He is survived by his wife, Catherine; one daughter, Laurie Massey, Dickinson; one son, David, Naples, Fla.; three sisters, Tuts Bjorlie, San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Clara Gunderson, Turtle Lake, and Alice Johnson, Underwood; and to brothers, Bill, Kansas City, and Don, Underwood.

BELFIELD -- April Peterson, 11, Belfield, died Dec. 21, 1996. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Thursday at Belfield Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her father, Mark Peterson, Bowbells; her mother, Sharlene Peterson, Belfield; one sister, Kristine Peterson, Belfield; her grandparents, Don and Mary Ann Rudland, Flaxton, and Elton Peterson, Bowbells; and her great-grandmother, Lenore Bergstad, Velva.

Bertha Kinstler
WILLISTON -- Bertha Emelia Kinstler, 86, Williston, died Dec. 20, 1996, in the Williston nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Everson Funeral Home, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by one son, Darrell, Madison, Wis.; and one daughter, Claire Kinstler, Williston.

Dallas Kershaw
Dallas Kershaw, 67, Bismarck, died Dec. 23, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Don Olson
LEMMON, S.D. -- Don Olson, 62, Lemmon, died Dec. 22, 1996, in the Lemmon hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lemmon, with burial in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon.

He is survived by his wife, Monica; two sons, Doug and Todd, both of Lemmon; his parents, Alexander Olson, Parkston, and Kathryn Olson, Lemmon; two brothers, LaVerne, Sioux Falls, and Dennis, Rapid City; and one sister, Betty Preszler, Lemmon. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon)

ESMOND -- Ralph Streifel, 74, Columbus, Ga., formerly of Esmond, died Dec. 21, 1996, in a Columbus nursing home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth; five brothers, Leonard, Denver, Elmer, Jamestown, Rueben, Spokane, Wash., James, Houston, Texas, and Henry, Esmond; and two sisters, Delores Mitzel and Agnes Swanson, both of Esmond. (Nelson Funeral Home, Esmond)

RHAME -- Dorothea H.L. Sunden, 84, Bowman, formerly of Rhame, died Dec. 22, 1996, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Friday at First Lutheran Church, Rhame, with burial in Crawford Cemetery, Rhame.

She is survived by one son, Carlyle, Baker, Mont.; and two daughters, Rosalie Krinke, Scranton, and Beverly Huber, Bismarck. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

Edith Miller
DICKINSON -- Edith Miller, 74, Dickinson, died Dec. 23, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; two sons, Larry, Boise, Idaho, and Marvin, South Bend, Ind.; one daughter, JoAnn Wangler, Bismarck; and two sisters, Dorothy Schaan, Rugby, and Mary Ann Binstock, South Heart. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Albert Mueller
STEELE -- Albert Mueller, 49, Steele, died Dec. 24, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Violet Prakel
STEELE -- Violet Prakel, 91, Steele, died Dec. 23, 1996, in the Steele nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Robinson, with the Rev. Marvin Winstryg officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Robinson.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Violet was born Aug. 11, 1905, in Stutsman County, to Seth and Mabel (Posey) Stevenson. She moved with her parents to a homestead north of Robinson in 1906. They later lived in Robinson, Carrington and Jamestown. While living on a farm a mile north of Robinson, Violet married Theo Prakel in 1933. They farmed on the Prakel farm nine miles north of Robinson until they moved to Robinson in 1948. Theodore died in 1969. Violet continued to live in Robinson until her health required assisted-living services. She resided in Golden Manor Nursing Home in Steele until her death.

Violet is survived by cousins, Marybelle Longmuir, Menoken, Mabel Knutson, Tuttle, Monte Posey, Kirkland, Wash., and other cousins including Pat Posey, Lyle Posey and Edith Posey.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Theo.

Dallas Kershaw
Dallas Richard Kershaw, 67, 1119 University Drive, died Dec. 23, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeanine O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in Moffit Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Boelter Funeral Home.

Dallas was born June, 13, 1929, at Menoken, the son of David and Martha (Wohl) Kershaw. He was raised and educated at Menoken. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. Dallas married JoAnn Meyer on April 19, 1953, in Bismarck. They lived in the Moffit area before moving to Bismarck, where they lived the last 20 years. He worked for Clifford Enockson for 19 years. He also worked as a carpenter for Jack Walker and Dawn Price in Bismarck. He retired in 1983 due to his health.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; two daughters, Patty Kershaw and Sandy Martin, both of Bismarck; three sons, Raymond, Menoken, Les, Mandan, and Wade, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his mother, Martha Kershaw, Bismarck; one brother, Albert, Menoken; and two sisters, Jane Smith and Luella Anderson, both of Bismarck.

