Chester Nelson
NAPOLEON -- Chester E. Nelson, 85, Napoleon, died Jan. 17, 1997, in the Wishek hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, with the Revs. Gary Connors-Nelson and Cathy Connors-Nelson officiating. Spring burial will be in Maria Lutheran Cemetery, Kintyre.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Special music will be provided by Mrs. Jean Lang as organist. Pallbearers for the service are Greg Nagel, Pamela Jo Rhodes, Steven, Brent and Ryan Nelson, Bruce Gruenfelder and Roderick McAllister.

Chester Nelson was born Nov. 9, 1911, at Scarville, Iowa, the son of Carl S. and Emma (Svenson) Nelson. In 1913, the family moved to a farm north of Kintyre where they homesteaded. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in rural Emmons County schools. Chester married Flora McAllister July 12, 1935, in Bismarck. They lived and farmed in the Kintyre area until moving to Napoleon in 1970. Flora Nelson passed away in 1980 following a courageous battle with cancer. On Sept. 3, 1982, Chester married Eva Dosch at Menoken. Following their marriage they made their home in Napoleon, where they had lived since.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Napoleon, the Eagles Club and past member of Napoleon Golf Club and Lion's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; one son, Gary (Elaine), Minneapolis; two daughters, Sandra (Joe) Nagel, Bismarck, and Wanda (Dennis) Yantzer, Minot; one sister, Elva Nordstrom, Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren, Greg Nagel, Pamela Jo Rhodes and Steven, Brent and Ryan Nagel; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Cole Gareth Nelson; three stepchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Flora.

James Stover
BUCYRUS -- James R. Stover, 60, Bucyrus, died Jan. 17, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 9 a.m. MST Wednesday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Stover, Bucyrus; one daughter, Luella Wipf, New England; two sons, Arthur, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, and Anthony, West Fargo; four sisters, Jane McMains, Dallas, Mary Vanderhoff, Warren, Pa., Lola Exley, Franklin, Pa., and Eleanor Mealy, Titusville, Pa.; and three brothers, Ronald, Titusville, Clarence, Pittsburgh, and Thomas, Tionesta, Pa.

Emelia Mittelsteadt
BEULAH -- Emelia Mittelsteadt, 94, Beulah, formerly of Hazen, died Jan. 16, 1997, in the Beulah care center. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Monday at English Lutheran Church, Hazen. Spring burial will be in Hazen City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Knife River Care Center, Beulah, and from 3 to 6 p.m. at the church.

She is survived by two sons, Reuben, Hazen, and Kenneth, Le Sueur, Minn.; and four daughters, Violet Oland, Dent, Minn., Lorna Gauthier, Fargo, Doris Nyline, Minneapolis, and Karen Working, Rialto, Calif. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Nicholas Hilzendeger
NAPOLEON -- Nicholas Hilzendeger, 89, Napoleon, died Jan. 18, 1997, in the Wishek hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Further arrangements are pending with Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.

Fred Wetzel
Fred Wetzel, 87, Mandan, died Jan. 18, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

William Tjenstrom
William J. Tjenstrom, 49, Fargo, formerly of Turtle Lake, died Jan. 18, 1997, in a Fargo hospital. Further arrangements are pending with Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo.

Margaret Riha
Margaret Mary (Peggy) Riha, 71, 500 W. Boulevard Ave., Bismarck, died Dec. 29, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Revs. Thomas E. Kramer and Thomas J. Richter officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Home, Bismarck, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Peggy was born June 6, 1925, at Mantador to Edward John and Alyce (Phelan) Kapsner. She spent her childhood in Wahpeton, Larchwood, Iowa and Mandan, where she graduated from high school in 1943.

She worked for the North Dakota State Auditor's Office from 1943 to 1948, and married Dr. Emil Francis Riha in Mandan on June 7, 1948. The couple lived in Bismarck, where Dr. Riha established a dental practice.

Peggy was very active in the community, serving as a volunteer at St. Alexius Medical Center, Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Meals on Wheels and in her children's school activities. She served as an election clerk and judge in Bismarck for many years. Peggy was a member of Mary College Ancilla Club, Catholic Daughters of America and North Dakota Dental Auxiliary. She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and embroiderer and enjoyed many other crafts.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Margaret Riha Feldick and Robert Feldick, Shoreview, Minn., and Patricia Riha, Apple Valley, Minn.; one son, Richard Riha, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Marian Kapsner, Bismarck; one nephew and spouse, John C. Kapsner and Carol Ronning Kapsner, Bismarck and their children, Mical, St. Paul, Minn., and Caithlin, Salem, Ore.; three aunts, Tillie Brouillard, Minneapolis, Nora Phelan, Larchwood, Iowa, and Catherine Kapsner, St. Cloud, Minn.; as well as numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; her parents, Edward and Alyce; and one brother, John E. Kapsner.

Henry Kostelecky
DICKINSON -- Henry V. Kostelecky, 84, Dickinson, died Dec. 31, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Thursday, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in the Dickinson Mausoleum.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, Dickinson; one daughter, Virginia Nelson, Fargo; two sisters, Rose Frenzel, Dickinson, and Mary Zentner, Tacoma, Wash.; and three brothers, Otto, Edwin and Albert, all of Tacoma. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Hattie Tuhy
DICKINSON -- Hattie Tuhy, 78, Dickinson, died Dec. 30, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Harold Wahl
STEELE -- Harold Wahl, 83, Steele, died Dec. 31, 1996, in the Steele care center. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck-Steele.

Melvin Thorson
Melvin Thorson, 97, Longview, Wash., died Dec. 27, 1996, in a nursing home.

