Hobert Worth Kepley
Hobert Worth Kepley, 81, of Winston-Salem died February 5 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 17, 1924, in Lexington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Kepley; brothers Coy, Chester and Pete Kepley; and a sister, Pauline Kepley.
Surviving are his daughter, Cindy Crouse and husband Randy of Lewisville; son Andrew Kepley and wife Mitzi of Lewisville; grandchildren Andrea and Julie Crouse and Rusty and Lindsey Kepley; sister Doris Hartley of Lexington; and his loving companions, Bingo and Rocko.
A memorial service was held at First United Church of Christ.

Viola Jane Bowman
Viola Jane Bowman, 93, of Winston-Salem died January 29 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Bethania on April 5, 1912. She loved to bake cakes and work in her flower and vegetable gardens, which she did until her late 70s. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Robert Lawson and Minnie Addie Grubbs Lawson; her husband, Thomas Theodore (Ted) Bowman; a son, William (Billie) Bowman; two sisters, Mary Ellen Lawson and Mona Lawson Kiger; and a brother, Robert Edward Lawson.
Surviving are two sons, Allen Eugene Bowman of Newton and Joe Bowman of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Jane Ellen Pike, of Clemmons; six grandchildren, Tommie Bowman, Randy Bowman, Angie West, Robin Boyer, April Bowman and Zach Bowman; eight great-grandchildren, Amber Hall, Megan Boyer, Dillon West, Courtney Williams, Daniel Bowman, Allen Michael Bowman, Maleah Bowman and Tanner Bowman; a sister-in-law, Sarah Lawson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Eddie Carol Grubbs
Eddie Carol Grubbs, 62, a longtime resident of Winston-Salem, died February 4. She was born on January 31, 1944, in Sanford, the daughter of Paul and Mozelle (Darnell) Cooper. Her early life was spent in Elkin, where she worshiped at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was employed at N.C. Baptist Hospital, where she eventually served as an instructor in the nursing program. She then began her employment with Forsyth County Health Department, where she served as a public health nurse. She retired to be with her grandchildren in 2000. She attended Calvary Baptist Church, where she served in the choir, Sunday school and worship groups, participated in a medical mission trip to Kenya and taught in the Children’s Ministry. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Cooper; her nephew, Tracy Luffman; and her granddaughter, Brennan Lyons.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Jerry Grubbs; daughter Paula Grubbs and husband Damon Lyons; stepson Tony Grubbs and wife Tracy of State Road; her grandchildren, Sophie, Ian and Ellie Lyons of Winston-Salem, Ashton and Caitlin Grubbs of Advance and Tristan Grubbs of State Road; her mother, Mozelle Cooper of Elkin; sister Gwyn Beshears and husband Jim of Clemmons; brother Wayne Cooper and wife Loretta of Elkin; a niece, Gina Brannock of Advance; a nephew, Zane Cooper of Elkin; and great-nephew Ryan Hutchinson of Advance.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Guy Hipp, Rev. Gary Byram and Rev. Erick Davis officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.

Rosa Lee Wilkins
Rosa Lee Wilkins, 90, of Winston-Salem died January 29 at C.R.T. Golden Lamb Rest Home after a period of illness. She was born August 11, 1905, in Gaffney, S.C. to the late Simpson and Mahala T. Patterson. From that union were born two other children, both deceased. She married the late Judson Wilkins and moved around 1942 to Winston-Salem, where they made their home. She was a lifelong member of Middle Fork Christian Church until her health failed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister, Marcellarus Patterson and Susie P. Stevenson; a niece, Mahala Wilkins; and a nephew, Eugene Patterson.
Surviving are a niece Willie Mae Davis of Winston-Salem; a nephew, Raford Patterson of Utica, N.Y.; and a devoted great-nephew, Nathan Wilkins and wife Roberta Alene of Clemmons; dear friends, Mrs. Willie Mae Caldwell, Ruth Crockett and Janice Hines, all of Winston-Salem; and a host of great-nephews and great-nieces.
Funeral services were held at Middle Fork Christian Church with Rev. Timothy Hymes officiating. Burial followed in Mount Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery, Gaffney.

