Kenneth Nelson
Kenneth P. Nelson, 66, 215 E. Arbor Ave., died Jan. 20, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steven Sathre officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Kenneth was born May 1, 1930, in Minneapolis, the son of M.A. and Ann (Braun) Nelson. He was raised and attended school in the Minneapolis area. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Ken married Patricia Griffin, April 29, 1955, in Bismarck. He worked as a realtor in the Bismarck-Mandan area until his retirement from Oak Tree Realtors in 1996.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Amvets, Eagles and Elks. He served as president and state president of Eagles. For many years, Ken and Patricia volunteered their time for the Home on the Range Benefit Pancake Breakfast. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; two daughters and one son-in-law, Connie and Mike Schwartz, Bismarck, and Kristie Anderson, Beulah; one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Denise, Grand Forks; his mother, Ann Longley, Wabasha, Minn.; one half-sister and her husband, Mary and Glenn Polyard, Wabasha; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Sandy McLean, Bismarck, and Nancy and Sonny Simpson, California; one brother, David Nelson, White Fish, Mont.; one half-brother, Larry Longley, Texas; and four grandchildren, Melanie and Caryn Schwartz, and Casey and Kohl Anderson.

Katherine Peters
MOTT -- Services for Katherine Peters, 93, a life-long resident of Mott, will be at 10:30 a.m. MST Wednesday at Church of St. Vincent de Paul, Mott, with the Rev. Lawrence Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her sons, Leonard, Robert, Kenneth, Fred, Ted and Tom Peters.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott. A rosary will be said at 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Katherine Burghart was born Jan. 1, 1904, at Gladstone, to peter and Katherina (Lulay) Burghart. Her family homesteaded north of Mott, where Katherine spent her childhood and attended school. She was united in marriage to Fred Peters in November 1924. They lived in Mott and began raising a family of 12 children. Fred died in December 1985. Katherine lived at home for some time before entering the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott in September 1992.

Katherine enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, sewing and cooking. Katherine died Jan. 19, 1997, in the Hettinger hospital.

Grateful for having shared her life are six sons and one daughter-in-law, Leonard and Kenneth, both of Mott, Robert, Buena Park, Calif., Fred and Carol, Del Rio, Texas, and Ted and Peggy, and Tom, all of Bismarck; five daughters and four sons-in-law,Claire and Gordon Zimmel, Browerville, Minn., Cathryn Peters, Chicago, Ill., Rosalie and Del Rowe, Rockford, Ill., Edith and Bob Pederson, Coupeville, Wash., and Cheryl and Rick McNeill, Mott; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; one son, Walter; and two brothers, Jacob and Peter Burghart.

A memorial has been established to Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Mott.

Theodore Gessele
Theodore E. Gessele, Brooklyn Park, Minn., formerly of Apache Junction, Ariz., died Jan. 18, 1997, in Minneapolis. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mercer, and at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Epiphany Lutheran Church, Apache Junction.

He was born Dec. 19, 1915, in rural Mercer. Ted was a long-time resident and community leader in Mercer until 1988 when he and Alvira took up permanent residence in Arizona. He was an employee of Amoco Oil Co. for 33 years.

An active member of his church and serving it in various capacities, he sang in a men's chorus in Arizona. Ted was afflicted by diabetes in his later years and moved to Minnesota to close his days with his family. He eventually succumbed to complications brought on by renal failure.

Ted is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alvira; one son, James, Minneapolis; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Don Gulseth, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two grandchildren, Matthew Gulseth, Minneapolis, and Leah Gulseth, Chicago; one brother and sister-in-law, Mervyn and Marilyn, Bismarck; five sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen, and Lyla and Stan Nicholson, all of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Edna Lilja and Aletha Vossler, both of Bismarck, Ella Berg, Wilton; and three sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Violet, both of Mercer, and Beverly, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry; his mother, Katherine Singer Gessele; two sisters and five brothers.

The family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.

Milton Moses
Milton Moses, 77, 442 Bledsoe Road N.W., Albuquerque, N.M., died of cancer, Jan. 13, 1997, in his home. Services will be at Northdale Baptist Church, Albuquerque.

