Sister Bartholomew Barth
Sister Bartholomew Barth, 85, a founding member of the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Priory, died Nov. 23, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Annunciation Priory Chapel.

A wake is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. today at the priory, and continues until the time of the funeral.

Sister Bartholomew, a Benedictine for 61 years, loved her God and had a strong commitment to her community and family. She was honest and direct with others, putting their needs before her own. A housekeeper for 48 years, Sister Bartholomew valued doing the best she could and made sure areas in her care were neat and orderly. She continued to work until a week before her death.

Theresa Barth was born Dec. 26, 1910, the fifth of 10 children of John and Celestine Barth. She grew up on a farm near Almont, and entered in 1933 St. Benedict's Convent in St. Joseph, Minn. She made her monastic profession, July 11, 1935.

Her first assignment as a Benedictine was to St. Joseph's Convent in Dickinson. She also did housekeeping in convents in Mott, Mandan and Bismarck, at St. Alexius Medical Center, and served at the University of Mary from 1969-1981. She cared for the elderly for 13 years at St. Benedict's Home in Dickinson.

She is survived by two brothers, Leo, Mandan, and Harry, Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Elizabeth Frenzel, Dickinson, and Tillie Ramelow, Spokane; and the Benedictines of Annunciation Priory. (Boelter Funeral Home)

Peter Doll
Peter N. Doll, 96, 911 Fourth Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Nov. 22, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30.

Peter was born May 1, 1900, in Odessa, Russia, the son of Nicodemus and Barbara (Helbling). He came to America in 1902 with his parents, settling south of Glen Ullin, where he was raised and educated. He married Rosa Ferderer, July 13, 1925, in Crown Butte. They farmed in the St. Joe and Almont areas until 1966, when he moved to Mandan.

He is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law, Daniel and Marlene, Corvallis, Ore., and Wilma Beckman, Mott; seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Ann Doll, Mandan, Pauline and Charles Holkup, Veronica and John Oberst, Florence and John Bjorke, all of Bismarck, Josephine and Ron Neussenderfor, Anaconda, Mont., Mary and Ron Wandler, Rochester, Minn., and Rose and Jim Kraft, Devils Lake; 38 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nick, Glen Ullin, and John, Seattle, Waash.; and two sisters, Mary Erhardt, Glen Ullin, and Bertha Doll, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosa, who died in 1990; two sons, William and John; four brothers, Joe, Roy, Leo and Martin; and three sisters, Pauline Barth, Magdalin Morrell and Ann Doll.

Peter loved horses and took great joy in his collection of wooden horses and photos. He also enjoyed carpentry work.

Rachel Fuhrman
Rachel Fuhrman, 86, 1119 S. University Drive, died Nov. 22, 1996, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Parkview Bible Church of God, 1550 Wichita Drive, with the Rev. Gordon Brown officiating. Burial will be in Emmanuel Baptist Cemetery, Beulah.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue after 1:30 p.m. MST Wednesday at Church of God, Beulah, prior to the committal service.

Rachel M. Boeckel was born Nov. 18. 1910, in Mercer County to Peter and Louise (Mohl) Boeckel. She was raised and educated in Mercer County near Beulah. She married Jacob Fuhrman, Feb. 26, 1930, in Beulah. They lived in Beulah until 1951 when they moved to Bismarck. She worked at the Bismarck Hospital for 16 years until retiring in 1972.

She was a member of the Church of God in Bismarck. Jacob died June 24, 1994.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Melvin Lagge, Rio Linda, Calif., and Marian and Ernest Scheck, Bismarck; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Betty, Bismarck, Darrell, Bismarck, and Wayne and Cora, Junction City, Ore.; five sisters, Lorraine Pfenning, Lenora Schulz and Bernice Pfenning, all of Beulah, Loretta Teske, Kent, Wash., and Virginia Ouzts, Edgefield, S.C.; two brothers, Harold, Edmonds, Wash., and Robert, Bismarck; 26 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Lillian Nayes
Lillian A. Nayes, 70, 1026 Highland Place, died Nov. 23, 1996, at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Lillian Alvera Nydahl was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Fargo, the daughter of Julia (Nelson) and Olai Anton Nydahl. Her mother died in 1985, after spending retirement years in the Baptist Home Apartments and later in the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Her father died in 1931, at the age of 40. He came to America in 1910, with four brothers, all carpenters. A sister, Joan Nayes, was born April 1930 and is the only surviving sibling.

