WARRENTON -- Alice Shearin Hendricks, 99, of Warren Hills Nursing Center died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Macon by the Rev. Preston Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Sinnie Boyd of Macon and Lucille Carter of Portsmouth, Va.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Elizabeth Hunter of Richmond, Va.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Mary J. Williams

HENDERSON -- Mary Jane Williams, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Philadelphia. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Claude and Cassie Smith.
At an early age, she joined the Sandy Grove Baptist Church, where she served on the choir. She attended Franklin County public schools.
After moving to Philadelphia in 1941, she worked and retired as dietitian for the Pennsylvania Hospital. Her post-retirement work was with the Foster Grandmother program, and she worked with children with special needs.
She joined the Ebenezer Kodesh Emmanuel Church in Philadelphia.
Surviving are two sons, Claude Alston of the Bronx, N.Y., and Edward Williams of Philadelphia; a stepmother, Olivia Lemonz of Henderson; a stepbrother, William Henry of Paterson, N.J.; a stepsister, Mary Toppin of Henderson; a stepdaughter, Mary A. Williams of Pottstown, Pa.; five granddaughters; one step-grandson; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday at Sandy Grove Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Charles Thompson.
The body will be at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service with viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
Arrangements are by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Sharon Louise Jenkins Hamlett

DURHAM -- “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time for my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Timothy 4:6,7
Surrounded by her family, friends and her dog, “Mollie,” Sharon Louise Jenkins Hamlett departed this world December 13, 2001, at 11:25 a.m. “Sheri” was born in Greenville, N.C., on July 8, 1967, and died peacefully at her home in Durham after a courageous fight with cancer.
A ray of sunshine was taken from this world on that day. Sheri worked as a flight attendant for Midway Airlines and most recently was assistant manager for the Dish Doctor Inc. in Durham.
She is survived by her loving and caring husband, Mark Hunter Hamlett; her mother, Elberta Kidd Jones of Henderson; and her father, Rufus Edward Jenkins and his wife, Martha Jenkins, of Chapel Hill. She is also survived by her sister Lisa Jenkins Richardson and her husband, Gerald Wayne Richardson Jr., and sisters Kimberly Korin Jenkins and Mary Nell Jenkins; and beloved nephew and nieces, Gerald Wayne “Travin” Richardson III, Ann Louise Margaret “Margo” Richardson and Elle Laine “Ellie” Richardson, all of Chapel Hill.
Other surviving family members are Sheri’s grandfather Col. Elbert Kidd and his wife, Marge, of Montgomery, Alabama; uncles William Robert “BJ” Jenkins, Joseph Jenkins, Ronald Kidd; and aunts Joyce Jenkins Swindell and Francis Kidd Weaver; and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Doris Kidd and Rufus and Margaret Jenkins, and uncle Troy Swindell.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church on Trinity Avenue in Durham on December 16, 2001, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UNC Lineberger Center, Triangle Hospice or Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, N.C.

John E. Hargrove

MACON -- John “Bro” Edward Hargrove, 58, of Macon died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton. The Rev. Lawrence Harrison will officiate.
Surviving are his wife, Priscilla Jiggetts Hargrove; seven sons, William Jiggetts and John Jr., Lee, Donnell, Kenneth, Jacob and George Hargrove; five daughters, Joanna, Annie and Rosa Hargrove, Mary Carter, and Nellie Jiggetts, all of Warrenton; 36 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his father, John Eaton of Warrenton; and three sisters, Alice Hargrove, Elizabeth Bullock and Elnora Jiggetts, all of Warrenton.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Isobel O. Greene

OXFORD -- Isobel O’Brien Greene, 81, of 5407 Hicksboro Road died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Oxford Manor. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Jucious G. and Jessie Leigh Satterwhite O’Brien.
She was a member of Dexter Baptist Church, a former employee of Leggetts Department Store in Henderson and a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Dexter Baptist Church by the Rev. Neil Woodlief. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Stephen W. Greene; her daughters, Brenda G. Baker of Davidson and Judith G. Gregory of Evans, Ga.; her sister, Gertrude O. Harris of Henderson; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Michael Greene.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to Dexter Baptist Church, c/o Jerry Faulkner, 6078 Hicksboro Road, Oxford, N.C. 27565.

Ella M. Kelley

HENDERSON -- Ella M. Kelley, 91, of 96 Allen Kelley Road died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at his residence after an extended illness.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Service.

