Mary L.A. Garrison

HENDERSON -- Mary Lillian Allen Garrison, 89, of Britthaven in Henderson died Tuesday, November 13, 2001, in Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. She was a native of Louisburg and the daughter of the late Arthur Bruce Allen and Lillian Perry Allen.
Mrs. Garrison was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso Carrol Garrison; two sons, Charles A. Garrison of Charlotte and Sam P. Garrison of Davidson.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. from the Oakwood cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Newell S. Garrison and wife Alice of Henderson and James C. Garrison and wife Audrey of Bradenton, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Lancaster Funeral Home, 804 N. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg.
Flowers will be accepted, or contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 114 Church Street, Henderson, N.C. 27536.

Early T. Harris

DURHAM -- Early Thomas Harris, 90, of 4208 Belltown Road died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Treyburn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Durham. He was the son of the late Edward Harris and Pearl L. Oakley Harris.
He was a member of the New Hope Granville Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Eugene T. Harris of Oxford; one daughter, Ila P. Green of Roxboro; two brothers, William A. Harris of Stovall and Chester Harris of Atlanta; 27 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Betts & Son Chapel by the Bishop Clinton Winston. Burial will follow in the New Hope Granville Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 tonight at Betts & Son Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Willis T. Hayes

WARREN COUNTY -- Willis Thomas Hayes died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in Newport News, Va. He was a native of Warren County and the son of William Henry “Bud” Hayes and Annie Cheek Hayes.
He was married to Marrion Davis Hayes.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at First Baptist Church Denbigh.
Arrangements were by Cooke Brothers Funeral Home in Newport News.
Local arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Home.

Joseph Marks

WARRENTON -- Joseph Marks, 83, of Warrenton died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Annie M. Moseley

OXFORD -- Annie Mae Moseley, 63, of 120 Rectory St. died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at her home. She was the daughter of the late John Albert and Sarah Smith.
She was a member of the Whetstone Baptist Church, where she was an usher and a member of the senior choir.
She was an employee of the Department of Justice at John Umstead Hospital.
Surviving are her husband, James A. Moseley Sr.; five children, Jacqueline Nichols of Herndon, Va., Reginald Jones of Memphis, Tenn., Karen Piper of Henderson, Angela Wilson of Oxford and Miles Bailey of the home; three stepchildren, James Moseley Jr. and Rodney Moseley, both of Oxford, and Nichelle Moseley of Charlotte Court House, Va.; two brothers, Marshall H. Smith and Albert O. Smith, both of Oxford; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Whetstone Baptist Church by the Revs. R.N. Holloway and Lacy Joyner. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday at Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Harris Yancey

OXFORD -- Harris Yancey, 91, of 308 Person St. died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Joe Yancey and Roxie Royster Yancey.
She was a member of the New Jonathan Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are one brother, Tommie L. Yancey of Oxford; and two stepsisters, Frances Brooks and Rosetta B. Betts, both of Oxford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at New Jonathan Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Gregory Webb. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family received visitors Wednesday at Betts & Son Funeral Home Inc.

Jackson Burroughs Sr.

HENDERSON -- Jackson H. Burroughs Sr., 86, of 486 George Floyd Road died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at his residence. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Charlie Burroughs and Charity Flemming Burroughs.
He was a military veteran, serving during World War II.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ashley Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Battle. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Luberta Burroughs; one daughter, Charity B. Johnson of the home; four sons, Jackson H. Burroughs Jr. of Henderson, Curtis Burroughs of the home, and Anthony Burroughs and William Burroughs, both of Durham; two sisters, Betty Brown of the Bronx, N.Y., and Viola Allen of New Jersey; four brothers, James Burroughs of New York, Eugene Burroughs of Louisburg, and Chester Burroughs and Edward T. Burroughs of Henderson; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Floral bearers will be nieces and friends.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Adelaide G. Beam

BULLOCK -- Adelaide “Mama” Greene Beam, 80, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at her residence in Bullock. She was a Mitchell County native and the widow of Lloyd Beam.
She moved to Tungsten Mine in 1947 at the age of 26. She and her family later moved to the Bullock community, where she has lived ever since.
She was a faithful member of Tungsten Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Tungsten Baptist Church by the Revs. Sam Brewer and Fred Powell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her children, Dovey B. Cooper, Lucille B. Forbes, Richard L. Beam and Lee Roy Beam, all of Bullock; a brother, Charles Greene of Marion; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville, Va.
Arrangements are by Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home of Clarksville.

Frances McKnight

HENDERSON -- Frances McKnight of 306 Hawkins Drive died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, in New York.
Arrangements will be announced by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Sonny R. Rice Jr.

HENDERSON -- Sonny Roscoe Rice Jr., 48, of 218 Swan St. died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of Daisy Rice and the late Sonny Rice Sr.
He was a graduate of Henderson Institute and was employed with Area Mental Health for several years.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Henderson, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Joseph Ratliff. Interment will be in the Blacknall cemetery.
Surviving are his mother, Daisy Rice of Henderson; two brothers, Michael Rice of Charlotte and pastor Stan Rice of Henderson; and a sister, Dorsina Hargrove of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Garnes Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Frankie R. Walker

TOWNSVILLE -- Frankie Riggan Walker, 83, a resident of Townsville, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
The family will be at the home of Cliff Walker, 9736 N.C. 39 North.
Other arrangements will be announced by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Willie Bailey
CREEDMOOR -- Willie Bailey, 77, of 410 Watson St., died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Durham Regional Hospital.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of Greenfield Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greenfield Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard E. Jackson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Myers of Yonkers, N.Y., Lucille Bailey of the home and Janet B. Pettiford of Creedmoor; one son, Willie Lee Bailey of Durham; four sisters, Louise Smith of Butner, Mildred Burgess of Stem, Mandy Moss and Mary Frances Lewis, both of Creedmoor; one brother, George Burwell of Durham; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.