Lillian was raised in Fargo and after high school attended North Dakota State University. She graduated with honors in home economics education. She taught in Devils Lake, Casselton, McClusky and at Simle Junior High in Bismarck. She began as a teacher trainer for North Dakota State University her first year, and had 30 student teachers at these locations. Her professional career ended in 1974 as assistant school food service director for North Dakota, because of health problems.

She married LeRoy M. Nayes, June 19, 1949, when both were teaching in Casselton. Lillian was a perfectionist in her academic work and homemaking skills. Although she couldn't continue teaching, she did much hardanger, knitting, cross-stitching and sewing for herself and others. A highlight of her life was to visit uncles and cousins in Norway in 1979. After that visit, she made bunad costumes for herself and her husband.

She was active in Sons of Norway in many ways, and won many awards for entries in hardanger and knitting. Lillian also was active in Trinity Lutheran Church, where she and her husband have been members since 1962. She has left some of her handwork there for altar and paraments. A trust fund will be established in her name to maintain and purchase altar and chancel furnishings. Memorials are requested for that trust fund.

She is survived by her husband, LeRoy; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Paul Brown, Bloomington, Ind.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence ``Larry" and Carol, Miles City, Mont., and Lee and Lynn, Lunenburg, Mass.; five grandchildren, Lisa, Tracy and Laura Nayes, all of Miles City, and Andrew and Jordan Brown, Bloomington; one sister and brother-in-law, Joan and James Nayes, Jamestown; and five nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Elmer Schulz
Elmer R. Schulz, 74, Mandan, died Nov. 25, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. John Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue after 9 a.m. Friday.

Elmer was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Minneapolis, where he was raised and educated. He was the son of Arthur and Ella (Heruth) Schulz. He married Beatrice Stein, Jan. 6, 1945, in Williamsburg, Va. They moved to Mandan in 1958. He was a salesman for Globe Inc. for 35 years. He retired in 1984. Elmer served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1947. He was a member of American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; seven sons and three daughters-in-law, Stephen and Pam, St. Paul, Minn., Thomas, Bismarck, James, Tempe, Ariz., David and Lori, Mandan, Robert and his friend, Melodie Kourajian, Bismarck, Ted and Becky Plummer, Idaho, and Charles and his friend, Jackie Glasser, Fargo; three daughters and one son-in-law, Jean Schulz, Mandan, Jacqueline and Steven Smith, Shadyside, Md., and Julie Schulz and her friend, Bill Lynde, Tempe; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Ella Schulz, Robbinsdale, Minn.; and one brother, Duane, Robbinsdale.

He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Dale.

Elmer was a pitcher for fastpitch softball and never used a glove while playing the game. He played for Foremost Dairy and Mandan Elks Softball teams. He started golfing after his retirement which gave him many relaxing hours.

Willard "Rusty" Rusch
NEW SALEM -- Willard "Rusty" Rusch, 71, New Salem, died Nov. 26, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Friday at Peace Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Richard Herb officiating. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery, New Salem.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Willard was born Jan. 15, 1925, north of New Salem, the son of Paul and Lulu (Oellerm) Rusch. He was raised in the area and attended rural schools, graduating from new Salem High School. He began his employment with Cenex in New Salem until he entered the Fourth U.S. Army, serving in the light aviation division during the Korean Conflict. When he returned to North Dakota, he married Frances Nelson in Almont, Nov. 15, 1952. He returned to Cenex and managed that operation in New Salem until his retirement. He then worked for the Farm and Ranch Guide and was still employed by Beco Trucking at the time of his death.

Rusty's passion in life was flying and he enjoyed flying his friends and family to various events. He also liked sports, especially basketball, football and playing golf. He was fond of all animals, particularly St. Bernards. He liked music, playing cards and gambling, and even dealt blackjack. Planting his garden was a special joy after his retirement. He was a member of Lions, Elks, American Legion and 40 et 8, and the Retired Cenex Managers Association. A lifetime member of Peace Church, he also served on the Morton County Housing Board.

