Richard Macon Aycock

HENDERSON -- Richard Macon Aycock, 87, of 1640 Oakdale Circle, Henderson, N.C., died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Born in Warren County, he was the son of the late Charlie Morton and Mamie Short Aycock. He was the widower of his beloved wife, Elizabeth Duke Aycock.
Mr. Aycock was the retired owner of the former Aycock Shoe Store, which he operated for some twenty five years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held today, at 11 a.m., at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Abidan Shah. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are a sister, Ethel A. White, and husband, Nat, of Bayside, Michigan; a brother, Charlie M. Aycock, and wife, Ruby, of Hopewell, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul B. Aycock, David D. Aycock, and William E. “Bill” Aycock, and dear friend, Virginia Vaughan Andrews.
The family received friends Monday, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. Immediately following today’s service, the family will fellowship with friends at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Dan Williams, Jimmy Williams, Glen Nunnery, James Powell, Dennis Tharrington, and Jerry Stainback. Honorary pallbearers will be James Renn Jr., Webb Miller, Titus Vaughan, Wade Grissom and Stanley Norwich.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Restoration Fund, 114 Church Street, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

George E. Betts

OXFORD -- George Edward Betts, 59, of 101 Halifax St., Oxford, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Granville Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced later by Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc.

John Boyd

WARREN COUNTY -- John Boyd, formerly of Warren County, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in Washington, D.C.
Arrangements are pending with the R.H. Greene Funeral Home in Warrenton.

Ernestine S. Cash

OXFORD -- Ernestine “Teenie” Smith Cash, 75, of 120 Salem Road, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at her home. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Ernest Franklin and Margaret Finch Smith. She was the widow of James Merlin Cash Sr.
She was a member of Oxford Baptist Church, having sung in the church choir for many years, a member of the Oxford Women Club and was retired from Carolina Power and Light Company.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Oxford Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Bolton. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving is one son, James Merlin Cash Jr. of Apex.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of Oxford Baptist Church or to the Building Fund of Oxford Baptist Church, P.O. Box 398, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the home of Ernestine Pruitt, 410 Coleman St., Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Johnnie Davis Jr.

WARRENTON -- Johnnie Davis Jr., 56, of Warrenton, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Arrangements will be announced later by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Allen Hargrove

WARREN COUNTY -- Allen Hargrove, 58, formerly of Warren County, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Richmond, Va.
Arrangements are pending with the R.H. Greene Funeral Home in Warrenton.

James Isreal

MANSON -- James Isreal, 47, of Manson, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at the N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Manson Baptist Church in Manson. The Rev. Cranford Davis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Bullock Isreal of the home; his father, John W. Isreal of Manson; six sisters, Mary Lee Carroll of Hartford, Conn., Enida Genry of Orangeville, Va., Mamie Durham and Violet Durham, both of Manson, Margaret Shaw and Theresa Bullock, both of Norlina; and seven brothers, John Isreal of Hartford, Conn., Theodore Isreal and Robert Williams, both of Henderson, Harold Williams of Soul City, Leon Williams and Bobby Bullock of Warrenton, and John Bullock of Norlina.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

James A. Jones

BEULAVILLE -- James Arthur Jones, 77, of 149 Batts Road, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, in Goldsboro.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at First Missionary Baptist Church in Magnolia. Burial will be in the Middleton cemetery in Kenansville.
Surviving are a wife, Ali Mae Batts Jones; two daughters, Annette Williams of Rose Hill and Debra Jefferson of Greensboro; one son, the Rev. Richard Batts of Youngsville; three sisters, Mary M. Jones, Bessie B. Jones and Daisy J. Best, all of Kenansville; one brother, Andrew Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state today at First Missionary Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until the hour of services. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to services.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Mr. James L. Oxendine

CHARLOTTE -- Mr. James L. Oxendine, 76, of Charlotte, died Sunday, August 5, 2001 at Presbyterian “Main” Hospital. A private graveside service will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001 at Lumbee Memorial Gardens in Pembroke, N.C.
Mr. Oxendine was born May 5, 1925 in Robeson County, N.C., the son of the late Dock and Roxie Hunt Oxendine. He served in the Italian Campaign of WWII and received a Bronze Star.
Mr. Oxendine is survived by son, Randolph Oxendine and his wife, Darlynn, of Henderson, N.C.; daughters, Rita Walker of Henderson, N.C., Roxie Walker and her husband, James, of Charlotte; brothers, Daniel Oxendine of Philadelphia, Pa., Lynord Oxendine of Florence, S.C.; sisters, Lessie Mae Deal of Charlotte, Clementine Hunt and her husband, Will, of Huntersville, N.C., Wilma Young of Charlotte; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to, American Diabetes. Association, 1820 E. 7th St., Charlotte, N.C. 28204.
Arrangements by McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service, Charlotte Chapel.

