Rev. Canon Nelson
The Rev. Canon T. Christian Nelson, 74, Deer Lodge, Mont., formerly of Mandan, died Aug. 17, 1996, in Deer Lodge. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Thursday at St. James' Episcopal Church, Deer Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Joann; three sons, David, Maumee, Ohio, Douglas, Paris, France, and Andrew, Seattle; three daughters, Peggy Miller, Missoula, Mont., Annie Bergin, Seattle, and Dorothy Zerbe, Shawano, Wis.; two brothers, Edwin, Denver, and John, Lisbon; and one sister, Marjory Nelson-Hoekje, San Francisco, Calif.

Hattie Erickson
WILLISTON -- Hattie Erickson, 96, Williston, died Aug. 17, 1996, in the Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by two sons, Eldon, Bay Center, Wash., and Peter, Littleton, Colo.; two daughters, Vira Stenehjem, Williston, and Ruth Carlson, McIntosh, Minn.; and two sisters, Ella Carlson, Minneapolis, and Esther Halgrimson, McGregor. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Axel Helberg
WILLISTON -- Axel Edwin Helberg, 93, Williston, died Aug. 17, 1996, in the Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Home, Williston, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by one son, Walter, Williston. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston)

Olga Hoff
Olga Hoff, 90, 218 W. Rosser Ave., died Aug. 19, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Stanley Malmgren and Emmett Dosier officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Olga was born Dec. 24, 1905, in Germany, the daughter of Gottlieb and Ida (Herman) Klatt. She traveled from Germany with her parents when she was 1-year old to a homestead north of Dunn Center. She moved to Bismarck in her teens and worked at the First Baptist Church before marrying Adam Hoff in 1925. She has continued to be a member of First Baptist Church. Olga and Adam bought a home at 218 W. Rosser Ave. in 1926, where she lived until entering the nursing home. Her first love was her family. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Robert Johnson, Bodega Bay, Calif., and Karen and Arnold Jochim, Omaha, Neb.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Alvin and Mary, Carmichael, Calif., and Kenneth, Homestead, Fla.; one sister, Emelia Hettick, Regan; one brother, Henry Klatt, Killdeer; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1976; two sisters, Bertha Strobel and Hulda Goetz; and three brothers, Gottleib, John and Jacob.

The family prefers memorials to First Baptist Church, Bismarck.

Irving Fitzsimmons
CENTER -- Irving "Ted" Fitzsimmons, 58, Center, died Aug. 17, 1996, in a drowning accident near Birchdale, Minn. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Center, with the Rev. Austin Vetter officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday after 9 a.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Irving Fitzsimmons was born Oct. 2, 1937, at Harlem, Mont., the son of Irving and Lucy (O'Bryan) Fitzsimmons. He worked on power line construction in Montana for several years and married Joan Orgaard, Oct. 3, 1959, at Great Falls, Mont. They moved to the Center area in 1973. He worked for Northern Improvement Co. for two years and had been employed by BNI Coal Co. since 1975. Ted was an avid fisherman and enjoyed boating and camping. He loved creating and doing things with his welding talents.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; one daughter, Laurie McLean, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Jody, Center; six granddaughters and one grandson; four sisters, Janice Clawson, Flagstaff, Ariz., Irene Gilbert, Harlem, Mont., Bernice Peterson, Havre, Mont., and Mary Sanford, Helena, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and two brothers.

Ervin Leischner
Ervin G. Leischner, 75, Bismarck, died Aug. 20, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. A private family service will be held.

Ervin was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Elgin, to Gustav and Emma (Baesler) Leischner. He attended school in Elgin and graduated from high school in 1940. Ervin married Crystal Olson, Aug. 5, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. They made their home in Bismarck where Ervin was a men's clothing salesman for 41 years and worked in various stores in the community. He retired in 1985 from Exclusively Patrick's in Kirkwood Mall, Bismarck.

Ervin is survived by his wife, Crystal; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Signy, Bismarck; one sister, Mildred Youngblood, Coronado, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Varley Olson, Bozeman, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

REEDER -- Olive Pederson Nelson, 94, Reeder, died Aug. 20, 1996, in the Bowman nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Reeder, with burial in Golden Valley Cemetery.