Reynold Gill Parks Jr.

HENDERSON -- Reynold Gill Parks Jr., age 51, a resident of 604 Gillburg Road, died Friday night at his home. He was a native of Vance Co. and was the son of Rosalie Stainback Parks of Henderson and the late Reynold Gill Parks Sr. He was a self-employed farmer and was a member of the Gillburg United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Milton Abbott and Mark Winstead. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Roxianne Moore Parks of the home; two sons, Reynold Gill “Reggie” Parks III and wife Kristie and Brandon Wayne Parks, both of Gillburg; one daughter, Jeannie P. Yount and husband Bryan of Townsville; one sister, Betty Rose McDade and husband Buster of Gillburg; one brother, Henry T. Parks and wife Dianne of Gillburg; and two grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Parks and Jake Parks.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Carson Ellis Jr., Bobby Brummitt, David Brummitt, Butch Brummitt, Thomas Satterwhite and James Malcom Elmore.

Keith T. West Sr.

HENDERSON -- Keith Tucker West Sr., 46, of 570 St. Andrews Church Road died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center. A native of Vance County, he was the son of Alton Tucker and Rebecca Owen West of Henderson and was a self-employed mechanic.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home
Chapel by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sons, Keith Tucker West Jr., Brian Thomas West and Sherman Eugene West, all of Henderson; two brothers, Alton Dale West and Carl Leonard West of Henderson; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon before the service from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Rebecca and Alton West, 570 St. Andrews Church Road.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Roger Owen, Michael Owen, Warren West, Robert West, Carl Breedlove, Thomas Hunt, David Brantley and Joey West.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Ronald W. Bowling

OXFORD -- Ronald “Moody” Wayne Bowling, 29, of 10834 Oxford Hwy. 158, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was a Person County native and the son of E.V. and Paula Sheppard Bowling.
He was a welder.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Floyd Jackson. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a daughter, Brittany Bowling of Providence; a son, Dylan Bowling of Providence; a brother, Tony Bowling of Rougemont; and a grandmother, Betty Lou Bowling of Oxford.
Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of his parents, 5552 Collie Jones Road, Rougemont, N.C. 27572.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.

Eunice Fields

WARRENTON -- Eunice Fields, 85, of Hwy. 1001 in Vance County, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Woodrow Fisher Jr.

HENDERSON -- Woodrow Fisher Jr., 52, of 350 Plum Nutty Road, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Allie G. Lunsford

STEM -- Allie Gentry Lunsford, 91, of 108 Old Hwy. 75, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at her home. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late K.D. and Ludie Regan Gentry. She was the widow of Floyd T. Lunsford.
She was a member of Stem United Methodist Church, retired from John Umstead Hospital in 1975 and a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Revs. Grace Dill and Jim Bailey. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.
Surviving are her daughters, Betty L. Wilkerson of Oxford, Ludie Lunsford of Durham, Peggy L. Evans of Southern Pines, Lucy L. Griffin of Creedmoor; her son, William Thomas Lunsford of Stem; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy L. Hart, seven sisters and two brothers.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Stem United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 10, Stem, N.C. 27581 or to Granville County Hospice, 123 Belle St., Oxford, N.C. 27565.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Dr. R. David Noel

OXFORD -- Dr. R. David Noel, 76, of 109 Forest Road, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at his residence. He was a native of Farmville, Va.
He was a member of Oxford Baptist Church, a former deacon and served on numerous other committees. He attended Hampden-Sydney College, Medical College of Virginia and Medical College of Georgia. He was chief surgeon at Granville Hospital for 34 years. He was active in Boys Scouts, United Way, and was athletic doctor for Oxford High School and J.F. Webb High School for many years. He was active for many years in the Granville Co. Life Saving & Rescue Squad, Inc. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Ernest F. Hart Post #90.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Oxford Baptist Church by Dr. J. Steven Bolton and the Rev. Pat Cox. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Brewer Noel of the home; five sons, R. David Noel Jr. of Raleigh, James Daniel Noel of Chicago, Christopher D. Noel of Oxford, W. Patrick Noel of Oxford and Michael Q. Noel of Miami, Fla.; one sister, Ernestine N. Timberlake of Farmville, Va.; three stepsons, Charles Hart Brewer III of Raleigh, Richard Taylor Brewer of Hillsborough and Christopher Kimball Brewer of Raleigh; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia D. Noel.
The family requested omission of flowers. Memorials may be made to Oxford Baptist Church, P.O. Box 398, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
The family received visitors from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.

