Albert Fedorenko
MINOT -- Albert Carl Fedorenko, 72, Minot and Butte, died Nov. 29, 1996, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte, with burial in Butte Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Mr. Fedorenko was born March 15, 1924, southeast of Butte, the son of Carl and Anna (Korolsky) Fedorenko. He was raised and educated on the family farm five miles southeast of Butte, and graduated from Butte High School in 1942. In 1943 he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Saipan and Okinawa during World War II. When he was discharged, he moved back to Butte and married Arlene Jenson on June 4, 1950, and they farmed southeast of Butte until his semi-retirement in 1990. They moved into Minot in 1994 where he was presently living but continued to maintain a home in Butte.

Albert was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Butte and at one time served on the church's council. He was also a 50-year member of the Butte American Legion Post and also served for a time on the Butte School Board. His cheerful countenance and zest for life will be forever remembered and cherished by those who loved him. Albert was a wonderful husband and father and was proud of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; one son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Carmen, Max; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pamela and Michael Hoffman, Bismarck, Paulette and Blaine Lemer, Hazen, and Melissa Fedorenko, Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Christopher and Virginia Hoffman, Jordan, Jessica and Spencer Lemer, Jermey, Ashley and Taylor Fedorenko; two brothers, Virgil, Hudson, Wis., and Duane, Minot; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margie Wendschlag, Minot, and Carol and Leonard Steig, both of Butte; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant grandson, Tyler Lemer.

Kenneth Papineau
WATFORD CITY -- Kenneth Papineau, 52, Watford City, more recently of Bismarck, died Nov. 29, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Watford City, with the Rev. John Pfeifer officiating. Burial will be in Schafer Cemetery, Watford City.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. today at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Kenneth Stanley Papineau was born Nov. 8, 1944, in Williston, the son of Norman and Nora (McLaughlin) Papineau. He was raised and educated in Alexander. On Nov. 30, 1965, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Busch, in Williston. They lived in Williston until 1974, when they moved to Crosby, where they lived a short while. They moved to Watford City in 1975, where Ken lived until September 1996, when he moved to Bismarck.

Kenneth did various jobs, including farming, meat-cutting and was employed in the oil field in many capacities. He most recently was employed at the Cenex Convenience Store in Watford City.

Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Karla Papineau and her fiance, Kevin Mittleider, Lincoln, Kerry and Brad Maas, Minot, and Kristie Rink and her fiance, Marlyn Seidler, Underwood; four granddaughters, Jessica and Cassie Rink, Kelly Papineau and Kandas Mittleider; three grandsons, Roger Rink, and Jason and Eric Mittleider; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Clara, Williston, Russell and Ethyl, Tioga, Leo and Katie, Minot, and Dennis and Ella, Kittitas, Wash.; one sister and brother-in-law, Doris Desjarlais, Williston; one half-sister, Ruby Hermasisima, Bremerton, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Donnie Papineau, Tijeras, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.

William Campbell
William R. Campbell, 83, 1418 N. 22nd St., died Nov. 30, 1996, in the Mandan nursing home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Glenn Ramsey Jr. officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Bismarck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William was born Jan. 27, 1913, at Dillion, S.C., the son of Benjamin and Nelli (Wright) Campbell. He was raised and educated in rural schools near Amherst, Va. He married Nora Sletten, in Tacoma, Wash. He served in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II, and was involved in combat in Normandy, Operation Market Garden in Belgium, Anzio, Italy, and Bastone, Belgium. He then moved to Elbow Lake, Minn., where he worked as an auto mechanic. They then moved to Bismarck, where he worked as a salesman in the construction supply industry. He later moved to Grand Forks and managed the Sioux Ready Mix at the Air Force Base. He then returned to Bismarck and continued working as a salesman until his health forced him to retire in 1969.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and served as a deacon. He loved to hunt, and spent many hours enjoying his pastime with his favorite dog, Duke. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and El Zagal Shrine, a life member of Elks, and a member of American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Nora; one son, Thomas, Bismarck; one brother, Massie Doug, Frederick, Md.; and one sister, Sophie Brown, Amherst.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

LaDonna Luyben
LaDonna Luyben, 49, Sartell, Minn., formerly of Sterling, died Nov. 30, 1996, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near St. Cloud, Minn. Arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Steve Wax
REGENT -- Steve Wax, 25, Regent, died suddenly, Nov. 30, 1996, in Dickinson while snowmobiling. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Tuesday at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Lefor, with burial in St. Henry's Cemetery, Regent.

