Erwin Redmann
Erwin Redmann, 75, Mandan, died March 13, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and at 2 p.m. MST Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Chapel, New Salem. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Mandan, and will continue at the chapel one hour before services.

Erwin was born July 28, 1921, at Blue Grass, the son of Henry E. and Katie (Bickel) Redmann. He attended rural schools in Morton and Oliver counties, and graduated from New Salem High School in 1940. He served with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers during World War II from September 1942 to November 1945. He spent much of that time in the Aleutian Islands. He worked for the ASCS after his discharge and had been a resident of Mandan since 1965. He retired in 1978.

He was a life member of Bismarck Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Mandan American Legion. He found great enjoyment in visiting the sales ring in Mandan, and having coffee with old friends.

He is survived by his sister, Alice Redmann, Bismarck; special cousins, Violet Chase, Lucille Albers, LaVerne Bickel, and Edward Scheck and his wife, Margaret; and special friends, Bill Backsen, Cleo Moore, Ed Bickel and Larry Colebank.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant brother, Oscar.

Elizabeth Clark
Elizabeth Clark, 79, 418 River Road, died March 13, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas Kramer officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bismarck Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour before services.

Elizabeth Judith Daschle was born Nov. 13, 1917, at Napoleon, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Daschle. They operated a grocery store in Selfridge. Elizabeth grew up in Napoleon and Selfridge, and graduated from Selfridge High School. She later attended Capitol Commercial College in Bismarck. She married Robert Clark, July 18, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo. After World War II they lived in Regent and New England, where Robert worked for the Milwaukee Railroad. During this time, Liz worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a relief depot agent. Later she worked a number of positions at both the Citizens State Bank in New England and American State Bank, Dickinson. In 1968 the couple moved to Bismarck where she worked for the Dakota National Bank and in the dairy division at the state Capitol.

Since the time of her retirement, Liz has been a member and past president of St. Alexius Medical Center Auxiliary and has been enthusiastically involved with volunteer work at St. Alexius. She was a member of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit.

Liz was a pioneering personality and her unusual perspective enabled her to experience and accomplish many things not usually associated with women of her generation. She will be remembered and cherished by her family as an individual of uncommon faith, vitality and commitment to the well being of others. She also had a way with plants and was known to extend her generosity to the support of an occasional casino.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Roger Haug, and Libby and Frank Kilzer, all of Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Sue, Bismarck, and Tracy and Marilyn, Great Falls, Mont.; two sisters, Julianne Belzer, Cando, and Boogie Johnson, Carlsbad, Calif.; two brothers, Stan, Hemet, Calif., and Val, San Diego; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Central High School, Bismarck.

Pui Shiu
Pui Lan "Mama" Shiu, 77, 3000 N. Fourth St., died March 12, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will begin one hour before services.

Leona Reuer
Leona Reuer, 51, 419 Lansing Lane, died March 14, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Lee Sundquist
Lee A. Sundquist, 79, 2113 E. Hannaford Ave., died March 12, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sunne Lutheran Church, Wilton, with the Rev. Paul Schauer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 9 Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Lee was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Ghylin Township, the son of Walter and Edith Sundquist. Lee was raised and educated in Grass Lake Township. He married Frances Backman, Sept. 2, 1944, at Sunne Lutheran Church. After their marriage, they moved to a farm south of Regan, where they raised six children. Frances died Feb. 7, 1968. Lee later married Mildred Backman, Jan. 3, 1970. After their marriage, Lee continued farming, while living in Bismarck.

Lee was a member of the Eagles Club. He served on the Trygg Township School Board, the Regan Elevator Board, and the Church Board at Sunne Lutheran Church.

