Funeral service Friday 1 p.m. at Macedonia UCC, Burial, Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Surviving: daughter, Phyllis K. Cameron of Raleigh; one grandson, Reginald Cameron of Raleigh; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation at the church from 12:30-1:00 p.m. Friday.

BRENDA LEE KINGSLAND
GLOUCESTER - Mrs. Brenda Gale Lee Kingsland, 49, of 229 Summerplace Dr., died Sunday, June 6, 1999 in Carteret General Hospital. She was born in Alamance County, the daughter of John S. Lee Jr. and Emily Gen Lee. She was employed as an elevator mechanic at East Carolina University.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane, NC, with the Rev. Thomas Willoughby officiating. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her son, Paul Anthony Rice and brother, Tommy Lee Page.
Survivors: husband, Delbert P. Kingsland; daughter, Peggy Michelle Rice Stanley of Alamance County; parents, Mr. & Mrs. John & Gen Lee of Mebane; sister, Teresa L. Sharpe of Scotland Neck, NC; brother, Robert K. Lee of Mebane; stepsons, Jason Kingsland of Scotland Neck and Shane Kingsland of New York; grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Kennedy of Mebane; three grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, NC from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and other times at the home of Mr. & Mrs. John S. Lee, Jr., 620 North Third Street, Mebane, NC.

REV. HUGH FRANKLIN LECKY JR.
DURHAM - Hugh, known to many as Jerry, passed away 8 June 1999 at Duke Hospital, Durham, NC at the age of 67. He was born 3 November 1931 to Hugh and Hazel Lecky of Newark, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Lee Storms Lecky of Durham; children, Richard Louis Lecky of Orlando, FL, Carol Lecky Thompson, Jeffery Hugh Lecky, both of Durham; 11 grandchildren; brother, Bobb Lecky of Huntington, WVA.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Louis Lecky and son, Harold Franklin Lecky.
Services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Cornwallis Road, Durham, NC, at 2:30 p.m. Friday, 11 June 1999. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family will be accepting visitors at their home, 1411 N. Gregson St., Durham, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, 10 June 1999.
Family requests donations to American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

ELIZABETH D. LEWIS
HAVELOCK - Alice Elizabeth Doughty Lewis, 84, of Havelock, NC, died June 9, 1999 at Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern, NC. Funeral will be at Pollock-Wells & Best Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. on June 11, 1999. Viewing will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 1999.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Kennedy and Lula Warren Doughty, and son, Claude Christy Lewis.
Survivors include her husband, Jesse Robert Lewis, Jr.; sons, Robert O'Neal Lewis and wife Shelby P. Lewis, Lyle Burwell Lewis and wife Peggy S. Lewis; four grandchildren, Robert O. Lewis, Jr. and wife Amy Jo Pierce Lewis of Scottsdale, AZ, Michael D. Lewis, Brenda Lewis Jacques and husband Chris Jacques, and Clifton Lewis of Havelock; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, David and Hannah Lewis of Scottsdale, AZ.
The family will receive friends at 103 Sunny Drive, Havelock, North Carolina.

LOSSIE "PEARL" MARLER
JAN. 27, 1932 - JUNE 8, 1999
FT. MYERS, Fla. - Lossie Pearl "Pete" Marler, 67, formerly of Raleigh and Four Oaks, died Tuesday morning in Ft. Myers. She was born in Johnston County, the daughter of the late Julius Baker and Myrtle Barbour Baker.
She was the widow of Ernest Ryan and Luther Marler.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, 1999 at Strickland Funeral Home, Wendell. Burial, Barbours Chapel Advent Christian Church in Four Oaks.
Surviving son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Frances Marler of Punta Gorda, Fla.; sisters, Judie Hill Smith of Selma and Wanda Gail Allen Lee of Four Oaks; brothers, Charles Baker of Wendell, Donald Baker of Junction City, Kansas and Wayne Hill of Clayton; granddaughters, Christina Marler and Michelle Beasley; great-grandson, Jonathan Marler.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell; other times at the home of Charles and Alice Baker, 10901 Poole Rd., Wendell.

