OXFORD -- John Junius Cash, 67, of 3627 Old Route 75, Stem, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Durham Regional Hospital. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late John Edward and Virgie Tuck Cash.
He was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church and was retired from Brown Transport Co.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Norman MacDowell and Dr. Jim Whitehead. Burial will be in South Granville Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Hicks Cash; a daughter, Diane C. Oakley of Butner; a son, Duwonie E. Cash of Fairfax, Va.; four sisters, Barbara Jean King, Carolyn Cash, Janie Ellington and Anna Frances Harmon, all of Oxford; a brother, Harry D. Cash of Oxford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Isabelle Green

OXFORD -- Isabelle Green, 77, of 906 Goshen St. died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Granville Medical Center.
Funeral services will conducted at 3 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Willie Darby. Burial will be in White Rock Baptist Church’s cemetery.
Surviving are her nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Robert Harding

CREEDMOOR -- Robert Harding, 90, of 606 26th St. died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Durham Regional Hospital.
He was a retired farmer and employee of Murdoch Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Wright Funeral Chapel by the Rev. George L. Bullock. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are nine children, Katheleen Cooper of Butner, Emily Y. Washington of Washington, D.C., Rosa Harding of Lexington Park, Md., Dr. Vivian Harding-Hampton of Greensboro, Clyde Harding of Oxford, Robert Harding of Durham, Col. Ronald L. Harding of Charlotte and Dr. J. Michael Harding of Marietta, Ohio; one sister, Hattie Moore of Oxford; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at Wright Funeral Center during the repast immediately after interment.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Stewart Harris Jr.

NORLINA -- Steward Harris Jr., 51, of Norlina died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Northern Virginia Hospice in Arlington after a short illness.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at R.H. Greene Funeral Home Chapel in Warrenton. Minister Charles B. Alston Sr. will officiate.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Harris; two daughters, Cheryl Anderson and Michele Perry, both of Suitland, Md.; one son, Albert Hawkins of Rocky Mount; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Kyla J. Harris-Bradberry

OXFORD -- Kyla Jeneanne Harris-Bradberry, 2-month-old daughter of Phillita D. Harris and Sheldon D. Bradberry, died Monday, July 23, 2001, in Fort Washington, Md.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon today at New Hope Granville Baptist Church by the Rev. James Isaac III. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one sister, Ajula Trishel Bradberry of Henderson; one brother, Adaiah Trevon Bradberry of Henderson; her maternal grandparents, Phillip and Barbara Cates Harris of Oxford; her paternal grandmother, Susie T. Bradberry of Henderson; a maternal great-grandmother, Vallie M. Harris of Durham; and a paternal great-grandmother, Susie Terry of Henderson.
The family will receive visitors at the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Lucy P. Hicks

STOVALL -- Lucy P. Hicks, 93, of 318 Owens St. died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Sue Morton Marrow and was the widow of Talmadge D. Hicks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Michael Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Hugh F. Peace. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Edna Jean Alston of Henderson; two sisters, Susie Lucas and Mary Marrow, both of the home; four stepdaughters, Cora Lee Roulhac of Troy, N.Y., Mary Roane of White Plains, N.Y., Clara Battle of Elmsford, N.Y., and Nannie Moses of Springfield, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a walk-in visitation held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, and at other times the family will receive friends at the residence, 318 Owens St., Stovall.
Arrangements are by Allen’s Home of Funerals.

Carlton L. Lavinder Sr.

HENDERSON -- Carlton Leslie Lavinder Sr. of 1128 Satterwhite Point Road died Friday, July 27, 2001, in Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh. He was a native of Franklin County, Va., and the son of the late Robert Lee and Mary Ellen Bennett Lavinder. He was the widower of Georgia Elizabeth Wortham Lavinder.
He was retired from Vulcan Materials and was a member of First Baptist Church. Earlier in life, he was very active in aviation, both as a private pilot and as a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 A.F. & A.M. A Master Mason for 53 years, he served as master of the Henderson Lodge in 1963. He was a member of the Henderson York Rite Bodies, including the Henderson Commandery No. 15, Henderson Chapter No. 54 and Henderson Council No. 10. He was a member of the Henderson Shrine Club, the Sudan Shrine Temple and the Blandford Bute Council No. 18 Allied Masonic Degrees.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church by Dr. Marion D. Lark. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in Flat Rock United Methodist Church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Ellen L. Williams and Judith L. Stinner, both of Raleigh; a son, Carlton L. Lavinder Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Thelma L. Mullins of Henry, Va.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Carroll Lavinder.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Flowers Funeral Home.
Members of the Henderson Masonic Lodge will serve as active pallbearers.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 75, Henderson, N.C. 27536, or to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C. 27565.

