Elizabeth H. Elliott

OXFORD -- Elizabeth Haskins Elliott, 93, of 1103 College St., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Oxford Manor. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late James and Lillie Minor Haskins. She was the widower of Bailey P. Elliott.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Chapel by Dr. J. Steven Bolton and the Rev. B. Patrick Cox. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Surviving is one sister, Ellie Fowler of Creedmoor.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of her niece, Lynette Totten, 510 Lake Road in Creedmoor. Cards may be mailed to: P.O. Box 185, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Active pallbearers will be Joe Elliott, Bobby Haskins, Bill Forte, Wayne Aiken, S.G. Elliott and Hugh B. Haskins. Honorary pallbearers will be G.W. McDowell, Fred Myers, Jimmy Curl, Curtis Hobbs, Sammy Elliott and Ray Elliott.
Arrangements are by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford.

Samuel Hargrove

HENDERSON -- Samuel Hargrove, 87, of 1313 County Line Road, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Maria Parham Hospital. He was a Vance County native.
He was a member of Townsville Masonic Lodge No. 488 and Antioch United Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch United Church of Christ by the Rev. Barry Hargrove and Minister Tina Evans. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are four daughters, Valerie Wimbush of Henderson, Jacqueline Grate of Raleigh, Mary Stimage and Patricia Richburg, both of East Orange, N.J.; four sons, Bernard Hargrove of East Orange, N.J., Samuel Howard Hargrove of River Dale, Ga., Dwight Hargrove of Henderson and Corey Hargrove of Sayreville, N.J.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home in Henderson.
Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home Inc.

Clara M.H. Hawkins

HENDERSON -- Clara Mae Hester Hawkins, 59, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002. She was a native of Henderson and the daughter of the late Sam and Thelma Lewis Glover.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Clarence LeMay.
Surviving are two sons, Jamie Hester of Henderson and Carl Hawkins of Edgeville; two daughters, Delores and Clarise of Henderson; two brothers, Sam Glover Jr. and James H. Glover of Henderson; six sisters, Irene Wright, Annie Gregory and Patricia Marrow, all of Henderson, Eula Mae Floyd and Susie Wade of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mary Warren of Greensboro; and 14 grandchildren.
The body may be viewed until 7:30 p.m. today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.
The family will be at 801 Fred Royster Road.

Richard L. Jenks

HENDERSON -- Richard Louis Jenks, 74, of 1334 Pine St., Henderson, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in Duke University Medical Center in Durham. He was a Vance County native and the son of the late Willie Elton and Rosa Ayscue Jenks.
He was a retired employee of Clayton Homes Manufacturing Inc., a veteran of the United States Navy and attended North Henderson Church of God. An avid fisherman, he was widely known as one of the best ever to fish on Kerr Lake.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Charles Ray Anderson. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Mangum Jenks; a son, R. Dennis Jenks of Raleigh; two sisters, Elizabeth J. Orr and Delilah J. Crabtree, both of Henderson; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Wade Ayscue, Ronnie Allen, Wade Abbott, J.H. Hamm, Dennis Edwards, Tim Medlin, Buck Stallings and Donnie Yarborough.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Geraldine Sims-Williams

WARRENTON -- Geraldine Sims-Williams, 51, of East Orange, N.J., formerly of Warrenton, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 in New Jersey.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Service of Warrenton.

Theodore Watson

WARRENTON -- Theodore Watson, 50, of Warrenton, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at his residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Service of Warrenton.

Alma S. Weaver

OXFORD -- Alma Sadler Weaver, 88, of Manassas, Va., died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at her residence.
She studied at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was a retired nurse of Hermitage Nursing Home in Alexandria, Va., where she worked for 25 years. She lived in the Northern Virginia area for over 70 years. She was a charter member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Arlington, Va.
Surviving are one son, William C. Weaver of Santa Rose, Calif.; one daughter, Pamela R. Jackson of Haymarket, Va.; one sister, Pattie Mae Sadler; five brothers, John Ed, Carlton, Edward, Fred and Hubert Sadler; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Weaver, and a daughter, Maysel W. Feaganes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Don Brown. Burial will be in Herman United Methodist Church in Vance County.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral service at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.
Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home Inc.

Farris S. Averette

OXFORD -- Farris Sadler Averette, 85, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Oxford Manor. She was a Granville County native and the daughter of the late Thomas G. and Blanche Wagstaff Sadler. She was the widow of Hazel G. Averette.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Elmwood cemetery by the Rev. L. Jack Glasgow Jr.
Surviving are one daughter, Sybil A. Lloyd of Oxford; one brother, Marvin Sadler of Wilton; five grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, W.G. Averette.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at the home of her daughter, 213 Grove St. in Oxford.
Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to Harold Sherman Adult Day Center, P.O. Box 1006, Oxford, N.C. 27565.

Sallie W. Baskerville

HENDERSON -- Sallie Beatrice White Baskerville, the daughter of the late Peter and Marinda Henderson White, was born May 28, 1914, in Vance County, North Carolina.
She entered peacefully into eternal rest on Monday morning, February 4, 2002, at her residence.
At an early age, she became a member of the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until her health began to decline.
She was married to the late Charlie Baskerville. For more than 50 years, they owned and operated the Blue Bird Inn Store on Satterwhite Point Road, which served the needs of their neighbors and was a must stop for those going to the lake from Durham, Raleigh and surrounding areas. In addition to the convenience, the store was a place to visit and socialize. Remembered will be the kindness and generosity shown to all visitors and patrons. Mrs. Baskerville thoroughly enjoyed her work in the store.
She was a woman of small stature with great inner strength and will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who was a friend to all. Most memorable will be her gentle and pleasant smile.
Those who will cherish her memory the most are her daughter, Maxine Baskerville of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a niece, Lucinda Baskerville of the home; four sons, Charlie Baskerville Jr. of Baltimore, Md., Alexander, Leslie and Randolph Baskerville, all of Henderson, N.C.; one brother, Eddie White of Manson, N.C.; daughters-in-law Vera, Carolyn, Kathy and Sarah Baskerville; sisters-in-law Carol White and Esther White; loving grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard M. Henderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive visitors Thursday from 7 until 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home of Henderson.