JEANNE VINSON MASTEN
WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Jeanne Vinson Masten, 50, of 724 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC died suddenly on June 9, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Masten was born in Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina on May 6, 1949, the daughter of the late Mr. James Thomas Vinson, Jr. and Elizabeth Bunn Vinson. She was a graduate of Goldsboro High School and attended Campbell University. She married Dr. John W. Masten on November 21, 1972 while he was attending dental school at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. A homemaker and community volunteer while raising her son Matthew, Mrs. Masten more recently enjoyed a banking career with Centura Bank and BB&T. Mrs. Masten was a long-time member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a former member of the Westwood Garden Club and the Sorosis Club. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and mother-in-law, Mrs. Peggy W. Masten.
Mrs. Masten is survived by her loving husband, John W. Masten, D.D.S.; her son, Matthew V. Masten; father-in-law, Guy M. Masten, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; five brothers, James T. Vinson, III, Raleigh, NC, Daniel T. Vinson, Goldsboro, NC, Robin K. Vinson, Raleigh, NC, Henry M. Vinson, Columbia, SC, and Mark R. Vinson, Williamsburg, VA; three sisters, Elizabeth B. Vinson-Underhill, Goldsboro, NC, Sue F. Luse, Phoenix, AZ and Martha A. Vinson, Ph.D., Winston-Salem, NC; six nieces and nine nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11, 1999 at Vogler's Chapel on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem, NC, with graveside services immediately following at Forsyth Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening, June 10, 1999 at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC. Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. 5th Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

RALEIGH - Lizzie Elizabeth McClain of 125 S. Pettigrew Street, died Saturday, June 5, 1999.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
Family visitation at the church from 1-1:30 p.m. Interment will be observed at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
She is survived by a sister, Lucille Heath of Silver Springs, MD; two nieces, Laura Stover of Silver Springs, MD and Kay Richardson of Selma; 14 great-nieces and three great-nephews; a devoted friend, Ida G. Matthews and many other relatives and friends.

JOHN THOMAS MORGAN SR.
DUNN - Mr. John Thomas Morgan Sr., 80, of the Carrolton of Dunn, died Wednesday.
Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist church by Rev. Danny Powell and Rev. Hubert Morgan. Burial will be in the Godwin-Barefoot Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Godwin Morgan; two sons, John T. Morgan Jr. of Emory, Va., and Pat Morgan of Clayton; two daughters, Becky King of Winston-Salem and Dianne Welton of Cary; two brothers, Rev. Henry Morgan of Raleigh and William G. Morgan of Summerville, S.C.; one sister, Doris Morgan; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Skinner Funeral Home.

GIBSON THOMAS RILEY
NEW BERN - Gibson Thomas Riley, 89, of 1012 Cooper's Court, New Bern, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Craven Regional Medical Center. The son of John and Blanche Riley, he was born on October 29, 1909, in Wilson, North Carolina, where he resided for most of his life. During World War II he worked with the Construction Quartermaster at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and following the war he returned to Wilson where he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service until his retiremen t at the end of 31 years of service. Mr. Riley was married to the Former Emma Wiggs of Johnston County and she was a registered nurse at Wilson Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Following his wife's death in 1980, Mr. Riley moved to New Bern to make his home with his son, Dennis, and daughter-in-law, Dianne. He referred to New Bern as his second home and enjoyed making new friends and being part of the community. In 1997 failing health forced him to leave his home and become a resident of Trent Village Nursing Center in Pollocksville where he remained until his death.
While residing in Wilson, Mr. Riley was an active member of First Christian Church where he served as a deacon. After his move to New Bern, he affiliated with St. Mary's Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Dennis G. Riley, and daughter-in-law, Dianne Brown Riley, of New Bern; his brother and sister-in-law, John E. and Irene Riley, sister, Blanche Riley Jordan, sister-in-law, Ruth G. Riley, all of Wilson; special friends, Marice DeBruhl and Ron and Mary Pound of New Bern, David Pound of Buies Creek, Ala Pound Gore of Hartford, Connecticut, and Treat and Edith Brown of Selma.
The family will receive friends at Pollock-Wells & Best Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 1999. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 11, 1999 at First Christian Church in Wilson with Dr. David Welsh and Dr. W. Burkette Raper officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson.
Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home of John and Irene Riley, 1716 Mayflower Drive, Wilson, NC.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorials to the Gibson T. and Emma W. Riley Endowment Fund at Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson St., Mount Olive, NC 28365.

