Selma G. Upchurch

HENDERSON -- Selma Morton Gill Upchurch, 88, formerly of Chavasse Ave., Henderson, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, in Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Fred and Cecile Champion Gill. She was the widow of George Roy Upchurch.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Rev. George Williams. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Elizabeth U. Putt of Palmyra, Pa., Ann U. Allen of Warrenton, Judy U. Kalmus of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Drucilla U. Abbott of Henderson; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they are at the home of Gilbert and Drucilla Abbott, 288 Rock Mill Road, Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Andrew Abbott, Kevin Abbott, Wally Allen, Brad Worthington, Ranger Wilkinson, John Rainey, Red Wilson and Morris Abbott.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Doug Byrom, Centura Bank, P.O. Drawer 1069, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.

Carrie H. Webb

OXFORD -- Carrie Howard Webb, 92, of Brian Center in Durham, and a former resident of 1020 Hillsboro St., died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Brian Center.
She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Olive Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Mack Timberlake Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn W. Trapiel of Oxford, Brenda W. Jones of Durham and Phyllis W. Royster of Chapel Hill; one sister, Annie L. Gerald of Lumberton; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home and other times at the residence of the Rev. Isaac and Carolyn Trapiel, 1020 Hillsboro St.

Alma H. West

HENDERSON ­ Alma Howell West, 89, of 12378 Hwy. 39 North, Henderson, N.C., died Sunday, July 22, 2001.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late William Richard and Lizzie Reavis Howell. She was the widow of William Henry West, Sr.
Mrs. West was retired from the State of North Carolina, having worked at Murdoch Center. She was a member of Nut Bush Presbyterian Church, in Townsville.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. in Nut Bush Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. John Edgerton, III and Rev. J. Lemar Wheeler. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three sons, William H. West, Jr., and wife, Jean, of Oxford, Edward H. West, and wife, Carolyn, of Cary, and Robert C. West, Sr., and wife, Bonnie, of Oxford; a sister, Sallie H. Jordan, of Raleigh; six grandchildren, W. Keith West, Cammie W. McCracken, Edward H. West, Jr., Robert C. West, Jr., Scott D. West, and Jason B. West; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they are at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Kyla J. Harris-Bradberry

OXFORD -- Kyla Jeneanne Harris-Bradberry, 2-month-old daughter of Phillita D. Harris and Sheldon D. Bradberry, died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Baltimore.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Beulah H. Royster

CHASE CITY, Va. -- Beulah Hull Royster, 84, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Chase City, died Monday, July 23, 2001. She was the widow of Eldon B. Royster.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodland cemetery in Chase City by the Rev. Kevin Eley.
Surviving are her daughters, Linda Koepke of Lovingston, Va., and Yvonne Strum of Oxford; a sister, Azza Lee Adams of Richmond; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Wood Funeral Service from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
Arrangements are by Wood Funeral Service of Chase City.

Eleanor L. Reilly

WARRENTON -- Eleanor Louise Reilly, 79, of Henderson died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Montclair, N.J., and the daughter of the late Harvey Jefferson Anderson and Ida Brown Anderson.
She lived in Lakewood, N.J., and attended Macedonia Baptist Church until September, when she moved to Henderson to live with her daughter.
She was a retired housekeeper for Marlborough State Hospital in Marlborough, N.J.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday by the Rev. A.A. Brown in the Brown family cemetery, near South Warren Elementary School in the Coley Springs community.
Surviving are one daughter, Robin R. Dixon of Henderson, and one granddaughter.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
The family will meet with friends at the Henderson home of her daughter, Robin R. Dixon.
Arrangements are by Brown’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Dewey H. Satterwhite

HENDERSON -- Dewey H. Satterwhite, 81, of 603 Sagefield Way, Henderson, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Linda T.A. Whitt