Donald W. Dickerson

HENDERSON -- Donald Wayne “Red” Dickerson, 40, of Lot 37 at J.P. Taylor Road, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Freedom Life Church of God. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of David and Joanie Inscoe, 463 Welcome Ave.
Other arrangements will be announced by J.M. White Funeral Home.

Alice G. Henderson

WARRENTON -- Alice G. Henderson, 89, of the Embro community, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Manson. Dr. Richard Henderson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are five daughters, Sallye Allen, Irene Towns and Reginia Ryan, all of Maryland, Hoistene Henderson and Evelyn Echols, both of North Carolina; four sons, Randolph Henderson, Barrington Henderson and William Henderson, all of North Carolina, and Benjamin Henderson of Maryland; one sister, Mollie Bullock; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Katie M.A. Jones

CREEDMOOR -- Katie Mangum Ayscue Jones, 89, of 213 Fleming St., died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Granville Medical Center. She was a Franklin County native and the daughter of the late Willie and Nancy Alford Mangum. She was the widow of Solon Ayscue and H.T. Jones.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at the Creedmoor cemetery by the Rev. Dan Hill.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Ayscue Murray of Oxford and Mildred Ayscue Roberts of Creedmoor; a son, Erston Ayscue of Creedmoor; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Pete Ayscue, and a grandson preceded her in death.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home of Billy and Mildred Roberts, 1785 Hwy. 15, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Creedmoor.

Robert P. Jones

HENDERSON -- Robert Poe Jones, age 79, a resident of 1506 Parker Lane, died at his home on Monday, November 19, 2001. Born August 19, 1922 in Richmond, Virginia, he was the son of the late Samuel Rosser and Lillian Poe Jones.
After the death of his parents, Mr. Jones moved to Henderson at an early age and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Charles and Alma Jones Ellis. He attended Henderson High School, Mars Hill College, and the University of North Carolina. Mr. Jones was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was a retired Assistant Vice President of Centura Bank.
He is survived by his wife, Sterling Moore Jones of the home; two daughters, Nancy Jones Winslow and husband, Tom, of Oak City, N.C., and Moli Jones of Hurdle Mills, N.C.; one sister, Molly Bugg Elliott of Coudersport, Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren, Sterling and Whichard Winslow.
Mr. Jones was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. by the Rev. Richard C. Brand.
The family will receive friends at the home and immediately following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 222 Young Street, Henderson, N.C. 27536, or to the charity of your choice.

Rev. W. Douglas Lamb

HENDERSON -- Rev. Waverly Douglas Lamb, 74, of Wesley Pines Retirement Community, Lumberton, and formerly of Henderson, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Joseph Daniel and Ruby Woolard Lamb.
He was a retired Methodist minister. Locally, he had served White Memorial United Methodist Church, Tabernacle United Methodist Church, and Marrow’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at City Road United Methodist Church by the Revs. Danielle A. Kirkland and Barry O. Barber. A private burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Parrott Lamb; two sons, W.D. Lamb Jr. of Hemingway, S.C., and Ted W. Lamb of Wilmington; a brother, Joseph Cheatham Lamb of Henderson; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Cheatham and Dorothy Lamb, 1501 Peace St., Henderson.
Flowers are omitted. Memorials may be made to Wesley Pines Retirement Community, 1000 Wesley Pines Road, Lumberton, N.C. 28358.

Dorothy T. Regan

OXFORD -- Dorothy Tillotson Regan, 89, of 165 Pine Cone Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at her home. She was a Halifax County native, the daughter of the late Lalage Clare Rice and William Grey Tillotson and the widow of E.T. Regan.
She attended Meredith College in Raleigh, was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, past president of the Edna Crews Circle of the U.M.W., past president of the Oxford Womans Club, and past president of the Granville County Arts Council.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Oxford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gala Collins. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are her daughters, Clare Bonner of Arlington, Va., Dorothy Daughtry of Wilmington, Susan McDonnell of Somerset, Va.; her sons, Eli T. Regan Jr. and Patrick L. Regan, both of Oxford, Duncan C. Regan of Hinesville, Ga., Michael K. Regan of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Oxford United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 757, Oxford, N.C. 27565 or to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, N.C. 27565.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Mary M.D. Sellars

LAKELAND, FLA. -- Mary Meadows Duke Sellars, 87, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Lakeland, Fla. She was a native of Henderson and the daughter of the late Ransom H. Duke and Rowena Daniel Duke.
A lifelong resident of Henderson, she was married in 1935 in the First Baptist Church to Charles Patrick Sellars who preceded her in death.
She was a charter member of the Contemporary Book Club and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Henderson.
Surviving are a brother, Ransom H. Duke Jr. of New Orleans, La.; two daughters, Marilyn Sellars Leonard of Lakeland, Fla., and Julia Sellars Davis of Franklinton; and one son, Charles Patrick Sellars of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted at Elmwood cemetery at a later date.