Mattie Hargrove

HENDERSON -- Mattie Hargrove, 73, of the Williamsboro community died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002.
Arrangements will be announced by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Robert E. Hargrove Sr.

HENDERSON -- Robert Edward Hargrove Sr., 83, of 741 Warren Bullock Road died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at his home.
The family will be at the residence.
Arrangements are by E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

Eddie L. Harris

HENDERSON -- Eddie Lee Harris, 63, of 3360 Oxford Road died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002.
Arrangements will be announced by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Leona B. Smith

HENDERSON -- Leona Brown Smith, 85, of 1536 Raleigh Road died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002.
Arrangements will be announced by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Theodore Watson

WARRENTON -- Theodore “COC” Watson, 50, of Warrenton died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Baptist Church in Warrenton by the Rev. Eddie W. Lawrence, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Wilhemina Joyner Watson; one daughter, Crystal Watson of the home; two grandchildren; his mother, Elizabeth Jones Watson of Warrenton; three sisters, Barbara Watson-Williams of Warrenton, Carolyn Watson-Laster of Littleton and Hazel P. Richardson of Norlina; and four brothers, Henry Lee Watson of Whitakers, Donnell Watson and Charles Watson, both of Soul City, and David Watson of Manson.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton until being taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Sadie M. Biggs
HENDERSON -- Sadie “Cokie” Montgomery Biggs, 61, of 435 Salt and Light Lane died Thursday night, march 7, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Robert and Mable Williamson Montgomery. She was an avid bingo player.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel
by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond C. Biggs of Britthaven Nursing Home in Louisburg; one daughter, Vanessa B. Williamson of Henderson; two sons, Raymond Charles Biggs Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Timothy Montgomery of Henderson; two sisters, Elizabeth Brantley and Nezzie “Dinky” Ramsey, both of Henderson; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White
Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Donald Williamson Sr., David Brantley, Carl Breedlove, Thomas Hunt, Robert West, Tony Wiggins, Joe Francis and Ricky Collier.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Katie Gregory

HENDERSON -- Katie Gregory, 75, of the Stovall community died March 8, 2002, at her residence after a lengthy illness.

Emma Jones

WARRENTON -- Emma Jones of the Oine community died Friday, March 8, 2002, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Clyde Harris

WARRENTON -- Clyde Harris, 67, of Warrenton died Monday, March 4, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Baptist Church in Warrenton by the Rev. Edward Harrington. Burial with full military rites will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are one daughter, Stayce Harris of Marina Del Rey, Calif.; two sisters, Emma Persons of Raleigh and Essie R. Young of the Bronx, N.Y.; and two brothers, Theodore Harris of Raleigh and Fred Harris of Warrenton.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Clarence A. Peace

OXFORD -- Clarence A. Peace of the Toler-Oak Hill community passed away peacefully March 7, 2002, in his home at 8214 Highway 96 North, Oxford, N.C. He was born March 8, 1912, in Kenbridge, Va., and was employed as an automobile mechanic by E.J. Wyatt Chevrolet, South Boston, Va., for 40 years before retiring in 1975.
He was married to Nannie Satterwhite of the home for more than 66 years. In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Alma Peace-Bullock, wife of Mack (Oxford, N.C.), and Gwendolyn Taylor (Denville, N.J.); two sisters, Mamie P. Oakley (Oxford, N.C.) and Iola P. Winstead (Roxboro, N.C.); one son-in-law, Mack Bullock (Oxford, N.C.); one grandson, Martin Alexander Taylor (Falls Church, Va.); and three great-grandchildren, Tabitha Royster (Oxford, N.C.), Alexander Troy and Sydney Lauren Taylor (Falls Church, Va.); and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. A son-in-law, Otha Taylor, and a grandson, Troy Bullock, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held at Betts & Son Funeral Home, Sunday, March 10, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Oxford, N.C., at 1 p.m. Monday, March 11. Burial will follow at Satterwhite-Peace Memorial Gardens.

Robert M. Stegall

WARRENTON -- Robert M. Stegall, 78, died Friday, March 8, 2002, at Community Memorial Healthcare in South Hill, Va.
Arrangements will be announced by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Charlie W. Walker III

HENDERSON -- Charlie William “Chuck” Walker III, age 30, a resident of 4875 Glebe Road, died Friday morning, March 8, 2002, at his home. He was born in Vance County and was the son of Charlie W. Walker Jr. and Beverly Jaynes Walker.
He attended Tabernacle United Methodist Church at Townsville, where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Joyce Day. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Ann Walker; his maternal grandparents, J.W. and Meldona Blanche Jaynes; and his paternal grandparents, Charlie W. Walker Sr. and Frankie R. Walker.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Buster Abbott, Ronnie Perkinson, Jimmy Twisdale, Thomas Hester, Pat Reese and Johnny Riggan.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Vance County Relay for Life, c/o Lisa Simmons, 725 Horseshoe Bend Road, Henderson, N.C. 27537.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.
