Martha Tschider
Martha Tschider, 95, Solen, died Jan. 13, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. James Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Martha was born Dec. 12, 1901, to Martin and Gurina (Finneseth) Spillum, at Buxton. She was raised and educated at Buxton, and attended Mayville and Valley City state colleges. She graduated with a degree in elementary education. Miss Spillum married Joseph Tschider, Oct. 16, 1929, at Hillsboro. They farmed and ranched in the Solen area until Joe's death, Nov. 20, 1974. Martha taught schools in Griggs, Barnes, Morton and Sioux counties for 36 years, 24 of those in the Solen public schools. On her retirement she was honored with an open house held in the Solen gymnasium.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Donovan and Marie, West Covina, Calif., Kenneth and Genevieve, Ellensburg, Wash., Vernon and Delorse, Minot, and Percy and Esther, Solen; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Irene Spillum, Buxton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; one son, Eugene; two brothers, Magnus and Gilbert; and three sisters, Minnie Jacobson, Ida Fodness and Lyla Boe.

Henry Vandenburg
FLASHER -- Henry Vandenburg, 85, Flasher, died Jan. 15, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

John Wobbema
John Wobbema Sr., 61, Carrington, died Jan. 12, 1997, in the Carrington hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, with the Revs. Karla and Peer Coen-Tuff officiating. Clara Edwardson will serve as organist, with special music by Joan Copenhaver and Traci Wobbema. Burial will be in Carrington Cemetery, with military rites by John Raymond O'Hara American Legion Post No. 25 and the McCreary-Bonderud VFW Post No. 3524.

Casketbearers will be Richard Wobbema, Curtis Nelson, Timothy Wobbema, Maynard Aultman, Mark Laber, Leonard Laber and Bill Wobbema.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, where a prayer service will begin at 8:15 tonight.

John Walter Wobbema was born July 18, 1935, at Carrington, the son of Pete and Sophie (Zuling) Wobbema. He was raised and attended school in the Carrington area. John served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. On Feb. 2, 1957, John was united in marriage to Margaret "Peg" Joyce at East Boston, Mass. He worked in several Midwest states before returning to Carrington in 1963. John had worked in the Carrington area at several jobs as a mechanic.

He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting, fishing and attending rodeos.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peg"; four sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Tracie, and John and Danielle, both of Fargo, Gary and Traci, Bismarck, and Kenneth and Carrie, Fort Campbell, Ky.; three daughters, Stephanie Mitcham, Walla Walla, Wash., Ann Lange, Pingree, and Rozanne Wobbema, Carrington; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Pete, Barlow, and Harold, Velva; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margaret Hoppe and Nellie Duursma, both of Carrington, Pearl Edinger, Jamestown, Mildred Lies, New Rockford, Jennie and Herman Lepley, Shevlin, Minn., and Susie and Norm Hanson, Brookings, S.D.

John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Louise Olander
HAZEN -- Louise Olander, 81, Hazen, died Jan. 15, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Stanton. Arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Edna Sorteberg
HARVEY -- Edna Sorteberg, 85, Harvey, died Jan. 15, 1997, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Bethany Lutheran Church, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Myrtle Durdahl
Myrtle Durdahl, 91, Bismarck Baptist Home, died Jan. 14, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bismarck Baptist Home, with burial in Hafslo Cemetery, Crookston, Minn.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Davis, Bismarck; one son, Lyle, Casper, Wyo.; one brother, Art Moren, Crookston. (Dakota Memorial Chapel)

Betty Place, 73, Mandan, died Jan. 15, 1997, at her home. Arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Jerome Decker
DICKINSON -- Jerome Decker, 90, Dickinson, died Jan. 14, 1997, in the Dickinson nursing home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MST Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.