Milton was born March 28, 1919, near Wing, the son of Emil and Emily Moses. He attended Rock Hill rural school and graduated from Bismarck High School. In 1940, he enlisted in the U.S. Army with the 188th Field Artillery and spent several years in the military. At one time he was stationed at Deming, N.M., where he met Beulah Mae Edmonston. They were married Nov. 7, 1943. He later became a bee-keeper in the honey business. In 1980, he and Beulah bought a store that they enlarged and developed into Moses Health Food Store. He was a good businessman and a devout Christian.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Clay Austin, Pueblo, Colo., and Marietta and Michael Kane, Collegeville, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Moses, Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Melanie and Kristin Austin, Pueblo, Amanda Kane, Collegeville, and Nathan and Esther Moses, Albuquerque; one sister and brother-in-law, Louella and Donald Lange, Baldwin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Virginia, Moorhead, Minn., and Marlowe and Rosemary, Wing; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Lawrence and Carl.

Samantha Abel
MINOT -- Samantha Abel, the infant daughter of David and Susan Abel, Minot, died Jan. 18, 1997, in a Minneapolis hospital. Private services will be held, with burial in Rosehill Memorial park, Minot.

She is survived by her parents, David and Susan; her grandparents, James and Evangeline Legg, McClusky, Bonnie Abel, Minot, and James Abel, Velva; and her great-grandparents, John and Barbara Gerger, Velva, and Ella Peterson, Crosby. (Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot)

Lloyd Halvorson
MINOT -- Lloyd Halvorson, 84, Minot, died Jan. 19, 1997, in a Minot hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, with burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Roseglen.

He is survived by one brother, Curtis, West Fargo; and three sisters, Lillian Anderson, Wahpeton, Eleanor Kolkind, Isanti, Minn., and Adeline Thompson, Minot. (Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot)

Harlan Jeep
Harlan Jeep, 70, 810 N. 28th St., died Jan. 20, 1997, at his home. Private graveside services will be at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery, Evansville, Wyo., at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Twila; two daughters, Christine Wiley, Fremont, Calif., and Mary Rugge, Bismarck; one son, Charles, Fargo; and one sister, Eunice Taylor, Seattle. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

William Yellow Hammer
CANNON BALL -- William Yellow Hammer, 75, Cannon Ball, died Jan. 18, 1997, in his home. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Cannon Ball School Gym, with burial in Big Lake Cemetery, rural Cannon Ball.

He is survived by three sons, Glen, Fort Yates, and Earlwin and Darrell, both of Cannon Ball. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

Adam Schumacher
ASHLEY -- Adam Schumacher, 75, Ashley, died Jan. 20, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague. Further arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Michael Ulmer
DICKINSON -- Michael Duane Ulmer, 30, Dickinson, died Jan. 18, 1997. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with burial in Dickinson Cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Andrew Charles, Dickinson; his father, Ron Ulmer, Reedpoint, Mont.; and his grandfather, Wilburt Ulmer, Dickinson. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Alvin Moos
BEULAH -- Alvin Edward Moos, 78, Beulah, died Jan. 19, 1997, at his home of natural causes. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Thursday at Beulah Congregational Church. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Emma Kostelecky
DICKINSON -- Emma Kostelecky, 83, Dickinson, died Jan. 19, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in Dickinson Mausoleum.

She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Nelson, Fargo. (Price-Gaffaney Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Kenneth Kirchmeier
WILLISTON -- Kenneth W. Kirchmeier, 58, Williston, died Jan. 19, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church, Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Ida; three sons, Mark, Eagan, Minn., Derek, Denver, and Christopher, Grand Forks; and four daughters, Melanie Boyes, Casper, Wyo., Melissa Benson, Grand Forks, Angela Kirchmeier, Casper, and Marie Kirchmeier, Williston. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston)

David Thome
GRENORA -- David Thome, 77, Grenora, died Jan. 17, 1997, in his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Grenora.

He is survived by three sisters, Lillian Snowberger, Renton, Wash., Dorothy Thome, Grenora, and Sister Mary Monica, Bismarck; and one brother, Theodore, Grenora. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Thelma Stegner
BOWMAN -- Thelma Stegner, 83, Bowman, died Jan. 15, 1997, in the Bowman nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Feb. 1 at Bowman United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be Jan. 21-22 at Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman.

She is survived by one daughter, Kay Godfrey, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one son, Floyd, Colorado Springs; and three sisters, Willa Rustan, Dickinson, Frances Woll, Mount Vernon, Wash., and Myrtle Claire, Wolf Point, Mont.

Rosemarie Weinberger
NEW SALEM -- Rosemarie Weinberger, 64, New Salem, died Jan. 20, 1997, in her home. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Pius Catholic Church, New Salem, with burial in Sentinel Butte Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church after 4 p.m. today. A parish rosary will be said at 6:30 MST tonight followed by a parish vigil at 7, both at the church.

