WARREN COUNTY -- Lucy Davis West, 95, of Warren County, died Sunday, March 3, 2002.
Arrangements will be announced later by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Jesse O. Williams

HENDERSON -- Jesse O. Williams, 62, of 1140 Piney Grove Road, has died.
The family will be at the home.
Arrangements will be announced later by Garnes Funeral Services Inc.

Sandra Dickerson Willis

GREENSBORO -- Sandra Dickerson Willis, 42, of Greensboro, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Moses Cone Hospital.
At 7 p.m., memorial service for Greensboro friends and family will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel on W. Friendly Ave. In addition, a 4 p.m. service for friends and family in Henderson, N.C., will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Cokesbury United Methodist Church on South Cokesbury Road.
Sandra was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all she touched.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Richard H. Willis of the home; sons, Wesley E. Hughes of Raleigh, N.C., Phillip B. Hughes of Fort Bragg, Christopher R. Daniels of Henderson, Timothy C. Willis of Greensboro; daughters, Melissa G. Willis, Jessica M. Willis and Amanda K. Willis, all of Greensboro; stepdaughter, Carrie E. Williams of Greenwood, S.C.; father, Albert F. Dickerson, and stepmother, Ethel P. Dickerson, of Henderson; sisters, Betty G. Curtis of Winchester, Va., and Diane Perkinson of Oxford; stepbrother, Greg Patterson of Henderson; and stepsisters, Cynthia Patterson and Connie Cluderay, both of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends following the memorial services in both Greensboro and Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, Donations & Memorials, 4 Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.

Lucy B. Butts
RALEIGH -- Lucy Bland Butts, 77, of Raleigh, formerly of Warrenton, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Raleigh Community Hospital in Raleigh.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel by the Rev. Winston Bland. Burial will follow in the Warren City cemetery in Warrenton.
Surviving are one daughter, Alma Satterwhite of Brooklyn, N.Y., and two grandchildren.
The body will be on view today until the hour of the service.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Mary E.C. Marrow

HENDERSON -- Mary Ester Carroll Marrow, 75, of 602 East Winder St. died March 20, 2002, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Robert and Bertha Champion Carroll.
She retired from J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co. after 56 years of service.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church by the Revs. Joseph Ratliff, Mary Anderson and Clarence LeMay. Burial will follow in the Phipps Chapel cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Furman Marrow of Henderson; one sister, Nannie Carroll of Henderson; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Petronia Marrow, 411 Southerland Mill Road, Henderson.
The body will be on view at the funeral home until being taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Mary Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

James E. Watson Sr.

WARRENTON -- James Edward “Greasie” Watson Sr., 72, of Manson died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Manson Baptist Church in Manson by the Rev. William M. Ragland. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Delthine Watson of the home and Mary Irene Ragland of Henderson; four sons, Norman Truman Wyche of Fort Worth, Texas, James Edward Watson Jr. of Asheboro, John Ivey Watson of Charlotte and Clarence Watson of Henderson; and 11 grandchildren.
The body will be on view today at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton until being taken to the church one hour before the services.
Arrangements are by Boyd’s Funeral Services of Warrenton.

Estelle M. Wynn

HENDERSON -- Estelle Macon Wynn, 73, of 697 Adams St. died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her home.
Arrangements will be announced by Garnes Funeral Service.

William F. Amos
OXFORD -- William F. Amos, 69, of 4080 Fairport Road died Wednesday, March 25, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Betts & Son Chapel by the Rev. Ned Thorpe. Burial will follow in the Antioch Church cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Tony Amos of Jacksonville; one daughter, Michele Amos of New Bern; three sisters, Mary Cooper of Baltimore, Pearl Leach of East Orange, N.J., and Alma Brown of Roosevelt, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Estelle M. Wynn

HENDERSON -- Estelle Macon Wynn, 73, of 697 Adams St. died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her residence. She was a Vance County native and the daughter of the late Jessie Macon and Isaac Davis.
She was the widow of John H. Wynn.
She was a member of Rowland Chapel United Church of Christ, where the funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Isaac Thomas. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Crews, Carolyn Kearney and Mary Hanks, all of Henderson; one son, William Wynn of Henderson; four sisters, Eula Jordan, Gertrude Perry, Mary Lee Baskett and Viola Obey of Henderson; three brothers, James Macon of the home, Eddie Jordan and Robert Jordan; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Pallbearers will be nephews. Floral bearers will be nieces.
Arrangements are by Garnes Funeral Services.

