Bertha 'Boots' Kreun

Bertha "Boots" Kreun, 70, 546 Fifth Ave. S.E., East Grand Forks, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at home.

Bertha Krosschell was born Dec. 26, 1927, the daughter of Albert and Nellie (Schmidt) Krosschell, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She attended school in Edgerton, Minn., and she graduated from high school in Hull, Iowa. She married Arnold Kreun on April 23, 1948, in Edgerton. They lived in Edgerton until 1962, when they moved to East Grand Forks. She worked as a supervisor of Crestwood School playground.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Curt (Linda), Grand Forks, Dennis (Ruth), East Grand Forks, Eliot, La Mirada, Calif., and Forest (Brenda), Andover, Minn.; four grandchildren; and brothers, Peter, Gorham, Maine, John, Edgerton, and Bernard, Lennox, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, in the Christian Reformed Church, East Grand Forks, and 2 p.m. Tuesday, in First Reformed Church, Edgerton.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Stennes Funeral Home

Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.

Ruth F. Zeman

Ruth F. Zeman, 78, Ely, Nev., formerly of Grand Forks, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.

Ruth Florence Cash was born Nov. 17, 1920, the daughter of Edward James and Mary Elizabeth (Fahey) Cash, in Lakota. In 1990 she moved to Ely, Nev.

She is survived by her husband, Larry, Ely; sons, Joseph (Billie Sue) Zeman, Ely, William LeRoy Zeman, Grand Forks, Michael Duane (Inez) Laity, Eureka, Nev.; daughters, Kathey (Earl) Hauck, Eugene, Ore., and Shirley (Donald) Browning, Peru, India; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mable Geitzs, Grand Forks, Edna Johnson, Leeds, N.D., and Verniel McGraw, Columbia, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and brothers, Donald, James and John.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ely.

Visitation: 8 p.m. prayer service Monday, Mountain Vista Chapel, Ely.

Burial: Ely City Cemetery.

Gladys A. Monson

Gladys A. Monson, 92, 1311 Chestnut St., died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, in Altru Hospital.

Gladys Alberta Johnston was born Oct. 26, 1906, the daughter of George and Ottilia (Lepp) Johnston, in Minneapolis. She was raised in Grand Forks by her mother and step father Henry Knutson. She graduated from Central High School in 1926. She married Harry Monson on Dec. 26, 1927, in Grand Forks. They lived in Fargo before returning to Grand Forks. Harry Monson died Nov. 9, 1990.

She is survived by sons, Gerald (Kathy), Bellevue, Neb., Eugene, Grand Forks, and David, Big Sur, Calif.; daughters, Darlene Holien, Grand Forks, and Dorothy (Doug) Patrick, Santa Cruz, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Willard.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, United Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, Amundson Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery.

Alice DuBois

FORT TOTTEN, N.D. -- Alice DuBois, 67, Fort Totten, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.

Alice Faye Joshua was born June 28, 1931, the daughter of John and Mary Rose (Fournier) Joshua, in Fort Totten, where she attended school. She moved to New Rockford in 1971.

She is survived by daughters, Joyce (William) Lunak and Alverda (Shane) Charboneau, both of Devils Lake, and Anne (Henry) Scott, Fort Totten; sons, Justin (Connie), Fort Totten, Richard (Lynn), Summit, S.D., and Raymond, St. Michael, N.D.; 30 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William "Billy", Denver.

She was preceded in death by four grandchildren; her parents; brothers, Lawrence Sr. and Francis; and sisters, Mary French, Josephine Birdsill and Edna Baker.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten.

Visitation: Begins 5 p.m. with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and before services all in the church.

Burial: St. Jerome's Catholic Cemetery, Fort Totten.

Eugene Skjei

Eugene Skjei, 76, 1126 Hammerling Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at home.

Eugene Skjei was born Sept. 12, 1922, the son of Elmer and Bernice (Midland) Skjei, in Grand Forks, where he graduated from Central High School. He joined the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He married Clara Millard on Aug. 7, 1947, in Grand Forks. He worked for the U.S. Postal service as a mail handler until retiring.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Linda (Michael) Swenson, Maplewood, Minn., and Mary Ann (Robert) Boisvert, Penacook, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn (Donald) Nelson, Olympia, Wash.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lyle.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, Amundson Funeral Home.

Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery.

Theresa M. Andresen

EGELAND, N.D. -- Theresa M. Andresen, 57, Minot, formerly of Egeland, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, in a Minot Medical Center.

Theresa Mae Thomas was born Aug. 28, 1941, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Odermann) Thomas, in Cando, N.D. She graduated from high school in Egeland in 1959 and from Minot State University in 1963, with a Bachelor of Science degree in music and English education. She taught in Stanley, N.D., from 1963-66; and Rowland Heights School District, Los Angeles from 1966-67. In 1967 she began teaching for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools. She married Jerry Andresen on June 16, 1972, in Asperg, Germany. Before retiring in 1994, she taught in Stuttgard, Germany, Rota, Spain, Manama, Bahrain, Adana, Turkey, Catania Sicily, and Vilseck, Germany. She completed her Master's degree in school administration at the University of Southern California. She returned to Minot and taught music for Sawyer (N.D.) School and substitute taught in St. John and Rolla, N.D.

