom Way of the Cross Church in Henderson. The Bishop LeRoy Cannady will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, John Mark Person; one son, John P. Person of Las Vegas; one sister, Helen Brice Gardner of Lynchburg, Va.; one brother, Allen Walter Brice of Roanoke, Va.; and four grandchildren.
The wake will be held at the church one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Alston-Anderson Funeral Home of Louisburg.

Hugh R. Plummer

WARRENTON -- Hugh Rawlings Plummer, 53, of Gaylordsville, Conn., formerly of Warrenton, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at New Milford Hospital in Milford, Conn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton by the Rev. Lawrence Harrison. Burial will follow in Warrenton City cemetery.
Surviving are two brothers, George Rawlings of Warrenton and John Earl Rawlings of New Briden, Conn.
The body will be on view at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton until the hour of the service.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Kenneth Roberson

OXFORD -- Kenneth Roberson, 45, of 311 Hillsboro St. died Friday, July 6, 2001.
He attended Mary Potter School and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Lacy Joyner.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth Roberson Jr. of Durham; his mother, Etheleen Crews Roberson of the home; his father, James Roberson II of Asbury Park, N.J.; one sister, Faye Williams of Orlando, Fla.; and one brother, Rickey Roberson of Hamden, Conn.
Viewing was held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.

Gertie M.P. Vaughan

WARRENTON -- Gertie Mae Pitchford Vaughan, 69, of Route 3, Warrenton, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of Waite Pitchford and Cora West Pitchford.
She was a clerk at Winn-Dixie and member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Warrenton. She was the widow of Charlie James Vaughan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Blaylock Funeral Home by the Rev. Gary Pinnell and Sister Margaret Gallagher. Interment will be private.
Surviving are two sons, James Vaughan of Warrenton and Charlie Vaughan of Rich Square; one daughter, Marian C. Franklin of Henderson; two sisters, Nellie Shearin of Louisburg and Ann Evans of Warrenton; four brothers, Edward Pitchford, Robert Pitchford, Waite Pitchford and Lewis Pitchford; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Conrad R. Wilson

MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- Conrad R. Wilson, 72, of 79 McCulloch Ave., Morristown, N.J., and a native of Warren County, N.C., died on Saturday, July 7, 2001, at the Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, N.J. He was born on June 19, 1929, in Warren County, the son of the late Ozie and Janet Wilson.
He retired with 35 years of service with Bell Telephone Laboratories in Whippany, N.J., was a part-time officer for the Special Police Force in Morristown for a number of years, and was also a member of the AT&T Pioneer Club. After serving in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, he received an Honorable Discharge in 1953. He was a distant and dedicated member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Arcola, N.C.
Those left with many precious memories to cherish are his teen-age sweetheart and wife, Mary Solomon Wilson of the home; his two lovely daughters, Sherry W. Webb and husband Alan of Parsippany, N.J., and Evelyn L. Wilson of the home; a dedicated son, Richard L. Wilson, also of the home; two grandsons, Michael Webb and Jermaine Webb and wife Nezley of Parsippany, N.J.; eight sisters, Doris Riley of East Orange, N.J., Wilhelmina Kearney of Ridgeway, N.C., Gwendolyn Pridgeon and husband Roger of Nashville, N.C., Carolyn Bass and husband Vernon, Maxine Walls, Gloria and Pattie Wilson, all of Morristown, N.J., and Joyce Maddox of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Ozie Wilson Jr. of Arcola, N.C., and Barney Wilson of Morristown, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at noon at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Arcola, N.C., with the Rev. Will C. Tabron officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service at the church. Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.

Andrew L. Faulkner

HENDERSON -- Andrew Lee “Red” Faulkner Jr., 75, of 132 Edgewood Drive died Monday night, July 9, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Vance County and was the son of the late Andrew Lee and Gertrude Clopton Faulkner and the widower of Edna Taylor Faulkner.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II; a retired superintendent of Greystone Concrete Products, where he worked for 38 years; and a charter member of the Home Builders Association.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Burgess. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by one daughter, Dee Faulkner Tippett of Henderson; one son, Dale Duane Faulkner of Chapel Hill; one sister, Helen F. Wright of Henderson; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Dee and Bill Tippett, 132 Edgewood Drive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Hartwell Wright, Danny Wright, Randy Wright, Ray Rainey, Steve Simmons, Jack Greene, Ken Patterson, Henry Reaves and W.H. Fletcher.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Coffee Table Group of Dabney Drive Restaurant.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Vance County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 914, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