HELEN GERTRUDE SCHEETZ
RALEIGH - Helen Gertrude Scheetz, 94, of Raleigh, formerly of Ohio died Tuesday at Mayview Convalescent Center.
Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in North Industry, Ohio.
Surviving are her son, Robert Scheetz and his wife Elsie of Raleigh; sister, Ina Renner of San Diego, CA; grandsons, Michael Scheetz and his wife Nancy of Simsbury, CT, David Scheetz and his wife Amy of Midlothian, VA and Robert Scheetz and his wife Stephanie of Fairfield, CT; seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Industry United Methodist Church, PO Box 40, Canton, Ohio 44707.

GERALD CAMPBELL WALKER
ROANOKE, VA - Gerald Campbell Walker, "Shorty", 76, of Roanoke passed away Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, as a result of liver complications. He was born in West Virginia. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he worked for the Charleston Gazette newspaper in Charleston, W.VA. After moving to Roanoke, he was employed with the George Press Dairy, Sealtest distributor and continued to work in Roanoke as a self-employed painting contractor. He was a member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church for 37 years, a life member of the Roanoke Elks Lodge, and a 50 year member of the American Legion. He was predeceased by his parents, Ida and George Walker, of Mabscott, W.VA. and a sister, Jewell Walker Fitzgerald of Cheyenne, WY.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Murdock Walker; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Toni Walker, Dana and Peggy Walker, all of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Dr. John A. Pearson of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Justin and Paige Pearson, Emily and Nathan Walker, mother-in-law, Lillian Harvey Murdock of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Bill Baker of Beckley, W.VA; brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Betty Walker of Beckley, W.VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, 11 a.m. Saturday, with Dr. F. Tupper Garden and the Rev. Tom Stocks officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakley's South Chapel.

DR. JOSEPH BLACK ALEXANDER
LUMBERTON - Joseph Black Alexander, a family doctor who practiced in Lumberton for almost a half a century, died Tuesday. He was 73 years old.
Alexander was born March 16, 1926, in Thomasville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Milton O'Hanlon Alexander and Antoinette Black Alexander; sister, Elizabeth Alexander Lee Morgan; brother, John Anderson Alexander.
Surviving: wife, Iris Rich Alexander of the home; children, Josephine Alexander Carter and her husband, Ronald Carter, of High Point; Dr. Stephen Rich Alexander and his wife, Karen Miller, of West Palm Beach, FL, Dr. James Rich Alexander and his wife, Anna Merritt of Virginia Beach, VA, Elizabeth Alexander Berne and her husband, Dabney Berne of Florence, SC; six grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Alexander Britt of Raleigh; brother, David Alexander of Seattle, WA; four nieces and a nephew.
Visitation will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Floyd Mortuary.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church on Seventh and Walnut Streets. A private graveside service will be held later.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the American Heart Association at 136A Bow Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
Additionally, the Joseph B. Alexander Scholarship Memorial Fund will be established at First Baptist Church. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 938, Lumberton, NC 28359. The scholarship will be administered through the Men's Fellowship Class and plans are for it to benefit college-bound students.

THOMAS W. DEWAR
RALEIGH - Thomas Wayne Dewar, 66, of 8240 Holly Springs Road, died Monday, July 19, 1999. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 1999 at Swift Creek Baptist Church. Burial, church cemetery.
Mr. Dewar was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration and helped his wife start and operate their family business, Fairview Greenhouses and Garden Center.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, JoAnn Matthews Dewar; mother, Frances Tingen Dewar; sons, Wayne Dewar, Phillip Dewar and wife, Tonja; daughters, Sandra Rearden and husband, Bernie and Susan Rollins and husband, Jack, all of Raleigh; grandchildren, Brad Rollins, Karlie Rollins, Meghan Dewar and Taylor Sears; brother, Mack Dewar of Fuquay-Varina.