Lee loved to travel, spend time at the lake, and was very devoted to farming. He especially loved his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Carol Sundquist, Bismarck, Dan and Verna Sundquist, San Diego, Calif, and Marc and Esther Sundquist, Baldwin; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary and Dan Chin, Elgin, Ill., and Lois Sundquist, Aurora, Colo.; two stepsons, Bill and Peg Backman, Bismarck, and Rod and Karen Backman, Bismarck; three stepdaughters, Jean Renner, Bismarck, Colleen and Kevin Patrick, Wilton, and Ronda and Terry Berg, Bismarck; one sister, LeOma Sterioti, Bismarck; 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three nieces; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edith; his first wife, Frances; and two sons, David and Paul.

Olene Backen
MADDOCK -- Olene Backen, 84, Maddock, died Nov. 21, 1996, in her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Klara Lutheran Church, rural Maddock, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Lori Backen, Maddock; and one brother, Oscar Eidsness, Devils Lake. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Lester Reb
BEULAH -- Lester Reb, 63, Beulah, died Nov. 21, 1996, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah, with burial in Buchmann Cemetery, rural Beulah.

He is survived by his wife, Della; his father, Herman, Beulah; one brother, Richard, Beulah; and four sisters, Margie Martin, Mott, Violet Opp, Jamestown, Delma Renner, Zap, and Doris Corey, Bottineau. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Lillian Nayes
Lillian A. Nayes, 70, 1026 Highland Place, died Nov. 23, 1996, at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Dorothy Schlosser
EDGELEY -- Dorothy Schlosser, 75, Edgeley, died Nov. 21, 1996, in the Oakes nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Catholic Church of the Configuration, Edgeley, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Edgeley.

She is survived by her husband, Casimer; one son, Terry, Camano Island, Wash.; two daughters, Mary Jean Whitmore, Buckley, Wash., and Connie Benson, Benton City, Wash.; three brothers, Valentine, Edgeley, Andy, Linton, and Joe, Chehalis, Wash.; and six sisters, Sister Veronica Schlosser and Catherine Meyers, both of St. Paul, Minn., Sister Alice Schlosser, New Prague, Minn., Maggie Remein and Monica Podalak, both of Enumclaw, Wash., and Chris Larson, Oakes. Pearl Erickson
Pearl L. Erickson, 84, 2710 Gateway Ave., died Nov. 22, 1996, in her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ron Gladen officiating. Burial will be in Augustana Cemetery, rural Sheyenne.

Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Pearl was born Aug. 28, 1912, in Sheyenne. She attended rural schools in Grandfield Township, and high school in Sheyenne. She attended college in Superior, Wis., and the Capital Commercial College in Bismarck. After completing a business course she worked for Ace Hardware in Bismarck and Jamestown. She was also employed at the State Capitol in the vehicle license and title division. In 1947 she became employed with Civil Service, first with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, then with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

On June 30, 1973, she retired after 26 years with Civil Service. She then volunteered many hours with Medcenter One. Pearl was baptized and confirmed in Augustana Lutheran Church. She belonged to First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, and was very active there. She taught Sunday school for several years.

She is survived by two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Roy Erickson, Bismarck, Lawrence and Helen Erickson, Bismarck, and Gladys Erickson, Fargo, and Ethel Erickson, Salt Lake City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, C. Leonard Erickson, E. Arnold Erickson, Harold O. Erickson, and Stanley N. Erickson.

Pearl enjoyed life. She loved to spend time with her family and her many friends. Pearl especially enjoyed birdwatching with her young nieces and nephews. Her grandnieces and grandnephews were very dear to her heart. She was an awesome aunt.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

Anton Leiss
GLADSTONE -- Anton Leiss, 81, Gladstone, died Nov. 23, 1996. Arrangements are pending at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Ernest Young
JAMESTOWN -- Ernest W. Young, 86, Jamestown, died Nov. 22, 1996, in the Jamestown nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Robert C., Hulberton, N.Y., Ernest W. Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo., Robert E., Oklahoma City, Okla., and Ernest D., Oregon; two daughters, Shirley Roemmich, Steele, and Patricia Carman, Bismarck; one brother, Albert, Rock Island, Ill.; and two sisters, Daisy and George Swartzbaugh, Marietta, Ill., and Mary Chasteen, Carmeron, Ill. Rachel Fuhrman
Rachel Fuhrman, 86, Glen Ullin, died Nov. 22, 1996, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of God, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan.

