Margaret J. Christianson

DEVILS LAKE -- Margaret J. Christianson, 91, Devils Lake, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in Devils Lake.

Margaret Johanna Hanson was born Feb. 12, 1907, the daughter of Herman and Johanna (Nelson) Hanson, in Kittson County, Minn. She married Melvin Christianson on Dec. 12, 1929, in Devils Lake.

She is survived by a daughter, Joan Cruse, Devils Lake; daughter-in-law, Faye Christianson, Devils Lake; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Gordon; a great-grandson; and 15 brothers and sisters.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.

Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday in Aaker, Dunnigan & Brooks Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Devils Lake City Cemetery.

Edna A. Burchill

FINLEY, N.D. -- Edna A. Burchill, 76, Finley, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead.

Edna Annie Grotte was born Jan. 11, 1922, the daughter of Swen and Annie (Sund) Grotte, in Pickert, N.D., where she attended school. She married Hubert Burchill on Nov. 12, 1941, in Moorhead. They farmed near Pickert.

She is survived by her husband, Fargo; a son, Lyle (Grace), Hope, N.D., Lavonne (Ronald) Guttormson, New Hope, Minn., and Linda (Kenneth) Ross, Winnipeg, Man.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean (Berle) Carlson, Leonard, N.D., and Fern (Thomas) Hanson, Kindred, N.D.; and brothers, Jennings, Arthur, N.D., Ernest and Walter, both of Finley, and Jon and Marvin, both of Minneapolis.

Services: 9 a.m. Friday, Mark Richtsmeier farm, Hunter, N.D.

Visitation: One hour before services at the farm.

Burial: Finley Cemetery (Quam-Plaisted-Cushman, Finley).

Mary Rosenberg

NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Mary Rosenberg, 79, New Rockford, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in Carrington (N.D.) Health Center.

Mary Anderson was born Feb. 22, 1919, the daughter of Martin and Serena (Roaldson) Anderson, in New Rockford. She grew up in Brantford, N.D., and graduated from high school in New Rockford. She attended Valley City (N.D.) State University and received her teaching certificate. She taught in several schools in Tiffany Township, Eddy County, and New Rockford. She married Lloyd Rosenberg on Nov. 28, 1941. They lived and farmed in the Brantford area. In 1982, they moved to New Rockford. Lloyd Rosenberg died Aug. 21, 1989.

She is survived by a son, Dale, New Rockford; a daughter, Phyllis (Roger) Topp, Grace City, N.D.; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Gilbert, Missoula, Mont.; and sisters, Alma Berglund, Minneapolis, and Ione Valer, New Rockford.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary; brothers, Elmer and George; and a sister, Ruth Topp.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Kvernes Lutheran Church, Carrington.

Visitation: 1 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Burial: Kvernes Cemetery.

Suzanne A. Boscher

Suzanne A. Boscher, 100, Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center, formerly of 710 Fourth Ave. S., died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in the nursing home.

Suzanne Marie Augustine Lesage was born March 21, 1898, the daughter of Adolphe and Marie Louise (Moitie) Lesage, in Cherbourg, France. She attended school in England. She married Eugene Boscher on Sept. 5, 1921, in Cherbourg. They moved to the United States on Oct. 22, 1957, and lived in Grand Forks. She became a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1964. Eugene Boscher died Nov. 12, 1986.

She is survived by a daughter, Lyse (Jacques) Etienne, Cherbourg; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Albrecht; and a granddaughter.

Services: 7 p.m. Monday, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.

Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bernard Sullivan

NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Bernard Sullivan, 66, New Rockford, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at home.

Bernard Sullivan was born Nov. 24, 1931, the son of James and Agnes (Lorig) Sullivan in Rockford Township, Eddy County, N.D., where he attended school. He began farming with his father and had been farming in the New Rockford area since.

He is survived by a brother, L.R. "Bob," Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday in Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Visitation: 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, and 8 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday, all in the funeral home.

Burial: St. John's Cemetery, New Rockford.

Anne Kotta

Anne Kotta, 82, Concord, Calif., formerly of Grand Forks, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, in Mount Diablo Hospital, Concord.

Anne Elizabeth Kenney was born Nov. 28, 1915, the daughter of Louis and Esther (McMahon) Kenney, in New York. She moved to Grand Forks with her family in 1918. She graduated from high school in Grand Forks. She worked at St. Michael's Hospital. She married Lawrence James Kotta on April 16, 1941, in Grand Forks, where they lived. Lawrence Kotta died Nov. 4, 1989. She moved to Concord after the Flood of 1997 in Grand Forks.

