Lee T. Henderson

OXFORD -- Lee Toney Henderson, 70, of 500 Salem Road died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Granville Medical Center.
He was a retired employee of John Umstead Hospital, a former employee of the Granville County Department of Social Services and a graduate of Mary Potter Academy. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Revs. Ray Allsberry and Mack Timberlake Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Edmonds Henderson; his mother, Dinah Allen Henderson of Oxford; two brothers, Eugene Henderson Jr. and Robert Henderson, both of Oxford; and one sister, Nuevelle Hilliard of Oxford.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home.

Virginia B. Morrison

WARREN COUNTY -- Virginia Burnette Morrison, 79, formerly of Warren County, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Oine by the Rev. Rosa Paschall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Morrison of Pennsylvania; 10 sisters, Andrea Green of Warrenton, Carmen Long and Liz Florence of Durham, Agretta Ball of Upper Marlboro, Md., Carolyn Hawkins and Naomi Powell, both of Mitchellville, Md., Marion Wadley of Philadelphia, Gloria Russell of Uniondale, N.Y., Candace Carter of Trevose, Pa., and Gladys Harper of Bensalem, Pa.; and three brothers, Alvis Burnette of Wayne, Pa., John Burnette of Philadelphia, and Jerry Burnette of Norristown, Pa.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

David S. Pulley

HENDERSON -- David Samuel “Sambo” Pulley of 301 South Lake Lodge Road died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

John Richardson

WARREN COUNTY -- John Richardson, 73, formerly of Warren County, died Jan. 30, 2002, in New York.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Edith S. Talley

NORLINA -- Edith Shaw Talley of Norlina died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Vivian P. Eaton

HENDERSON -- Vivian Perry Eaton, 80, of 429 Hamilton St. died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Franklin County native and the daughter of the late Florence Perry Ward and Maurice Blacknall.
She attended Franklin County public schools and was a member of Redbud Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Missionary Circle and Pastor’s Aid Club.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Redbud Baptist Church by Dr. J.E. Hall. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are her husband, Herbert L. Eaton; two sons, William Closs Jr. of Newark, N.J., and John Earl Closs of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers will be members of the trustee board. Floral bearers will be the Missionary Circle.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

David S. Pulley

HENDERSON -- David Samuel “Sambo” Pulley, age 75, a resident of 301 South Lake Lodge Road, and a former resident of 1014 Victory St., died Wednesday afternoon at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a native of Vance Co. and was the son of the late Charles Watkins and Bessie Davis Pulley. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II and was a retired Physical Therapist from John Umstead Hospital. A member of the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, he served as a Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School, a Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the Men’s Fellowship and the Men’s Bible Class.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon and the Rev. Rob Keffer. Entombment will follow at Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Irish Rose Parrish Pulley of the home; one son, Jasper Dwight Pulley, and wife, Faye, of Henderson; and two grandchildren, Chad Dwight Pulley and Shannon Rene Pulley, both of Henderson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vera Davidson, and five brothers, Jasper Pulley, Tom Pulley, Stanley Pulley, Douglas Pulley and James Pulley.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jerry Patterson, Lou Pearce, Ronnie Lassiter, Billy Davidson, Jack Pernell, Steve Pernell, Scott Pernell, Morris Batten, Ray Liles and W.T. Pulley.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Bible Class of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2286, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
The family will receive friends at the home at 301 South Lake Lodge Road.
Arrangements are being handled by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

John Richardson

WARREN COUNTY -- John Richardson, 73, formerly of Warren County, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in New York.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at R.H. Greene Funeral Home Chapel in Warrenton by the Rev. A.A. Brown. Burial will follow in the Richardson family cemetery.
Surviving are one brother, Otis M. Richardson of Warrenton; and four sisters, Pearl R. Jones and Irene Richardson, both of New York, Beatrice R. Jones of Laurel, Md., and Louise R. Burnette of Warrenton.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Frances H. Shepherd

HENDERSON -- Frances Harris Shepherd of 1630 Oxford Road died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late John Robert and Sallie Sneed Harris. She was the widow of Samuel Forest Shepherd.
She was a retired bank teller. She was a lifelong member of Island Creek Baptist Church.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Island Creek Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Joe Bostic.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Island Creek Baptist Church, cemetery Fund, 950 Stagecoach Road, Henderson, N.C. 27537, or to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Bennie A. Solomon

HENDERSON -- Bennie Allen Solomon, 68, of 158 Bullock St. died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Bennie and Pattie Thorpe Solomon.
He was a commercial truck driver for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Baptist Church by the Rev. Daniel W. Lilley Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann McCutchen Solomon; four daughters, Lizzie Russell, Joann Greene, Lorraine Stewart and Dianne Durant; two sons, Bennie Junior Brown and Ernest McCutchen; three sisters, Bernice Kearney and Christine Lacewell, both of Henderson, and Betty Jean Lewis of Newark, N.J.; one brother, Arthur Lee Solomon of Newark; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Corliss A. Williams

WARRENTON -- Corliss Annette Williams, 43, of West Berline, N.J., formerly of Warrenton, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, in West Berline.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Level United Church of Christ in Manson by the Rev. Leon White, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Nittikki Alston of Charlotte and Drakeya Ricks of Middleburg, Fla.; one granddaughter; her mother, Mable Williams of Warrenton; and two brothers, Dwight Elam of Henderson and Vance Williams of Warrenton.
The body will be on view this morning at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel until being taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

