Helen J. Feist, 69, Crystal, Minn., formerly of Bismarck, died March 11, 1997, in a Robbinsdale, Minn. hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Gearty Delmore Funeral Chapel, Robbinsdale, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

She is survived by four sons, Bill, Maple Grove, Minn., Dale, Crystal, and Tom and Steve, California; one sister, Connie Nix, Minneapolis; and two brothers, Lyle Otteson, Missouri, and Gordon Otteson, Bismarck.

Leonard Narum
MINOT -- Leonard O. Narum, 77, Minot, died March 11, 1997, in a Minot hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Katie Wagner
STRASBURG -- Katie R. Wagner, 91, Strasburg, died Jan. 9, 1997, in the Linton hospital. Services will be at 10-30 a.m. Monday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Al and Mike, both of Bismarck; and three daughters, Rose Mary Schmaltz, Reno, Nev., Angeline Schmaltz, Anaheim, Calif., and Shirley Boschee, Scottsdale, Ariz. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Jim Ferebee
KILLDEER -- Jim Ferebee, 54, Killdeer, died Jan. 8, 1997, in his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Monday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with burial at 11 a.m. CST Tuesday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

He is survived by his mother, Ina Ferebee, Dickinson; two brothers, Cliff, Halliday, and George, Hill City, S.D.; five sisters, Anita Solberg, Albuquerque, N.M., Ruby Mayer and Dorothy Bogges, both of Bakersfield, Calif., Audrey Gear, Sidney, Mont., and Mary Lobb, Arlington, Texas. Margaret Wald
Margaret Wald, 99, Bismarck, died Jan. 10, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Carl Willford
Carl Lawrence Willford, 69, Nora Springs, Iowa, died Dec. 24, 1996. Services were held Dec. 27 at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth, Iowa.

He is survived by three sisters, Doris Tack, Plymouth, Reva Pedelty, Nora Springs, and Phyllis Peterson, Mandan.

Arthur Eisenbeis
ZAP -- Arthur J. Eisenbeis, 79, Beulah, died Jan. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Zap, with burial in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beulah.

He is survived by one sister, Hilda Bauer, Zap, and three brothers, Erwin, Raymond and Reuben, all of Beulah. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

GARRISON -- Leo Ferderer, 68, Garrison, died Jan. 8, 1997, in his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, with burial in the church cemetery.

Ruth Stewart
BOWDON -- Ruth Stewart, 94, Bowdon, died Jan. 8, 1997, in the Carrington nursing home. Services and burial will be in the spring.

Pauline Benishak
NEW SALEM -- Pauline Benishak, 101, New Salem, died Jan. 8, 1997, in the New Salem nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem, with the Rev. James Baneck officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Pauline Kaelberer was born April 29, 1895, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Gustav and Pauline (Rock) Kaelberer. She married Charles Benishak, Sept. 20, 1920. They farmed south of New Salem until moving to New Salem in 1947. After Charles died June 13, 1981, she remained in her home until 1992 when she became a resident of Elm Crest Manor.

She is survived by one son, Theodore, New Salem; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jill and Jim Guest, Deadwood, S.D.; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Charles and Paula Gordon, The Woodlands, Texas, and Robert and Michelle Gordon, Rapid City, S.D.; two great-grandchildren, Kacey and Courtney Guest, Deadwood; one brother and four sisters-in-law, John and Esther Kaelberer, and Edna Kaelberer, New Salem, Emily Delsman and Olive Benishek, Manitowac, Wis.; and many nephews and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter and son-in-law, four brothers and one sister.

Anna Hopfauf
Anna M. Hopfauf, 78, Mandan, died Jan. 9, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Spirit of Life Church, Mandan, with burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Flasher.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday, followed by a parish vigil at 4:30 p.m.

Anna was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Flasher, the daughter of Jacob and Philomena (Paul) Bohl. She was raised and educated in the Fallon area. On Nov. 14, 1939, she married Frank Hopfauf in Fallon. They farmed there until the fall of 1968 when they moved to Flasher. She was employed as a cook for the Flasher school system and Flasher 55 Club. In 1976 she moved to Mandan and cooked at the State Industrial School for 12 years, retiring in 1989.