Leah Fleming Terrell Morris Donoghue
Leah Fleming Terrell Morris Donoghue died February 5 at Plaza West, Sun City Center, Fla. She was the daughter of Eleanor Fleming Terrell and Benjamin Pettis Terrell. She grew up in Warrenton, N.C.; became a nurse anesthetist at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.; and worked in Champaign, Ill, and Richmond, Va.; after which she lived in Winston-Salem. She had been a resident of Sun City Center since 1980 and was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. She was a Bible study leader and volunteer for Hospice and Bloodmobile. She was an avid golfer and bridge player. She was preceded in death by former spouse Donald Shonk Morris of Sun City Center.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond L. Donoghue; four children, Mary Crawford Morris of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii; Donald S. Morris Jr. of Cornelius; Kathryn Dudley Morris of Clemmons; and Elizabeth Terrell Morris Phillips and husband Ed of Haiku, Maui, Hawaii; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the auditorium in Freedom Plaza, Sun City Center. Private burial followed in Winston-Salem.

Michael Allen Pegram
Michael Allen Pegram, 68, of Winston-Salem died at his home on February 3. He was born May 2, 1937, in Hamlet to the late William Allen and Mildred Sharp Pegram. He worked for Burlington Industries and later retired from Springs Mills Inc. as a chief corporate engineer. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coin collecting and playing the stock market. He also took great joy in visiting with his grandchildren and loved to go to their games and watch them play whenever he could. He lived in Tega Cay, S.C., for the majority of his life, and later moved to Winston-Salem in 2000.
Surviving are his three children, Alison Pegram Katon and husband Todd of Clemmons, William Allen Pegram and wife Leah of Boonville and David Michael Pegram of Lewisville; seven grandchildren, William Allen Pegram IV, Taylor Anderson Pegram, John Michael Katon, Worthy Alexandra Pegram, Haley Elizabeth Katon, Bryson Wade Pegram and David Michael Pegram II; and his sisters, Linda E. Pegram of Contuit, Mass., and Robin W. Pegram of Clemmons.
A graveside service was held at Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet.

Willard T. Clark
Willard T. “Bill” Clark, 67, of Clemmons died May 10. He was born December 25, 1938, to Josephine Clark and the late Edgar Clark. He was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Board of Deacons, president of the Baptist Men and in various other positions. He was retired from Piedmont Airlines/US Airways after many years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Sylvia Ragsdale Clark; two daughters, Deana Lyons and husband Rodney of Winston-Salem and Tonya Rene’ and husband Mark of New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Katrina Lyons, Justin Lyons and Carson Rene'; his mother, Josephine Clark Hildreth of Clemmons; two sisters, Christine Altizer of Kernersville and Delores Clark of Clemmons; and a brother, Grant Clark and wife Beth of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Antioch Baptist Church with Pastor Dwight Haynes, Rev. Neal Eller and Rev. Steve Welborn officiating.
Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Stephen Adarian Dampier
Stephen Adarian Dampier, 52, of Pfafftown died May 9 at his home. He was born July 30, 1953, in Duval County, Fla., a son of the late Parker Dampier and the late Vernice Bacon Dampier. He was employed by Ace Hardware. He loved his three dogs, teaching them tricks with the Frisbee. He also was a volunteer with the Winston-Salem Dog Training Club.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 29 years, Betty Pipes Dampier of the home; sister Prudence Baldwin and husband Robert of Florida; and nieces Heather Baldwin of Massachusetts and Barbara Fink of Maryland.
A memorial service was held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Rev. Stephen Gerhard officiating.

