Leo J. 'Bud' Haugen
BEMIDJI -- Leo J. "Bud" Haugen, 77, Bemidji, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at North Country Rehabilitation Center, Bemidji.
Leo John Haugen was born Jan. 23, 1921, the son of Ole and Edith (O'Grady) Haugen, in Bemidji, where he graduated from high school. He worked in the Works Project Administration. He worked at his father's tavern, Ole's Poor Air-Conditioned Tavern for several years. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1942 to November 1944.
He is survived by brothers, Lyle, Black River Falls, Wis., and Larry (MaryAnn), North Little Rock, Ark.; and a sister, Gladyce (Larry) Grimm, Bemidji.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Lowell and Norbert; and sisters, Lola Church and Bette Lou Casey.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Philip's Catholic Church, Bemidji.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji.

Morris Roadfeldt
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Morris Roadfeldt, 73, Thief River Falls, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Convalescent Nursing Care Unit of the Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Morris Raymond Roadfeldt was born Dec. 11, 1924, the son of John and Alma (Nilson) Roadfeldt, in Salol, Minn. He attended school in Salol and graduated from high school in Roseau, Minn., in 1944. He married Betty Bergland on June 21, 1952, in Roseau. They moved to Thief River Falls. He worked for Montgomery Ward, Thief River Falls, as a furniture salesman from October 1951 to July 1959. He worked for Sjoberg's Appliance and TV. He retired in 1989.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Debra (Stan) Ehrenstrom, Warroad, Minn.; a son, Jeff (Jane), Warroad; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Eunice Mundt, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and brothers, George, Minneapolis, and Elmer (Olive) Lamberton, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a son, Roger; and brothers, Harold, Clarence, Edgar and Robert.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Elmer E. Gangelhoff
Elmer E. Gangelhoff, 67, formerly of Grand Forks, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at MedCenter One Hospital, Bismarck.
Elmer E. Gangelhoff was born Sept. 30, 1931, the son of William and Sophia (Northway) Gangelhoff, in Brook Park, Minn. He grew up in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1950. In 1952, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He returned to Grand Forks and was a union sheet metal worker who worked on projects in many places in the United States. He married Helen Lund on Nov. 7, 1954, in Grand Forks.
He is survived by sons, Vincent, Gregory and Duane, all of Grand Forks, Bruce, Finley, N.D., and Wendell, Northwood, N.D.; a daughter, Roxanne Skinner, Medford, Ore.; seven grandchildren; brothers, Harold, Grand Forks, William, San Mateo, Calif., Jerome, Alta Loma, Calif., and Theodore, Fargo; and sisters, Pearl Johnson, Hibbing, Minn., and Deloris Smith, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Eva Harpster and Evelyn Donnelly.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery.
Henry Kovar
Henry Kovar, 92, formerly of East Grand Forks, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Warren (Minn.) Hospital.
Henry J. Kovar was born June 25, 1906, the son of Joseph and Mary (Vasek) Kovar, in Reynolds, N.D. He moved with his family to Tabor, Minn. From 1935 to 1942, he was a deputy sheriff for Polk County (Minn.) Sheriff Department. He married Adeline Falk. From 1942 to 1945, he moved to Cleveland, where he worked on airplane engines for Thompson Products. They moved to East Grand Forks in 1945 and farmed in the Tabor area until retiring in 1967.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Catherine Foy, Santa Barbara, Calif.; sons, Linus, Santa Barbara, and Mark, La Plata, N.M.; sisters, Anna Wavra and Christine Kovar, both of Grand Forks, and Emily Arnold, Cohasset, Minn.; and brothers, Frank, Bill, George and Albert, all of East Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph; and a sister, Mary Lange.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.

Pauline K. Carroll
BEMIDJI -- Pauline K. Carroll, 90, Bemidji, formerly of Austin, Minn., died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, in Beltrami Nursing Home, Bemidji.
Pauline K. Carroll was born May 3, 1908, the daughter of Henry Bright and Blanche (Kerlin) Seal, in Quincy, Ill. She graduated from college with a teaching degree. She married John Victor Carroll on June 13, 1936. They moved to London, Minn., where they farmed. In 1956, they moved to Austin. She worked for St. Olaf Hospital in the housekeeping department and later became head of the linen department. She retired in 1973. She had lived in Bemidji since December 1995. Victor Carroll died March 9, 1964.
She is survived by daughters Monica (Bill) French, Belleview, Fla., and Helen (Dave) Skeim, Bemidji; a daughter-in-law, Marge Carroll, Medford, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Duane; a brother; and two sisters.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Monday, St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. and 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, and noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Mayer Funeral Home, Austin.

