HALLIDAY -- Alvin Pollestad, 78, Halliday, died Jan. 21, 1997, in the Killdeer nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Halliday, with burial in Halliday Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou; and two sisters, Hazel Hedger, Troutdale, Ore., and Palma Irons Roknes, Dickinson. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Rev. Edward Boardman
FESSENDEN -- The Rev. Edward Joseph Boardman, 43, Fessenden, died Jan. 20, 1997, in a Rochester, Minn. hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Nazarene, Fessenden, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Fessenden.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; three daughters, Seana, Brenna and Alaine, all of Fessenden; his father, Clyde Boardman Sr., Newport, N.H.; three sisters, Sherri Hart, Kingwood, Texas, Lynette Blaisdell, Stoddard, N.H., and Barbara Lara, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one brother, Clyde Jr., Mira Mesa, Calif. Mary Baumgartner
STRASBURG -- Mary Baumgartner, 94, Strasburg, died Jan. 20, 1997, in the Strasburg nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by four sons, Jake, Rapid City, S.D., Herman, Hamilton, Ohio, Oscar, Bismarck, and Alvin, Fargo; six daughters, Angeline Miller and Lorraine Davidson, both of Bismarck, Adeline Duerscherl, West St. Paul, Minn., Isabelle Motzko, Fridley, Minn., Virginia Westberg, Fargo, and Rosemary Baumgartner, Milwaukee; three sisters, Elizabeth Niess, Minot, Eva Schwab, Devils Lake, Catherine Zacher, Balta; and one brother, Joe Stach, Oscoda, Mich. Martha Buechler
BEULAH -- Martha Buechler, 86, Beulah, died Jan. 22, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Saturday at Beulah Church of God, with burial in Beulah Cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Calvin, Golden Valley, and Larry, Bismarck; one daughter, Virginia Schramm, Minneapolis; three sisters, Evelyn Miller, Osburn, Idaho, Rose Wolf, Beulah, and Esther Weiand, Phoenix; and four brothers, Dave, Art and Herbert, all of Beulah, and Ervin, Hazen. Kyle Baumstarck
Kyle Eric Baumstarck, 26, Worland, Wyo., died Jan. 20, 1997, in Wyoming. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Linton. Further arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Alice Tatro
HETTINGER -- Alice Tatro, 77, Hettinger, died Jan. 24, 1997, in the Hettinger nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Hettinger Lutheran Church, with burial in Hettinger Cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Artha Stokka, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four sisters, Alma Hokanson, Fresno, Calif., Gladys Greij, Minnie Luckow and Mathilda Ehlers, all of Hettinger. (Walby Chapel, Hettinger)

Henry Joersz
HAZEN -- Henry Herman Joersz, 86, Hazen, died Jan. 23, 1997, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. David Suelzle officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. MST today at Knife River Care Center, Beulah, and from 3-8 p.m. today at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Henry was born June 19, 1910, south of New Salem, a son of Herman and Martha (Borschers) Joersz, who farmed in the area. He was raised and educated while living on the family farm with his parents. On Oct. 25, 1935, he married Kathryn Weber at New Salem, where they lived until moving to a farm near Almont in 1941. Henry and Kathryn lived on this farm just east of Almont until 1949 when they moved back to New Salem and started in the bakery business, initially in partnership with his nephew, Marvin Moos, subsequently as the sole owner. In 1951 they moved the bakery business to Hazen, where he baked and sold his product until he sold the business to Bill Baier in 1960. He then transitioned to a position as school janitor in the Hazen school system. In 1972 he officially retired, but continued working at various jobs in the community for the next 10 years or so. After a period of slowly declining health, Henry lived in the Knife River Care Center, Beulah, for the last 2 years.

Henry was a dedicated member, choir member and elder of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, a Hazen City Commissioner and enjoyed fishing and camping. But, he may best be remembered for his frequent walks to the post office and his ready interaction with anyone enroute.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Claudia, Buffalo, N.Y., and Eldon and Carol, Springfield, Va.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Corrine and Fred Knutson, Montevideo, Minn., and Renelle, who lives at home with Kathryn; his grandchildren, Renee and Sherry, Jonothan, Jessica and Jeremy, and Chad, Kirstie and Jeffery; two great-grandchildren, Eric Lundberg, son of Renee and Bryon Lundberg, and Ashton Knutson, son of Jeffery and Stacy Knutson; and one sister, Helen Kilen, Mandan.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and his oldest son, Ronald.