Lillian Gutnik
GRAND FORKS -- Lillian Gutnik, 76, Grand Forks, died Aug. 17, 1996, in a Sioux Falls, S.D. hospital. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Montefiore Cemetery, Grand Forks. Memorial services will be held at noon Saturday on the sixth floor of Columbia Towers, Grand Forks.

Glenda Freitag

Manfred Breen
WILLISTON -- Manfred Breen, 55, Williston, died of cancer, Aug. 20, 1996, at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Alease; three daughters, Sandra Monson, Denise Davis and Dorothy Davis; three sisters, Patricia Reese, Forest Lake, Minn., Gloria Inman, Williston, and Claire Breen, Minnesota; and one brother, Charles, Williston. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Alexander Schneider
WASHBURN -- Alexander ``Alex" Schneider, 86, Washburn, died Aug. 21, 1996, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Edwin's Catholic Church, Washburn, with the Rev. Theodore F. Gustin officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue after 6 p.m. Friday at the church. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

Alexander Peter Schneider was born July 30, 1910, at Yucca Territory in Oliver County, to Leopold and Barbara (Hoffman) Schneider. He grew up on his parent's farm in Oliver County. He married Rose Hoffman, Nov. 21, 1939, in Center. They lived and farmed various homesteads in Oliver County until 1949 when they purchased a farm south of Hensler. He retired from farming in 1975 and moved into Washburn where Alex worked for Hoffmann Motors and later Nordquist Brothers, assembling farm machinery. He enjoyed hobbies of fishing, playing cards and bingo, and traveling. He became a resident of St. Vincent's Care Center at Bismarck on June 6, 1996.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Bill Ziemann, Bismarck, and Eileen and Mike Horning, Dubois, Idaho; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John, Mandan, Ron and Kathy, Mead, Neb., and Tom and Mary, Washburn; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Frances, Port Townsend, Wash., Peter and Rose, Center, Leo, Staples, Minn., Ray and Lois, Steele, and Joe and Jean, Cerritos, Calif.; and four sisters and brothers-in-law, Monica Vogel, Citrus Heights, Calif., Margaret Renner, Laurel, Mont., Frances Schafer, Billings, Mont., and Rose and Tony Mosbrucker, Center.

Stacey Woodbeck
Stacey Woodbeck, 26, 3001 Ohio St., died Aug. 19, 1996, in a vehicle-pedestrian accident. Stacey was born June 25, 1970, in Dickinson, the son of Gary and Victoria Ann (King) Woodbeck. He attended Ann Carlsen School in Jamestown from 1974-1990. He worked as a volunteer at St. Joseph and Trinity hospitals in Minot as a computer operator. He loved reading, football and music. Stacey was chairperson for the Handicap Advocacy and attended the leadership conference in Washington. He also was an advocate for assistive dogs.

A lot of his summers were spent at Clear Lake with his maternal grandparents, Jerome and Ella King, Stanley. Stacey married Pamela Falcon, Jan. 26, 1995, in Bismarck, at the Church of the Nazarene. Her favorite nickname for Stacey was ``Munch Mouth."