William R. Allen Sr.
HENDERSON -- William Reed “The Shoeshine Man” Allen Sr., 57, of 919 Pinkston St. died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham. He was the son of the late John Edward Allen and Geneva Henderson Allen.
He was a former employee of Harriet & Henderson Yarns and a veteran.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Melvin Solomon. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are one son, William R. Allen II of Henderson; two sisters, Rachael A. Daye of the home and Diane A. Bullock of Kittrell; one stepdaughter, and one stepgrandchild.
The family will receive visitors at the residence.
The body lay in state from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Olive Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, c/o Rachel Day, 919 Pinkston St., Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

Herbert L. Bullock Sr.

HENDERSON -- Herbert Lee Bullock Sr., 60, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Ollie and Carrie Henderson Bullock.
At an early age, he joined the Oak Level United Church of Christ in Manson and attended Vance County Public Schools.
Surviving are one son, Herbert Bullock Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters, Louwanda G. Williams of Raleigh and Mary Lillie Bullock of Henderson; two sisters, Celara Durham of Roselle, N.J., and Thelma Morgan of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, Phillip Bullock of Washington, D.C., David Bullock of Richmond, Va., and Len Bullock of Rocky Mount; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Level United Church of Christ by the Rev. Leon White. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.
Pallbearers will be nephews. Floralbearers will be nieces.
The procession will leave from E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.

Clara M.G. Hawkins

HENDERSON -- Clara Mae Glover Hawkins, of 280 Beckford Drive, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Maria Parham Hospital following a lengthy illness.
The family will be at 801 Fred Royster Road.
Arrangements will be announced later by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Ruth F. Piper

OXFORD -- Ruth Frazier Piper, 88, of 605 Williamsboro St., died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Brantwood Nursing Center. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Henry E. and Martha Eakes Frazier. She was the widow of Carl H. Piper Jr.
She was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church and was retired from Granville Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by Dr. Steve Bolton. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Steve D. Piper of Greenville and Charles T. Piper of Oxford; and four grandchildren.
Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Oxford Baptist Church General Fund, P.O. Box 398, Oxford, N.C. 27565.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of Charles and Linda Piper, 4677 Dorsey Road, Oxford, N.C. 27565.

Samuel U. Young II

HENDERSON -- Samuel Unray Young II, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Duke Medical Center.
Private services will be held.

John K. Clifford Sr.

OXFORD -- John Knight Clifford Sr., 83, of 4582 J.G. Morgan Road, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Meadowview Terrace Nursing Home in Clarksville, Va. He was a Granville County native and the son of the late S.W. and Annie Keeton Clifford.
He was a member of Marrow’s Chapel United Methodist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving in World War II, a retired farmer and textile worker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Marrow’s Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Crabtree. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Edna Newby Clifford of the home; two daughters, Bonnie C. Hobgood of Bullock and Judy C. Brewer of Oxford; a son, John Clifford Jr. of Oxford; and five grandchildren.
Visitation was conducted from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home Inc.

Samuel Hargrove

HENDERSON -- Samuel Hargrove, 87, of 1313 County Line Road, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Maria Parham Hospital.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Mrs. Pauline B. Long

HENDERSON -- Mrs. Pauline Boone Long, daughter of the late James M. and Charlotte Moore Boone, was born in Greensboro, N.C., on December 11, 1912, and departed this earthly life Tuesday, January 29, 2002, in Henderson, N.C., at the home of her grandson, Reginald Noble.
She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she was a member of Missionary Circle Group #2, Ruby Lee Phillips Fellowship Club, past president of Zelmore Headen Helping Hand Club, Southeast Wing Group No. 2, and founding member of the Floral Club, created under the leadership of Rev. J.T. Hairston.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 4, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Park.
Left to cherish fond memories are grandsons, Fred M. Noble, Jr., of California, Maurice Noble of Durham, N.C., and Reginald Noble and wife, Katherine, of Henderson; great-granddaughter, Ms. Amy Noble of Henderson; one brother, James M. Boone, Jr., of Greensboro; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends.
Visitation will be on Monday at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service. At other times, the family will be at 516 W. Florida St., Greensboro, N.C.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, 1210 Eugene St., Greensboro, N.C. 27406.

Pauline P. Warnock

OXFORD -- Pauline Page Warnock, 86, of 1038 College St., died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Brantwood Nursing and Retirement Center in Oxford. She was a native of Soperton, Ga., and the daughter of the late Henry L. and Lincie Bridges Page. She was the widow of Delmar D. Warnock.
She was of the Baptist faith and lived most of her life in Savannah, Ga., before moving to Oxford six years ago.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Sammons Funeral Home Chapel in Soperton, Ga., by Dr. William P. Warnock Sr., and the Rev. William P. Warnock Jr. Burial will follow in Westview cemetery in Soperton, Ga.
Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Ronald G. Warnock of Louisville and Dr. William P. Warnock Sr. of Savannah; one daughter, Paula W. Archer of Oxford; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruby Heath of Soperton, Ga.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton, Ga.
Local arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.