Rosemarie Tescher was born March 2, 1932, in Wannegan Township, north of Sentinel Butte, the daughter of Mathias and Antoinette (Glass) Tescher. She was raised and educated in Sentinel Butte. She attended Dickinson State College, graduating with a teacher's certificate. She taught country school in Carlson School north of Sentinel Butte for one year, and at Westerheim School northeast of Sentinel Butte for two years. She married Lloyd Brown, June 13, 1950, in Sentinel Butte. He died in 1977. She worked as a nurses' aide at Golden Valley County Hospital in Beach. She received her LPN certificate from the University of North Dakota-Williston in 1981. She continued working at Golden Valley County Hospital in Beach from 1981-85. Rosemarie married Nick Weinberger, Sept. 28, 1984, in Sentinel Butte. From 1985-89 she worked at Jacobson Community Hospital in Elgin. She worked at Elm Crest Nursing Home from 1990 until April 1996.

She is survived by her husband, Nick; three sons and daughters-in-law, Art and Sandy Brown, Dickinson, Rod and Diane Brown, Beach, and Bradley and Kay Brown, Fargo; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sandi and Bob Amaro, Maple Grove, Minn., Arlys and Joe Kreitinger, Golva, Beverly Rude, Williston, and Raeanne and Loren Bouldin, Willows, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jim and Loretta Tescher, and Alvin and Betty Tescher, all of Beach, and Tom and Lorraine Tescher, Medora; six sisters and four brothers-in-law, Cecelia Rutledge, Sun City, Ariz., Marie Maus, Beach, Rosalie and Al Lang, Bismarck, Donna and Jim Lowman, Fairfield, Alice and John Meginnes, Tucson, Ariz., and Joan and Roy Kittelson, Beach. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lloyd; four brothers, Tony, Pete, Donald and Mathias; one infant sister, Antoinette; and one grandson, Jacob Brown.

Jack Mason
Jack B. Mason, 81, 5312 Riverview Drive, Lisle, Ill., died Dec. 27, 1996, in Lisle, where he has lived for the past 28 years. Services were held in Janesville, Wis., with burial in Milton Lawns Memorial Park, Janesville.

Jack was born Sept. 12, 1915, at Sunny, the son of John W. and Mary (Johnson) Mason. He graduated from Mandan High School in 1932 and went to work for the Mandan and Purity Dairy Creameries as a truck driver. In 1936, he started working for Consolidated Freightways as a transport operator in Fargo. He married Helen Marie Addie, June 20, 1938, at Milton. His work with Consolidated took them to Mauston, Wis., Billings, Mont., Bismarck, Glendive, Mont., Portland, Ore., Chattanooga, Tenn., and Brownsburg, Ind. After retirement, Jack went to work for Terminal Transport in McCook, Ill., and then for Hauto and Otto Printing Co. in Chicago.

He was a member of Al Bedoo Temple, Billings, Mont., the Elks and Masonic Lodge of Mandan, and the Methodist Church.

Jack is survived by his wife, Helen Marie; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Don Schultz, Juneau, Alaska; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Marilyn Mason, Minneapolis, and Allen and Mary Mason, Lisle, Ill.; six grandchildren, Deborah Hart and Matthew Schultz, Juneau, Mitchell and Leah Mason, Minneapolis, and Jack and Shawn Mason, Lisle; and one sister, Wanda Froelich, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his father, John; and his mother, Mary.

The family prefers memorials to the Al Bedoo Temple, Children's Transportation Trust, Box 20673, Billings, Mont., 59104.

Adam Schumacher
ASHLEY -- Services for Adam Schumacher, 75, Ashley, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hague, with the Revs. Wendelyn Vetter and Frank Miller officiating. He died Jan. 20, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley, and will continue at the church after 8:30 a.m. Thursday. A rosary will be said at 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Adam was born April 28, 1921, on the family homestead 11 miles northwest of Venturia to John P. and Julia (Geffre) Schumacher. This is where he grew up and attended school. After starting to farm on the home farmstead, Adam was married to Barbara Glatt, Oct. 19, 1943, in Hague. They were involved in grain farming and milking. In 1956, they built a 50-stall barn with modern equipment. Unfortunately it burned down in July 1962, but was quickly replaced with a new one, with the help of many friends, family and neighbors. In 1973, they sold the dairy cattle and got into raising beef cattle. In 1966, their youngest son, Dean, took over the farming operation and they moved to Ashley. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Hague in 1993 with many friends and family.

He is survived by his wife; nine children; and three siblings.
