Jerry Jerdee
Benson, MN

Jerry Jerdee, age 75, of Benson, died Wednesday at the Golden Living Center – Meadow Lane in Benson, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on, Monday, October 15th, 2012, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, with Rev. Roger Olness officiating. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.

Gerald “Jerry” Edward Jerdee was born on April 17, 1937 in Enderlin, North Dakota, the son of Edward Melvin and Helen Ann (Pederson) Jerdee. He was baptized on December 4, 1937 and confirmed on June 24, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Enderlin, ND. He grew up in Enderlin where he graduated from grade and high school. He then graduated from Jamestown University. Jerry taught math and coached in Clinton, MN from 1959 to 1966. He taught math and coached basketball, football and track in Benson, MN from 1966 to 1999. On July 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Grace Marie Wefald. This union was blessed with four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Together they were able to share in 57 years of marriage.

Jerry was content with the simple things of life. He thoroughly enjoyed his children and grandchildren, watching sports – especially college – on TV, Western movies, John Wayne, politics, good music – everyone from the Gaithers to Hank Williams to the Rolling Stones, a good steak (nothing flaming!), gardening, and reminiscing with former coaches, athletes, and students. Jerry was a member of the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association, the Jamestown College J. Club, the Ushers Club at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame at Jamestown College.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Grace; children, Barbara (Robin) Lamppa of Fargo, ND, Diane (Ron) Hills of Dilworth, MN, and Robert Jerdee of Benson; grandchildren, Kari Khan, Kristiina Lamppa, Kelli Lamppa, Rachelle Brown, Ashley Brown, Miranda Brown, Tate Jerdee, Maria Jerdee, Amanda Beals, Steven Beals, Teagan Overturf, Victoria Arnold, and Darrell Brown; great-grandchild, Nolan Gerald; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his son, Steven Jerdee; granddaughter, Nicole; parents, Edward and Helen Jerdee; grandparents, Andrew and Ingeborg Jerdee, Hans and Mary Pederson.

Donald L. Piehl
Valley City, ND
Donald L. Piehl age 71 of Valley City died Tuesday December 30, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 3, 2004 in The Church of The Nazarene in Valley City with Reverend Ron Keysor officiating. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery at Valley City in the spring.
Donald LeRoy Piehl was born October 3, 1932 at Marion, North Dakota, the son of John and Fern (Mart) Piehl. Donald grew up and attended school in Marion. He then came to Valley City and graduated from College High School in 1951. Don attended and graduated from Valley City State University. He married Patricia "Pat" Johnson November 23, 1955 at Aberdeen, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Forman, North Dakota where Don taught band at Forman High School and later named Sargent Central High School from 1957 until 1966. He then moved to Wahpeton and taught band at Wahpeton High School from 1966 until retiring in 1990. Don and Pat moved to Valley City in December of 1993.
Don's life was music and was involved with many different organizations including The EBC Hit Parade Band and The Campus Cadets at Valley City State University, The Don Piehl Orchestra "Sounds Of Yesteryear", he started The Wahpeton Elks Club Band called "The Jolly Corks", The SE Jazz Band, long time director of the North Dakota State Legion Band and played in many Road Bands in the area. Don was a member of The Valley City Eagles Club, The Valley City Elks Club, The Wahpeton Elks Club, The El Zagel Shrine Club of Fargo, The Masonic Lodge and was an avid hunter and a member of The National Rifle Association.
Don is survived by his wife Pat, Valley City, two brothers Walter (Hattie) Piehl, Marion and Howard (Eleanor) Piehl, Bismarck, one sister, Yvonne (Erling) Holm, Romalis, Michigan, numerous nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Harold and Roger Piehl.

