Lorne was also a member of the Historical Society of Buffalo, the Valley City Eagles, the Buffalo Senior Citizens and a local card club.

When it was time for Lorne to move from Buffalo, it was very hard, but he accepted that also, knowing that he probably would not be able to come back to visit the many people he knew.
Lorne made many “new” friends in Custer, SD, but he never forgot his family and friends in the Buffalo area and would often tell his “new” friends about Buffalo and the people he had to leave behind. Lorne resided at Custer Regional Long Term Care since November of 2002. Lorne attended church services in Custer almost every Sunday and enjoyed singing along with the hymns. Lorne talked of the past and many days he thought he was out farming or working on the farm equipment or milking cows.