James M. Lyons

CREEDMOOR -- James M. Lyons, 81, of 2523 Brogden Road died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Triangle Hospice at the Meadowlands, Hillsborough.
He was a retired employee of Murdoch Center and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Pine Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry McElroy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Harris Lyons; two daughters, Gracie Lyons of the home and Mary Evans of Wharton, N.J.; two sons, Otis Lyons of Creedmoor and Carl Lyons of Durham; one sister, Lucille Meadows of Creedmoor; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Gertrude E.B. Scott

HENDERSON -- Gertrude Everlyn Bailey Scott, 94, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at Britthaven Center after an extended illness. She was a native of Richmond, Va., and the daughter of the late Charlie H. and Ruth Ann Banks Bailey.
She was a high school graduate and furthered her studies in cosmetology. She was a cosmetologist for more than 71 years.
At an early age, she joined the Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church under the pastorage of Dr. Cotton and remained a faithful member, serving as elder and trustee.
She was a member of the Astor Garden Club for many years and was a past president.
She was married to the late Robert B. Scott for 58 years.
Surviving are three daughters, Florence Griffith of Los Angeles, Gertrude Cannady of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Angeletta S. Bullock of Henderson; four sons, Charles Robert Scott Sr. of Washington, D.C., Arnold B. Scott Sr. of Henderson, Dr. Marvin B. Scott of Indianapolis and Bobby G. Scott of Durham; two sisters, Elizabeth W. Taylor of Henderson and Mattielean Davis of Washington, D.C.; 22 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Albert Moses, assisted by Dr. St. Paul Epps. Interment will follow in the Elmwood cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday and other times at 420 W. Rockspring St.
The body will be viewed at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service from noon until taken to the church one hour before the services Tuesday.

Katherleen H. Wheeler

OXFORD -- Katherleeen Howell Wheeler, 87, of 904 Raleigh Road died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late James Wesley and Mary Woodlief Howell. She was the widow of Harry Gold Wheeler.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Dr. Randy Pittman and the Rev. Terry Hall. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley W. Currin and Mary W. Matthews, both of Oxford; two sons, H. Macon Wheeler of Creedmoor and William B. Wheeler Sr. of Rougemont; a sister, Louise H. Latta of Durham; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A son, James H. Wheeler, a daughter, Peggy W. Tilley, and two grandchildren, Kenneth W. Wheeler and Vernon N. Tilley, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Leroy and Mary Matthews, 5552 Culbreth Road, Oxford.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Mary Short Beal

HENDERSON -- Mary Frances Short Beal, age 92, a former resident of Kittrell, died Monday afternoon in a local nursing home. She was a native of Franklin County, the daughter of the late Moses and Mary Liza Dickerson Short, and was the widow of Lewis Walter Beal, Sr.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the New Sandy Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Burgess and the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by five daughters, Evelyn Jackson and husband Ernest of Middleburg, Mary Ann Allison and husband John of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, June Overby and husband Stephen of Kittrell, Bessie Wortham and husband Bill and Betty Hope and husband Ernest of Henderson; four sons, Lewis W. Beal, Jr. and wife Susie of Kittrell, John Beal and wife Gloria of Richmond, Virginia, Frank Beal and wife Edna of Mechanicsville,Virginia, and Bruce Beal and wife Polly of Henderson; two sisters, Zaidee Jones of Richmond, Virginia and Minnie Roberson of Powhatan, Virginia; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Kevin Beal.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral
Home. At other times they will be at the home of Ernest and Betty Hope at 300 Steed-Dickerson Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Jason Reavis, Brad Reavis, Keith Brown, Charles Brown, Dennis Overby, Walter Beal, Robbie Watkins, and Jimmy Faulkner.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Blanche E. Belvin

HENDERSON -- Blanche Elizabeth Belvin, 90, formerly of 849 Spring Valley Lake Road, Henderson, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, in a local nursing home. She was a Vance County native and the dauhgter of the late Ellis and Myrtle Wilkerson Belvin.
She was a retired waitress at the former Henderson Motel. She was a member of Spring Valley United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
Surviving is a sister, Evelyn Collins Hedrick of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the home of Evelyn Hedrick, Charlestown Apartments, 236 Corbitt Road, Henderson.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home of Henderson.

Mildred J. Knott

OXFORD -- Mildred Jordan Knott, 88, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in Brantwood Nursing and Retirement Center. She was a Chowan County native and the daughter of the late Noah and Mattie Ward Jordan. She was the widow of Stephen T. Knott.
She was a graduate of Brantwood School of Nursing and worked at Granville Hospital for many years. She was a long-time member of Enon Baptist Church and the Mary Jamison Woman’s Club.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Enon Baptist Church by the Rev. James C. Shelley Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda K. Strother of Raleigh; one son, S. Edwin Knott of Roxboro; one sister, Nina J. Bynum of Tyner; three brothers, Rudolph Jordan and Eugene Jordan, both of Tyner, and Graydon Jordan of Beaufort; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, McIhrie Jordan, L.B. Jordan and Forest Jordan.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Mary Jamison Woman’s Club Scholarship Fund, c/o Mattie Sue Cash, 2711 Enon Road, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation was held form 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford.