Arvid W. “Obbie” Berglund
Funeral services for Arvid W. “Obbie” Berglund were held at First Lutheran Church in Enderlin on Friday, January 2 at 2pm with Rev. Norm Anderson officiating. Obbie died at home at the age of 84 on December 30, 2003. Jack Armstrong was the soloist and Verna Armstrong organist.
Pallbearers were Ross Berglund, Wayne Berglund, Arnie Bratland, Jerome Klonecky, Leo Reis and Al Stolz. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren. Burial was at the Enderlin Cemetery.
Obbie was born on January 29, 1919 at Glenfield, ND, the son of Charles and Elva Tyson Berglund. He attended Enderlin schools, graduating in 1938. He served in the CCC’s and in the U.S. Army during WWII from December 30, 1941 to November 20, 1945. He married Mae Johanneson on June 15, 1946 at Lisbon, ND. Obbie worked on the Soo Line Railroad until August 1969 when he retired because of a disability. He was a charter member of the Enderlin VFW.
Obbie is survived by his wife Mae, Enderlin, ND; two sons, Arvid Jr. “Swede” (Laura), Las Cruces, NM and Darrell (Kathy), Hazen, ND; two daughters, Doreen (John) Oehlke and Elva (Jerry) Engstrom, both of Enderlin, ND; 12 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Gloria), Port Orchard, WA. He was preceded in death by brothers Adolph, Bernie and John.

Richard S. Brumfield
Fargo
Richard S. Brumfield, 75 4783 10th Ave. S.W., Fargo, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, in his home under hospice care.
Mr. Brumfield was born May 17, 1928, in Forman, ND. He later moved to Enderlin, ND. In 1951 he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War until 1953. He then returned to North Dakota. On April 1, 1951, he married Betty Lee Sayler in Enderlin. He graduated from North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, in 1955 with a degree in architectural drafting and estimating. They moved to Fargo, where he worked for Bardwell Robinson Co. until 1965. He worked for Andersen Windows until 1968. He also worked for the state laboratory in Bismarck, the Cass County Health Department, and Fargo Health Department, retiring in 1989.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard (Rhoda), Cincinnati; two daughters, Lurale March, of Florida, Sandra (Terry) Baumgarten, Peoria, IL; a brother, Roger (Audrey), West Fargo; a sister, Roberta (Kent) Cable, Grand Forks, ND; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 7th, 2004 at 3pm at Lutheran Church of the Cross, West Fargo. Burial will be at the Enderlin City Cemetery.

Lenora Liebenow
Parshall, ND
Funeral services for Lenora Liebenow, 89, Parshall, ND, formerly Fargo, were held on Monday, December 29, 2003 in Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo. Reverend Marvin Schoenfish officiated. Mrs. Liebenow died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 in the Rock View Good Samaritan Center, Parshall.
Lenora Schulz, daughter of Solomon and Lydia Schulz was born on March 15, 1914 in Elgin ND, where she grew up and attended school until moving to Arthur, ND in 1928.
On November 6, 1937, she married Clinton Liebenow. They lived in West Fargo for six years before moving to Embden where they farmed until 1950. They then moved to Enderlin and resided there until 1976. At which time they moved to Fargo. Mr. Liebenow died on December 9, 1984. Lenora moved to New Town, ND in 1998. She later moved to Parshall in January of 2003.
She is survived by one daughter, Marlys (Royce) Aubol, New Town; three sisters, Ella Rivinius Bismarck, Hulda (Paul) Peck, Moorhead, Lorine Nohr, Fargo; two grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon and Lydia, brothers and sisters, Edwin, Herbert, Elsie, Tillie, Albert and William.
Pallbearers for the funeral were Eric Aubol, Kevin Long, Bill Schulz, James Schulz, Lowell Liebenow, and Gene Hanson. Honorary pallbearers were Erika Long, Alexis Long, Austin Long, Wesley Aubol, Jessica Aubol and Clinton Aubol.
Music was provided by organist Margery Possehl and soloist Chris Kays.
Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Jerome F. Klonecky
Enderlin, ND

Jerome F. Klonecky, age 95, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Lisbon Area Health Services.

He was born September 10, 1917 in Courtenay, ND, to Frank and Florence (Mish) Klonecky.

