Irene Reiemers
Irene Reimers, 84, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, formerly of Skyway Park Village, Bismarck, died July 21, 1996, after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Stenslie officiating. Burial will be in Birka Cemetery, Washburn.

Irene was born May 13, 1912. She was raised in the rural Washburn area known as Elm Point, across the Missouri River from Stanton. Her parents were Louis and Hattie (Ecklund) Larson. She attended country schools and was a member of Birka Lutheran Church.

The widow of Godtfred Reimers, Irene grew up on the same farm where the couple spent most of their married life and raised four children, Donna Bloomquist, Noreen Lavyrl Woolworth, Patricia Reimers and Harvey. They also helped raise six or more foster children, including Roger Owens, who died three weeks ago, and Charles Christman.

Irene was a 4-H leader and family historian. Over a 30-year period she hand wrote more than 7,000 pages relating genealogical data, family history and stories based on the lives and times of her ancestors. Irene received recognition for one of those stores, which was the winner of St. Alexius's Senior Citizen Writing Competition in 1987.

Irene is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Bruce Bloomquist, Sedona, Ariz., Noreen Lavyrl and Gerald Woolworth, Baton Rouge, La., and Patricia Reimers, Chicago; one brother, Walter Larson, Paducah, Ky.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Harvey; three, Rose, Lulah Carvell, and Adeline Kost; and three brothers, Clarence, David and Chester.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Alexius Hospice, American Cancer Society or Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Michael Wanner
DICKINSON -- Michael Wanner, 73, Dickinson, died July 22, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie; two daughters, Mary Bender, Mandan, and Charlotte Jones, Littleton, Colo.; two sons, David, Englewood, Colo., and Robert, Dickinson; four brothers, Nick, Colorado Springs, Colo., Frank and John, both of Dickinson, and Jack, Yakima, Wash.; and two sisters, Ann Fox, Spokane, Wash., and Sally Metz, Dickinson. Otillia Kruger
Otillia Kruger, 88, 1711 N. Eighth St., died July 22, 1996, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Boelter Funeral Home.

Joseph Arcand
EPPING -- Joseph Arcand, 86, Epping, died July 22, 1996, in the Tioga hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery, both in Williston.

He is survived by his wife, Eva; one daughter, Joetta Hart, Indio, Calif.; two sons, Bernard, Ray, and Randal, Williston; and four sisters, Theresa Bjella, Williston, Sister Mary Noreen, Portland, Ore., Sister Emma Marie, Rolla, and Sister Bernard Joseph, Maryvale, Valley City. Samuel Henderscheid
CENTER -- Samuel Henderscheid Jr., 74, Center, died July 21, 1996, in an Underwood nursing home. Private family services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending.

John Steiner
BELFIELD -- John Steiner, 41, Belfield, died July 22, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Thursday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Belfield, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Steiner, Belfield; four brothers, Bruce, Dickinson, Patrick, Kurtis, and Gerard, all of Belfield; and two sisters, Karla Price, Williston, and Jaculyn Tomchuk, Fargo. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Edwin Arndt
HARVEY -- Edwin Arndt, 57, Harvey, died July 22, 1996, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

GOODRICH -- Norman Wagner, 70, Goodrich, died July 23, 1996, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Robert Eagle Staff
FORT YATES -- Robert Bruce Eagle Staff, 43, Seattle, formerly of Fort Yates, died July 19, 1996, in an Enterprise, Ore. hospital. Services will be held at 10 am. MDT Friday at Eagle Butte High School Auditorium, with burial in Dupree Cemetery.

He is survived by two daughters, Stacey Gayton, Fort Yates, and Robin Eagle Staff, Seattle; one son, Louis, Seattle; his mother, Marguerite Eagle Staff, Eagle Butte, S.D.; three brothers, Tom, Aberdeen, S.D., Bill, Eagle Butte, and Darrell, Fort Yates; and two sisters, Donna Eagle Staff-Jetty, St. Michael, and Suzanne Eagle Staff, Fort Yates. Martha Riegel
BEULAH -- Martha Riegel, 85, Beulah, died July 22, 1996, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Halliday. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Martha Schatz
HAZELTON -- Martha Schatz, 88, Hazelton, died July 23, 1996, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hazelton. Further arrangements are pending at Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Perry Krein
DICKINSON -- Perry Krein, 41, Dickinson, died July 23, 1996, in his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Friday at First Baptist Church, Hebron. Further arrangements are pending at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron.

Sylvia Svihla
Sylvia Svihla, 89, Mandan, died July 22, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, south of Mandan.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Sylvia was born Feb. 5, 1907, at Ross, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Shindler) Bures. She was raised in the area and attended rural school. Following her marriage to Louis Svihla, Aug. 10, 1927, in Stanley, they farmed south of Mandan until 1966. They continued to live on the farm until Louis died Sept. 4, 1972. She moved to Mandan where she did baby-sitting.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Bohemian Lodge.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Kottsick, Mandan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ervin and Sandy, St. Anthony, Jim and Ernestine, and Elgie and Rosalie, all of Mandan; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Rose White, Mandan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Lewis, Leonard and Victor; and two sisters, Stacey and Agnes.

Minnie Schafer
Minnie B. Schafer, 85, Mandan, died July 21, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in St. Lawrence Church Cemetery, Flasher.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. today. A Rosary Society rosary will be said at 7 tonight, followed by a rosary at 7:30 and a parish vigil at 8, all at the funeral home.