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Charlotte Wax, Regent; his brother, Scott, Regent; one sister, Stephanie Meduna, Dickinson; his grandparents, Ella Mayer, Mott, and Pete and Katherine Wax, Dickinson. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

Florence Jackson
REEDER -- Florence Jackson, 54, Reeder, died Nov. 30, 1996, in the Hettinger hospital after a long illness. Arrangements are pending at Walby Chapel, Hettinger.

Juliana Drader
HARVEY -- Juliana Drader, 87, Harvey, died Nov. 29, 1996, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Harvey, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Sebastian Fettig, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; one daughter, Judyann Maybell, Santa Barbara, Calif.; sisters, Ann Grossman, Harvey, and Marie Pfeifer, Mandan; five brothers, Mike Ludwig, Fargo, Ed Ludwig, Wisconsin, Nick Ludwig, Harvey, Adam Ludwig, Kennewick, Wash., and George Ludwig, Pelican Rapids, Minn. Zay Lindvig
ALEXANDER -- Zaye ``Sissy" Lindvig, 19, Alexander, died Nov. 30, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Alexander Public School Auditorium. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Adolph Eisenbraun, 78, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Dec. 1, 1996, in the nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Matthew Heinert
Matthew Heinert, 81, 515 N. Eighth St., died Dec. 1, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

James Hoop
Col. James S. Hoop, 63, 2601 Kavaney Drive, died Dec. 29, 1996, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Franko officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with the North Dakota National Guard providing military rites.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. today at Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

James S. Hoop was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Minneapolis, the son of William and Naomi (Cady) Bailey. He was raised by Dewey and Amy Cady in Grand Forks after his mother's death. In 1950 he joined the Army National Guard at the age of 17, and served in Korea from 1951-1953. While in Korea he earned the Combat Infantry Badge. He returned from Korea in 1953 and attended University of North Dakota for two years.

On Sept. 10, 1954 he married Myrna Gryte in Grand Forks. Jim worked for the Grand Forks Police Department from 1955-1957, and in 1958 began working for North Dakota Highway Patrol. He worked for the Highway Patrol until 1965, when he began working for the National Guard full time. He retired from the National Guard as a full colonel in 1991, after 38 years of service. His medals include the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with three bronze oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal -- 30 years, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, United National Service Medal, NDARNG Selected Reserve Force Ribbon, NDNG Emergency Service Ribbon, NDNG Service Ribbon and the NDNG Basic Training Ribbon.

After retirement, Jim took up the sport of golf and spent many hours enjoying his new hobby.

Jim is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Ginny and Randy Jacobson, Barnesville, Minn., Elizabeth and Ron Thompson, Fargo, and Nanci and John Kistler, Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Kaley, B.J., Jon, Ben and Kelsey Jacobson, Kortney, Ross and Luke Thompson, and Christine and Cameron Kistler; one brother, Robert, Jackson, Mich.; and his special friend, Donna Lilliboe, Bismarck. Jim was also aware that his 11th grandchild was due in May 1997.

EIleen Steffenson
Eileen Steffenson, 82, Mandan, died Dec. 30, 1996, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Eileen Steffenson was born Sept. 19, 1914, at Garrison, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Peterson) Tank. She was raised and educated in the area and attended Minot College. She married Albert Steffenson, June 18, 1937. They ranched south of Sanger on the Missouri River in Oliver County until they moved to Mandan in 1973. They were married for 55 years. She was afflicted with multiple sclerosis in 1966. Eileen taught schools in McLean and Oliver County for several years. She has been in a teaching capacity all her life, even as an invalid, with all the people's lives she has touched. She was active in the East End Homemakers Club and was a state officer for Homemakers, a member of Price Community Club, a 4-H leader, a member of the Heart River Lutheran Church Circle and the First Lutheran Church in Mandan. She has been a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Home since 1988.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Leland Olsen, Mandan; two grandsons and their wives, Jeff and Char Olson, Mandan, Craig and Doriene Olsen, Mound City, S.D.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Lynette and Allen Burch, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Beth and Brad Allen, Mandan; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Esther and John Council, Reno, Nev.; one brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Audrey Tank, Salinas, Calif.; and two stepsisters, Margie Crowell and Harriet McCoy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Harry Banker; her husband, Albert; and one brother, Howard.

Hilda White
NEW SALEM -- Hilda Kaelberer White, 88, New Salem, died Dec. 21, 1996, in the New Salem nursing home. Services will be at 1 p.m. MST Friday at Bethel Church, south of New Salem, with the Rev. Duane Wacker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Hilda was born Jan. 30, 1908, south of New Salem, the daughter of George Sr. and Henricka (Mayer) Bopp. She attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Church. On June 2, 1926, she married John E. Kaelberer at Bethel Church. They made their home on the Christian Kaelberer Sr. homestead, where they farmed until the fall of 1949, when they moved to New Salem. John died July 27, 1954.