Ella Berg
Ella Laib Berg, 70, Kalispell, Mont., died of cancer Nov. 18, 1996. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Johnson Mortuary Chapel, Kalispell, with burial in Glacier Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; one son, Gary, Miles City, Mont.; one daughter, Cynthia Klingsolver, Kalispell; and two brothers, Edwin Laib and Arthur Laib, both of Bismarck.

Alf Johnson
Alf E. Johnson, 91, Bismarck, died Nov. 22, 1996. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alf was born Oct. 8, 1905, to Louis and Hannah (Backman) Johnson in Wilton. On Dec. 19, 1934, he was married to Ruth Wilmot in Bismarck. They farmed in the Regan area and Alf also managed the coal mines in the Wilton area. In the later years he was the custodian at the state Capitol. After retirement, he and Ruth would spend their winter months in Texas.

Alf is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; one daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Paul Sprynczynatyk, Bismarck; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Virgil and Susan, and Keith, all of Texas; five grandchildren, Brenda, Rodney, Susie, Larry and Clinton; two great-grandchildren, Brynn and Brent; four sisters, Edna McAnaw, California, Wilma Niebauer, Washington, Lorraine Powell, Washington, and Irene Anderson, Wilton; and five brothers, Arvid Johnson, Wilton, Edwin Johnson, California, Rudolph Speten, Wilton, Orville Speten, Wilton, and Henry Speten, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one brother.

Peter Doll
Peter N. Doll, 96, 911 Fourth Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Nov. 22, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan. Further arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Della Henke
NEW SALEM -- Della Henke, 77, New Salem, died Nov. 23, 1996, in the New Salem nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Wednesday at Peace Church, New Salem, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Della Holle was born Sept. 20, 1919, at New Salem, the daughter of George and Louisa (Zarndt) Holle. She was raised and educated in the area and graduated from New Salem High School in 1937. She obtained her teaching certificate from Dickinson State Teachers College and taught in rural Morton and Oliver county schools. She married Donald Wilkins, Sept. 12, 1941. He died Oct. 7, 1951. She married Walter Henke, Oct. 2, 1956.

Della enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends. She also liked to quilt and embroider. She worked for a number of years at Elm Crest Nursing Home as a nurses aide. She was an active member of the Peace Church, serving with the Ladies Aid and teaching Sunday school.

She will be missed by those who survive her, including her husband, Walter; two daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Andrew Brunen, and LaDonna and Keith Olson, all of New Salem; one son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Renell Henke, New Salem; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Roswell and Mary Henke, and Leon and Twila Henke, all of Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, Becky Henke, Lisa Ponzer, Heather and Angie Schwarting, David and Mark McCowan, Steven and Scott Henke, Shawn Olson, Ashley Henke and Karson Henke; three great-grandchildren, Talus McCowan, Luke McCowan and Taren Henke; one sister, Selma Bauer; a special cousin and friend, Frances Schultz; and all her friends at Elm Crest Manor.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald; one infant daughter; one sister, Elma Heinle; and one son-in-law, Clark Schwarting.

Bryan Young Bird
NEW TOWN -- Bryan A. Young Bird, 54, New Town, died Nov. 23, 1996, in New Town. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mandaree High School. Further arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Vicky Olson
Vicky (Schlittenhardt) Olson, 34, Palatine, Ill., formerly of Valley City, died Nov. 23, 1996, in a Chicago hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Epworth United Methodist Church, Valley City.

She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey; one son, Christopher, at home; her parents, George and Alyce Schlittenhardt, Valley City; three sisters, Connie Retterath, Valley City, Darcy Beilke, Buffalo, and Kelly Pederson, Valley City; one brother, Jeffrey, Valley City; and her grandmother, Emma Schlittenhardt, Bismarck.