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; his mother, Vicki Woodbeck; his stepfather, Gerald Luptak, Redmond, Wash.; his grandparents, Elva Woodbeck, Bowbells, and Jerome and Ella King, Stanley; one brother, Guy and Tina Woodbeck, Federal Way, Wash.; two sisters, Ellen DeWald, Victoria, Texas, and Sandra Henke and her fiance, Doug Swaffield, Redmond; his mother-in-law, Kathy Price, Mandan; two sisters-in-law, Minerua Lund and Correen Falcon, both of Mandan; one brother-in-law, Bill Falcon, Bismarck; his nieces and nephews, Jeremy, Tiffany, Nathan, Jade, Johnathan, Lee, Bomichal, Lyndsay and Tierra; and other relatives and numerous friends.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nazarene, Mandan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Glenn Brown
BUFFALO, S.D. -- Glenn A. Brown, 60, Buffalo, died Aug. 19, 1996, from symptoms associated with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in a Spearfish hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at Harding County High School Gymnasium, Buffalo, with the Rev. Laurie Jungling officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Glenn was born Aug. 30, 1935, at Bowman, the son of George and Edna (Smith) Brown. He received his elementary and secondary education in Scranton. He was baptized and confirmed in the Scranton Lutheran Church. Glenn married Peg Thune, May 16, 1960, at Miles City, Mont. He managed the Passion Play Ranch in Spearfish from 1961-1974. In 1973, Glenn and Peg purchased the Walton and Kathleen Thune ranch northwest of Buffalo from Peg's parents. They moved to the ranch in 1975, where they continued their registered Rambouillet sheep operation started in 1960. Throughout the years, they earned the reputation of one of the premier sheep breeders in the United States. Glenn served as a model and mentor to sheep growers, including starting more than 100 4-H youngsters with gifts of ewe lambs. His enthusiasm, energy and dedication for the sheep industry were evident in his promotion of the lamb and wool industry. His spirit of volunteerism and a vision for a stronger livestock and ranching way of life led to numerous hours of lobbying, state, national and international leadership and market development. Glenn was committed to high ideals and will leave a lasting legacy to his family, community and the sheep industry. It was his philosophy to strive for the best and he did so in his personal life and throughout his professional career.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Brown, in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Peg; two daughters, Deb, Buffalo, and Sharlet, Camp Crook; one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Tracy, Buffalo; three grandchildren, Taylor, Austin and Sterling; his mother, Edna Brown, Bowman; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nola Brown, Bowman, Leora and John Finberg, Paris, Tenn., and Davida and Pat Honstain, Miles City, Mont.; one brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Lauraine Brown, Scranton.

His extended family includes Dalyn McCann, Buffalo, Andawnette, Ariadne and Tony Albright, Belle Fourche, and a multitude of friends and family. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Edmund Schlickenmayer
Edmund ``Ed" Schlickenmayer, 73, 300 15th St. N.W., Mandan, died Aug. 20, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church, Tappen, with the Rev. Grant Piehl officiating. Burial will be in Fisher Cemetery, Tappen.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour before services.

Ed was born Aug. 9, 1923, south of Tappen, the son of August and Margaretta Schlickenmayer. He was raised on the farm south of Tappen and attended a country school. On Nov. 11, 1945, he married Martha Wetzel in Tuttle. After farming a few years, they moved to Bismarck, where Ed worked at various jobs. He worked at Atlas Ready Mix for 23 years until he was disabled in 1978. Ed and Martha then moved to Lake Five, northeast of Steele. They later returned to Bismarck due to health reasons. In 1995, they moved to Liberty Heights in Mandan.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Marlyn and Gwen, Bismarck, Dennis, Stanchfield, Minn., and Kenneth, Cambridge, Minn.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lou Ellen and Joe Hartman, Mobridge, S.D., and Darla and Mike Pfaff, Tappen; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; three step-great-grandsons; and two sisters, Rose Bittner and Lundina Mittleider, both of Tappen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother.

Leona Hauser
TURTLE LAKE -- Leona L. Hauser, 63, Turtle Lake, died Aug. 20, 1996, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Turtle Lake.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; two daughters, Peggy Kraft, Andover, N.H., and Ellen Wood, Everett, Wash.; one son, Wesley Snyder, Seattle; and one sister, Annie Lelm, Turtle Lake. (Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake)

Adeline Vogel
Adeline Vogel, 62, Jamestown, died Aug. 24, 1996, in a Jamestown hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a St. Maria Verein will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30.

Adeline was born Aug. 18, 1934, at Fallon, to Anton and Monica (Berger) Fleck. She was raised and educated in Fallon. She married Matt F. Vogel Oct. 26, 1954, at Fallon. After marriage she lived on a farm near Solen until 1960. She also lived in Wilton and Underwood and most recently in Jamestown.

Adeline enjoyed family gatherings, especially her birthday.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bill and Jeanne, Mandan, and Charles, Colstrip, Mont.; three grandchildren; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, Tony, Elgin, Jerome, and Val and Doris, all of Flasher, Richard, Bismarck, Melvin and Shirley, and Cecelia Geiger, all of Mandan, and Leonard and Maggie, Beulah; and four sisters and brothers-in-law, Hildegarde and Martin Morrell, Lenore and Leonard Haider and Bernie and Harold Schlinger, all of Mandan, and Clara and Mel Beckler, Hazen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Marie; and three brothers, Lucas, Alphonse and Casper.