Gaylord Hild
STEELE -- Gaylord A. Hild, 83, Steele, died Jan. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Church of Christ, Dawson.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel and at the church one hour before services. A Masonic service will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Maude Grambs
Maude L. Grambs, 97, 620 N. Fourth St., died Jan. 24, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Mark Bayert officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Maude Louise Angliss was born Dec. 6, 1899, at Dickinson, the daughter of Frederick and Harriet Angliss. She grew up and attended school in Dickinson. She taught school in Dickinson for one year before moving to Bismarck. Maude was employed as a secretary for the State Regulatory Department, and later at the Tax Department. She then served as a committee clerk for the North Dakota House of Representatives for many legislative sessions. On Jan. 22, 1938, she married Granville Grambs in Chicago. Mr. Grambs died May 18, 1978. Maude was actively involved in politics during her life, and volunteered for many campaigns. She was a member of Bismarck Republican Women and worked as a precinct committee woman and election official. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Maude will be especially remembered for her love of animals.

She is survived by two nieces, Patricia Van Den Elzen, Lacey, Wash., and June Richmond, Oriskany Falls, N.Y.; two nephews, Darrell Spencer, Billings, Mont., and James Angliss, Bellevue, Wash.; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and many, many friends.

In addition to her husband, Maude was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and two sisters.

The family prefers memorials to Dakota Zoo or First Presbyterian Church.

Eddo Carlson
Eddo L. Carlson, 72, 3150 Manchester Place, Bismarck, died Jan. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. A Masonic service will begin at 1-30 p.m. Tuesday at United Church of Christ, where a memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Jim Moos will officiate at the memorial service. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Eddo was born Dec. 3, 1924, at Freda, the son of Edwin O. and Beulah (Sardeson) Carlson. He attended school at Shields, Mandan High School and Elgin High School. He completed ICSC, management I and II, at the University of Oklahoma and Michigan State University, as well as special courses at the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University.

Eddo served in the Ninth Amphibian Tractor Battalion Company B in World War II.

He operated his own home building business for 18 years. He was project manager during the construction of Kirkwood Mall and general manager of Kirkwood Mall from 1968-1978. He left Kirkwood Mall to be vice president of store development for KG Men's Stores until 1982. Eddo managed the Demarcos Men's Store at the Eastridge Mall in Casper, Wyo. from 1982-1983, and from there he was the manager-promotional director of Northbrook from 1983-1987. He then semi-retired and drove tour bus for Harlow's Bus Service until the fall of 1996.

He was a charter member of United Church of Christ, where he served as the first moderator and held several other positions in the church through the years. Eddo served on the Bismarck City Commission for 12 years from 1952-1964, his portfolio included the department of sanitation, airport, public buildings and street lighting. He was instrumental in establishing the Burleigh County Planning Commission, of which he was a member for 10 years, and served on the Memorial Building Commission.

He served on numerous other boards including the Board of Directors for the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Bismarck Area Chamber of Commerce and General Manager of the Miss Bismarck Pageant. Eddo was president of Pioneer PTA and was on the Lincoln School Board.

Eddo was an avid horseman. He served as president and trail boss of the Badlands Trail Riders Association for its Labor Day rides in Medora.

Eddo was master of the Lewis and Clark Masonic Lodge No. 132 and president of the Shrine Club. He belonged to the Elks Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Eddo was also grand counselor for the United Commercial Travelers for the North Dakota-Minnesota jurisdiction.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis; one son, Larry, Melbourne, Australia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marcella Lively, Los Angeles, and Deborah and Walter Price, Lexington, Ky.; two grandchildren, Lisa Parson, Los Angeles, and Todd Durkin, India; one brother, Douglas, Dickinson; one sister, Adeline Johnson, Gillette, Wyo.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Carlson, Kalamazoo, Mich., and Eunice Dietrick, Cavalier; and several nieces and nephews.; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Virginia Peltzer; and two brothers, Lyle and Bernard.