Ruby G. Roberson

HENDESON -- Ruby Grissom Roberson, age 89, a resident of 1113 Edwards Street, died Saturday night at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Vance County, daughter of the late Richard N. and Carrie Clopton Grissom, and widow of Melvin Dorsey Roberson.
She was the oldest living member of South Henderson Church Of God.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at South Henderson Church Of God by the Rev. Gary Harper and the Rev. Ricky Easter. Burial will follow in the Union Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.
She is survived by three sons, James Nelson Roberson, William "Dickie" Roberson, and Melvin Thomas Roberson all of Henderson; one sister, Jewel Freeman of Henderson; two brothers, Richard Nelson Grissom of Henderson and Billy Grissom of Oregon; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 7 until 8:30 P.M. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of James Nelson and Virginia Roberson at 1440 Parker Lane.
Serving as active pallbearers will be James Edwards, Charles Thompson, C.W. West, Rodney Inscoe, Larry West, and Jimmy Edwards.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be her grandsons.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the South Henderson Church of God, 125 J. P. Taylor Road, Henderson, N.C. 27537 or to the Victory Baptist Church, 475 J. P. Taylor Road, Henderson, N.C. 27537.

Beulah Clopton Roberts

HENDERSON -- Beulah Clopton Roberts, age 77, a resident of 523 S.Cooper Drive, Apt. 23, died Monday morning at Granville Medical Center. She was a native of Johnston County, daughter of the late Ashley B. and Molly Wallace Clopton, and the widow of William Earl Roberts.
She was the owner and operator of the former Beulah’s Beauty Shop and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Dianne Roberts Tuck and husband Percy “J.R.” of Henderson; one brother, Vid Clopton of Williamsburg, Virginia; two grandchildren, Teresa S. Shearin and William “Billy” Robinson; and two great grandchildren, Brandon Ayscue and Casie Finch.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Gardens by the Rev.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Dianne and Percy Tuck at 195 Walter Bowen Road, Henderson.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Ted Ayscue, Webb Miller, James Mason, Bill Wilkins, Ben Robinson, and Donnie Stainback.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Brenda K. Short

ARLINGTON, VA. -- Brenda Kay Short, 41, of Arlington, Va., and formerly of Nelson, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at VA Arlington Hospital Center in Arlington, Va. She was born in Mecklenburg County, Va., and the daughter of the late Junious and Cora Mae Finley Short.
She attended Granville County Public Schools. She was a member of Wharton Memorial Baptist Church in Nelson, Va., and was employed as a home care worker by Arlington County.
Surviving are one daughter, Trina Short of Roxboro; three sisters, Claudine Royster of Oxford, Claudette Robinson of Arlington, Va., and Jeanette Short of Durham; three brothers, Edward Short of Arlington, Va., Donald Short of Manassas, Va., and Ralph Short of Oxford; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wharton Memorial Baptist Church in Nelson, Va., by the Rev. James A. Hudson Jr. Burial will follow in Wharton Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clarksville, Va.

John N. Short

WARRENTON -- John Noel Short, 85, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Henderson. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Noel Johnson Short and Delia Bottoms Short.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen G. Short, and a son, John “Joe” Wallace Short.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reedy Creek Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Dudley Neal.
Surviving are five daughters, Gladys Short Whaley and Jackie S. Simpson, both of Warrenton, Martha S. Batchelor of Nashville, Nancy S. Lamm of Rocky Mount and Julia S. Loyd of Henderson; two sisters, Mildred of Florida and Eva Thompson of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Sylvia K. Brandt

HENDERSON -- Sylvia K. Brandt, 90, of Britthaven Nursing Facility of Louisburg died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Franklin Regional Medical Center. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Solomon and Letha Dale Kearney.
She was a member of Coley Springs Baptist Church, where the funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today by the Rev. Carson F. Jones Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
She was the widow of Zollie Brandt Sr.
She is survived by six daughters, Fannie B. Montague, Mary Davis, Martha Allen, Lena Fields, Betty Brandt and Betty Black; two sons, Willie A. Brandt and Junious Brandt; one foster son, Henry Terry; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home of Lena Fields, 100 Southerland Mill Road, Henderson.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Floral bearers will be granddaughters.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Lee Thomas Dunston, 48, of Washington, a Franklin County native, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in Washington.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Home.