She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary in Mandan and was a life member of Christian Mothers in Flasher.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Floyd and Marcy, and Hoopy and Donna, all of Mandan, and Bernie and Trish, Orlando, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Richard Muth, and Elaine and Dennis Berger, all of Mandan; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother and five sisters-in-law, Joe and Hildegard, Vallejo, Calif., and Julia, Frances, Rose and Betty Bohl; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Eileen Balkowitch, and Barbara and Nick Doll, all of Mandan, Monica Tayler, Rapid City, S.D., and Rose and Tony Miller, Yakima, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank, who died May 21, 1975; one son, Duane; five brothers, Pete, Mike, George, Jack and Xavier; and two sisters, Maggie and Mary.

Leonard Friesz
Leonard Friesz, 54, 120 Third Ave. E, Flasher, died Jan. 8, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Monday at St. Lawrence Church, Flasher, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. CST today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a St. Anthony Verein rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, and after 4 p.m. MST at the church. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. MST Sunday at the church.

Leonard was born Nov. 18, 1942, in Flasher, the son of Liborious J. and Rose (Kuhn) Friesz. Leonard was raised and educated in Fallon and Flasher. He married Geraldine Fleck, June 22, 1968, in Flasher. Leonard was a carpenter for many years, but at the time of his death he was employed as a custodian for Flasher Public School. Leonard and Geraldine also managed the Knights of Columbus Club for the past 20 years. He also held many offices through the years at the club. Leonard was very dedicated to his work and loved his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Connie, Page; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tina and Tony George, Haltom City, Texas, and Tammie Friesz and her fiance, Rick Alexander, Garrison; four grandchildren, Sarah, Katie and Benjamin Friesz, and Tiana George; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Eileen, Bismarck, and Peter and Josie, Mandan; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and Leo Hopfauf, Glendive, Mont., Viola Friesz, Bismarck, and Shirley and Richard Schwartzbauer, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael; and one daughter, Tanya.

A.W. 'Bill' Brunelle
A.W. "Bill" Brunelle, 71, 411 Fifth Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Jan. 10, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at 1-30 p.m. Tuesday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and will continue from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. A Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Monday, and a parish vigil will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, both at the funeral home.

Bill was born April 23, 1925, in Mandan, the son of Archie and Frances (Hoffman) Brunelle. He attended St. Joseph's School in Mandan and graduated from Mandan High School. He served in the Seabees from 1942-46. On June 7, 1947, he married Margaret Morton. Margaret died in 1994. Bill was employed as a carman with the railroad for 38 years, until retiring in 1985.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Debra, Mandan, and Mark and Debra, Twin Falls, Idaho; four daughters and one son-in-law, Carol Brunelle, Parshall, Peg and Paula Brunelle, and Marlene and Dave Froemming, all of Mandan; nine grandchildren, Rick, Lee, Christie, Jeremy, Adam, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Ryan and Jesse; two step-grandchildren, Kristi and Chad; one brother, Dick, Seattle; and three sisters, Margie Malmend, Glendive, Mont., Dorothy Mulske and Mickey Tokach, both of Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two sisters.

Alphonse 'Al' Ressler
Alphonse "Al" J. Ressler, 83, 605 Fourth St. N.W., Mandan, died Jan. 10, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Church of St. Joseph, Mandan, with the Rev. Al Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with military rites by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Monday. A parish vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Alphonse was born Feb. 6, 1913, at St. Anthony, the son of Frank and Clementine (Leingang) Ressler. He was raised in Mandan and attended St. Joseph's School in Mandan. On June 10, 1936, he married Clarice Bumann in Mandan. Alphonse was employed with Kinzel Tire in Mandan. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and later on returned to work for Kinzel Tire Co. Al was manager of the tire department for Reidinger Motors, and later worked for L&H Manufacturing as an engraver until his retirement in 1979.

Al was a life member of American Legion, Mandan Elks and Disabled American Vets.

