HENDERSON -- Katie Parrish Yarborough, 93, of 567 Horner St. died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Edward and Lizzie Parrish.
She was a member of Spring Street Missionary Baptist Church, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. Chad Armstrong, the Rev. Robert M. Burnette and the Rev. Cora Boyd assisting. Burial will follow in Blacknall cemetery.
Surviving is one sister, Mary E. Parrish of Mount Vernon, N.Y.
The body will be on view from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Spring Street Missionary Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Rogelio Amaro-Duran

HENDERSON -- Rogelio Amaro-Duran, age 25, of 252 Newbethel Rd. died November 24 in an auto accident. He is survived by his parents, Rogelio Amaro Zuniga and Maria Natividad-Duran Torres, both of Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Survivors also include a brother, Reymundo Amaro-Duran of Henderson; 2 sisters, Esmeralada Amaro-Duran of Henderson and Mayra Amaro-Duran of Houston, Texas; 2 younger sisters from Mexico; and his fiancé, Alice “Ali” Faith Decker of Norlina; plus his many family and friends both from North Carolina and Mexico.
Mr. Amaro-Duran is being sent to his homeland of Mexico for burial, shipping arrangements provided by Professional Mortuary Service of Durham, N.C.

Wilbert H. Brodie

HENDERSON -- Wilbert H. Brodie of 723 Water St. died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Service.

Herbert D. Bullock

MANSON -- Herbert D. Bullock, 57, of Manson died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at his residence.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Easter W. Burwell

HENDERSON -- Easter Williams Burwell, 63, of Warren Hills Nursing Center died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at her residence.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Gaylord E. Dean

HENDERSON -- Gaylord Eugene Dean, 69, husband of Barbara Hupps Dean, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in Henderson.
He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and worked as a machinist for the Research Triangle Institute until his retirement.
Memorial services will be conducted today at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Bill Long officiating. Entombment will be in the church cemetery mausoleum.
Visitation will immediately follow the service.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Kimberly D. Wade and Anita D. Crews, both of Henderson; three sons, Rockford Dean and Randolph Dean, both of Lakeland, Fla., and Dana Dean of Bennett; two sisters, Mae Johnson and Carolyn Howard, both of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; three brothers, Edwin Dean of St. Lucie, Fla., Chester Dean of Washington Courthouse and Ronald Dean of Clarksville, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 3275 U.S. 158 Bypass, Henderson, N.C. 27537.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of Virginia of Clarksville.

Ada H. Edwards

HENDERSON -- Ada Hoyle Edwards, 88, of 111 Twelve Oaks Lane died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late John H. and Dora Garrett Hoyle.
She was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Gillburg United Methodist Church, where she attended the Hattie Faulkner Sunday school class.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gillburg United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tom Denny. Burial will follow in the Hoyle family cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Louis Edwards; four daughters, Thelma E. Newman, Bonnie Rose Burhmester and Geraldine E. Effinger, all of Henderson, and Barbara E. Jarrell of Clyde; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jimmy Newman, Donnie Hoyle, Andy Hoyle, Jimmy Hoyle, Tony Braswell, James Edwards, Donald Hoyle, Brad Satterwhite, Jimmy Averette, Darrell Averette and Maurice Boyd.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Gillburg United Methodist Church, 4815 N.C. 39 South, Henderson, N.C. 27537.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Angela C. Thomas

HENDERSON -- Angela Champion Thomas, 32, of 523 Alexander Ave. died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of H. Ray Champion and Rose Cleaton Champion of Henderson.
She attended Freedom Life Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Revs. Jeff Prewer and Jack Jenkins. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are a son, Christopher M. Thomas Jr. of the home; a brother, Thomas Ray Champion of Henderson; her maternal grandmother, Mary R. Cleaton of Henderson; and her great-grandmother, Anna J. Jarrell of Henderson.
The family will receive friends at the home on 523 Alexander Ave., Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be William Duffell, Todd Poteat, Ray Collier, W.C. Smith, Andy Parrish, Cecil Bowes, David Ross, Todd Penny and Jimmy Hughes.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Wilbert H. Brodie

HENDERSON -- Wilbert H. “Pug” Brodie, 71, of 723 Water St. died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Vance County and the son of the late James and Della Brodie.
He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for many years and attended the public schools of Vance County. He worked at Lauren Glass Co. and John Umstead Hospital for more than 30 years. He served in the United States Army, stationed in South Korea.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. J.H. Bryant, the Rev. Harry Williams and the Rev. Mary Cannady. Burial will be at the Blacknall cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Sadie C. Brodie; two sons, Tommie Del Brodie and Roscoe Brodie of Henderson; two daughters, Barbara Brodie Massey of Winston-Salem and Anna Rose Moore of Plainfield, N.J.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The body will be on view from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Garnes Funeral Home of Henderson.
Pallbearers will be trustees of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Wade Jackson, Alvin Jeffries, Manuel Jeffries, Leroy Thorpe, Jerome Richardson and Louis Carroll.
Floral bearers will be active missionaries of the church.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Home.

Easter W. Burwell

HENDERSON -- Easter Williams Burwell, 63, of Warren Hills Nursing Center died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Willie Williams Sr. and Louise Williams.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Roland Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Isaac Thomas. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Kim White and Tammie Williams, both of Henderson; one son, Ershell Williams of New Jersey; two sisters, Edith Lyons of East Orange, N.J., and Bessie Whitley of Henderson; one brother, Eugene Williams of New Jersey; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson and other times at the home of Tammie Williams, 127 Casei Lane, Aycock Village.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Gladys Crosson

HENDERSON -- Gladys Crosson, 92, of 712 E. Andrews Ave. died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Williams Funeral Home.

