Fargo, North Dakota
Memorial services for Pamela A. Atkins, 48, of Fargo, ND, were held on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at Church of the Holy Spirit in Fargo, ND. Inurnment will be at a later date. Pam died Friday, February 16, 2001 at Detriot Lakes, MN.

Pamela Ann Musso was born on January 5, 1953 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She grew up and recieved her education in Durban, South Africa.

Pam married Stephen Atkins on November 25, 1972 in Durban.

In 1985, Pam moved with her family to Enderlin, ND. She was a stay-at-home mother until moving to Fargo, ND in 1988, where she began working as an accountant for several area businesses. She also volunteered for numerous nonprofit organizations for women.

Pam treasurered her relationship with her grandchildren and was active in their lives. She had a passion for gardening and was a gifted artist and interior decorator. She was an extremely classy lady who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Pam is survived by Stephen Atkins, Fargo; daughter, Debbie (Steven) Schons, Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Marissa and Nicholas Schons, Fargo, ND and a brother, Tommy Muso, Capetown, South Africa. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Wade Atkins. 2/28/01

Harold C. Oeder
Buena Park, California
Graveside services for Harold Christian Oeder, 78, of Buena Park, CA will be held in the spring at the Sheldon Cemetery. Harold died Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at the South Pasadena Nursing Home.

Harold was born on August 2, 1922 in rural Sheldon, ND, a son to Otto and Emma (Broen) Oeder. He attended school in Sheldon, graduating from there in 1941. While growing up i Sheldon, he pitched for Junior League baseball in Enderlin, ND. He was also active in Sheldon High School basketball. After the war, eh pitched ball for the Sheldon Baseball team and also played basketball on the Sheldon Independent team.

Harold served in the US Army in the European Theatre with the 42nd Rainbow Division from April 1944 to June 1946. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He also served stateside during the Korean War.

Harold worked for Lockhead Aircraft in Burbank, CA, before entering the service. After the war he returned to Sheldon, ND, where he operated a gravel hauling business. After serving again during the Korean War, he moved to Glendale, CA.

Harold married DeLorise Fey on March 16, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Harold worked for Ador Aluminum in Glendale until retiring due to very ill health. He had been a member of the Sheldon Masonic Lodge and Sheldon American Legion.

Harold is survived by his wife, DeLorise, Buena Park, CA; two sisters, Myrtle Oeder and Doris Oeder and a half-sister Florence Oeder, all of Enderlin, ND. He was preceded in death by a sister, Effie Nelson and a brother, Harry and three half-borthers, Oscar, Harvey and Roy. 2/28/01

Kim E. Schonteich
Broomfield, Colorado
Funeral services were held for Kim E. Schonteich, 57, of Bloomfield, CO. Kim died February 11, 2001.

The son of Kenneth and Dorothy Schonteich, was born on December 7, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota He was baptized into the faith as an infant in 1943 by The Rev. Wong of Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota and confirmed in the Christian faith at First Lutheran Church, Enderlin, North Dakota in 1956.

Kim grew up in Enderlin, North Dakota. He attended Enderlin High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He graduated in 1961. It was during his youth in Enderlin that Kim achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Kim attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 1962, and later graduated from the University of Minnesota. He served in the United States Air Force from 1964 -1967, stationed in Germany. He received an honorable discharge in 1967. In 1968 he began employment at Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis.

On October 16, 1971 Kim married Sharon Lee Erdahl in Louisburg, Minnesota. They built their first home in Minnetonka, Minnesota in 1971 while Kim was employed at Control Data. Their son Eric was born on April 5,1972 at Metropolitan Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their daughter Jill was born on her father’s birthday, December 7, 1975, also at Metropolitan Medical Center. The Vikings were playing that Sunday and the trip to the hospital had to wait until halftime. All proceeded well and upon arrival at the hospital Kim vanished to the nearest TV lounge to receive an update on the game. He was a big Viking fan.

In 1977 Kim took a position with StorageTek in Louisville. He arrived for an interview in January of 1977, was offered a position and was amazed that he did not have to wear a jacket in January in Colorado. The family joined him in May of 1977. In 1985 Kim left StorageTek. He started a printing business which he operated until 1996. The family moved into their present home on Belero in 1985.

Kim was an avid golfer. He was a passionate fan of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. He loved baseball and football remaining a fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings after moving to Colorado. Kim was a history buff, enjoying the history channel and owning many video cassettes of war movies. His dog, Sam, was a rescued greyhound adopted through the Max Fund, an organization dedicated to the rescue of greyhound racing dogs.

