Woodrow Fisher Jr.

HENDERSON -- Woodrow Fisher Jr., 52, of 350 Plum Nutty Road died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001. He was a Vance County native and the son of Woodrow Fisher Sr. and Beulah Thomas Fisher.
He attended the Vance County public schools and joined Antioch United Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodsworth Baptist Church by Bishop Marshall T. Henderson. Burial will follow in the Antioch United Church of Christ cemetery.
Surviving are three sons, Keith Fisher, Toby Fisher and Tony Fisher, all of Henderson; one daughter, Jacqueline Baskerville of Henderson; two brothers, Larry Fisher of Columbus, S.C., and Calvin Fisher of Newark, N.J.; six sisters, Thelma Cobert of Townsville, Glendora Yancey, Ernestine Henderson, Elizabeth Plummer and Vanette Dunston, all of Henderson, and Mary Lizzie Terry of Clacksville, Va.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 350 Plum Nutty Road.
The body will be on view at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until being taken to the church to lie in state one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Ella Kelley

HENDERSON -- Ella Kelley, 94, of 96 Allen Kelley Road died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Home.

Mattie N. McGarr

OXFORD -- Mattie N. McGarr, 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001. She was a Granville county native and the daughter of the late Roger A. and Ninnie Cox Newton.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Greg Allison. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are one brother, Paul Newton of Durham; five sisters, Macie N. McGarr of Creedmoor, Lena N. West, Mildred N. Elliott and Ruby N. Wright, all of Oxford, and Louise Burney of High Point.
Visitation for the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of Tommy and Ruby Wright, 109 Holly Drive, Oxford.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Willie L. Perry

HENDERSON -- Willie L. Perry, 80, of 1655 Gun Club Road died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Ethel J. Pittman

TARBORO -- Ethel Jones Pittman, 87, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001.
She taught in the Edgecombe County school system for 28 years, teaching at Speed, Whitakers and Leggett.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carlisle Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery in Leggett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard T. Pittman Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Wendy Pittman Stevens of Sumter, S.C., and Ann Pittman Wilson of Franklin County; one son, Richard T. Pittman III of Garner; two sisters, Curtis Norman of Norfolk and Willie Peace of High Point; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Carlisle Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home of Tarboro.

Jimmie Silvers Sr.

LOUISBURG -- Jimmie Silvers Sr., 72, of Louisburg died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at home.
Arrangements will be announced by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Maude Monds Tucker

HENDERSON -- Mrs. Maude Monds Tucker, age 94, a lifelong resident of Hertford, N.C., died Monday, December 17, 2001, in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 20, 2001, at 11 a.m. in Elmwood cemetery in Hertford, N.C.
She was the widow of G. Reginald Tucker Sr. and was a very active member of the Hertford Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. G. Reginald Tucker Jr. and wife Maude of Emerald Isle, N.C., and Dr. W. Beverly Tucker and wife Anne of Henderson; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night, December 19, 2001, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Swindell Funeral Home in Hertford and also at a reception on Thursday, December 20, 2001, in the Fellowship Hall of the Hertford Baptist Church immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hertford Baptist Church, Hertford, N.C. 27944.
Arrangements are being handled by the Swindell Funeral Home of Hertford.

Jose C. Argil

LOUISBURG -- Funeral services for Jose Calamaco Argil, 74, who died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, will be held at noon Saturday at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church-Mount Carmel. Burial will follow in the Mary H. Jones cemetery in Louisburg.
There will be wake services from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg.
Arrangements are by Richardson Funeral Home of Louisburg.

Eunice Fields

WARRENTON -- Eunice Fields, 85, of Highway 1001 in Vance County died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton. The Rev. Shirley Turrentine will officiate. Burial will follow in the Elmwood cemetery in Henderson.
Surviving are one son, Tracey Fields of Henderson; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton until the hour of the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Elnora M. Kelley

HENDERSON -- Elnora “Ella” Mayo Kelley, 94, of 96 Allen Kelley Road died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at her residence. She was a Franklin County native and the daughter of the late Perry and Betty Perry Mayo. She was the widow of Allen Kelley.
She was a member of Sandy Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir and gospel choir and served as missionary.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Sandy Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Thompson and ministers Linda Foster and Tina Leary. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving is one daughter, Alice M. Williams of the home.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers will be Wenton Bennett, William Bennett, Charlie Alston, William M. Bennett, Joe Brandon and Horace Alston.
Floral bearers will be Sally Alston, Laverne Williams, Davida Alston, Charlotte Solomon, Berthine Kirkland and Dorothy Peace.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Sula P. McGhee

OXFORD -- Sula Puryear McGhee, 86, of N.C. 96 North died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Oxford Manor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Huntsville Baptist Church by the Rev. R.N. Holloway. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving is one son, Cassius Alonzo McGhee of Plainfield, N.J.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