She is survived by a son, Lawrence, Jr., Patten, Calif.; daughters, Margaret Ann (Jon) Irwin, Clayton, Calif., Mary Kay Melvin, and Terri Kotta, both of Concord, and Pat (Randy) Holms, Fargo; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Carey.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, with a 6 p.m. prayer service, in Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road, Grand Forks.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Joann Novak

CROOKSTON -- Joann Novak, 65, Crookston, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.

Joann Jean Novak was born June 16, 1933, the daughter of Jacob and Marian (Lovick) Novak, in Milton, N.D., where she attended school. She attended St. Joseph School of Nursing, Fargo, where she received her certificate as a licensed practical nurse. She worked for St. Francis Hospital, Riverview Hospital and St. Vincent's Rest Home, all in Crookston.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Chapel Mount St. Benedict Monastery, Crookston.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the Chapel.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Crookston (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).

Edith Granum

THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Edith Granum, 94, Thief River Falls, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls.

Edith Francelia Johnson was born Sept. 11, 1903, the daughter of Nels and Sophia (Hylin) Johnson, in Wenona, Ill. She moved with her family March 1, 1913, to Warren, Minn., where she attended school. She graduated from Northstar College, Warren. She moved to Fargo, where she worked at Casselman's Drug Store and later at Shotwell Floral. She married Henry Granum on Dec. 14, 1938, in Osage, Minn. They lived in Minneapolis until Aug. 1, 1946, when they moved to Thief River Falls. They began a Surplus Store in Thief River Falls. Henry Granum died in 1973.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ardie Johnson, Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Maurine Johnson; and brothers, Paul, Herbert, Ernest and Clark

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Friday, Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls (Green, Thief River Falls).

Jerome M. Hovdenes

TOLNA, N.D. -- Jerome M. Hovdenes, 73, Jamestown, formerly of Tolna, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown, where he had lived since January 1995.

Jerome M. Hovdenes was born April 20, 1925, the son of Bernt and Petra (Elgin) Hovdenes, in Tolna, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, N.D. He worked for an auto body shop in Minot before returning to the Tolna area. He moved to the Friendship Healthcare Center, McVille, N.D.

He is survived by sisters, Bernice Christianson, Adams, Ore., and Corrine (Reuben) Zabel, Jamestown.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sigdal Lutheran Church, Tolna.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Sigdal Church Cemetery.

Military Rites: American Legion Post No. 162, Tolna.

Albert W. Mosolf

CAVALIER, N.D. -- Albert W. Mosolf, 91, Cavalier, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier.

Albert W. Mosolf was born March 21, 1907, the son of Wilheim and Ottillio (Bobert) Mosolf, in Milton, N.D. He grew up and attended school in the Neche, N.D. area. He married Bertha Heuchert on Nov. 16, 1932, in St. Thomas, N.D. He farmed in the Hamilton, N.D., area from 1939 until his retirement. In 1947, they moved to Cavalier. He was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cavalier.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Colleen (George) Burt, Daytona Beach, Fla., Marlys (Dave) Harmon, Calabasas, Calif., and Judith Birdsall, Circle Pines, Minn.; eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Gust, Fred, Herman and Bernard; and sisters, Bertha Mosolf, Emma Webb and Marie Talley.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Cavalier Cemetery.

Ruth F. Zeman

Ruth F. Zeman, 78, Ely, Nev., formerly of Grand Forks, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.

Ruth Florence Cash was born Nov. 17, 1920, the daughter of Edward James and Mary Elizabeth (Fahey) Cash, in Lakota. In 1990, she moved to Ely, Nev.

She is survived by her husband, Larry, Ely; sons, Joseph (Billie Sue) Zeman, Ely, William LeRoy Zeman, Grand Forks, Michael Duane (Inez) Laity, Eureka, Nev.; daughters, Kathey (Earl) Hauck, Eugene, Ore., and Shirley (Donald) Browning, Peru, India; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mable Geitzs, Grand Forks, Edna Johnson, Leeds, N.D., and Verniel McGraw, Columbia, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and brothers, Donald, James and John.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ely.

Visitation: 8 p.m. prayer service Monday, Mountain Vista Chapel, Ely.

Burial: Ely City Cemetery.