Alma Mary Guilbeault Holbrook-Gardner
Alma Mary Guilbeault Holbrook-Gardner, 79, of Clemmons died May 10 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Wayne Long, where she had lived in their care for the past eight and a half years. She was born April 26, 1927, in Providence, R.I., to the late Hazel and Mederic Guilbeault. She was a member of First Seventh Day Adventist Church of Winston-Salem. She had worked as a receptionist for Jones Photography studio, as a dental assistant and receptionist for Dr. Levine and as a receptionist for Dr. Frances Ballard at Parkway Plaza Shopping Center, where she was honored by the Parkway Plaza Association as the friendliest employee. She spent her earlier years, while married to the father of her children, Fred Holbrook (25 years), in Charlotte, Kernersville and Winston-Salem. In her later years, she was married to Jack Gardner, who preceded her in death after only three years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frederick “Chick” Guilbeault; and an older sister, Dolly Mick.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Bost and husband Ed of Boone, Carol Long and husband Wayne of Clemmons and Linda McMeans of Winston-Salem; a son, Richard Holbrook of Clemmons; a granddaughter, Jennifer Kidd and husband Damon of Rural Hall; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Braxton Kidd; a niece; and two nephews.
A private graveside service was held at Parklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.

Ronald Dale Jones
Ronald Dale Jones, 51, of Winston-Salem died May 5 at his home. He spent his professional life as a baker at Dewey’s Bakery. He was an avid boatsman and enjoyed all water sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tennyson L. Jones and Valera W. Jones; as well as his twin sister, Robin.
Surviving are a sister, Vicki Jones Strupe and husband Philp Michael of Lewisville; two brothers, Stewart Blair Jones of Winston-Salem and Vance Wilkerson Jones of Lewisville; an aunt, Rebecca W. Brewer of Winston-Salem; and his cousin and employer, Dewey Guy Wilkerson III.
A memorial service was held at West Side Baptist Church.

Jerry Gene Reid
Jerry Gene Reid, 75, died May 12 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born September 9, 1930, in Iredell County to the late Hubert Myers Reid and Zelda Shaver Reid. He grew up in Statesville and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean War, two years as a tail gunner on a B-29 and two years as a boom operator in air-to-air refueling. He retired from employment with the Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County school system. He was a member of Westview Baptist Church, Ardmore Community Club and various golf organizations. He enjoyed his retirement by golfing, mall walking, playing bridge, spending time with friends and vacationing at the beach. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Reid.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Hazel Walsh Reid; three daughters, Tammy Todd and husband Keith of Winston-Salem, Sharon Deaver and husband Lance of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sandra Reeves and husband Kevin of Charlotte; a sister, Sue Reid of Lewisville; and six grandchildren, Reid and Ellen Todd, Kevin and Carole Reeves and Corbin and Bailey Deaver.
A graveside service was held at Parklawn Memorial Park with Dr. Carlton Mitchell officiating.

George Byron Hill Jr.
George Byron Hill Jr. of Winston-Salem died May 11. He was born December 14, 1921, in Smyrna, Ga., a son of George Byron Hill Sr., and Winnie Vesta Combs Hill. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, having spent 51 months aboard the USS Cimarron in the Atlantic and Pacific. He earned nine battle stars and the bronze “A” during that time. He participated in the battle of Midway and Doolittle’s Raid and was part of the fleet support for the battle of Iwo Jima. On October 11, 1952, he married Shirley Starr Barton. He retired from Western Electric Co. He was a technical illustrator specialist. He loved American history and was an avid War Between the States buff. He attended St. Leo’s Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Robert Hill; and sisters Flora Naylor, Ava Beahan and Adelaide Yother.
Surviving are his wife of the home; two sons, George Byron Hill III and wife Darlene of Nashville, Tenn., and Barton Combs Hill and wife Margaret of Clemmons; two daughters, Floranne “Lori” Hill Church and husband Earnie of Greensboro and Mollie Starr Hill Joyner and husband David of Marietta, Ga.; a grandson, Mitchell Church and wife Anna; four granddaughters, Melissa Church, Jessi Hill, Samantha Joyner and Abbie Joyner; a brother, Brumette Hill and wife Millie of Rome, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Mark Yother of Canton, Ga.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Son Reynolda Road Chapel with Father Thomas Kessler officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park with military honors by District 11 South Memorial Honor Guard.