Nellie Noyce
DICKINSON -- Nellie Noyce, 94, Dickinson, died Dec. 24, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Truman Knoll
CARSON -- Truman Knoll, 78, Carson, died Dec. 22, 1996, in his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, Lark.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Darencamp, Cincinnati, and Susan Gorman, Fort Collins, Colo.; and two sisters, Shirley Roof, Albuquerque, N.M., and Katherine Peters, Carson. (Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig)

Cecilia Patenaude
STRASBURG -- Cecilia Patenaude, 95, Strasburg, died Dec. 21, 1996, in the Strasburg nursing home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Vee Fercarotta, Hendersonville, Tenn. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Mary Mattern
STRASBURG -- Mary Mattern, 83, Strasburg, died Dec. 23, 1996, in the Linton hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one sister, Julia Streifel, Riota, Calif. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Albert Mueller
STEELE -- Albert E. Mueller, 49, Steele, died Dec. 24, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, with the Rev. Sam Ismir officiating. Burial will be in Dawson Cemetery, with military rites by Dawson American Legion, John Green Post No. 231.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel. Visitation also will be held at the church one hour before services.

Albert was born March 18, 1947, in Bismarck, the son of Reinhold Mueller and Emma (Krein) Johnson. He grew up in Dawson and attended school in Dawson and Steele. In 1964 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was discharged in 1967 and began working in the oilfields in Wyoming. He later moved to California and worked as the foreman for a landscape construction. He married Cheryl Kennedy in California. In 1975 they moved back to Napoleon, where he worked for Napoleon Farm Supply. In 1976 they moved to Dawson, where he worked for Tappen Farm Supply. Albert started working for Northern Improvement in 1979, and was currently working there as a foreman. In 1982, he moved to Steele.

Albert was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Dawson American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Brian Rohrich, Steele, and Patricia and Harvey Rohrich, Dawson; one son, Robert, Fargo; five grandchildren; his mother, Emma Johnson, Bismarck; and and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Violet and Marvin Bodvig, Dawson, Delilah and Kevin Koch, Bismarck, and Sharee Mueller, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Clayton.

Ina Johnston
LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Ina M. Johnston, 83, Laramie, died Dec. 22, 1996, in a Laramie hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Church of the Nazarene, with burial in Green Hill Cemetery, both in Laramie.

She is survived by three sons, Ralph, Laramie, Theron, Oak Harbor, Wash., and Terry, Rock Springs, Wyo.; five daughters, LaVonne Nauta, Douglas, Wyo., Marilyn Barnes, Lander, Wyo., Kathren Haskins, Dacona, Colo., Sharon Westling, Bismarck, and Beverly Candelaria, Laramie; and one sister, Thelma Boylan, Linnsburg, Kan. (Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home, Laramie)

Anton Ridl
DUNN CENTER -- Anton Ridl, 63, Dunn Center, died Dec. 23, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Killdeer, with burial in Oakdale Cemetery, Killdeer.

He is survived by his wife, Sadako; two daughters, Shirley Werre, Killdeer, and Janet Pelton, Dunn Center; one sister, Grace Wetzel, Glen Ullin; three brothers, Clarence, Tustin, Calif., Raymond, Dickinson, and Eugene, Dickinson; and his parents, Anton A. and Eleanor Ridl, Dickinson. DICKINSON -- Paul Heinert, 69, Dickinson, died Dec. 24, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Jacob Groszhans
ASHLEY -- Jacob Groszhans, 91, Ashley, died Dec. 25, 1996, in the Ashley hospital. Arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Bob Frei
HAZEN -- Bob Frei, 46, Hazen, died Dec. 24, 1996, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Hazen, with the Rev. James Reardon officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the church where a vigil service will begin at 7 tonight. (Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen)

Regina Olson
HILLSBORO -- Regina Olson, 87, Hillsboro, died Dec. 17, 1996, in the Hillsboro hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Hillsboro.

She is survived by one son, Paul, Hillsboro; and two daughters, Sharon Andrusak, Riverside, Calif., and Barbara Carlson, Washougal, Wash. (Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro)

Thelma Hunsaker
Thelma O. Hunsaker, 72, died Dec. 14, 1996, in a Dayton, Ohio hospice. memorial services were held Dec. 22 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Dayton, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Witt, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., and Marily O'brien, Dayton; one son, Richard II, Dayton; one brother, Melvin Thorson, Bismarck; and one sister, Sylvia Watson, Bismarck.

M.F. Peterson
M.F. Peterson, 88, 1929 N. 11th St., died Dec. 26, 1996, in his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Further arrangements are pending.

Jacob Groszhans
ASHLEY -- Jacob Groszhans, 92, Ashley, died Dec. 25, 1996, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. Further arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Tillie Cain
Tillie F. Cain, 78, 1818 E. Capital Ave., died Dec. 25, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with burial in Bethany Cemetery, Robinson.

Tillie was born March 10, 1918, in Robinson, the daughter of Louis and Albina (Vavra) Subart. She was raised and educated at Robinson. She married Bob Cain in 1945. They lived in Portland, Ore., and in San Jose, Calif. for 25 years while she worked for IBM. She then retired and they moved to Bend, Ore. Tillie moved to Bismarck in 1991.

She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Vavra; two grandchildren, Kurtis and Jo Lee Mosher, all of Minneapolis; one sister, Louise Nerlien, Bismarck; one brother, Louis Subart, Robinson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister, Marsella Hanson; and one brother, Hubert Subart.