OXFORD -- Linda Talley Adcock Whitt, 55, of 669 George Sherman Road died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Durham Regional Hospital. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of Irene Harris Talley and the late William Gray Talley.
She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and an employee of Butner-Creedmoor Family Medicine.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Williams. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Roy “Monk” Whitt; one daughter, Lisa Adcock Mize of Oxford; two sons, Larry Adcock and Keith Adcock, both of Oxford; one brother, William G. Talley III of Oxford; one stepdaughter, Gwen Whitt McKay of Roxboro; and 11 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Thaddeus H. Brown

HENDERSON -- Thaddeus Henry Brown, 62, of 681 Faulkner Town Road died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Aquilla and Ruth Brown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul United Church of Christ by Pastor Henry Johen. Interment will be in the Middleburg cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mary R. Brown; a daughter, Angela; three sons, Steven, Michael and Craig, all of Henderson; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Wilbur, Aquilla III and Morris, all of Henderson, and Kenneth of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and five sisters, Lucy Owens, Ruth Nelson, Christine Brown and Gracie Vaughan, all of Henderson, and Ida Lewis of Brooklyn.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Garnes Funeral Services in Henderson.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Sadie B. Holloway

HENDERSON -- Sadie Branch Holloway, 69, of 3687 Eaton Road, Kittrell, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Otha and Genevie Branch.
She was a former employee of John Umstead State Hospital.
Surviving are her husband, Eddie J. Holloway; one son, Arthur Holloway of Oxford; five daughters, Marjorie Davis of Louisburg, Pauline Walker of Durham, Diane Holloway and Glendora Holloway, both of Oxford, and Patricia Ann Holloway of Williamsboro; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Belton Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Anthony E. Cozart. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Willie L. Robinson

HENDERSON -- Willie Lee “Smokey” Robinson, 57, died in Nanuet, N.Y. He was a native of Henderson and the son of the late James and Pauline Pearce Robinson.
He attended Vance County public schools and later moved to New York, where he was a dietitian at the Geriatrics Center in Nanuet. He also was an avid golfer.
Surviving are two daughters, Willia and Gwendolyn Chavis Scott, both of Cary; three brothers, George Robinson of Nanuet, James Robinson of White Plains, N.Y., and Donald Robinson of Henderson; and three sisters, Felicia Hamilton of Orange, N.J., Paulette R. Jones of Hillsborough and Pearl Iris Glover of Henderson.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. July 20 in New Hempstead, N.Y.
Local arrangements are by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Dewey H. Satterwhite

HENDERSON -- Dewey H. Satterwhite, 81, of 603 Sagefield Way died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. A native of Mecklenburg County, Va., Dewey was the son of the late Steven and Annie Langford Satterwhite, living most of his life in Granville County. He was a retired farmer, a member of Stovall Baptist Church and a charter member of the Oxford Lodge #103 Order of Odd Fellows.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Pastor Mark Alexander and the Rev. Don Capell. Burial will follow in Stovall Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian W. Satterwhite; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph M. Satterwhite Sr. and Mary Jean P. Satterwhite of Oxford; his stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Edna Saunders and husband William of Henderson, Yvonne C. Stover and husband Sammy, Shelby C. Howard and husband Earl, both of Lakeland, Fla.; his stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Claude Capell and wife Nadine of Durham, Rev. Donald Capell and wife Millie of Bessemer City; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Satterwhite of Oxford.
Dewey was predeceased by his first wife, Minnie Sue Currin Satterwhite, and his son Harvey T. Satterwhite Sr.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the home in Henderson and the home of Joseph and Mary Jean Satterwhite, 900 Roxboro Rd., Oxford.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1241, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Active pallbearers are William Mason, Clinton Satterwhite, Harvey Satterwhite Jr., Chris Satterwhite, Joe Satterwhite Jr., Benton Miller, Craig Capell, Brian Capell.