Russell Shirrell Kimel
Russell Shirrell Kimel, 88, of Arcadia died May 14 at his home. He was born May 2, 1918, in Davidson County to the late Cicero A. and Flora Crouch Kimel. He was a lifelong, faithful member of Friedberg Moravian Church, where he served the Lord with love, grace and dignity. He served in World War II with the Air Force at Headquarters Air Service Command at Patterson Field near Dayton, Ohio. He had retired from Greyhound Bus Lines with 40 years service as a ticket agent and was also the co-owner of Eagle Burial Vaults. He also was a dedicated member of the Arcadia Lions Club, where in the year 2002 he was awarded the Jack Stickley Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Service. Four brothers, Ray, Fred, Ralph and C.A. Kimel, preceded him in death, and all five brothers served in the Armed Forces During World War II.
Surviving are his wife of over 63 years, Mildred Nuckols Kimel; five sons, Rex Kimel and wife Sondra of Castle Rock, Colo., Larry Kimel and Susan, Dwain Kimel and wife Vicki Jo and Mark Kimel and wife Vicky, all of Clemmons, and John Kimel of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren and their spouses; 15 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Tanya Burcham; many other nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Rev. G. Thomas Shelton.
Funeral services were held at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. James C. Newsome Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the church graveyard.

Marie Collins Templeton
Marie Collins Templeton, 78, of Winston-Salem died May 9 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born January 13, 1928, in Forsyth County to Walter and Ada Winters Collins. She was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, James Glenn Templeton of the home; four sisters, Mickey Minor and husband Bob of Advance, Sandra Pitts and husband Carl, and Audrey Vestal, all of Walkertown, and Vicki Walker and husband David of Clemmons; and a brother, Ralph Collins and wife Beverly of Pfafftown.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Dwight Haynes, Rev. Norwood Green and Rev. Neal Eller officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

Mary Helen Tripp Mewborn
Mary Helen Tripp Mewborn, 60, of Clemmons died June 19 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Pitt County on November 1, 1945, to Letha Gray Peaden Tripp and the late Richard Tripp Sr. She was full of life, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed being with her husband, daughter, family and friends.
Surviving are husband Jessie A. “Andy” Mewborn of Clemmons; daughter Phyllis Ann Mewborn Welch and husband Harold Scott Welch; granddaughters Morgan E. Welch and McKenzie C. Welch of Asheville; mother Letha Gray Peaden Tripp; four sisters, Blanche T. Butts and Bertha T. Pennell of Wilson and Betty Jean T. Pittman and Hazel T. Gray of Farmville; and two brothers, Richard Tripp Jr. and Joseph Tripp of Farmville.
Funeral services were held at Farmville Funeral Home.

Mamie Hobson Williams
Mamie Hobson Williams, 89, of Winston-Salem, died June 20 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Yadkin County on August 6, 1916, to William and Lethia Mikles Hobson. She was the oldest active member of Winston-Salem Friends Meeting. She retired from AT&T with 30 years of service, and then joined the mall-walkers group, participating for 22 years. She will be remembered as an avid gardener in her neighborhood. She also enjoyed many trips with Barr Travel Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Russell Williams; granddaughter Crystal Ann McKeown; great-grandson Anthony Bryant Mangum III; two brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean W. McKeown and husband Kenneth of Clemmons and Pat W. Sparks and husband Roy of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Hilary Kenneth McKeown Jr. and wife Robin, Mischa McKeown Mangum and husband Skip, Leigh Sparks Howard and husband James and Traci Sparks Jermyn and husband Brad; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren Hilary McKeown, Adam Paul McKeown, Austin John McKeown, William James Howard, Ian McKeown Mangum, Caroline Wrenn Mangum and Carson Scott Jermyn; two brothers, Troy and David Hobson; sister-in-law Gladys Holley and husband Cleo; a niece, Bea Hoots; and a special friend, Mattie Lawrence.
Funeral services were held at Winston-Salem Friends Meeting with Judith Dancy, pastor, Willie Frye, pastor, and Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. Burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.

