Edna Ginther
WILLISTON -- Edna Ginther, 103, Williston, died Jan. 24, 1997, in the Williston hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Home, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Cora Mattson
NEW ROCKFORD -- Cora B. Mattson, 91, New Rockford, died Jan. 25, 1997, in the New Rockford nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock, with burial in Klara Lutheran Cemetery, rural Heimdal.

She is survived by one daughter, Marlyes Longo, Palm Desert, Calif.; and one sister, Mavis Strong, Spokane, Wash. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Daniel Gange
COLSTRIP, Mont. -- Daniel R. Gange, 40, Colstrip, formerly of Underwood, died of cancer Jan. 24, 1997, at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Colstrip, with burial in Colstrip Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Brian and Jeremy, both at home; his daughter, Lisa, at home; his parents, Lloyd and Norma Gange, Colstrip; three sisters, Diane Wyrick, Forsyth, Mont., Debra Satlak, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Daunine Koski, Marquette, Mich.; and his grandparents, John and Nellie Lutter, Zell, S.D. (Beals Mortuary, Colstrip)

Joseph Mosser
Joseph J. Mosser, 82, Strasburg, died Jan. 26, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10-30 a.m. Thursday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, where a rosary and prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Joseph was born June 1, 1914, on a farm near Hague, the son of Nickolas and Mathilda (Muller) Mosser. He attended school at Hague. Joseph served in the Civilian Conservation Corp for one year, and entered the U.S. Army in 1934. He was trained as an infantry man at Fort Lincoln. That was the first of many stops throughout the world, including an Easter Sunday landing on the beach of Okinawa in 1944. On Oct. 25, 1945, he married Lena Hulm of Hague at Minneapolis. While stationed in Fort Carson, Colo., he was assigned to an unusual duty. He helped make the movie ``Target Zero" in which Richard Conte played the lead role. He was in charge of organizing 300 troops who performed in the movie and also did some stand-in work for Conte. He ended up with two small parts in the finished film. In 1959, at Fort Campbell, Ky., he was given his final promotion by General Westmoreland. He had achieved Sargeant Major, the highest rank an uncommissioned officer can obtain. Joe's last years in the service were spent in Ogden, Utah, where he and two assistants trained four companies of reserves. He retired in 1976 and settled at Strasburg.

He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, and served as commander of Strasburg VFW. Joseph served on Strasburg City Council for several years. Joseph loved to play the piano and dance. He played for the residents of the Strasburg Nursing Home frequently.

He is survived by his wife, Lena; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lena Marie and Tony Barlow, and Kathryn and Dennis Fowler, all of Bothel, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Edmund and Bridget, Shakopee, Minn.; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Regina Huber, Watertown, Minn., Barbara Urban, St. Paul, Minn., Kathryn and Willie Barr, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Rose and John Teter, Deepwater, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Mosser, St. Paul, and Margaret Mosser, Prior Lake, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Leonard Barthol, Sun City, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert; four brothers and two sisters.

Norma Winckler

NEW SALEM -- Norma Winckler, 69, New Salem, died Jan. 27, 1997, in New Salem. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MST Thursday at Evangelical Congregational Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in Glen Ullin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will begin at 6 p.m. MST Wednesday at the funeral home.

Norma Lennick was born July 8, 1927, at Bluegrass, to Peter and Bertha (Kraft) Lennick. She was raised and educated in the Bluegrass area. She helped on the family farm until her marriage to Albert Winckler, Nov. 2, 1949. They farmed and raised their family.

Norma enjoyed quilting and embroidery and was a fantastic cook. Her grandchildren were very special to her. She was involved with the Ladies Aid and was a Sunday school teacher at the Evangelical Congregational Church in Glen Ullin. On Nov. 2, 1989, they moved into New Salem and retired. Norma entered the Elm Crest Manor in 1993.

She is survived by her husband, Albert; one son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Mary, Beulah; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jerome Kitzmann, New Salem; five grandchildren, Jason, Grant and Trevor Kitzmann, and Casey and LaiKyn Winckler; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Art and Shirley Lennick, Columbia Falls, Mont., and Clarence and Loretta Lennick, New Salem.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Elizabeth Heidt
Elizabeth Zeplina Heidt, 83, Napa, Calif., formerly of Bismarck, died Jan. 25, 1997, at her home. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church, Napa, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Yakima, Wash.

