Rose Marie Ling
Rose Marie Ling, age 69 of rural Lemmon, SD passed from this life to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at her home North of Lemmon, SD. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Zoar Congregational Church in Mott, ND with the Reverend Cory Warner officiating.
Rose was born March 17, 1935 in Chelsea, MA, the daughter of Emrico and Jennie (Barilone) DeChiara. She was raised in Chelsea and attended school until she was 13 when she left school on a work permit to help support her family. She married Byron "Bud" Ling November 27, 1952 after their first date. They were together for 52 years. Rose was a housewife all the while but worked outside the home when her family was grown.
Rose was a CNA and an excellent cook both at home and in the hospitals and Nursing Homes she worked in. It was noted during pheasant season when the hunters would gather at the Ling place for Rose’s peanut butter cookies and Bud’s coffee. Her cookies brought even retired Generals from far and near off the hunt just to taste them.
Although Rose’s formal education was limited, she did earn a "PHT" Degree "Putting Husband Through" Seminary. Rose was the quiet one of the Lings and usually let Bud do all the talking. But she did her work in the background and always let someone else take the credit. They moved 21 times and lived in 13 states. Without her input in marriage and the ministry Bud could have never survived 43 ½ years in ministry.
Rose died on their anniversary under Bud’s care at their home north of Lemmon. Rose and Bud became as one flesh, a unity only broken by death.
Rose is survived by her husband Bud; five sons: Byron (Donna) and John, Holly, MI; Robert, Bridgeport, WA; David (Pat), Hebron, ND; and Paul (Kathy), Wenatchee, WA.