He is survived by his wife, Clarice; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry and Carla, Mandan, and Allen, Williston; one former daughter-in-law, Pat, Williston; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Pete, Mott, Leo, Puyallup, Wash., and Jim, Bismarck; and four sisters, Marie German, St. Paul, Minn., Valaria Iverson, Bernetta "Nettie" Monroe and Sister Denise Ressler, all of Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Alphonse; two brothers, Mike and Clement; and two sisters, Ermina Peterson and Marqurita Swindler.

Leonard Friesz
Leonard Friesz, 54, 120 Third Ave. E, Flasher, died Jan. 8, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital after a long struggle with leukemia. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Monday at St. Lawrence Church, Flasher, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST today at Weigel Funeral Home, and after 4 p.m. MST at the church. A parish vigil will begin at 7 MST tonight, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Fay Charlesworth
Fay W. Charlesworth, 78, 5760 Lariat Loop, died Jan. 11, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Dakota Memorial Chapel, with Mr. Ken Wangler officiating.

Fay was born June 11, 1918, in Hewitt, Minn., the son of Daniel and Nettie (Eaton) Charlesworth. He grew up in Mandan. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp until entering the U.S. Army in 1940. During World War II, he served in Europe and was a participant in the Battle of the Bulge, fighting under Gen. George Patton. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1945. Fay married Eva Becker, June 13, 1942. From 1946-78 Fay was employed as a firefighter in Bismarck, eventually becoming battalion chief.

Fay enjoyed working with his hands, carpentry and helping his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Eva; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Tilman Haadem, Tappen, and Linda and Jim Faber, Bismarck; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Forrest and Bonnie, Brighton, Colo., Clinton and Kitty, Glendive, Mont., and Warren, Bismarck; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one niece, Dorothy Berch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one sister; and one infant son, Daniel.

Margaret Wald
Margaret Wald, 99, Bismarck, died Jan. 10, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church, where a vigil and rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Monday. Visitation will resume at the church one hour before services.

Margaret was born Dec. 13, 1987, in Russia, the daughter of Markus and Elizabeth (Scherr) Schmidt. She was the oldest of 10 children. The family came to the United States from Russia when Margaret was nine months old. She grew up in Logan County and attended school for about a year and a half. Margaret was united in marriage to Conrad Wald, July 2, 1917. They farmed 21 miles southwest of Napoleon for 38 years. In the fall of 1958 they moved to Bismarck. Their residence was 411 12th St. for 28 years.

Margaret and Conrad attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and she was a member of the Altar Society. In 1986, they moved into Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Conrad died shortly after. Margaret lived there for 10 years. She loved to sew and kept herself busy making items for her family, friends and the Care Center. She continued to sew until a week before her death.

She is survived by four sons and five daughters-in-law, Conrad and Alvina, McKenzie, Sylvester and Millicent, and Adam and Lillian, and Elizabeth Wald, all of Bismarck, and Francis and Irene, Reynolds; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Phyllis Wald, Adrian, Mich., Julia and Alex Feist, Christina and Henry Dosch, Dorothy Wald, and John Ell, all of Bismarck, Helen and James Schmidt, Hazelton, and Margaret and Arlan Vonesh, Buxton; 78 grandchildren; 183 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Joseph and Markus; infant triplet sons; one daughter, Elizabeth Ell; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Helen Rambur
Helen Rambur, 93, Mandan, died Jan. 10, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a St. Maria Verein rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Helen was born in Romania on Feb. 28, 1903, the daughter of Domonic and Teckla (Keller) Kuntz. At the age of three, she came to the United States through Ellis Island with her parents, who then settled in the Odense area near Solen, where she was raised and educated. She married Frank Rambur, Aug. 30, 1920, in Solen and they lived in Mandan. Frank died Dec. 16, 1973. Helen was a cook at St. Joseph School from 1958-68. She loved to crochet and play cards. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Marie Verein, and played with the Golden Age Club Kitchen Band. In 1991, she entered Medcenter One Care Center.

She is survived by one daughter, Caroline Barrios, Mandan; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Evangeline, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Eleanor Wetch; three sisters; and two brothers.

Pauline Benishek
NEW SALEM -- Pauline Benishek, 101, New Salem, died Jan. 8, 1997, in the New Salem nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem, with the Rev. James Baneck officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