In 1957 Hilda moved to Oregon, where she met and married Hudson D. White on March 1, 1958. They lived in Eugene until 1968, when they moved to Corvallis, Ore., where they lived until Hudson's death on Aug. 28, 1993. Hilda then moved to Valley View Heights in Bismarck and in March 1995 to Elm Crest Manor.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dorothy and Donald Becker, New Salem, Lorraine and Roger Fercho, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Betty-Jane Otte, Lincoln, Neb.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Carol, New Salem, and Robert and Anne, Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ann Grossman, Salem, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John E. Kaelberer and Hudson D. White; one son, Donald; one son-in-law, Rev. Paul Otte; four brothers; and one sister.

Joseph O'Brien
Dr. Joseph E. O'Brien, 70, Bismarck, died Dec. 28, 1996, in a Fargo hospital. Memorial services will be at noon Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. A flag presentation will be made by VFW Gilbert N. Nelson Post No. 1326.

A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a vigil at Boelter Funeral Home.

Joseph was born Dec. 17, 1926, at Hibbing, Minn., the son of George F. and Gretchen (Kliner) O'Brien. He was raised and educated at Brainerd, Minn.

In 1943 Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and transferred to the U.S. Marine Corps. He served a tour of duty in the Pacific Theater and received two Purple Hearts. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued his education, receiving a doctorate from Chicago College of Chiropody in 1951. He married Frances Halada, June 14, 1951, in Duluth, Minn. The O'Briens moved to Bismarck in 1955, where Dr. O'Brien established his practice. He retired in 1990. His wife, Frances, died Feb. 7, 1990.

Dr. O'Brien was an active member of several fraternal organizations, including the State Board of Podiatry, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus (Grand Knight) and Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and hunting, and following high school sports.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Lori, New Salem; one daughter, Mary Fleckenstein, Lafayette, Colo.; one sister, Gretchen Naegeli, Minnesota; three brothers, George and John, both of Minnesota, and Bill, Florida; four grandchildren, Trent and Logan O'Brien, and Miranda and Richard Fleckenstein.

In addition to his wife, Frances, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James.

Lowell Gilbert
KILLDEER -- Lowell Gilbert, 91, Killdeer, died Dec. 28, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with burial in Killdeer Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Della; and two daughters, Geraldine Dinkins, Bison, S.D., and Mary Nester, Minot. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Dorothea Johnson
DICKINSON -- Dorothea Johnson, 87, Dickinson, died Dec. 28, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST today at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with burial in Dickinson Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Williams, Baton Rouge, La., and Doreen Kadrmas, Bismarck; and one son, Kenneth, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and four brothers, Fred Albrecht, Rockford, Ill., Erich Albrecht, Fargo, Waldemar Albrecht, Fargo, and Harold Albrecht, Dubuque, Iowa. Viola Heth
BEULAH -- Viola G. Heth, 76, Beulah, died Dec. 30, 1996, in her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Darlene Schaper, Beulah; and five sisters, Alta Reinhardt, Beulah, Esther Kichenmann, Rapid City, S.D., Adeline Ziemann, Hazen, Delores Renz, Missoula, Mont., and Betty Hausauer, Zap. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Leslie Milligan
FARGO -- Leslie Robert Milligan, 67, Fargo, died Dec. 29, 1996, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hanson-Runsvold Chapel, Fargo, with burial in Springvale Cemetery, Fargo.

He is survived by two sons, Gary, Fargo, and Marlin, Cheyenne, Wyo.; three daughters, Natalie Milligan, Laramie, Wyo., Tamie Oesch and Sandra Milligan, both of Cheyenne; one brother, Lloyd, Bismarck; and one sister, Esther Fors, St. Paul, Minn.

Art Pfenning
BEULAH -- Art Pfenning, 65, Beulah, died Dec. 29, 1996, after a long illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at Beulah Church of God, with burial in Beulah Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy; one son, Todd, Beulah; four brothers, Albert, Minot, Edward and Reuben, both of Bismarck, and Otto, Beulah; and three sisters, Bert Wenz, Glendive, Mont., Erna Will, Beulah, and Olga Christman, Springfield, Mo. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Alvin Fischer
LINTON -- Alvin A. Fischer, 57, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Linton, died Dec. 24, 1996, at his home of heart failure. Arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Marcella Woehl
ASHLEY -- Marcella Mae Woehl, 74, Ashley, died Dec. 29, 1996, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Ashley, with burial in Ashley Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Theodore; two sons, Garry, Ashley, and Timothy, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Germaine Krein, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Peggy Welder, Napoleon; and one brother, Eugen Bertsch, Ashley. (Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley)

Don Bintliff
