Rev. Harry Theiss
The Reverend Harry R. Theiss, 79, Glen Ullin, died peacefully at his home in Glen Ullin Sunday, December 3, 2006.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. CT Wednesday, December 6 at Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Loren Strum officiating.
Visitation will begin Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. CT. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Harry R. Theiss was born August 9, 1927 in Wittenberg, MS, the son of Paul and Clara (Hilpert) Theiss. He lived on a farm and attended a parochial school not far from the farm.
He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran High School in Concordia, MO and following graduation he attended and graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.
The Reverend Theiss received a call to Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Ullin, ND in 1953. While in Glen Ullin he met Caroline Opp and they were married February 6, 1955 at Zion Lutheran. In 1957 the Reverend Theiss’s ministry led him to Halliday, ND where he continued his ministry at St. Paul Church and St. James in Golden Valley until 1993 when he retired and moved to Glen Ullin.
In retirement Rev. Theiss continued to share the love of Jesus wherever and whenever the opportunity arose.
He is survived by his wife Caroline, Glen Ullin, his brothers Paul (Helen), Uniontown, MO and Rev. Louis (Marie Anna), Perryville, MO and his brother-in-law Walter, Glen Ullin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Gilbert.

Kenneth Schatz
Funeral services for Kenneth M. Schatz, 74, Elgin, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 29 at the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Elgin. Pastor Hazel Behrens will officiate with inurnment in Bethesda United Methodist Cemetery.
A family service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin.
Special music will be provided by Verna Shawchuck, organist and Vernon Glaesemann, soloist.
Serving as casketbearers are Kurt Waldbillig, Dan Ackerman, Mark Bogart, Virgil Swift, Dennis Sabin and Ernest Fitterer. All friends and relatives are considered honorary bearers.
Kenneth Melvin Schatz was born December 2, 1931 at the farm home in Elgin, North Dakota to Emilia (Karch) and Henry Schatz Sr. He attended a country school near his home and later farmed and ranched with his parents.
He was united in marriage to LaDonna Skalsky March 25, 1956 at Glen Ullin, ND. Kenneth, better known as Kenny to friends and family, loved to chat and visit with people about farming, their families and backgrounds and could strike up a conversation with anyone, about anything.
Kenny loved to farm, read, play cards as well as tease and goof off with his family - especially his granddaughters. He was also known for his great sense of humor, kindness and willingness to help others.
Kenny was invited to and participated on numerous boards over his lifetime, including various positions with the United Methodist Church boards, rural fire district, FHA Board, Elgin School Board and most recently, was serving as a current member of the Jacobson Memorial Hospital Board.
Kenneth passed away Saturday, November 25, 2006 at Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin.
He is survived by his loving wife, LaDonna of Elgin, four children - Kirby (JoAnn) Schatz, Elgin, Kerry Schatz, Hazen and fiancée, Mary Long, Dickinson, Kay (Monty) Mayer, Steele and Kelly (Mark) Jennings, Washburn.
He also leaves his seven beautiful granddaughters - Dr. Bethanie Schatz, Hastings, MN, Lindsay Schatz and Abby Schatz, Bismarck, Jordan and Jacey Mayer, Steele and Madelyn and Molly Jennings, Washburn.
He is survived by his sister Eunice (Norman) Schulz, New Leipzig, his brothers Rev. Jim (Sally) Schatz, Tripp, SD and Henry Jr. (Bev) Schatz, Bismarck, three sisters-in-law, Lydia (Ervin) Schatz, Elgin, Winnefred Schatz (Clifford), New Leipzig and Arlene (Emil) Schatz, Glen Ullin and many nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Emilia Schatz and three brothers - Ervin, Clifford and Emil Schatz.
Visitation was Tuesday 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin and on Wednesday, one hour prior to services at the United Methodist Church in Elgin.

Corenne Krieg
Corenne Krieg, 77, Dickinson, ND died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at SCCI in Mandan, ND.
Corenne’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Dickinson with Rev. Kathleen Chesnut officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery, Hebron.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Corenne Stading, daughter of Freda (Frey) and John F. Stading, was born June 4, 1929 on the family farm near Antelope. She attended Antelope school and graduated from Hebron High School and from Valley City Teacher’s College with a standard teaching diploma.
She taught in Gladstone, Cannonball and Mandan prior to her marriage.
Corenne married Theodore J. Krieg April 6, 1952 in Hebron. They lived in Wahpeton where Corenne taught school at Central Elementary School.
In 1956 they moved to Hebron where she taught kindergarten in her home for two years and then taught school in Hebron. Theodore died in 1968 and Corenne reared their three sons.
Corenne and her boys moved to Dickinson where she attended Dickinson State University and received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1969. She was then employed by the Dickinson Public School District. She also attended Jamestown College, North Dakota State University and Minot State.
In 1971, she began studies for her master’s degree at the University of North Dakota, graduating in 1972.
After teaching first grade for nine years in Dickinson and completing the Elementary Administration Credential, Corenne was named the principal of Gladstone Elementary School. She was the only women administrator in the district at the time.
In 1986 she was named the principal of the Roosevelt Elementary School.