Rusty will be deeply missed by all who survive him, including his wife, Frances; four daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Dave Turner, Las Vegas, Susan and Wayne Nelson, Fargo, Linda and Ted Hoffman, Bismarck, and J.J. and Mark McCowan, Manhattan, Kan.; three grandchildren, Talus McCowan and Ali and Jacob Hoffman; and one brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Arlene, New Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Alvin Bauch
Alvin E. Bauch, 74, Mesa, Ariz., a retired electrician, member of local 714 IBEW and six-year resident of Billings, Mont., died Nov. 25, 1996, in a Mesa hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. MST Friday at Michelotti, Sawyers and Nordquist Mortuary, Billings, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Billings.

The son of the late Henry and Rosina (Schultz) Bauch, he was born April 14, 1922, in McLean County. He was the widower of Elsie Wiest Bauch.

Alvin was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Billings.

He is survived by three sisters, Amanda Finke and Hannah Evenson, both of Eugene, Ore., and Mayta Morey, Lewiston, Idaho; four sons, Marlynn, Monroe, N.Y., James, Helena, Mont., Duane, Whitefish, Mont., and Rodney, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; three daughters, Sheryl Gonzales, Billings, Carol Davidson, Macomb, Ill., and Kay Richter, Pleasanton, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

The family prefers memorials to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or your local congregation.

Dorothy Pehl
Memorial services for Dorothy D. Pehl, 85, Golden Manor Nursing Home, Steele, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Golden Manor Nursing Home. She died Nov. 19, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. (Boelter Funeral Home)

The Rev. Jerry Wickre
The Rev. Jerry W. Wickre, 57, Fargo, died suddenly Nov. 25, 1996, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Fargo, with burial at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Hills of Rest Cemetery, Sioux Falls, S.D.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; his mother, Margaret Wickre, Sioux Falls; one son, Jay, Ogden, Utah; one daughter, Julie Wickre, Sioux Falls; and one sister, Linda Hallstrom, Sioux Falls. (Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo)

Goldie Schreiber
CARSON -- Goldie Schreiber, 95, Carson, died Nov. 25, 1996, in the Elgin hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Carson, with burial at 2 p.m. Friday at Peace Cemetery, New Salem.

She is survived by one daughter, Ramona Cofer, Carson; five sisters, Nettie Hanson, Almont, Gertie Telford, Yucca, Ariz., Adeline Backsen, New Salem, Evangeline Monson, New Brounfels, Texas, and Winona McCoy, Washington, Pa.; and one brother, Raynold Olson, Mandan. Anthony Neva
HARVEY -- Anthony G. Neva, 90, Harvey, died Nov. 23, 1996, in his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Harvey, with burial in St. Johns Catholic Cemetery, Kensal.

Casey Hill, 3, and Chance Hill, four months, 901 Third St. S.E., Mandan, died Nov. 25, 1996, at their home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Fort Yates, with the Revs. John Floberg and Virginia Luger officiating. Burial will be in Red Tomahawk Cemetery, south of Cannon Ball.

Visitation and a wake will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Fort Yates school gym. There will be a service at 7 p.m.

Casey was born Sept. 5, 1993, in Bismarck, and Chance was born July 25, 1996, in Bismarck. They were the sons of Clifton and Catherine Hill. Both children attended Christ the King Head Start, Mandan.

They are survived by their parents, Clifton Hill, Minnesota, and Catherine Hill, Mandan; their grandparents, Twyla Zahn, Fort Yates, Larry Fox, Mandaree, and Valarie Big Shield, Wakpala, S.D.; and their great-grandparents, Cecelia Fox, Mandaree, Pearl Howard, White Shield, Josephine Hollow, Bullhead, S.D., and Joseph Walker, Fort Yates. Seth Red Tomahawk
Seth Red Tomahawk, 3, 901 Third St. S.E., Mandan, died Nov. 25, 1996, at his home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Fort Yates, with the Revs. John Floberg and Virginia Luger officiating. Burial will be in the Red Tomahawk Cemetery, south of Cannon Ball.

He is survived by his parents, James Red Tomahawk, Fort Yates, and Pamela Fox, Mandan; his grandparents, Twyla Zahn, Fort Yates, Larry Fox Sr., Mandaree, and Josephine Red Tomahawk, Fort Yates; and his great-grandparents, Cecelia Fox, Mandaree, Pearl Howard, White Shield, and Joseph Walker, Fort Yates.