He graduated from Enderlin High School in 1937. He served in the US Army from January 5, 1942 to October 15, 1945. He served in Normandy, France, Germany, Iceland, England and Belgium. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a clerk and switchman from 1948 to 1979. He was a member of the VFW for 65 years and served as the first commander. He was a member of the American Legion for 67 years and a life member of AmVets.

Jerome is preceded in death by a brother, Larry Klonecky.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Enderlin with Father John Aertz officiating. Burial will be held in Enderlin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Knudsen, Tom Archbold, Frank Egan, Duane Galbreath, Jim Kurtz, and John Oehlke. Honorary pallbearers were All Proud Veterans. Special music was provided by Lynette Schmitz and Nancy Farnham. Organist was Julie Boyle.

Gjerdis A. Green
Enderlin, ND
Funeral services for Gjerdis A. Green, 92, of Enderlin, ND, will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 10am at Fillmore Lutheran Church, rural Enderlin with Rev. Leon Zavadil officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 2 from 2-8pm at Armstrong Funeral Home in Enderlin. Burial will be at Fillmore Lutheran Cemetery. Gjerdis died at her home on May 30, 2004. Special music will be provided by Paul and John Billing and Jodi Bjornson, and Farrah Anderson and organist will be Verna Armstrong. Pallbearers will be Barry Hanson, Craig Hanson, Jeff MacIver, Mike Dyer, John and Paul Billing. Honorary pallbearers will be Carmen Pickering, Valerie Ornellas, Doug Duran, Andrea Gommeson and Kim MacIver.
Gjerdis was born on March 16, 1912 in Enderlin, ND, the daughter of Anton and Jenny Iverson Svedjan. She attended Enderlin School, graduating in 1930. She married Ernest Green on March 18, 1931 at Enderlin. They farmed near Enderlin until 1970 when they retired and moved into Enderlin. Gjerdis worked at City Bakery for two years. She was active in Fillmore Lutheran Church and the Enderlin Senior Citizens.
Gjerdis is survived by four daughters: Beverly Dyer, Hayward, CA, Cheryl (Bill) Mason, Angel Fire, NM, Shirley (Lowell) Hanson, Helena, MT and Kathy (Dave) MacIver, Mandan, ND; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Arnold Svedjan and his wife Joyce Schmoker, LaMoure, ND.

Robert J. Henrikson
Enderlin, ND
Robert J. Henrikson, 67, Enderlin, ND, died on May 25, 2004 at Lisbon Area Health Services in Lisbon, ND. Burial will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Valley City, ND.
Robert was born on July 3, 1936 in Valley City, ND, the son of John F. and Rosa Stemmer Henrikson. He attended school at Fergus Falls, MN grade school and graduated from Fargo South High School. He worked at the Elks Club in Jamestown, the Elks Club in Fargo and Mom’s Diner in Fargo. He was married to Lucy Eslinger.
Robert is survived by one brother, Andrew (Minnie) Smith of Fargo and two sisters, Irene King, Napa,CA and Lillian Salverson, Napa, CA.