Master Brain Baker Jr.

WARRENTON -- Master Brain Baker Jr., age 5, of Warrenton, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at his residence.
Arrangements will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Service of Warrenton.

Nichole F. Bartlett

KITTRELL -- Nichole Felice Bartlett, 32, of 2844 Charlie Grissom Road, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Durham Regional Hospital.
She was an employee of Revlon Inc. She was a member of Ilong Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and worked with the beginner’s class. She was second vice-president of the Granville County Young Adult Missionary Department.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ilong Baptist Church by the Rev. James M. Lawson. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens cemetery in Vance County.
Surviving are her parents, L.L. Bartlett and Victoria Peace Bartlett of the home; two brothers, Marcus Bartlett and Antonio Bartlett, both of Greensboro; a maternal grandmother, Helen Howard Peace of Kittrell; and a paternal grandmother, Sarah Reece Bartlett of Elizabeth City.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Ilong Baptist Church, Fairport Road.
Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Oxford.

Lucille A. Bobbitt

LOUISBURG -- Lucille Abbott Bobbitt, 82, of Louisburg, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Franklin Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Bobbitt Family cemetery by the Rev. David Blake.
Surviving are her son, Wayne A. Bobbitt of Louisburg; a daughter, Sharon Bobbitt Fitts of Louisburg; two sisters, Mae Bailey of Henderson and Mildred Hale of Henderson; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Lancaster Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations.

Ada M. Davis

CAMP SPRINGS, MD. -- A private memorial service for Ada Marie Davis, 57, of Camp Springs, Md., was conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Davis Family cemetery, Liberia community, by Sr. Margaret F. Gallagher.
She was a native of Warrenton and the daughter of the late Jobe and Ida Mae Davis.
Local services were preceded by a funeral mass on Oct. 13, 2001, at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church in Camp Springs, Md., followed by interment in Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Va.
She was a long-time member of St. Philip The Apostle Church, where she was actively involved with the Women’s Group and Children’s Church. She was also active in the PTA at the church-sponsored Catholic School.
For over 30 years, she worked in government service as an accounting technician, advancing to full accountant. She worked at the Pentagon, under the Secretary of the Army, Resource Management for the last six years and prolonged retirement to ensure her successor was prepared to handle the job once she left. A graduate of John R. Hawkins High School in Warrenton, she earned an associate of arts degree in accounting at a local Maryland College while working full time.
She was a victim of the “Attack on America” when American Airlines 757 crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
Surviving are her husband, Nolton Davis Jr. of Camp Springs, Md.; three daughters, Zenovia Cuyler of Glenn Hayle, Md., Yolanda Davis of Laurel, Md., and Rosslyn Davis of Camp Springs, Md.; a son, Christopher Davis of Camp Springs, Md.; three sisters, Christine Patterson of Temple Hill, Md., Sue Davis-Westmoreland of Alpharetta, Ga., and Georgia Davis of Silver Springs, Md.; three brothers, Norris Davis of Richmond, Va., and William Davis and Phillip Davis, both of Warrenton; two grandchildren; and a step-grandson.
Arrangements were by Brown’s Funeral Services Inc.

Braxton L. Harris

CREEDMOOR -- Braxton L. Harris, 81, of 507 Watson St., died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Durham Regional Hospital.
He was a retired carpenter, a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church and a mason.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Olive Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Mack Timberlake Sr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Lynwood Harris of Creedmoor and Jasper L. Harris of Durham; one daughter, Lula Harris Melton of Durham; three brothers, McCoy Harris of Durham, Carl D. Harris of Hampton, Va., and Crawford V. Harris of Stovall; three sisters, Ruby H. Brandon of Oxford, Marentha Bullock and Lillian Cherry, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.

Helen M. King

WARRENTON -- Helen Moore King, 80, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a Warren County native and the daughter of the late Fred Lynch and Alma Taylor Lynch. She was the widow of Eddie King.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Gardner’s Baptist Church cemetery by the Revs. Tom Caverley and Warren Cash.
Surviving are a son, Blake King of Roanoke Rapids; a daughter, Wanda Curl of Littleton; seven sisters, Hazel Hobgood of Henderson, Gertrude “Trudy” White of Norlina, Gracee Clary of Macon, Ruth Carter of Wilson, Hester Hilliard of Wilson, Pattie O’Neal of Cary and Nellie Lowe of Raleigh; two brothers, Reavis Lynch and Grover Lynch, both of Macon; and one grandson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
The family will be meeting at the Gardner’s Baptist Church Educational building from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Chester F. Newton