She is survived by her husband; sisters, Marlene McEntee, Arcadia, Calif., Kay Peterson, San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Patricia Hight and Peggy Gessner, both of Minot, Mary Kranig, Elk Grove Village, Ill., and Betty Angus, Lakeville, Minn.; brothers, William, Drake, N.D., and Richard, Egeland.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Noon to 8: 30 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Lake Upsilon, N.D. Memorials are suggested to International Music Camp.

Marcella Ames

CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Marcella Ames, 74, Carrington, formerly of Grace City, N.D., died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in Carrington Health Center.

Marcella Hoffart was born May 10, 1924, the daughter of Joseph and Ida (Nelson) Hoffart, in Eckelson, N.D., where she attended school. She worked for area farmers as a housekeeper. She later moved to Valley City, N.D., and worked in a restaurant. She married Ronald Ames on Oct. 29, 1946, in Sanborn, N.D. They farmed in the Wimbledon and Leal, N.D., area, until 1972. She also cooked for North Central School. In 1973, they moved to Grace City, where they farmed. She worked in area restaurants and as the manager of Prairie Inn in Carrington. Ronald Ames died March 12, 1996. She moved to Carrington in August 1998.

She is survived by sons, Kenneth (Becky), Sheyenne, N.D., Bill (Angie), Lisbon, N.D., and Paul (Margo), Fargo; daughters, Karen (Ronald) Schwalk, Woodworth, N.D., Delores (Francis) House, Grace City, and Kathy (David) Edland, Lisbon; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Leonard (Elaine), Sanborn, N.D., and Linus (Beulah), Jamestown; and sisters, Rita (Ray) Weber, Valley City, Rozella (Raymond) Hanson, Lake Stevens, Wash., and Ardis (Duane) Larsen, New Hampton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Mervin; and a sister, Margaret Weber.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Burial: Carrington Cemetery.

Patsy Cook

WALHALLA, N.D. -- Patsy Cook, 47, Walhalla, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Patsy L. Lafferty was born Sept. 25, 1950, the daughter of William and Florence (Goulet) Lafferty, in Grafton, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Walhalla. She worked for Johnson Farms and the Pembilier Nursing Center, both in Walhalla. She married Fred Cook on April 30, 1982, in Walhalla.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Chris, Grand Forks, and Warren, Walhalla; a daughter, Desirae Cook, Walhalla; a stepdaughter, Kristie Rousseau, Tacoma, Wash.; a stepson, Chad Cook, Federal Way, Wash.; six grandchildren; sisters, Irene Oulette and Joyce Fields, both of Walhalla, and Evelyn Lafferty, Grand Forks; and brothers, Larry, and Frances, both of Walhalla, and Aldrin, Grand Forks.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Wayne and Lavern.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla.

Visitation: 5: 30 to 7: 30 p.m. Sunday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, in the church.

Burial: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery (Nelson, Walhalla).

Harriet Hertsgaard

Harriet Hertsgaard, 74, 2907 Clover Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.

Harriet Owen was born May 23, 1924, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Hedland) Owen, in Kindred, N.D., where she attended school. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College. She taught school in Grand Forks and Kindred. She also taught private piano lessons in West Fargo. She married Philip Hertsgaard on Aug. 10, 1947, in Kindred. They owned the "Why Not Shop" from 1983 to 1994 in the South Forks Plaza, Grand Forks. Philip Hertsgaard preceded her in death.

She is survived by sons, John (Louise), and David, both of Minneapolis; a daughter, Mary Hertsgaard, Grand Forks; a brother, Wallace (Betty) Owen, Bismarck; and a sister, Donna Owen, Fargo.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Calvary Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.

Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.

The Rev. Marvin L. Keen

BINFORD, N.D. -- The Rev. Marvin L. Keen, 73, Fargo, formerly of Binford, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at home.

Marvin Lain Keen was born Feb. 7, 1925, the son of Daniel Luther and Freda Marie (Reiter) Keen, in Marion, Ind. He joined the U.S. Air Force in May 1943 and served until 1946. He returned to Columbus, Ohio, and attended Capitol University and Trinity Seminary, graduating in 1954. He married Marlys Jeannine Keffeler on July 6, 1952, in Hamilton, Mont. He served churched in Hamilton and Scobey, Mont., Oak Forest and Chicago, Ill., Beach, Horace and Binford, N.D., Kansas City, Mo., Fargo, and Oriska, N.D.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Benjamin (Mary), Grand Rapids, Minn., and Daniel (Loretta), Des Moines, Iowa; daughters, Jeannine (Jim) Wilcox, Buffalo, N.D., Ramona (Jerome) Gunderson, Thompson, N.D., and Sharon (Scott) Wellendorf, Independence, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren, a great-grandchild; and a brother, Harry Richard (Barb), Murrieta, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Tuesday, Horace (N.D.) Lutheran Cemetery.

Cyrus V.M. 'Bud' Williamson

Cyrus V.M. "Bud" Williamson, 76, formerly of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at home in Fairfax, Va.

Cyrus V. M. Williamson was born Jan. 14, 1922, the son of Syvert and Mathilde (Larson) Williamson, in Grand Forks, where he graduated from high school in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Ethel Mills on Feb. 23, 1945, in Washington, D.C. They lived in Washington, where he worked for the William J. Burns Detective Agency, managing the Washington office. He then worked for 25 years inthe Office of Chief of Naval Operations in the Nuclear Systems Support Branch of the Navy Atomic Energy Office. He retired in 1977.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Anderson, Alexandria, Va.; a brother, Orville, Moorhead; and a sister, Annabelle Williamson, Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Mark; and a sister, Yvonne Matejcek

Burial: Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery.