Mary Virginia “Ginny” (Kohr) Kemmer
Enderlin, ND
The funeral for Ginny Kemmer, 66, Enderlin, ND will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin with Rev. Mike Toomey officiating. Pall-bearers are Joe Schmitz, Dennis Kemmer, Barry Grindahl, Vance Kemmer, Duane Schlicht and Mike Utke. Honorary pallbearers are David Bot, Kevin Kohr and Ginny’s grandchildren. Special music will be by James and Ethel Cramer’s daughters and granddaughters. Organist is Gretchen Hoy. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery, rural Enderlin. Visitation will be from 11am - 8pm on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin. She died at her home on Saturday, May 29, 2004.
Ginny was born Mary Virginia Kohr on August 13, 1937 in Grace City, ND to Harry and Jeanette Urick Kohr. She attended Grace City School. She moved to Lisbon, ND with her sister, Marie Bot and attended Lisbon High School. During her senior year she attended and graduated from Enderlin High School. Ginny remained in Enderlin after high school in the home of future sister and brother-in-law’s, Ethel and James Cramer. She married Harold M. Kemmer on September 13, 1956 on the Lester and Winnifred Kemmer farm, Alice, ND. Harold and Ginny remained in Alice until moving to Enderlin where they raised their family.
Ginny worked at Bjerke-Nygaard Hardware Store for several years and at the Gable-Glo Drive-In for a few years. She co-owned and operated Hal’s Red Owl in Enderlin until they sold the grocerey store. She then worked for Mitch’s Jack and Jill and Jay’s Food Pride.
Survivors include 4 sons - Keith of Casselton, Kent (Shelly) of Enderlin, Jeff (Teri) of Kensington, MD., Bryan (Kristie) of Enderlin, one daughter - Julie (Tim) Kent of Tyler, MN; sister, Marie Bot of Fargo; four brothers, Tommy (Jan) Kohr of LeGrande, OR and three older brothers.

Almont Percival Strand
Colorado Springs, CO,
formerly of Lisbon, ND
Funeral services for Almont Percival Strand, 90, were held on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 10am at Lisbon Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Norm Anderson and Rev. David Killeen officiating. Mr. Strand died on May 19, 2004 at Colorado Springs, CO. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon. Pallbearers were Jeff Kelsen, Tom McMahon, Mike McMahon, Pat McMahon, Kenny McMahon, and Rich McMahon. Jan Hansen was organist.
Almont was born on April 1, 1914 at rural Halliday, ND, the son of Albert and Jane Olson Strand. He attended Big Flat Consolidated School near Halliday and later attended Balzaar Business College and Northwestern College of Speech Arts in Minneapolis, MN. He married Mary Ann McMahon on November 8, 1942 at Enderlin, ND. Almont farmed near Lisbon. In 1982 he and Mary moved into Lisbon. After Mary’s death, April 10, 2001, Almont moved to Colorado.
Almont served as secretary-treasurer of Big Bend Telephone Company. He also served as a director for 10 years for the Ransom County Crop and Livestock Association. He was a member of the National Hereford Association of Kansas City, MO, the ND Hereford Association and the Ransom County Hereford Association. He was a member of the Lisbon Eagles Club.
Almont is survived by four daughters: Sylvia Cole, Dickinson, ND, Gaylene (Larry) Leonard, Sandee (Greg Cote) Strand, and Lynn (Marty) Lazechke, all of Colorado Springs, CO; one son: Allan, Colorado Springs, CO; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; one brother, Allan (Dorothy), Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by siblings Lester, Evalyn, Amy and Gladys.

Catherine Anderson
Bremerton, WA
Catherine Florence Hill Anderson, 102, of Bremerton, WA died Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center on Bainbridge Island. There was a private gathering of family and friends with entombment at Sunrise Terrace Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton. An online memorial can be viewed at www.lewischapel.com
Catherine was born on July 30, 191 in Fond du Lac, WI, to Ida Mae and Walter A. Hill. She attended high school in Enderlin, ND. On December 6, 1923 she married Arthur Russell Anderson in Moorhead, MN. He preceded her in death in 1982. She and her husband farmed in Spring Valley, then opened a variety store. They moved back to Enderlin and owned a store there. During the Depression, they moved to Bremerton and she worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a supply clerk.
Mrs. Anderson was a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Reliance Chapter No. 70 in Bremerton. She was of the Methodist faith.
Catherine is survived by five nieces, Myrna Hill Johnson, Bainbridge Island, WA, Barbara Hill Stanley, Rancho Mirage, CA, Sandra Hill, Keyport, WA, Ardis Fretland Brown, Roseburng, OR, and Lois Fretland Newby, Orange, CA; a nephew, Frederick Bohm Jr. of Enderlin; a sister-in-law, Jessie McCarthy of St. Paul, MN; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Doris Fretland and Gladys Bohm and brother James L. Hill.