Fern Kurtz
DEVILS LAKE -- Fern Kurtz, 73, Bismarck, formerly of Devils Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital.
Fern Risovi was born Dec. 30, 1925, the daughter of Frank and Lena (Hagen) Risovi, in Hamburg, N.D. She moved with her family in 1926 to Devils Lake, where she graduated from high school in 1944. She attended Mercy School of Nursing, Devils Lake, from 1944 to 1946. She married Michael Kurtz on Sept. 12, 1946, in Devils Lake. She moved to the Bismarck-Mandan area in 1980.
She is survived by daughters, Patricia Walsh and Linda (Robert) Johnson, both of Bismarck, Cindy Stenhjem and Brenda Kurtz Richey, both of Fargo; sons, Keith and Douglas (Nancy), both of Devils Lake; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; and a sister, Joyce Risovi Putnum.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Charity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, and 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aaker-Dunnigan-Brooks Funeral Home, Devils Lake.

Lloyd A. Montgomery
MANVEL, N.D. -- Lloyd A. Montgomery, 89, Manvel, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Larimore, N.D.
Lloyd Arthur Montgomery was born Dec. 29, 1909, the son of David and Hattie (Bissonnette) Montgomery, in Laurel, Neb. He attended school in Laurel. He moved to the Manvel-Inkster area in 1931. He married Frances Ferguson on April 6, 1935, in Grand Forks. They lived and farmed in Manvel-Inkster. Frances Montgomery died March 8, 1997.
He is survived by a son, Robert (Lynette), Grand Forks; daughters, Berna Dene Iverson, Grand Forks, and Sharon Thompson, Laguna Niguel, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Leonard, Grand Forks; and sisters, Darlyne Martin, East Grand Forks, Mabel Iverson, Grand Forks, and Elnora Helms, White, S.D.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a granddaughter; brothers, Alva and Archie; and a sister, Flora Korff.

Ingeborg Osland
MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Ingeborg Osland, 92, Mayville, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in Union Hospital, Mayville.
Ingeborg Caroline Jacobson was born March 17, 1906, the daughter of Severt and Ella (Olsen) Jacobson, in Finley, N.D., where she attended school. She moved to Mayville and worked. She married David Osland on Nov. 7, 1936, in Mayville. They lived and farmed in Mayville until 1967, when they moved into Mayville. She worked several jobs until her retirement. David Osland died in 1976.
She is survived by a son, James (Gloria), Portland, N.D.; a daughter, Dorothy (Al) Bartolomei, Warren, Mich.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert (Marge), Rockford, Ill.; and sisters, Ruth (Morris) Vigen, Montana, Iowa, Mildred Johnson, Finley, and Florence (Harley) Ludwig and Jane Hanson, both of Portland.
She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Richard; four brothers; and six sisters.

Warren L. Greene
St. MICHAEL, N.D. -- Warren L. Greene, 98, St. Michael, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at home.
Warren Louis Greene was born Dec. 28, 1900, the son of Charles and Mary Ann (Langer) Greene, in Warwick, N.D. He attended school in Fort Totten, N.D. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Roads Department as a road maintainer. He married Agnes Longie on April 29, 1933, in Minnewaukan, N.D.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Orrin, Oberon, N.D., James and Frank, both of St. Michael, and Lawrence, Fort Totten; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Isabel Rusten, Warwick.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Viola; brothers, John, Silas, Francis, David and Angus; and sisters, Elizabeth, Jesse and Mary.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Walter Michaelis
COOPERSTOWN, N.D. -- Walter Michaelis, 85, Cooperstown, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in Griggs County Nursing Home, where he had lived since October 1994.
Walter Michaelis was born March 3, 1913, the son of Ernest and Emma (Hogie) Michaelis, in Hannaford, N.D., where he attended school. He married Borghild Johnson on June 17, 1944, in Cooperstown. They farmed in Cooperstown and Hannaford until retiring and moving into Cooperstown. Borghild Michaelis died Oct. 29, 1991.
He is survived by a son, Bennett, Hannaford; a daughter, Charlotte, Minneapolis; a brother, Kenneth, Cannon Falls, Minn.; and a sister, Deloris (Ralph) Wisdahl, Alderwood Manor, Ore.
He was preceded in death by a son, David; and a sister, Thelma Jungels.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Wednesday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown.

Joyce Burd
HILLSBORO, N.D. -- Joyce Burd, 57, Nielsville, Minn., formerly of Hillsboro, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital.
Joyce Eidem was born Dec. 28, 1942, in Moorhead. She attended school in Borup, Minn., and Crookston. She married Richard Burd on June 30, 1962, in Alexandria, Minn. They lived and farmed in Cummings, N.D. She worked for Climax (Minn.) Credit Union, the Convenience Store in Halstad, Minn., and the Halstad newspaper.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Kelly), Hillsboro, Douglas, Nielsville, and Suzanne (Jason) Querze, Madawaska, Maine; a grandson; her mother, Gladys Eidem, Moorhead; and a brother, Gene (Linda), Moorhead.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Salem Lutheran Church, Nielsville.