Jennie E. Pegram

HENDERSON -- Jennie Ellington Pegram, 88, formerly of Jacksontown Road, Middleburg, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, in Rex Nursing Care Center in Apex. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Nollie Mack and Addie Jackson Ellington. She was the widow of Clarence Jeremiah Pegram.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Middleburg Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Middleburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Eddie Nutt and Dr. Marion D. Lark. Burial will follow in Middleburg cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Dot Pegram Duke of Raleigh; a son, C. Ray Pegram of Henderson; three sisters, Irene E. Gooch, Effie E. Brewer and Mable E. Wortham, all of Henderson; a brother, Henry Ellington of Middleburg; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they are at the home of Ray and Ada Pegram, 1120 U.S. 158 Bypass, Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ray Pegram Jr., Art Duke, William Lee Wiggins, Jimmie Faulkner, Charles Edwards, O.M. Abbott, Wayne Ellington, Bill Ellington, Marvin Breedlove, and Ronald Stainback.

Bobby L. Wilson Sr.

ARANSAS PASS, TEXAS -- Bobby Lane Wilson Sr., 59, of Aransas Pass, Texas, died Monday, July 30, 2001, in Aransas Pass Nursing Center.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the J.M. White Funeral Home.
Arrangements will be announced later by J.M. White Funeral Home of Henderson.

Melvin T. Choplin

HENDERSON -- Melvin Thomas Choplin, 87, of 1499 Carey Chapel Road, Henderson, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in Maria Parham Hospital.
Born in Warren County, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Elizabeth Abbott Choplin.
Mr. Choplin was a retired employee of the state of North Carolina. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a lifelong member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church in Warren County.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 11 a.m., at Central Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Alan W. McAlister and the Rev. Tinney Parrish. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-eight years, Grace Carroll Choplin; two daughters, Bonnie C. Graybeal of Richmond, Va., and Jane C. Wortham of Henderson; three sons, Harold J. Choplin of Rougemont, N.C., Bobby J. Choplin and Mack R. Choplin, both of Henderson; three sisters, Sadie C. Mustian and Effie C. Wright, both of Norlina, and Louise C. Parham of Henderson; two brothers, H. Duke Choplin of Norlina and Ollie J. Choplin of Henderson; eight grandchildren, Judy C. Owen, Sandra C. Wilkerson, Brenda H. Woodcock, Kimberly W. Ellington, Lynette Jo Choplin, Bobby Joe Choplin Jr., Chase T. Choplin and Matthew A. Choplin; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bob Kinton, Jimmy Lewis Peoples, Arch Hoyle, Charles Stallings, Paul Parrish, Pete Jones, J.D. Brown, Dave Carter, Glen Leonard, Rodney Leonard, David Harris and Woodrow Stallings.

Dudley R. Cole

ALBERTSON -- Dudley Ray Cole, 44, of 886 Woodland Church Road, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at his home. He was the son of the late Horace Cole and Maxine Waters Cole Taylor.
He was employed by J.C. Howard Farms as mill manager.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive by the Rev. Don Craft. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memorial Park near Pink Hill.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Merritt Cole; a daughter, Sylvia Lane Cole of the home; two sisters, Patricia Padgett of Henderson and Nadine Paul of Seven Springs; and a brother, Max Alvin Waters of Albertson.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Tyndall Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home.
Arrangements are by Tyndall Funeral Home of Mount Olive.

Bobby Lane Wilson Sr.

ARANSAS PASS, Texas -- Bobby Lane Wilson Sr., 59, a resident of 301 S. Arch St., died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Aransas Pass Nursing and Convalescent Center. He was a native of Vance County and was the son of Mary Florence Hunt Wilson of Henderson and the late
Clyde Raymond Wilson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Eddie Nutt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Baldwin Wilson; two sons, Bobby Lane Wilson Jr. and Clyde Warren Wilson, both of Henderson; two daughters, Angela Wilson Matthews and Susan Wilson Nutt, both of Henderson; two stepsons, Calvin Emett Davidson and David Bryant Davidson, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Marie Wilson Gray of Henderson; nine grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bob Morgan, Clifton Walker, Carl Fisher, Jimmy Twisdale, James Pegram and Randy Hunt.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of his mother at 9707 N.C. 39 North.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