Vell V.B. Kingsberry

HENDERSON -- Vell Virginia Brown Kingsberry, 72, of 1740 Hicksboro Road died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. She was a Franklin County native and the daughter of the late Warren and Nora Holden Brown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rowland Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Isaac Thomas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel Kingsberry of the home and Clarence Kingsberry Jr. of Henderson; three daughters, Mable Thomas, Annie Cousin and Jennifer Kingsberry, all of Henderson; one sister, Gracie Hope of Henderson; her husband, Clarence Kingsberry Sr. of Henderson; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
The body will be on view at the funeral home until taken to the church to lie in state one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Alice W. Phelps

LITTLETON -- Alice Wright Phelps, 62, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of William Henry and Nora Gibson Wright.
She was the widow of Howard Phelps, was employed by Browning Electric Co. and was office manager for Halifax Electric.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Hill cemetery in Littleton.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Blaylock Funeral Home in Littleton.
Surviving are one son, James Phelps of Roebuck, S.C.; three sisters, Betty Young of Littleton, Margaret Lynch of Norlina and Mary Frances Whitby of Lawrenceville, Va.; one brother, Henry Wright of Roanoke Rapids; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Littleton.

Harold W. Anthony

ST. PAULS -- Harold Warren Anthony, 54, of 4835 Chickenfoot Road, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was the son of Mary Bell Anthony and the late William Warren Anthony.
He was a U.S. Army Retired CW2 veteran of the Vietname War, a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and served 14 years as a computer analyst for the Department of Defense. He was also a member of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club.
Memorial services with full military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Highland Funeral Service & Crematory by the Rev. H. Lucas Lloyd.
Surviving are his wife, Jane A. Anthony; mother, Mary Bell Anthony of Oxford; son, Harold “J.R.” Warren Anthony Jr. of Greensboro; daughter, Charlene Anna Long of Charlotte; one brother, Donald R. Anthony of Henderson; four sisters, Carolyn Keeton of Bullock, Gail Ramsey of Henderson, Wilma Champion of Catawba and Beverly Jones of Stovall; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at the home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 35752, Fayetteville, N.C. 28303.

Gladys C.M. Crosson

HENDERSON -- Gladys C. Massenburg Crosson, 92, of 712 E. Andrews Ave., died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Haywood and Katie Harris Cooke. She was the widow of Stephen Massenburg Sr. and Locksey Crosson.
She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 80 years during which time she taught Sunday school, sang in the Chancel Choir and worked in the Missionary Circle, Prayer and Bible Study group and other auxiliaries of the church.
She was educated in Vance County Schools and was a graduate of the former Henderson Institute, and the former Winston Salem State Teachers College where she received the B.S. degree in education. For over 40 years, she taught in the Vance County School System at the former Kittrell Graded School, Zeb Vance Elementary School, Shady Grove Elementary School and others.
Before her illness, she was an active member of the Winston-Salem State Alumni Club and a member of the N.C. State Retired Teachers Association.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Shiloh Baptist Church of Henderson with the Rev. David S. Vaughan, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Joseph Ratliff, pastor, and the Revs. Spotswood Burwell, William C. Brodie and Harry Williams. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the services.
Surviving is one son, Lafayette A. Massenburg of the home.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are by Williams Funeral Home.

Minnie L. Hight

HENDERSON -- Minnie Lee Hight, 73, of 1252 Hight St., died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
The family will be at the home of Mary Helen Garner, 757 Boddie St.
Arrangements will be announced by J.M. White Funeral Home.

Keonda A. Martin

HENDERSON -- Keonda Antwonette Martin, 12, of 604 East Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Claude E. Medlin

CREEDMOOR -- Claude Edward Medlin, 83, of 2278 Hwy. 15, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at his home. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late Joe and Pattie Hamm Medlin.
He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European theatre and receiving three Purple Hearts. He was also a member of First Baptist Church and retired from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. Don Brown. Burial will be in the Creedmoor cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Gracie Arnold Medlin of the home; a son, Edward E. Medlin of Creedmoor; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home Inc.

Pearl E.B. Perkinson

NORLINA -- Pearl Edith Bobbitt Perkinson, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at her Norlina residence. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Stephen Erasmus Bobbitt and Elizabeth Jones Bobbitt.
She was a member of Norlina United Methodist Church and was the widow of Hiram Perkinson Jr.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Jerusalem United Methodist Church cemetery by the Revs. Bryan Huffman and Mark Clayton.
Surviving are four sons, Philip Perkinson of Norlina, Hiram Perkinson III of Tarboro, Donald W. Perkinson of Ridgeway and Ronald Perkinson of Norlina; one sister, Doris Wilkerson of Littleton; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Otis Roberson

GIBSONVILLE -- Otis Roberson, 88, of Gibsonville, and a former resident of 508 Harriett St. in Henderson, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Blakey Hall Assisted Living in Elon after two weeks of critical illness. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Anderson and Ollie Hall Roberson. He was the widower of Beulah Ayscue Roberson.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Gardens in Henderson by the Rev. Donnie Perkinson.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Roberson Gerringer of Gibsonville; one son, Henry Roberson of Burlington; two sisters, Aliene Short of Norlina and Vivian Barker of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Roberson.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at J.M. White Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance and Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215 or to Blakey Hall, 501 N. Manning, Elon, N.C. 27244.

PHILADELPHIA -- Gladys Cheatham Smith, 77, a Vance County native, died in Philadelphia, Pa.
Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service of Henderson.