James E. Pilkington

OXFORD -- James Elton Pilkington, 55, of 3141-A White Oak Drive, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at his residence.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Pilkington of the home; daughter, Christy Collier of Henderson; sisters, Faye Lane of Mt. Olive, Ann Creech of Wilson, Sheila Pridgen of Rocky Mount; brothers, Linwood Pilkington of Wilson, Donnie Ray Pilkington and Richard Earl Pilkington, both of Rocky Mount; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Service of Wilson.

Lisa H. Swanson

OXFORD -- Lisa Handelman Swanson, of 3417 Grove Gate Court, Richmond, Va., died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Richmond. She was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and was raised in Oxford.
She was a member of Delrayno Baptist Church and was a kitchen and bath designer. She was a 1986 graduate of J.F. Webb High School.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Hilton Moore. Entombment will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are her father and mother, Franklin “Dee” and Barbara Oakley of Oxford; two sisters, Wendy Lee McConnell of Scaly Mountain and Cathy Thompson of Butner.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home Inc.

Gladys M. Worley

MIDDLEBURG -- Gladys Marie Worley, 74, of 770 Cedar Cove Road died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Uniontown, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Harry and Maude Locy Blaney.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Baptist faith and a member of the Middleburg Garden Club.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Eddie Nutt. Burial will follow in the Middleburg cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, William R. “Bill” Worley; one daughter, Sherri Ann Jones of Raleigh; one son, Dale Alan Worley of Elkridge, Md.; one sister, Shirley Parise of Pace, Fla.; one brother Samuel Blaney of Pensacola, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home on Cedar Cove Road.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

George E. Betts
OXFORD -- George Edward Betts, 59, of 101 Halifax St. died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Granville Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Whetstone Baptist Church by the Rev. R.N. Holloway. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine; two daughters, Robin Betts Wright and Angela Hawkins of Oxford; one son, George Hawkins of Fort Carson, Colo.; one brother, Floyd Wilson Betts of Oxford; and nine grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Johnnie Davis Jr.

WARRENTON -- Johnnie Davis Jr., 56, of Warrenton died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Spring Green Baptist Church in Warrenton by the Rev. Dennis Lindsey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Ethel Alston Davis of Warrenton; one son, Antonio Davis of Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Gloria Davis of Norlina; four brothers, Willie Davis and Dexter Davis, both of Chicago, Otto Davis of Warrenton, and Donnie Davis of Henderson.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Robert C. Ellis IV

DURHAM -- Robert Charles Ellis IV, beloved son of Monica Reckless-Ellis and Robert Charles Ellis III of Durham, died on Monday, August 6, 2001. Surrounded by love, he was welcomed into this world on March 16, 2001, and was dedicated at Kittrell Baptist Church on Sunday, May 20, 2001, in a service performed by the Rev. Irvin Adcock.
With his gentle spirit and sparkling blue eyes, Robert Charles was the utter delight of his family. In his brief time on Earth, he brought happiness and joy as he snuggled affectionately in the arms that held him, played joyfully in his bath and responded so sweetly to the music that was such a part of his life. His eager eyes soaked in the world around him. A symbol of all that is innocent and good, his birth was a blessed event.
In addition to his parents, Robert Charles is survived by his maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. John B. Reckless of Durham; his paternal grandparents, Bob and Ellen Carole Ellis of Kittrell; his uncle, Bryan Reckless of Durham; and his aunt, Cathy Ellis (Aunt Sissy) of Kittrell. He is also survived by Mr. and Mrs. Peter Reckless of England; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Klose and children of Canada; Annemarie Stephens and children of Canada; Joyce Reckless of Canada; Mr. and Mrs. Johchem Moeller and children of Germany; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Kerley Jr. and son of Kittrell; Mr. and Mrs. Winston Kerley and children of Kittrell; Mrs. Pat Merritt and children of Goldsboro; Steve and Louise Ellis and children of Salisbury; and many extended family members and loving friends. Robert Charles was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Claude and Earline Kerley of Kittrell and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ellis of Shelby.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held Friday, August 10, at 6 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel, 1113 W. Main Street, Durham, N.C., with the Rev. Irvin Adcock and the Rev. Albert Nelius officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in Robert Charles’ name to the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Box 90626, Durham, N.C. 27708 or to the March of Dimes, 4112 Pleasant Valley Road, Suite 208, Raleigh, N.C. 27612.