George D. Morton III

OXFORD -- George Daniel “Dan” Morton III, 41, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late George D. Morton Jr. and Lucy Thorp Morton.
She was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He was owner of Morton Logging Co.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Graham Royall. Burial will follow in Tranquility cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Marty Davis Morton; one daughter, Blair Taylor Morton, and two sons, Ross D. Morton and Clark David Morton, all of the home; one sister, Martha E. Morton of Durham; and one brother, Tom Morton of Oxford.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 434 Fayetteville Mall, 2 Hanover Square, Suite 1600, Raleigh, N.C. 27601, or to Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 1671 Sunset Road, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Jane T. Morton, 1589 Sunset Road, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Willie L. Perry

HENDERSON -- Willie Lee Perry, 80, of 1655 Gun Club Road died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native.
He was a retired farmer and a former employee of Harriet & Henderson Cotton Mill. He was a member of Michael Creek Baptist Church in Granville County.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Michael Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Epps. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are seven daughters, Clara Whittington of Fayetteville, Emma Townsend, Brenda Hansley, Gracie Perry, Deborah King, Mary Perry and Jacquelyn Burton, all of Henderson; four sons, Willie Junious Perry, James Perry, Roy Perry and Kevin Perry, all of Henderson; three sisters, Dorothy Rhodes, Zenobia Henderson and Sallie Allen, all of Henderson; one brother, James Perry of Fayetteville; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

John H. Gentry
Enzelo J. Gentry

HENDERSON -- Infant twins John Henry and Enzelo James Gentry died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Maria Parham Hospital. They were the sons of Tamara Paul and Darryl Gentry Sr.
Surviving are their siblings, Takeemea Gentry, Darryl Gentry Jr. and Kjuan Gentry, all of Henderson; their paternal grandparents, Charles and Lucy Smith of Henderson; and their maternal grandmother, Kitty Paul of Newark, N.J.
Private graveside services were held at Blacknall cemetery.
Arrangements were by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Jimmie Silvers Sr.

LOUISBURG -- Jimmie Silvers Sr., 72, of Louisburg died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church in the Inez community in Warrenton. The Rev. John Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Betty A. Silvers; eight daughters, Shirley Peace, Gloria A. Seward and Lenora Silvers, all of Henderson, Anita A. Silvers of Snow Hill, Shelia Brodie and Lahoma Silvers, both of Raleigh, and Andera Silvers and Alicia Silvers, both of Louisburg; two sons, Jimmie Silvers Jr. of Henderson and Jammie Silvers of Louisburg; one sister, Diane Foster of Louisburg; four brothers, Bryant Foster, Sam Foster, Joe Foster and Doug Arrington, all of Louisburg; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Boyd’s Funeral Chapel in Warrenton.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Raymond P. Johnson

BURLINGTON -- Raymond P. “R.P.” Johnson of Burlington died after a weeklong illness Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Chatham County, the son of the late Jesse L. Johnson and Eleanor Pugh Johnson.
A member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church, he was an Army veteran of World War II. He attended Campbell University, Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church by pastor Tommy Willis and the Rev. Derik Davis. Burial will be in the Center United Methodist Church cemetery.
He is survived by a sister, Effie Johnson of Pittsboro, and four brothers, Hurley Johnson of Morganton, the Rev. Jesse L. Johnson Jr. of Charlotte, Clyde Johnson of Siler City and Frank Reid Johnson of Greensboro.
The family received friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at other times at the residence of his sister, Effie Johnson, 5227 Castlerock Farm Road, Pittsboro.

Almeta Mayfield

WARRENTON -- Almeta Mayfield, formerly of Warren County, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, in Virginia.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home in Warrenton.

Addie M. Moore

OXFORD -- Addie Mable Moore, 86, of Stamford, Conn., died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, in Norwalk Hospital.
She was a native of Granville County, the daughter of the late William Moore and Ida Suitt Moore. She was the widow of John Henry Moore.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Wright Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
She is survived by four sons, Willie Moore of Norwalk, Conn., James Moore of Henderson, Larry Moore of Bridgeport, Conn., and Barry Moore of New Castle, Del.; four daughters, Pearline Moore of Stamford, Flossine Hodges of Bridgeport, and Norma Bell and Joyce Smith, both of Norwalk; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors one hour before the services at Wright Funeral Home.

Elsie C. Barden

FUQUAY-VARINA -- Elsie Carpenter Barden, 90, of Windsor Point died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001. She was a Warren County native.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Thomas Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens.
She grew up in the Lowes Grove community of Durham. She graduated from Duke University with a degree in education. After graduating from college, she taught school in several counties in North Carolina before permanently locating in Henderson, where she lived for 40 years and taught school for 20 years. She retired from teaching and moved with her husband to Fuquay-Varina in 1991. She lived there until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Hugh D. Barden, in 1998.
Surviving are her daughter, Effie B. Carroll of Holly Springs; a son, Hugh Vann Barden of Nags Head; four sisters, Virginia C. Church of Burlington, Cleo C. Simmons of Winton, Pauline C. McLaughlin of Wilmington and Madge C. Carmichael of Burlington; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Thomas Funeral Home and other times at the home of Effie and Leon Carroll, 7154 Cokesbury Road, Holly Springs.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
Arrangements are by Thomas Funeral Home of Fuquay-Varina.

Doris J. Bullock

VAUGHAN -- Doris Jean Bullock, 49, of Vaughan died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Arrangements will be announced by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.