CREEDMOOR -- Chester F. Newton, 80, of 2031 W.B. Clark Road, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late Cuther F. and Ora Clay Newton.
He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army with the 840th Engineer Aviation Battalion in Europe. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creedmoor where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Watson Mangum Sunday school class.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Creedmoor by the Revs. Don Brown and Eddie Mauldin. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Holmes Newton of the home; a daughter, Sherrie N. Cates of Creedmoor; two sons, Tim C. Newton of San Antonio, Texas, and Bob Newton of Creedmoor; two sisters, Mary N. Lyon of Creedmoor and Sallie N. Roberts of Raleigh; two brothers, J. Linwood Newton and C.J. “Junior” Newton, both of Durham; and two grandchildren.
A brother, Russell F. Newton, preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church of Creedmoor Building Fund, PO Box 38, Creedmoor, N.C. 27522.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.

Kathleen B. Shearin

HENDERSON -- Kathleen Baker Shearin, 86, of 233 Gholson Avenue, Henderson, N.C., died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at a local nursing home.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Bennett and Pattie Day Baker. She was the widow of Joe Lynwood Shearin.
Mrs. Shearin was a retired church secretary, having served at Hillyer Memorial Christian Church and Millbrook Baptist Church in Raleigh. She was a member of West End Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Loyalty Sunday School Class and Lou Yates Circle.
A private graveside service will be held in Elmwood cemetery. A memorial service will be held today, at 11:00 a.m., at West End Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Richard A. Walker and Rev. Robert L. Yates.
Surviving are her son, Stuart J. Shearin, and wife, Susan, of Wendell, N.C.; a brother, Charles Baker, of Roxboro, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Katie Shearin and Sarah Shearin, both of Raleigh, N.C., and Hawkins Shearin, of Wendell; and a special niece, Elissa Yount, and husband, Eddie, of Henderson, and many other loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth B. Perry and Elizabeth B. Falkner; and four brothers, Robert Baker, Furman Baker, Herman Baker, and Bennie Baker.
The family will receive friends today, immediately following the service at West End Baptist Church. All other times, they will be at the home of Stuart and Susan Shearin, 4801 Wendell Boulevard, Wendell, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Foreign Missions Offering, West End Baptist Church, 619 Dabney Drive, Henderson, N.C. 27536.
Flowers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Obed W. Weldon

HENDERSON -- Obed Willard Weldon, age 97, a resident of 2250 Weldon’s Mill Road, died Sunday morning at Maria Parham Hospital.
A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late Tom W. and Lucy Hamm Weldon. He was owner and operator of Weldon’s Mill Store.
He was a member of the Liberty-Vance United Church of Christ, where he was a deacon emeritus. He served on the Vance County Board of Supervisors of the Soil and Water Conservation District for 43 years, the Economic Development Commission for Vance County, and the N.C. Department of Human Resources Social Services Commission from 1977 to 1983.
Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Liberty-Vance United Church Of Christ by the Rev. John Yevak and the Rev. Tim Burgess. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Mitchell Weldon, of the home; two sons, Ashley Blair Roberts of Lake Norman, N.C., and Charles Clifton Roberts of Ocala, Florida; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Monday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be: Gordon Wilder, Larry Johnson, Dan Weldon, Sonny Duke, Rick Mitchell, Pete Burgess, Bobby Mitchell and Woody Mitchell.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be: T. W. Ellis, T. H. Weldon, Ed Blue, Pete Falkner John Grissom, Charles Ayscue, and Preston Edwards.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty-Vance United Church Of Christ General Fund, 7818 N.C. 39 Hwy. South, Henderson, N.C. 27537.
Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

Timothy S. White

HENDERSON -- Timothy Scott White, 44, of 1102 S. Garnett St., Henderson, formerly of Pocohantas, Va., and Winston Salem, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. He was a native of Tazewell County, Va., and the son of Eulice and Hazel Compton White of Henderson.
He was a disabled cable T.V. lineman and a veteran of the United States Navy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Flowers Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Mike Gurganus. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two daughters, Alena Marie White and Jennifer Lynn White, both of Chesapeake, Va.; four sisters, Victoria W. Arnold of Winston Salem, Rebecca W. Keene and Evelyn White, both of Henderson, and Kimberly Jo W. Looney of Suffolk, Va.; and three brothers, Daniel White of Winston Salem, James White of Mocksville, and Randall White of Bramwell, W.Va.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.