Mamon Foster Jr.

HENDERSON -- Mamon Foster Jr., 66, of 250 Big Ruin Creek Lane died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was the son of Minnie B. Foster and the late Mamon Foster Sr.
He was educated in the Vance County public schools and was a former employee of Burkhart Mills and a long-distance truck driver.
He was a member of the usher board and all-male chorus of Big Ruin Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday by Dr. C.B. Walton. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Nell Rose Foster; five sons, the Rev. James Foster, David Foster and George Foster, all of Henderson, Leon Foster of Warrenton, and Wayne Foster of Kittrell; a daughter, Angela Foster Dunston of Henderson; his mother, Minnie B. Foster of Henderson; two brothers, Nathaniel Foster and Harold White of Henderson; two sisters, Minnie Louise Harris of Henderson and Lucille Thorpe of Richmond, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Garnes Funeral Services.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and cousins.

Allen Hargrove

WARREN COUNTY -- Allen Hargrove, 58, formerly of Warren County, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Level Baptist Church in Drewry by the Rev. Leon White, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two children, Joan Hargrove of Soul City and Allen Hargrove Jr. of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren; nine sisters, Rosa Hargrove, Lillie Hargrove and Sallie Jones, all of Wise, Barbara Henderson of Manson, Jeanette Bullock of Norlina, Helen Hargrove of Soul City, Ida Downey and Hattie Hargrove of Warrenton, and Mary Seward of Middleburg; seven brothers, Willie Hargrove of Middleburg, Donnell Hargrove and Thurman Hargrove, both of Henderson, Charles Hargrove of Drewry, Richard Hargrove of Warrenton, Bobby Hargrove of Richmond, and John Hargrove of Alexandria, Va.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

J. Woodrow Keith

CREEDMOOR -- J. Woodrow Keith, 82, of 12328 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was a native of Wake County and the son of the late Juddie and Leatha Bailey Keith. His wife, Aileen Holloway Keith, preceded him in death.
He was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church and the Men’s Bible Class. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Jack Hollowell. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Keith Latta of Creedmoor; three sisters, Curvie Buriss of Knoxville, Tenn., Swannie Bullock of Cary and Kathleen Lea of Creedmoor; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Olive Grove Baptist Church Road, 3024 Olive Grove Church Road, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home of Tommy and Judy Latta, 1130 Dutchville Drive, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.

Robert J. Davis

OXFORD -- Robert J. Davis, 75, of 805 Sunset Ave. died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Patrick Henry Harrison Davis and Helen Stem Davis.
He was a retired farm and dairy manager for the Oxford Orphanage, receiving the Top Dairyman Award for North Carolina in 1983. He was a member of The Congregation at Duke University Chapel in Durham, a member of Oxford Masonic Lodge No. 122 A.F. & A.M., a member of Oxford York Rite Bodies, and a member of the Sudan Shrine Temple in New Bern.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Patricia Stone. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving is his wife, Bonnie McRae Davis of the home.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to the Oxford Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C. 27565.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Paul A. Eyrick

OXFORD -- Paul A. Eyrick, 79, of 7090-G Cornwall Road died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001. He was a native of Tuttlingen, Germany, and a resident of Granville County for 20 years.
Surviving are his wife, Annemarie W. Eyrich; a daughter, Monika Marcinko of Oxford; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family at the home.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home.

Thurman E. Hilton

OXFORD -- Thurman E. Hilton, 64, of 1034 Enon Road died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001. He was a native of Caswell County and the son of the late E.C. and Mabel Myers Hilton.
He was employed most of his life with the family’s Hilton Lumber Co. and with Revlon Consumer Products. He was an Army veteran and in the Army Reserve for 10 years. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Keith Williams.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Gooch Hilton of the home; one daughter, Lisa Stark Tarlton of Oxford; two sons, John K. Stark of Charlotte and J. Todd Stark of Raleigh; two grandchildren; one sister, Edith H. Whitt of Oxford; five brothers, Virgil, James and Alton Hilton, all of Oxford, Atlee Hilton of Lillington, and Harold Hilton of Creedmoor.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy E. and Melvin C. Hilton.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1171 U.S. 158-W, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