Kim survived kidney cancer, recovering through much of 1997 and into 1998. In April of 1999 he joined Lowe’s building supplies where he was employed through November, 2000. Kim was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in November 2000, underwent chemotherapy in December 2000 and January 2001. He was admitted to Avista Adventist Hospital on January 31, 2001 where he remained until his death.

Kim is survived by his wife Sharon of Broomfield, CO; his son Eric, of Broomfield, CO; his daughter Jill of Northglenn, CO; his mother, Dorothy Roeser of Minneapolis, MN, his brother Barry of Grand Forks, ND, his nephew, Leif and niece Livia of Grand Forks; sister Susan Cavett and her husband Gary, of Fargo, ND; and his nephews Cory, and Cyle Cavett of Fargo, ND and Christopher Cavett of Broomfield, CO and niece Becky Cavett of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, and his sister, Jane Arbeiter/Schonteich.

The family requests that memorials be given to The American Cancer Society. 2/28/01

Ernest F. Langer
Fargo, North Dakota
Funeral services for Ernest F. Langer, 84, of Fargo, ND were held on Monday, February 19, 2001 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo, ND with Reverend John Cavanaugh officiating. Pallbearers were Ken Hagiber, Ernie Hartl, Dennis Langer, Gene Nygaard, Lowell Laufenberg and Morris Dimmer. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Matthew Langer, Molly Langer, Carrie Langer, Erin Schloesser, Erika Schloesser, Neil Schloesser, Diana Roberts and Debra Thompson. Music was provided by cantor Abby Rheault and organist Tony Rheault. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fargo, ND. Ernest died Friday, February 16, 2001 at Villa Maria Care Center in Fargo.

Ernest was born on April 10, 1916 in Alice, ND. He grew up and attended country school in the Alice, ND area.

Ernest married Beatrice Stangler in 1938 and farmed on the family farm until 1957. After moving to Fargo, ND, he was employed by Cass Clay Creamery for 25 years until his retirement.

Ernest was active in the Eagle’s, Knights of Columbus, Alice Senior Club and church. He enjoyed spending time with family, being a caregiver, playing cards and dancing. His sense of humor and sparkling smile will be missed.

Ernest is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beatrice, Fargo, ND; a daughter, Monica (Michael) Schloesser, Fargo, ND; a son, Gary (Christine), St. Paul, MN; daughter-in-law, Karen Langer, Minneapolis, MN; sister Sadie Hartl, Fargo, ND and by eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Emil and Rudolph and a son, Ronald. 2/21/01

Frank J. Mark
Enderlin, North Dakota
Funeral services for Frank J. Mark, 80, of Enderlin, ND were held on Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Enderlin, ND with Reverend Arlyn Coalter officiating. Pallbearers were Wyatt Fernow, Jeremy Johnson, Barry Fernow, Kirk Heinz, Kris Mark and Chris Heinz. Honorary pallbearers were all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Music was provided by organist Gretchen Hoy and soloist Reverend Arlyn Coalter. Burial will be at Pontiac Cemetery in rural Enderlin, ND. Frank died Friday, February 16, 2001 at Hillcrest Manor in Enderlin.

Frank was born on June 21, 1920 in Sheldon, ND, a son to Joseph and Frances (Triscol) Mark. He attended school in Sheldon, graduating from the Sheldon High School.
Frank married Violet Glaser on September 12, 1940 in Moorhead, MN.

Frank and Violet operated a grain and livestock farm northeast of Enderlin, ND until retiring in 1978. During the winter months, Frank had worked at the Leonard Lumber Yard and in maintenance at Dakota Hospital in Fargo, ND. He was also an Agsco Seed Dealer for many years, and did custom baling for several neighbors. He also worked at the Anselm Bird Seed Plant in Anselm, ND. After retirement, Frank and Violet spent many winters in Laughlin, Nevada where they met many new friends. Frank entered Hillcrest Manor on June 10, 1999.