Corenne retired from the Dickinson district in 1990 and moved to Mabank, TX where she taught second grade. In 1995 she returned to her home in Dickinson.
Corenne was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Slope Area Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Foundation Board for the Dickinson Public Library. She was a volunteer for the Soup Kitchen, Dickinson Nutrition Service, food pantry and the Friend’s of the Library book store.
Corenne had a great love for children. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, especially taking each one of her granddaughters to Washington, DC when they turned 12, reading, working on her computer, quilting, scrap booking and most recently fun with her friends in the "Red Hat Society".
Corenne is survived by her sons - Ted Krieg, Dillingham, AK, Jon (Joy) Krieg, Delano, MN and Jerry (Lori) Krieg, Dickinson and her beloved granddaughters - Bethanie, Kelli, Whitney, Nicole, Cody and great-grandson Kaeden Krieg.
She also leaves her sisters, Ruth (Kermit) Butler, Florence, OR and Gertrude (Ray) Koch, Billings, MT and her brother Vernon (Arlene) Stading, Minot, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore Krieg, her parents and her brothers Victor and Gerald.
Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Orin Christianson
Orin A. Christianson, 80, Taylor, ND, died in the early hours Thursday, November 23, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson following a courageous battle with cancer.
Orin’s funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2006 at the Taylor Elementary School Gymnasium, Taylor with Rev. Gary Wood officiating.
Interment followed at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, military honors provided by the Taylor VFW.
Orin Allen Christianson was born in Hettinger, ND February 22, 1926, a son of Angus and Ella (Donner) Christianson. In 1951, Orin married Carolina Hudecek and had four children - Kenneth, Kyle, Orleen and Marlene.
He lost Carolina to a sudden death in 1971 and carried on to raise the family.
Orin married Helen Franchuk Heiman in 1974 and extended his family with Helen’s children, Vickie, Paulette and Wayne.
Orin was a veteran of the US Army and served in Korea with the 780th Field Artillery Battalion in Yanggu, Korea from April 3, 1951 to January 3, 1953 when he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on August 13, 1956.
Following the service he began a career with the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, which he continued until his retirement in 1989 after 40 years of service.
His career was highlighted with the ND Outstanding Carrier of the Year in 1992 and the One Million Mile Accident Free Award. Orin was noted by his patrons as so prompt they could set their watches by him.
Orin was an active member of the Taylor community for over 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Lions, Taylor Lutheran Church, the Senior Citizens of Taylor, VFW, American Legion Post 180, Eagles, Elks, St. Anthony, Sons of Norway and the Taylor Fire Department.
He was a member of the Taylor School Board for nine years and the city council for 16 years.
His knowledge and wisdom helped ensure the success of annual events as the Horse Fest and the Good Old Taylor Days and he will be remembered for his contributions to the town’s beautification with planters, benches and picnic tables.
Orin enjoyed bowling, cooking, darts, fishing, gardening, playing cards, woodworking and spending time with his family, grandchildren and his dog, Peppi.
Orin is survived by his wife, Helen and their children - Kenneth, Kyle (Joyce), Orleen (David) Orem, Marlene (Allan) Frederick, Vickie Klein, Paulette (Bernie) Marsh, and Wayne (Aleen Iverson) Heiman.
He also leaves his grandchildren - Jeremiah, Justin and Kyla Christianson, Zachary and Lindsey Frederick, Jason, Michael, Robert, Jr., Devon and Tristan Klein, Marissa, Maranda, Marriah, Matthew, Marleah, Maxsonn, Marinna and Marcus Marsh and his great-grandchildren - Jacob, Olivia, Kaleb, Eliza, Benjamin and Carolina.
Other survivors include sisters - Ardyce (Jerome) Kostelecky, Yakima, WA and Edelle (James) Shannon, Billings, MT and a sister-in-law Geraldine Christianson, Dickinson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carrie; his parents, two brothers Floyd and Glen; sister, Delores, niece Shirley Shannon, brother-in-law Earl Jalbert and son-in-law Robert Klein, Jr.
Arrangements were with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Marlene Bechhold
Marlene Bechhold, 68, Glen Ullin, died Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin after a brave battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. CT Tuesday, November 27, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin.
Marlene was born September 13, 1938 in Grant County, a daughter of John and Veronica (Barth) Emter. She lived in the Glen Ullin area most of her life.
She married Gerald Bechhold April 1, 1959. She helped farm, did daycare and worked in the nursing home.
The past year she lived in Mandan. Marlene had a great love of music and enjoyed playing the accordion.
Some of her hobbies were playing cards, bingo, bonco and enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker.
Marlene is survived by her son Robert Bechhold, Bismarck and daughter, Chris Bechhold, Mandan.
She leaves a brother Ervin (Marge) Emter, Glen Ullin, ND and sister Adeline (Joe) Thomas, Bismarck, ND and a mother-in-law, Frances Bechhold, sister-in-law, Jean Bechhold and brother-in-law, Jim Bechhold, all of Glen Ullin.
She also leaves a special family - Dale, Hollie, Kevin, Kayla and Mitchell Emter, all of Glen Ullin and many more relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and brother Teddy.