Florence Dull Shepherd
Florence Dull Shepherd, 95, of Winston-Salem died June 19 at her home. She was born July 31, 1910, to the late Charlie Monroe and Frances Beck Dull. She was a member of Christ Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Shepherd Sr.; and a daughter, Frances S. Spainhour.
Surviving are a son, James E. Shepherd Jr. and wife Rebecca of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Deanna S. Grant and husband David of Morehead City; nine grandchildren, Fred O. Spainhour Jr. of Lewisville, Randy L. Spainhour and wife Kathy of South Port, Dickie L. Spainhour and wife Kitty of Carolina Beach, Becky S. Weldon and husband Larry of King, Cheryl S. Vaughn and husband Ronnie of Lewisville, Gary Spainhour of Lewisville, Candace S. Blick and husband Brandon of Mount Airy, Karen S. Wall and husband Steve of Kernersville and Allison S. Bradley and husband Morgan of Lakeland, Fla.; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred D. Fearrington; several nieces and nephews; and a faithful friend, Lydia Brown.
A graveside service was held at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Lewisville with Dr. Samuel Marx officiating.

Wilburn Eli Long
Wilburn Eli Long, 82, of Winston-Salem died June 18 in Britthaven of Davidson after an illness of one month. He was born November 23, 1923, in Davidson County to Sammy Leonard Paul Long and Lensie Craver Long. A retired employee of Western Electric, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Canaan United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by an infant son; daughter-in-law Paula S. Long; stepbrother Coy Swicegood; and two sisters, Vada Swicegood Bost and Geneva Long.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Clodfelter Long of the home; sons David Eli Long and Sammy Kay Long and wife Carolyn all of Winston-Salem; sisters Naomi Brisendine of Texas, Betty Jean Hall of Lexington and Edna Mae Gordon of Clemmons; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Canaan United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Whitley officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Betty Dinkins Fulk
Betty Dinkins Fulk, 77, of Mount Airy died June 19. A native of Mount Airy, she was born February 17, 1929, to the late William Wesley and Lottie Jones Dinkins. She was a devoted member of Grace Moravian Church and was active in the Women’s Fellowship. She retired with more than 25 years of service to Northern Surry Hospital of Surry County’s OB/GYN unit. Mrs. Fulk volunteered with the Yokefellow Ministry, Grace Moravian Church and Jones Elementary School.
Surviving are five children, Mark Fulk and wife Debra of Roaring River, Michael Fulk of High Point, Stephen Fulk and wife Janet of Siloam, Susan Fulk of the home and Shannon Snow and husband John of Dobson; a grandson, Andrew Stephen Fulk of Siloam; three stepgranddaughters, Katie Lowder, Kristi Hendrix and Michelle Ashley of Lewisville; a brother, Burton Dinkins and wife Frances of Mount Airy; and a special sister by marriage, Eloise Fulk Branch of White Plains.
Funeral services were held at Grace Moravian Church with Rev. Tim Byerly officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ruby B. Tatum Hicks
Ruby B. Tatum Hicks, 79, of Winston-Salem died June 20 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born July 2, 1926, a daughter of Charles Granville Tatum and Ruby Newsome Tatum. She had worked at Robins Department Store and Western Electric, as a tour guide at Old Salem and taught calligraphy at Forsyth Technical Community College. She was a member of Wallburg Baptist Church, served as church treasurer for 10 years, taught in the Junior department, worked with the Y.W.A., was a member of the church choir and served on several committees at the church. She was married to Curtis Lee Hicks, who died December 5, 1977. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Thomas; and a brother, Charles Tatum.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Hicks and wife June and Stan Hicks and wife Martha of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Eric, Shannon and Marcy Hicks; a sister, Celia Luttrell of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Dan Tatum of Clemmons and Carlton Tatum of Midway; a sister-in-law, Mary Eula Tatum of Winston-Salem; and a dear friend and neighbor, Genene Watson.
Funeral services were held at Wallburg Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Cantrell officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