Frank is survived by his wife, Violet, Enderlin, ND; a son, Steve (Cindy), Enderlin, ND; three daughters, Marilyn (Harold) Patten, Sumner, WA, Susan (David G.) Johnson, Kindred, ND and Sandra (Rodney) Fernow, Enderlin, ND; a brother, Joseph, Phoenix, AZ; three sisters, Florence Anderson and Anna Mae Bunn, both of Sheldon, ND and Doris (Manfred) Walhood, Leonard, ND and by fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Ed and Carl and by two sisters, Barb and Velma. 2/21/01

Kielah M. Miller
Fargo, North Dakota
Kielah M. Miller, 90, of Fargo, ND died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at her home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kielah M. Hopperstad was born on January 1, 1911 in Enderlin, ND, where she grew up and graduated from high school.

Kielah married Wilfred Miller on July 20, 1930 in Moorhead, MN. They retired to Pelican Lake, MN in 1974.

Kielah is survived by her husband, Wilfred; a son, Wilfred C.J. (Barbara), Chicago, IL; three daughters, Marilyn Miller, Fargo, ND; Joyce Ghosh (Benoy), Austin, TX and Karen (Scott) Reid, Boise, ID; a brother, Jewett Hopperstad, Fairfield Glade, TN and by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. 2/21/01

Alfred J. Pfaff
New Rockford, North Dakota
Memorial services for Alfred J. Pfaff, 66, of New Rockford, ND were held on Friday, February 16, 2001 at Evans Funeral Home in New Rockford, ND with Reverend Jerome Hunkler officiating. Alfred died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at the Carrington Health Center in Carrington, ND.

Alfred James, also known as Jim, was born on May 20, 1934 at Litchville, ND, a son to August and Eleanor (Miller) Pfaff. They lived on farms in the Litchville and Kathryn, ND areas. They later moved to a farm near Nome, ND. He worked as a farm hand for many years near Courtenay, ND for Darrell and David Soupins. When Alfred left the Soupins farm, he moved to Jamestown, ND. He later moved to the 4th Corporation Group Home in New Rockford, ND.
Alfred enjoyed car racing and attended many stock car races in Jamestown, ND at the Speedway. He also enjoyed watching his nephew race in Lisbon, ND. He enjoyed country music, radio, TV, family picnics and gatherings with family and friends.
Alfred is survived by three brothers, Eugene Pfaff, Fargo, ND, Robert Pfaff, Huachuca, AZ and Elmer Pfaff, Wapheton, ND; two sisters, Alice Hardke, LaMoure, ND and Margaret Schall, Enderlin, ND; and by many nieces and nephews. Also by his wonderful staff at the 4th Corporation Group Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lillian and two brothers, Wilber and Lawrence. 2/21/01

Gladys Sommerfeld
Fargo, North Dakota
Funeral services for Gladys Sommerfeld, 89, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Embden, ND were held on Saturday, February 17, 2001 at St. John Lutheran Church in Embden, ND with Reverend John Flaa officiating. Pallbearers were Todd Sommer-feld, William Sommerfeld, Tim Monson, Bruce Foley, Timothy Schultz and Michael Schultz. Honorary pallbearers were Lyle Schultz and Larry Sommerfeld. Music was provided by organist Eunice Pflinger and soloist Robert Lemke. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Embden. Gladys died Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Villa Maria Care Center in Fargo, ND.

Gladys Mildred was born on March 9, 1911 near Sheldon, ND, the oldest of five children born to William and Martha (Schmidt) Kellermann. She was baptized and confirmed in Pontiac Lutheran Church in Enderlin, ND.

Gladys married William Sommerfeld on June 26, 1929 in the Pontiac Lutheran Church. They worked a short time at the Fowler Farm near Durbin, ND, where she was a cook. They farmed continuously in the Embden area during their married life. In the spring of 1942, they bought the Paul Marschke farm, one-half mile east of Embden, where Gladys lived until 1998, when she entered Villa Maria Care Center. Bill died on February 27, 1995.

Gladys was an active membre of the St. John Lutheran Church at Embden for over 60 years. She taught Sunday School for many years and held various offices with the church women.
Gladys enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren and the Lutheran World Relief. She was a charter member of the Four Corners Senior Citizens.

Gladys is survived by three sons, Harley (Carol) Mahnomen, MN, Herbert (Anita), Embden, ND and Duane (Barbara), Forest Lake, MN; two daughters, Jeannette (Darrell) Schultz, Jamestown, ND and Shirley (David) Bourdeaux, Carpentersville, IL; a brother, Wilbert (Theodora) Kellermann, Sheldon, ND; a sister, Evangeline ‘Tudy’ Good, Weston, OR and by fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren and one step-great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, both parents and sisters, Loris Walhood and Mildred Koetz. 2/21/01