Melvin was born April 30, 1899 in Spring Grove, Minn. He spent nearly half his life farming in the Moffit area, then moved to Washington. He worked for Weyerhauser Lumber until retiring.

Survivors include his wife, Nora; one daughter, Deanna; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Chris Thorson, Bismarck.

Joseph O'Brien
A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be for Dr. Joseph E. O'Brien, 70, Bismarck, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. A parish vigil will follow at 8 p.m.

Royal Auck
Royal C. Auck, 70, Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Coleharbor, died Dec. 30, 1996, in a Colorado Springs hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Friday at Mountain View Mortuary Chapel, Colorado Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; one son, Chuck, Colorado Springs; one daughter, Roxanne Vaughan, Baltimore, Md.; four brothers, Lyle, Centralia, Mo., Donald, Colorado Springs, Dale, Greenfield, Mo., and Lynn, Coleharbor; and two sisters, Janice Straub, Colorado Springs, and Carol Olson, Minot.

Don Bintliff
WILLISTON -- Don Bintliff, 46, Williston, died Dec. 29, 1996, in a Williston hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at First Lutheran Church, Williston. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle; two sons, Matthew and Christopher; one daughter, Heather; his parents, Doyle and Mary Bintliff, Stoughton, Wis.; one sister, Pat Murphy, Stoughton; and one brother, Steve, Glendale, Ariz. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Alice Theige
WILLISTON -- Services for Alice Theige, 41, Williston, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Everson Funeral Home, Williston. Further arrangements are pending.

Robert Vennes
WILLISTON -- Robert J. Vennes, 75, Williston, died Dec. 30, 1996, in the Williston hospital. Arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Bonnie Hieb
HARVEY -- Bonnie Hieb, 60, Harvey, died Dec. 30, 1996, at her home. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Anton `Tony' Himmelspach
Anton ``Tony" Himmelspach, 68, 911 Collins Ave., Mandan, died Jan. 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. today. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7 tonight, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30 and a St. Anthony Verein rosary at 8.

Anton was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Oliver County, the son of Mike and Veronica (Doll) Himmelspach. He was raised and educated in Oliver County. He married Ann Geiger, June 6, 1949, in Center. Tony farmed in the Center area. In 1953, they moved to Mandan where Tony worked for Meissner Construction and Froeschle Construction as a crane operator, retiring in 1985. Tony was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers since 1959.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Moose and St. Anthony Verein.

He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Keith, Mandan, and Kevin and Brenda, Mandan; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathy and Monte Berreth, Mandan, and Geri Chillemi and her friend, Jon Natwick, Bismarck; 10 grandchildren, Kim Hirchert, Curtis and Travis Berreth, Michael Flakker, Mark and Gina Chillemi and Angel, Amber, Susan and Chad Himmelspach; one brother, Peter, Mandan; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Matt Yantzer, Mandan; and one sister-in-law, Bernice Himmelspach, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ann, who died in 1996; two brothers, Ted and Martin; and one sister-in-law, Kathleen Himmelspach.

Rosemarie Weinberger
NEW SALEM -- Rosemarie Weinberger, 64, New Salem, died Jan. 20, 1997, in her home. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Pius Catholic Church, New Salem, with burial in Sentinel Butte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church after 4 p.m. Wednesday. A parish rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. MST Wednesday, followed by a parish vigil at 7, both at the church.

Rosemarie Tescher was born March 2, 1932, in Wannegan Township, north of Sentinel Butte, the daughter of Mathias and Antoinette (Glass) Tescher. She was raised and educated in Sentinel Butte. She attended Dickinson State College, graduating with a teacher's certificate. She taught country school in Carlson School north of Sentinel Butte for one year, and at Westerheim School northeast of Sentinel Butte for two years. She married Lloyd Brown, June 13, 1950, in Sentinel Butte. He died in 1977. She worked as a nurses aide at Golden Valley County Hospital in Beach. She received her LPN certificate from the University of North Dakota-Williston in 1981. She continued working at Golden Valley County Hospital in Beach from 1981-85. Rosemarie married Nick Weinberger, Sept. 28, 1984, in Sentinel Butte. From 1985-89 she worked at Jacobson Community Hospital in Elgin. She worked at Elm Crest Nursing Home from 1990 until April 1996.

She is survived by her husband, Nick; three sons and daughters-in-law, Art and Sandy, Dickinson, Rod and Diane, Beach, and Bradley and Kay, Fargo; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sandi and Bob, Maple Grove, Minn., Arlys and Joe, Golva, Beverly, Williston, and Raeanne and Loren, Willows, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jim and Loretta Tescher, and Alvin and Betty, all of Beach, and Tom and Lorraine, Medora; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Cecelia Rutledge, Sun City, Ariz., Marie Maus, Beach, Rosalie and Al Lang, Bismarck, Donna and Jim Lowman, Fairfield, Alice and John Meginnes, Tucson, Ariz., and Joan and Roy Kittelson, Beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lloyd; four brothers, Tony, Pete, Donald and Mathias; one infant sister, Antoinette; and one grandson, Jacob Brown.

Hershel `Mark' Marquis
Hershel D. ``Mark" Marquis, 91, 208 W. Ave. D, died Jan. 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Gordon Gullickson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be one hour before services.

Hershel was born Sept. 15, 1905, in Astoria, Ill., the son of Ernest and Mary (Danner) Marquis. He graduated from Heron (S.D.) High School in 1923. Hershel married Alyce Young, April 24, 1926, in De Smet, S.D. He worked for Montana-Dakota Utilities and Graybar Electric as a salesman, and also for Jobbers Moving and Storage.

He loved to golf and garden.

Hershel is survived by his wife, Alyce; two daughters and one son-in-law, Joan Wyatt, Louisville, Ky., and Janice and Lloyd Kempf, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