She is survived by two sons, Raymond, Salt Lake City, and Steve Jr., Yakima; three daughters, Amanda Edwards, Napa, Margaret Burke, Livermore, Calif., and Shirley Lins, Seattle; and one sister, Rachel Rath, Bismarck. (Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, Napa)

Clara Svendsen
UNDERWOOD -- Clara Svendsen, 89, Underwood, formerly of Tuttle and Washburn, died Jan. 27, 1997, in the Underwood nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, with the Rev. John Norby officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Clara Riskedahl was born Sept. 18, 1907, at Tuttle, to John and Mina (Tuntland) Riskedahl. She grew up near Tuttle on her parents farm six miles northeast of Tuttle. She attended rural school and high school in Tuttle. She moved to Chicago in 1934 where she did domestic work in homes. She married Arne Svendsen, Nov. 30, 1939, at Tuttle. They lived in Chicago until 1946 when they moved to Tuttle to farm the Riskedahl homestead. They retired from farming in 1969 and spent their winter months in Apache Junction, Ariz. Arne died Sept. 13, 1990. She made her home with her sisters in Washburn and Minot until becoming a resident of Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood on Jan. 11, 1996.

She was a member of Sons of Norway and English Lutheran Church at Tuttle, where she was an active member of the church women. She was a past member of the Homemakers Club and enjoyed cooking and baking.

She is survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen McCormack, Minot, Judy Borlaug, Washburn, and Verna and Leo Pfiefle, Washburn; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Erna Riskedahl, Bismarck, and Emma Riskedahl, Tuttle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant son; three brothers; and one sister.

Peggy Otto
Peggy Jo Otto, 41, Lemmon, S.D., died Jan. 25, 1997, in the Lemmon hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Open Bible Standard Church, Midland, S.D., with burial in Midland Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; one son, Devin, Lemmon; her mother, Bonnie Abel, Midland; and two sisters, Frieda Hull, Mesa, Ariz., and Nancy Mullins, Lemmon. (Rush Funeral Home, Philip, S.D.)

Jack Hropko
DICKINSON -- Jack Hropko, 90, Hillsboro, Ore., died Jan. 22, 1997, in Oregon. Services will be at 4 p.m. MST Tuesday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with burial in Dickinson Cemetery.

He is survived by two brothers, Leo, Jamestown, and Oswald, Hillsboro, Ore.; and three sisters, Julia Sullivano, Battleground, Wash., Josephine Merck, Hillsboro, Ore., and Angeline Truchan, Killdeer.

Mary Laschkewitsch
Mary Margaret Laschkewitsch, 57, Midland, Texas, formerly of Bismarck, died Jan. 18, 1997, at her home. Memorial services will be in Bismarck this summer.

She is survived by her husband, John; three sons, John, Fayetteville, N.C., Ben, Midland, and Scott, Radford, Va.; one daughter, Sheri Patterson, Anthony, Kan.; and two brothers, Vernon Morris, Bismarck, and Gray Morris, Shattuck, Okla. (Pipkin Funeral Home, Midland)

Parker Fettig
Parker Fettig, the infant son of Catherine and Douglas Fettig, Tualatin, Ore., died Jan. 22, 1997, in Portland, Ore. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Portland.

He is survived by his parents; one brother, Pierce; and his grandparents, Catherine Calder, Colorado Springs, Colo., John Calder, Sun City, Ariz., and Matt and Agnes Fettig, Bismarck. (Young's Funeral Home, Portland)

Mable Dodd
WILLISTON -- Mable Dodd, 95, Williston, died Jan. 26, 1997, in the Williston nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Home, Williston. Further arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston.

Esther Link
BEULAH -- Esther K. Link, 75, Beulah, died Jan. 27, 1997, at her home of natural causes. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Reinhold Markwart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Thursday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Esther was born Dec. 15, 1921, near Golden Valley, a daughter of Jacob and Emma (Hintz) Lindeman. She was raised and educated in a rural school there. On Oct. 21, 1945, she married Reinhold Link at Golden Valley. They lived in Beulah, and Esther worked at the Jochim Memorial Home for a number of years. Esther and Reine loved to be able to get together with family and friends for a good game of pinochle. Esther enjoyed baking, especially kuchen, and also enjoyed helping Reine in the garden.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, and had been active in the ladies organization there. Esther was also a member of Beulah Senior Citizens and Beulah Eagles Auxiliary, with whom she had served as a trustee.

