Maximus Kongslie
Maximus Timothy Kongslie, infant son of Mitchell and Jessica (Conlon) Kongslie, died Thursday, October 19 at Medcenter One, Bismarck.
A funeral mass for Maximus was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the St. Ann Catholic Church, Hebron, with the Reverend Sebastian Schmidt OSB, as Celebrant.
Burial was in the St. Ann Cemetery in Hebron. Vigil services were held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the St. Ann Church.
Maximus was born June 17, 2006 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, the son of Mitchell and Jessica Kongslie.
Little Maximus loved the smooches and the attention that his older sister Parker poured on him and the smiles and near giggles that he shared with Mom and Dad.
He leaves his broken-hearted family that includes his parents, his sister Parker and his maternal grandparents Joan and Thomas Conlon, Hebron and paternal grandmother Cindy Kongslie, New Salem.
Maximus also leaves several great grandparents - Ruth Conlon, Hebron, Lillian Sayler, Chateau, MT, Mary Kongslie, Bismarck and Louise Max, Mandan.
His paternal grandfather, Timothy Kongslie, preceded him in death.

Irene Schantz
Irene Schantz, 74, Glen Ullin, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, September 29, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt OSB as Celebrant.
Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Glen Ullin.
Irene was born September 8, 1932 on the family farm near St. Anthony, ND. She was raised on the farm and attended St. Anthony School.
She worked as a waitress in a restaurant in Mandan.
She married Eugene Schantz, September 28, 1953 at Mandan. Following their marriage they farmed near Lemmon, SD until 1960 when they bought a farm near Glen Ullin.
Irene was a devoted mother to her ten children and a second mother to the children she took in and provided day care for as well as the foreign exchange students that lived with them.
When they were all grown she worked outside the home at the Crossroads Express.
Irene had a passion for music. She played piano in an orchestra when she was a young girl and continued playing throughout her life.
She was a member of the Christian Mothers, a past member of the Sacred Heart Choir and enjoyed playing bingo, bridge, Bonco and Scrabble and getting together with friends for coffee.
In her spare time Irene kept busy and enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and preparing great meals. Irene was a woman of good humor, and her infectious laugh caused others to laugh with her.
Those remaining to share the legacy of her love include her husband, Eugene, Glen Ullin; four daughters - Debra (Gerald) Sebastian, Hebron; Brenda Maloney, Coloma, MI; Pam (Russ) Walter, Keensburg, CO and Donna Schantz, Medina, NY and her six sons - Roger (Sheila), Sheldon, Allen (Colleen), Douglas (Kolina), all of Glen Ullin; Jerry (Brenda), Hebron, ND and Bill, Parker, CO.
She also leaves 15 grandchildren - Gwen and Garrett Sebastian, Kristy and Tyrell Maloney, Nicole Schantz, Brandon and Barry Schantz, Kari Billman, Sara and Riley Schantz, Dakota, Dusty, and Dallas Schantz and Casey and Cody Schantz and a special great grandchild Caden Schneider.
Irene is survived by her brothers - Clarence and Kenny Bender, both of Billings, MT and Gerald Bender, New Ulm, MN and her sisters - Stella Eisenbarth, Elgin; Evelyn Phellps, Bismarck; Dolores Scott, Forsyth, MT; Phyllis Birkes, Tigard, OR and Annette Braun, Mandan and countless friends.
Her parents and four brothers - Leonard, Leo, Urban, and Vernon preceded her in death.

Evelyn Fischer
Evelyn Fischer, 85, Glen Ullin, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 7 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt OSB, as celebrant.
Evelyn was born September 20, 1921 at Stayton, OR, a daughter of Marcelinus and Elizabeth (Bollinger) Ruscheinsky.
In 1929 her family moved to a farm near Brisbane, ND where Evelyn grew up and was educated. She worked on the farm until her marriage to Joseph Fischer January 2, 1946.
Following their marriage they lived on a number of places while Joe worked on construction.
In the mid-1950’s they moved to Glen Ullin where Joe was employed by Frank Doll.
Evelyn took care of the household. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading and playing cards but her real fun was going fishing.
Evelyn and Joe loved to fish in tournaments. Evelyn earned a Whopper Walleye Patch when she caught a 13 lb. 11 oz. walleye.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers.
She is survived by a daughter Carol (Mike) Hoerauf, Glen Ullin, ND and sons John (Bonnie), Bismarck, ND and Jim (Connie), Wenatchee, WA.
She leaves six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, a brother Frank (Harriet) Ruscheinsky, Portland, OR and four sisters-in-law - Florence and Monica Ruscheinsky, Portland, OR, Ann Finck, Mott, Eva Petrasek, Bismarck and Emily Seibert, Billing, MT.
Her parents, husband Joe on July 14, 1991, a grandson Brad, five brothers Pete, Joe, Ralph, Emanuel, Johnny and two sisters, Kay and Amelia, preceded her in death.

Ernst P. Focht
Ernest P. Focht, 90, Taylor, died Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Richardton Health Center, Richardton.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Gladstone with Fr. Boniface Muggli, celebrating.
Interment was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Gladstone.
Ernest Focht was born on October 20, 1916 at home to George and Anna (Arnold) Focht. He attended Gladstone school and went on to pursue other activities.
He worked at different jobs for the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration.
He also spent some time in the west coast picking apples for four cents a box.
He returned to North Dakota and married Eva Martin June 10, 1940. They rented a farm one and a half miles south of Gladstone. Two years later they moved to a farm northwest of Taylor where they lived for 63 years.
Ernest enjoyed the time spent with friends and relatives, making sausage, fishing, playing cards, visiting and dancing. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Club in Gladstone.
He is survived by: his wife, Eva, Richardton Health Center, Richardton; two sons, Eugene (Margie), Hebron and Ron (Doris), Billings, MT.
He leaves seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; four brothers - Jacob, Dickinson, Frank, Frederickstown, OH, Walter and Victor, Beaverton, OR and three sisters - Helen Merritt, St. Louis, MO, Hilda Glasgow, Portland, OR and Martha Rahm, Tuscon, AZ.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, three sisters, Theresa Focht, Mary Gotterbarm and Kathryn Kary, and one brother, Anton Focht.

Friedrich Remfert
Friedrich H. "Freddie" Remfert, 77, a long time Wenatchee, WA area businessman, died Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the Central Washington Hospital.
He was born October 22, 1928 at Hebron, ND to the late Arthur and Pauline (Treiber) Remfert.
The family moved to the Wenatchee area in 1936.
From the age of 13 – 17 he worked for the Lodge Bike Shop and had a route for the Daily World.
He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1946 and later attended auto trade school in Yakima.
He served in the Korean Conflict from 1950 – 1952, receiving the Purple Heart.
In April 1953 he married Mary Jean Cordell and they have celebrated 53 years together.
They had one son, Matt.
From 1954 – 1957 he earned top salesman for C. Anderson Buick and from 1957 – 1971, worked for the VW dealership.
He retired from Sav-Mart in 1986 after working 14 years.
After retirement he had the Remfert Apartments. He loved to travel as well as fish.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the family home; a son, Matt Remfert; a sister, Jackie Carmichael and a brother, Al Remfert.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, September 21 at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the Jones & Jones Funeral Home.
Concluding services and the interment followed at Wenatchee City Cemetery.
Jones & Jones Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