Minnie Roll was born July 20, 1911, at New Salem, the daughter of Joseph and Emilia (Erhardt) Roll. Minnie attended school at Glen Ullin through the eighth grade, at which time the family moved to Flasher. She married Jerome Schafer, Oct. 8, 1929, at Fallon. They farmed and worked around the Fallon and Flasher community until moving to Mandan 1967.

She is survived by eight sons and five daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Sharon, Savanna, Ill., Matt, and Ben and Linda, all of Wilton, Herman and Shirley, and Gordon, all of Mandan, Leonard, Ely, Nev., Arnie and Marilyn, Jamestown, and DuWayne and Gladeen, Bismarck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Edwin Smith, Bismarck, Delores and James Cain, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Shirley and Ken Reed, Mandan; 39 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John, Aurora, Colo., and Florian, Fargo; and five sisters, Margaret Conner and Bertha Erhardt, both of Mandan, Monica Topping, Tacoma, Wash., and Pauline Erhardt and Lucy Ressler, both of Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome, who died in 1970; her parents; two sons, Daniel and Leo; one daughter-in-law, Diane; two brothers, Matt and Frank; and two sisters, Eva Tobiason and Ida Ferderer.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Leukemia Foundation.

Sam Kenny
Sam Kenny, 104, Bismarck, died July 23, 1996, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Stenslie officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the chapel one hour before services.

Sam was born May 24, 1892, at Urbana, Iowa, to George and Ann Kenny. He was raised and educated near Urbana, finishing the eighth grade. He moved to North Dakota in the spring of 1907, when his parents bought land south of Berlin. As a young man, he worked for the Chicago Ranch and later farmed near Montpelier for 14 years before moving to Jamestown. He worked for Peterson and Biddick, a produce company until 1938, when a store was opened in Steele, which he managed. Sam bought the store in 1938, and it was known as Kenny's Produce. He operated the store until August 1950, when he moved to Bismarck. He then worked for his son, Merle, who built homes in the Bismarck area until his retirement in 1962. He married Leona Ihme in 1919, in Jamestown. She died in 1988. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Margaret Marie and Rosemary Lang.

Sam loved to raise flowers and cared for flower gardens at Holiday Inn for several years.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Merle and Rose Marie, Bismarck, and Donald and Burnelle, Shady Cove, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.

Frank Jorda Sr.
MOTT -- Frank R. Jorda Sr., 79, Mott, died March 14, 1997, in the Hettinger hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MST Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Mott, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Frank Jr., Big Timber, Mont., Bernard, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Thomas, Dickinson; four daughters, Margaret Mezey, Los Angeles, Elizabeth McCullough, Guatamala, Kathleen Jorda, Morena Valley, Calif., and Joan Crooks, Post Falls, Idaho; and two brothers, Markus and Joe, both of Lefor. Don Little
Donald Little, 84, 1110 Mandan St., died March 14, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Ellen Libby

Rochus Hager Sr.
HARVEY -- Rochus Hager Sr., 82, Harvey, died March 13, 1997, in the Harvey hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Selz, with burial in St. Cecelia's Cemetery, Harvey.

He is survived by two sons, Rochus Jr., Balta, and Hilary, Cheyenne, Wyo.; two daughters, Rose Mary Schell, Minot, and Ramona Schaan, Elk Grove, Calif.; and two brothers, Andrew, Balta, and Pius, Sacramento, Calif. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Ellen Hofer
LEMMON, S.D. -- Ellen B. Hofer, 87, Lemmon, died March 12, 1997. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Sunday at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lemmon, with burial in Greenhill Cemetery, Lemmon.

She is survived by one son, J. Michael, Everett, Wash.; one daughter, Betty, Nashville, Tenn.; and two sisters, Violet Linn, Dupree, S.D., and Wanda Schoenfeld, Everett. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon)

Lynn Larson
WATFORD CITY -- Lynn H. Larson, 80, Watford City, died March 12, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Keene First Lutheran Church, with burial in Good Hope Cemetery.

He is survived by two sisters, Jeanette Rolfson, Watford City, and Delores Gilchrist, Glasgow, Mont. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)

Mina Otis
Mina I. Otis, 92, 1000 W. Highland Acres Road, died March 14, 1997, in her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Mark Bayert officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Mina I. Havekorst was born May 22, 1904, in Herkimer, Kan., the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Theel) Havekorst. She was raised and educated in Holton, Kan. She came to North Dakota in 1929, where she was a little boys' matron in a boarding school in Fort Yates. Mina married Forest Otis, Oct. 7, 1931, in Fort Yates. They lived in Fort Yates until moving to Cannon Ball in 1934. Mina and Forest owned and operated the Otis Store for 30 years. They sold the store and moved to Bismarck in 1965. Mina and Forest were fortunate enough to be able to live as neighbors with their daughter and her family for 35 years. During the winter months, Mina and Forest enjoyed traveling in their Airstream trailer.

Mina enjoyed entertaining her family, by cooking, baking, and just having fun. She also enjoyed spending time with her six great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Forest; two grandsons, Robert Maier and his wife, Mary, and David Maier and his wife, Geraldine, all of Bismarck; one granddaughter, Lyn Keller and her husband, Lindsay, Atlanta; six great-grandchildren, Michael and Melissa Maier, Jason and Joel Maier, all of Bismarck, and Emily and Kurt Keller, Atlanta; one son-in-law, Del Maier and his wife, Eleanor, Harlingen, Texas; three sisters, Harriet Hannes, Albany, Wis., Alma Havekorst, Lees Summit, Mo., and Ella Bareiss, Holton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Marilyn Maier; one brother; and one sister.
