Ralph Sorenson
Ralph Sorenson, 90, Parkwood Place, Grand Forks, died Saturday, May 10, 1997, in Park River (N.D.) Hospital.
Ralph Sorenson was born April 24, 1907, the son of Ole and Ingeborg (Moe) Sorenson, in Oklee, Minn., where he attended school. He attended Agriculture College, Grand Rapids, Minn. He farmed near Oklee. In 1932, he moved to Fisher, Minn., where he also farmed. He retired in 1980. He then moved to East Grand Forks, and in 1990, into Parkwood Place.
He is survived by brothers, Harold, Climax, Minn., and Ingolf, Phoenix.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Ausil, Helga and Margaret; and brothers, Knute, Andres, Soren and Gunder.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday in River Heights Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Fisher (Stennes, East Grand Forks).

Nicholas VonRuden, 94, Grand Forks, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997 in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls. VonRuden had been evacuated from Good Samaritan Nursing Center, East Grand Forks. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Reynolds, N.D. (Norman, Columbia Road, Grand Forks).

Joyce Wood
PEMBINA, N.D. -- Joyce Wood, 70, Pembina, died Monday, May 5, 1997 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha, Neb.
Joyce A. Berkley was born July 19, 1926, the daughter of Louis and Phoebee (Johnson) Berkley, in Kindred, N.D., where she attended school. She worked in Minneapolis and Fargo. She married Bob Wood Jan. 8, 1955, in Fargo. They lived in several areas until moving to Pembina in 1974.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Jim (Lynn), Omaha, Neb., and Richard, Temple, Texas; a daughter, Cynthia Prince, Grand Forks; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sisters, Millie Olson, Fargo, Laura Gutterud, Boulder, Colo., and Fran Nagorsky, Springfield, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Assumption Catholic Church, Pembina.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service in the church (Jensen-Askew, Cavalier, N.D.)
John Meland
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- John Meland, 91, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
John Meland was born Nov. 18, 1905, the son of Kolbin and Ann Meland, in Aure, Minn. He attended school in Pinewood, Minn. He married Francis Polansky June 19, 1935, in Thief River Falls. They moved to Gatzke, Minn., where they farmed. In the 1940s, they moved to Middle River, Minn., where he managed the Co-op. In the 1950s, he purchased Gulf Bank Oil Co. in Middle River, Minn., where he worked until retiring. He was mayor of Middle River for a time.
He is survived by his wife.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen; brothers, Hjalmer, Severt, Leonard, Kolbin Jr., and Clarence; and sisters, Millie and Bertina.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday in First Lutheran Church, Middle River.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with a 5 p.m. prayer service in Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Middle River.
Michael Schwan
Michael Schwan, 63, Lisbon, N.D., formerly of Devils Lake and Grand Forks, died Sunday, May 4, 1997, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Minneapolis.
Michael E. Schwan was born July 19, 1933, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Feist) Schwan, in Devils Lake. He attended school in Grand Forks. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He traveled for several years with the carnival and operated the rides. He also delivered mail in New Ulm, Minn. He moved to the North Dakota Veteran's Home in 1990.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary, St. Peter, Minn.; and a brother, Richard McFadden, Lenox, Ga.
Services: Were held May 8.
Burial: Oakwood, Lisbon.