Diane D. Williamson

HENDERSON -- Diane Lynn Dwyer Williamson, 54, of 909 Roanoke Ave., Henderson, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Queens, N.Y., and the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Pramberger Dwyer. She was the widow of Jesse James Williamson Jr.
She was a homemaker and was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
A Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church by Father Bill Long. Burial will follow in Stovall Memorial cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia A. Williamson of Henderson; a son, James Dale Williamson of Henderson; a sister, Barbara Musel of College Point, N.Y.; a brother, Michael Dwyer of Leonardo, N.J.; and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ronnie Bailey, Danny Bailey, Mike Williamson, Earl Williamson, Lawrence Ray Williamson, Mark West, Don West, Michael Ranes and Allen Watkins.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 3275 U.S. 158 Bypass, Henderson, N.C. 27537.

Ellis G. Woleslagle

AUBURN, N.Y. -- Ellis Guy Woleslagle, 85, of Auburn, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in New York. He was born in Troy, Pa., and had resided in New York since 1945.
He graduated from Troy High School and LaSalle University in Chicago. He served as corporate secretary for the E.D. Clapp Manufacturing Co., corporate director of Ivanhoe Foods and accounting supervisor for Smith Corona Marchant. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served with the 94th Division under Gen. George Patton. He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and was decorated with four Battle Stars. He was past president of the Auburn Industrial Club and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, June Parker Woleslagle; three children, Kenneth Ellis Woleslagle of Deltona, Fla., Junell Blaylock of Warrenton and Lyle Parker Woleslagle of Auburn; five grandchildren; and three sisters and a brother, all of Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Langham Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial with full military honors will be in Soule cemetery, Sennett, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Sterling Gilliam Library at Kerr-Vance Academy in Henderson are being accepted.

Kyla J. Harris-Bradberry

OXFORD -- Funeral services for 2-month-old Kyla Jeneanne Harris-Bradberry will be conducted at noon Saturday at New Hope Granville Baptist Church by the Rev. James Isaac. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Fort Washington, Md.
Surviving are her parents, Phillita D. Harris and Sheldon D. Bradberry, both of Henderson; one brother, Adaiah Bradberry of Henderson; one sister, Ajula Bradberry of Henderson; her maternal grandparents, Phillip Harris and Barbara Cates Harris of Oxford; her paternal grandmother, Susie P. Bradberry of Henderson; a maternal great-grandmother, Ballie M. Harris of Durham; and a paternal great-grandmother, Susie Terry of Henderson.
The family will receive visitors one hour before the services at New Hope Granville Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Myrtle A. Faulkner

HENDERSON -- Myrtle Ayscue Faulkner, 89, a former resident of 1514 E. Andrews Ave., died Wednesday night, July 25, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a Vance County native and was the daughter of the late William Robert and Pattie Vaughan Ayscue.
She was a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Roy Walker and the Rev. Tim Burgess.
She is survived by one sister, Mae Ayscue Stainback of Henderson, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1699 Weldon’s Mill Road, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

OXFORD -- Isabelle Green, 77, of 906 Goshen St. died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Granville Medical Center.

Miles W. Jones

NORLINA -- Miles Woodrow Jones, 72, of Norlina died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at his residence. He was the son of the late Emmett Green Jones and Gladys Pulley Jones.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Prospect Methodist Church and a member of Woodmen of the World. He was a retired service manager for Kindley Ford Sales in South Hill, Va.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Rose Jones; five children, Judy Ann Stallings, Milton Dale Jones, Rebecca Lynn Martin and Christina Rose Riggleman, all of Norlina, and Angela Christine Thompson of Henderson; seven siblings, Nan E. Jones of Richmond, Va., Virginia Jones Lewis of Richmond, Kathleen Jones Smith of South Hill, Dossy Jones of Richmond, Dorothy Jones Parker of Richmond, Laura Ann Reese of South Hill and Helen Marie Kidd of LaCrosse, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blaylock Funeral Home by the Revs. Warren Cash and Ben Riggleman. Interment will follow at Zion United Methodist Church cemetery in Oine.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to the family, P.O. Box 473, Norlina, N.C. 27563.

Mingo Brodie Jr.

HENDERSON -- Mingo Brodie Jr., 78, of 756 Hillside Ave. died Friday, July 27, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Durham.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Williams Funeral Home of Henderson.