He is survived by five sons, Anton, Albert and Martin, all of Dickinson, Valentine, Big Timber, Ore., and Arthur, South Heart; two daughters, Martha Hondl, Dickinson, and Eva Messer, Richardton; two brothers, Ralph, Yakima, Wash., and Martin, Dickinson; and one sister, Veronica Kuntz, Dickinson. Otto Ottmar
ELGIN -- Otto Ottmar, 83, Elgin, died Jan. 15, 1997, in the Elgin hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elgin, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Louise; one son, Odell, Bismarck; one daughter, Sheila Ottmar, Jamestown; and three sisters, Christina Nagel, Elgin, Freda Dachtler, Davis, Calif., and Irma Kytonen, Colville, Wash. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

Donald Herriot
WILLISTON -- Donald Herriot, 72, Williston, died Jan. 14, 1997, in the Williston hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Elda Brinkman
Elda Martha Brinkman, 75, 811 N. Eighth St., died Jan. 16, 1997, in her home. Services will be at 10-30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jim Cissel officiating. Burial will be in St. Johns United Church of Christ Cemetery, Hebron.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Elda was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Hebron, the daughter of Fred and Martha (Krueger) Reetz. Her mother died when she was six. Since all the children were so young, they were sent to stay with different relatives. Elda stayed with her grandparents in Hebron and also with an aunt and uncle at Daisy. After her dad was able to provide a home, all the kids were together again. Elda attended schools in Almont, Hebron and Mandan. She married Stanley Brinkman in 1941. After her divorce, she and her daughters made their home with her dad in Almont until his death in 1948. She continued to live in Almont until she moved to Bismarck in 1962. She worked at Capital Laundry until 1973 when she began working for Central Dakota Hospital Laundry, where she worked until she retired in 1993.

She was a member of Almont Lutheran Church, and most recently, Calvary United Methodist Church. She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, crossword puzzles, TV game shows and playing cards with her family.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Jim Walth, Mandan, and Ardys and Charles Dohman, Pierre, S.D.; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Deanna (Walth) and Randy Meissner, Mandan; one grandson, David Walth, Mandan; three step-granddaughters and their husbands, Lynda and Jerry Jacobson, Diane and Paul Januscheitis, and Darlene and Dan Doyle, and their families. She also leaves a very special great-granddaughter, Brianna Nicole Meissner, who was the love and joy of her great-grandma. She leaves one brother and sister-in-law, Delbert and Marilee Reetz, Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Laura and Earl Ericksen, Seattle, and Ardella and Robert Seibert, Clear Lake, Minn.; nine nieces and six nephews. She also leaves her special friends, Mary Jane Borman, Bertha Stegmeier, Elsie Tomlinson and Edene Hoffer.

Elda was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Marvin; one sister, Betty Knox; and a very special someone, Ed Weinberger.

Norma Esser
ALMONT -- Norma Martha Esser, 51, formerly of Almont, came to know real peace, Jan. 14, 1997, when she died at her home in Hoogeveen, Holland. Services will be in Hoogeveen and a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Almont Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Van Vechten Crane officiating. Burial will be in Hoogeveen.

Nomra Kilen was born Feb. 3, 1945, the daughter of Norman and Helen (Joersz) Kilen. Her parents lived on the Joersz homestead close to Almont. She grew up around the Almont community and was very active in church and school choir, Youth League and many other community and school events. She also taught Sunday school. She was the oldest of ``the boys" as her dad called his girls when there was work to do on the farm. Norma graduated from Almont High School in 1963. She tested her wings when she went to Washington State to live and work as a keypunch operator for six years before returning to North Dakota. During her teen years and later, she remained in contact with a Pen Pal in Holland named Bert. They met in 1973 and she flew to Europe in 1974 when they became engaged. On April 26, 1975, they were married in Almont. Norma was an avid letter writer and loved talking to people. Next to her Lord, her family and friends were most important to her.

Norma will be deeply missed by those who survive her, including her husband, Bert; two sons, Norbert and Mark, who live in Hoogeveen; her mother, Helen Kilen, Mandan; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Duane Zimmerman, Mandan, Arlene and Eddie Beckness, Bismarck, and Ethel and Doug Heald, Sunrise Beach, Mo.; one brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Colleen Kilen, Bismarck; and many friends and family in the United States and Holland.

She was preceded in death by her father, Norman. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Betty Place
Betty J. Place, 73, Mandan, died Jan. 15, 1997, in her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Betty was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Pendleton, Ore., the daughter of Fergus and Hazel (Ingalls) Fullerson. As a child, she moved with her family to Glendive, Mont., where she graduated from Dawson County High School in 1940. The family moved to Mandan in 1941, where she was employed by the Mandan Drug Store and later Sak's News Agency. She married George Place in July 1953.

She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, Mandan, and enjoyed gold, reading and going to the movies.