The family prefers memorials to United Church of Christ or Bismarck Masonic Lodge No. 132. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Gaylord Hild
Gaylord Adam Hild, 83, Steele, died Jan. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Church of Christ, Dawson, with the Revs. Virgil Allard and Greg Odell officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, where a Masonic service will begin at 5 p.m. today.

Gaylord was born Jan. 7, 1914, in Lisbon, the son of Joseph and Lena (Klein) Hild. He grew up on the farm near Steele and graduated from Steele High School in 1933. He attended two years of college at North Dakota State University in Fargo. He farmed for two years, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served his country during World War II in the Panama Canal Zone. Upon his discharge from the Army he returned to Steele to farm.

Gaylord married Mildred Hoeft in 1947. They had two sons, Gary, born in 1951, and James, born in 1956. He and Mildred retired from farming in 1975 and moved into Steele. Gaylord continued to work as the VA Officer for Kidder County.

He was active in the United Church of Christ (Kidder County Parish) for many years. He served on the state conference board for the UCC, was a youth leader, parish president and all-around caregiver for the parish. His care and giving spirit extended to his service in the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, ambulance crew, Lake Isabel caretaker, Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. His love for his family, community, church and environment was practiced throughout his life.

Gaylord is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mildred; and his sons, Gary and James.

The family prefers memorials to Golden Manor Auxiliary, Steele.

Joseph Feist
Joseph Feist, 60, Bismarck, died Jan. 25, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas R. Marcis Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Baldwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Joseph was born Jan. 28, 1936, at Linton, the son of John and Regina (Roehrich) Feist. He attended the local rural school near Burnstad, where he received his elementary education. He helped on the family farm and worked as a farm laborer for Adam Braun and Warren Reed in the Bismarck-Menoken area. In 1963 he began working for Kirschmann Manufacturing which later became Melroe in Bismarck. He and Darlene (Williams) Butz were married June 27, 1970, in Bismarck. They lived in Bismarck where he continued to work for Melroe for 34 years until his retirement due to ill health.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bismarck, Eagles Club, United Commercial Travelers, Farm Bureau and American Association of Retired Persons.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; two sons, Dallan, Kansas City, Kan., and Robert, Bismarck; one daughter, Rebecca Feist, Bismarck; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Pete and Rose, Bismarck, Paul, Oakridge, Ore., and James and Peggie, Groton, S.D.; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Eva Schulz, Bismarck, Irene and William Hager, Oakridge, Ore., Mary DeCaro, Springfield, Ore., Anne and Leo Bosch, Menoken, and Helen and Chuck Gustafson, Plymouth, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one infant sister. (Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Joseph Mosser
STRASBURG -- Joseph Mosser, 82, Strasburg, died Jan. 26, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Warren Swanson
TURTLE LAKE -- Warren V. Swanson, 68, Turtle Lake, died Jan. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with burial in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, Turtle Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Violet; one daughter, Donna Sandvik, South Heart; two sons, Dan, Bowman, and Randy, Max; and one brother, Calvin, Esmond. (Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake)

Alvin Grabinger
TURTLE LAKE -- Alvin Grabinger, 86, Turtle Lake, died Jan. 25, 1997, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Turtle Lake, with the Rev. James Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, and will continue after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A prayer service will being at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Alvin was born July 27, 1910, near Underwood, to Andrew and Emma (Ahrens) Grabinger. He grew up on his parents' farm northeast of Underwood and attended rural school. He graduated from Turtle Lake High School. As a young man he farmed in McLean County and later settled on a farm six miles northwest of Turtle Lake. He married Viola Sigmund on Jan. 8, 1937, at Underwood. She died Dec. 2, 1976. He moved into Turtle Lake in 1978 but remained active in the farming operation. He had been in ill health for the past year.

He was active in his church and community, and enjoyed playing cards.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Bev and Bob Bergquist, Wilton; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Donna, Turtle Lake; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Edward Zwicker, Turtle Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers; and two sisters.