She is survived by her husband, Reine; a resident of Knife River Care Center, Beulah; one daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Douglas Wick, Bismarck; one son, Bob, Bismarck; one grandson, Scott Wick, Bismarck; five sisters and one brother-in-law, Florence Frank, Post Falls, Idaho, Ruth Traxel, Kent, Wash., Louise and Edgar Wiedenmeyer, Spearfish, S.D., Doris Lindeman, Seattle, and Shirley Presser, Kent; one brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Bernice Lindeman, Sundance, Wyo.; one sister-in-law, Elsie (Lindeman) Wiedenmeyer, Hazen; numerous nieces and nephews; and her many special relatives and friends.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; two brother, George and Jacob Jr.; and one sister, Erma.

The family prefers memorials to Zion Lutheran Church Pew Bible Fund or Knife River Care Center Alzheimer's Unit.

David Mosbrucker
David Mosbrucker, 36, formerly of Mandan, died of asthma related complications in a Deltona, Fla., hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan.

A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

David graduated from Mandan High School in 1980 and attended Bismarck State College for two years. In 1986 he moved to Florida where he owned and operated an adult living facility for the elderly.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Church and the Eagles Club in Deltona.

He is survived by his wife, Ava; one daughter, Nichole Mosbrucker, Mandan; one son, Colton Schmitz, Orlando, Fla.; his parents, Kenneth and Rosalee Mosbrucker, Mandan; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dean, and Brian and Stacey, all of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Calvin and Lois, Riverton, Wyo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Lorie and John Makelke, Dallas; three nephews and nieces, Damian, Shane and Heidi Mosbrucker; his grandmother, Catherine Erhardt, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Martin and Eva Mosbrucker, and Joe Erhardt.

The family prefers memorials to American Lung Association.

Douglas Handtmann
Douglas F. Handtmann, 66, 606 Snyder, Glendive, Mont., died Jan. 19, 1997, in the Glendive hospital. At Doug's request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

He was born March 25, 1930, in Breckenridge, Minn., the son of Joseph and Monica (Schweigert) Handtmann. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1948. He attended North Dakota State School of Science at Wahpeton. After his schooling he joined the U.S. Army. After his discharge he went to work for Northern Pacific Railroad in Mandan. He came to Glendive in 1971. Doug married Peggy Crachy, Aug. 7, 1972, in Buffalo, S.D. They lived in Glendive where Doug was an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1992.

Doug belonged to American Legion, Glendive Moose and Glendive Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, cards, woodworking and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Mark and his friend, Sheila, Mandan, Jody and Angie, Jim and Tom, all of Minneapolis, and Scott and DeeDee, Bismarck; one daughter, RaeAnn Handtmann, Mandan; two brothers-in-law, Doug Crachy and his family, Helena, Mont., and Curtis Crachy and his family, Great Falls, Mont.; and five grandchildren.

Mary Freih
EDGELEY -- Mary Freih, 91, Edgeley, died Jan. 26, 1997, in the Edgeley nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Edgeley, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley.

She is survived by one son, Garfield, Bismarck; one daughter, Violet Breimon, Guttenberg, Iowa; and one sister, Anna Madcke, Edgeley. (Lisko Chapel, Edgeley)

Arline Dilger
Arline M. Dilger, 59, 3725 Montreal St., died Jan. 27, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Laura Ming
DICKINSON -- Laura Ming, 100, Dickinson, died Jan. 28, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at Pierce Congregational Church, Scranton. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Edgar Ketterling
Edgar Vernon Ketterling, 70, Hayward, Calif., formerly of Carson, died of cancer, Jan. 16, 1997, at his home. Services were held Jan. 21 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hayward, Calif.

He is survived by his wife, Rozetta; and one brother, Willy, Larimore.

Jacob Vavra
STANTON -- Jacob Vavra, 85, Stanton, died Jan. 28, 1997, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.