She is survived by her husband, George; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Betty Trollope, Mesa, Ariz., and Kim and Cyndy (Welken) Place, Mandan; five grandchildren, Michael Place, Vickie Davis, Robert Duyer, David Trollope and Tammy Baxter; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Winnie Fullerton, Mandan; and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marie Scott.

Henry VandenBurg
Henry VandenBurg, 85, Lark, died Jan. 15, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. MST Saturday at Flasher School Gym, with the Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Lark.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the Flasher School Gym.

Henry was born July 8, 1911, in Lark, the son of Peter and Johanna (Clausing) VandenBurg. He was raised and educated in the Lark area. On June 20, 1944, Henry was united in marriage to Joyce ``Peggy" Victorine Asplund at the American Lutheran Church, Flasher.

Henry enjoyed farming, ranching, bowling, hunting, and horseshoe and pool playing. He was very active in community affairs. After his retirement he and his wife continued to reside on the ranch.

Henry was a member of Flasher 55 Club.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce ``Peggy"; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Lois, Flasher, Peter and Caren, Fargo, and Kent and Arnetta, Mandan; one daughter, Vicki VandenBurg, Linton; 10 grandchildren; two grandsons-in-law; three granddaughters-in-law; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louie, Hayward, Calif., and James, Bismarck; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Henrietta and Ricky Mallema, Chandler, Minn., Kathryn McNeil, Concord, Calif., and Jacoba and Coby Havens, Flasher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, C.L. ``Neil" and Herman; and two sisters, Christina Nicholay and Johanna VandenBurg.

Ray Krebsbach
GARRISON -- Ray Krebsbach, 91, Garrison, died Jan. 15, 1997, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Sharon Ratke, Minneapolis, and Gail Maxwell, Marne, Mich.; three sons, Kirby, Williston, Keith, Coopersville, Mich., and Kelly, Minot; three brothers, Clarence, Minot, Elmer and Leo, both Garrison; and three sisters, Bea LeFor, Mankato, Minn., Emily Krausert and Josephine Stumvoll, both of Garrison. Carroll Slater
Carroll Slater, 62, McLaughlin, S.D., died Jan. 14, 1997, in McLaughlin. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, McLaughlin, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Alma; his mother, Lucy Slater, McLaughlin; one daughter, Lori Slater, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Brad, Rapid City, and Kent, Mobridge; one brother, Clarence, Surprise, Ariz. (Larson's Funeral Home, Mobridge)

Donald Herriot
WILLISTON -- Donald Herriot, 72, Williston, died Jan. 14, 1997, in the Williston hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Everson Funeral Home, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, both of Williston.

He is survived by three daughters, Donna St. Pierre, Trenton, Lila Sorenson, Fortuna, and Lois Herriot, Trenton; three sons, Ron and Leon, both of Williston, and Dave, Buford.

Rose Kalil
WILLISTON -- Rose Kalil, 87, Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Williston, died Jan. 10, 1997, in Sacramento. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by four sisters, Leona Lukenbill, Sacramento, Marion Knudson, Wilmington, Del., Sadie Zine, Elverta, Calif., and Cecelia Forzley, Great Falls, Mont.; and two brothers, Bud, Fargo, and Mike, Mesa, Ariz. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Agnes Veeder
WATFORD CITY -- Agnes Bergliott Rolfsrud Veeder, 88, Watford City, died Jan. 15, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Assembly of God Church, Watford City, with burial in Johnson Corners Cemetery, rural Watford City.

She is survived by three sons, LeRoy, Watford City, Larry, Red Wing, Minn., and David, Billings, Mont.; and one daughter, Rosalie Veeder, Bottineau. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

She is survived by four sons, Darreld, Mandan, Clayton and Douglas, both of Stanton, and Wallace, Center; one daughter, Sharon Olander, Hazen; two sisters, Mary Christianson, Puyallup, Wash., and Rose Fretty, Stanton; and three brothers, Paul Kurt and Walter Kurt, both of Hazen, and Harold Kurt, Kellogg, Idaho.

Harvey Malard
Harvey Malard, 58, rural Bismarck, died Jan. 16, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bismarck Baptist Church. Further arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

HAZEN -- Emelia Mittelsteadt, 94, Hazen, died Jan. 16, 1997, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Monday at English Lutheran Church, Hazen. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.
